Catching arrows, running up walls, crushing boulders and bending metal, these are but petty parlour tricks in the eyes of martial artists. But where can a genuine martial artist stand in an era where martial artists are nothing more than a myth?

Wang Yu, the most peerless martial prodigy the world has ever seen, elopes with his wife to escape an arranged marriage that was set for him as a child. Now aimless and living off his wife, Wang Yu explores the world of “Rebirth,” to seek a living. Rebirth is a world where dragons, demons and immortals are more than just legends, and Wang Yu is set to make a legend of his own.

I have to say that this is the best and most favourite of all the gaming novels I've read ^_^ seriously can't get enough of this story.

The fact that this also has a stable update is especially satisfying (2 chapters everyday basically).

If you want action and humour, with a good amount of OPness in the characters mixed with martial arts and commonsense breaking, this is the story for you!

From what I've seen so far, nothing has made me want to invest in the novel. For one, I don't like this type of blockhead OP MC who unconsciously do amazing things. What I hate the most about is that we have to sit through people reacting at how amazing the MC is and you could even add a little "you're a newbie?!" at the end for a little more spice.

Quite frankly, I'm just tired of this whole trope of people getting amazed by the MC. The fact that the... more>> game is broken af does not help at all. 10 chapters in and the MC is already pretty much confirmed to be the strongest player in the game seeing how amazed the control panel was at seeing him solo a Boss. I figured there's probably not much else to see here since he's the strongest ingame anyway.

While others praise the novel for having an MC that is actually already married, I don't really think it's all that special. Sure, it's quite a novelty that hasn't been seen yet in this genre but the novel doesn't really do anything special with it, or maybe it tried but failed anyway. The whole chapter shopping with the wife was quite honestly very painful and cringe-inducing.
Spoiler

He's made money from the game and so he took out his wife to shopping without telling her that he finally has money. The poor wife was all worried the entire time since she didn't have much money to pay for them. I don't know what I was supposed to feel about this, should I have been "ohohoho, wait to be surprised girl!"? And some other things happened but basically this entire event was just disappointing.

[collapse]

The conversations.... feel weird. It's something I've noticed in other similar novels. The people talking doesn't feel like they're adults, and by saying this I'm trying to insult their IQ. Every line has some kind of emotion added into it and it just makes the whole thing look ridiculous and exaggerated. It's like everyone has to shout and talk with exclamation points. I just skimmed through a chapter right now to see the number of exclamation points and I laughed at how I didn't notice it earlier.

Now back at the whole game balance thing.... To be honest, a novel doesn't need sets of elegant and complicated rules and mechanics to be good, in fact most of the times that backfires because it can easily go wrong with the novel having too much info dump and the author being more prone to inconsistencies. However, that doesn't mean that the opposite is good. A braindead game by no means make the novel good, unless it was originally intended to be braindead in the first place. Otherwise, a game where there's a class that's labeled as basically useless is just a bad game. There's only 7 classes to choose from, they could've at least tried to make all 7 balanced. But of course I haven't really seen yet how much of a broken class it is yet since all I've seen was how amazing and cool and strong (cue kyaa have my babies) the MC is at it. Which brings me to my second point which is that the MC is s*upidly strong. Not the first time I've seen an OP MC, but my gripe about it is that it's making it out like there's no other person who's as strong as the MC. He's so good at the game because what, he knows karate? It's like it's saying he's the only person who's practiced martial arts in the entire world, or at least the others that did were obviously nowhere as good as him since the game mods were speechless at how good he is. Basically, this is just bad writing that shows how hard the author is at trying to make his MC look cool.

Now if there's one thing I want to praise this novel at, to the point where I would even be willing to rate it 2 stars just because of it, was that particular scene where the MC makes a joke at how fake the NPCs are, crying at one second and then laughing the next line. Now when have you ever seen an MMORPG Novel where the NPCs are not actually highly intelligent AIs that gets bullied by the players who think nothing more of them than just some cleverbots? I've always hated that trope and although this isn't really much of a big deal, I still appreciate it a lot.

All in all, it's one of those novels mainstream novels like IRAS and Shadow Hack that forcefully lowers your IQ for you to be able to read it. I might've enjoyed it back then when I wasn't too familiar with novels in general yet but now I just can't ignore the absurdities anymore. Still, I wouldn't be so heartless as to rate it 1/5. It had some mildly funny moments between its painful/boring to read fillers and I actually didn't rage quit. I just suddenly said meh and decided to drop it because it wasn't worth it anymore. Overall, 2 stars. There's not much going on here. The plot is unoriginal and the writing is bad. It didn't see much of a potential and I don't see how this novel could've turned into something good. <<less

2/5 - D Tier - A Joyride

The entire premise of the novel is, although not unique, good enough to hook readers.

The MC actually has a reason for his initial overpowered nature, having been a martial practitioner since a young age. However, as the novel continues, one would realize just how badly broken his class (and many other classes) are. From a gaming perspective, the designers failed.

One of the things I loved about the novel was the guild the MC joins. Imagine Fairy Tail but everyone there is batsh*t crazy or just plain there for the lols. The members of the guild are all a tight-nit band of experts with quirks and gimmicks of their own, some have actual personalities, but they all give little care for anyone standing in their way. They fight and scheme against regular players, guilds, each other, and even the in-game NPCs themselves. [The ‘guild fights’, which can’t really be called wars, do get old and repetitive, however.] I’m glad the guild isn’t large, starting off with only 9 characters with an ‘acting leader’ that even gets picked on just like the rest of them do to each other as none of them really listen to authorities, their a band of freedom lovers.

There's some small amount of mysteries within the novel accompanying a larger one. Which is, who exactly is Wang Yu?

Wang Yu isn’t exactly like most Chinese protagonists. He tries to be forgiven and tries to talk things out, but most conflicts are resolved through fists in the end whether he wants it or not. He is a kind and giving person, the story doesn’t just tell us that, it actually shows it.

Although he has a wife, romance is not one of the important aspects of the novel. Although there are many females within the book, they don’t fawn over him, in fact, some fawn over other side characters.

One thing the novel lacks: Tension. Not once did I feel tense while reading it. Not once did I believe he wouldn’t win or find a way out of a tough situation. The novel is there for a joyride, not an intrinsic plotline.

Aside from the main character and his immediate friends or guild, none of the characters have personalities beyond ‘this girl is nice’ or ‘this guy is arrogant’.

The writing isn’t the best nor is it the worst. Descriptions are short and brief. Action scenes are subpar but they are not terrible either, at least they don’t come down to a beam of light but they certainly aren’t masterful either.

If you want a joyride, by all means, read.

The summary for the novel is seriously a scam and doesn't deserve to be put up; I will try editing it to make it more appealing. I digress, the story in itself is terrific, what caught my eye is the devotion the MC had for his wife, and I would also fault the author for mainly focusing on the MMORPG aspect of the novel and neglecting both worldbuilding and adding substance/background to anyone other than the MC himself.

As you continue reading, you'd realise that you're stuck in the following repeating... more>> sequence:

Spoiler

[Level up > Sell items/services/help X& Y > Attempt dungeon (Hell mode only) > get hunted by enemy and/or guild (include dramatic scenes) > Climax > Level up ] and repeat

[collapse]

I would recommend it if not for the repetitive aspects of it. <<less

It's really great.

Well, I am one of those who read many, many novels and manga over the years.

And this is fresh in:

  1. MC got a wife and their interaction is similar to real life interactions.
Elsewhere it's usually just "Girl X having this thirst to see or touch MC again",
"Girl Y admiring MC endlessly", "Girls X being jealous of girl Y".
  2. The MC has normal interactions with other players. Not just speaking to NPCs.
  3. The MC is not mentally broken or twisted or just hungry for power due to feeling insecure,
like it's the usual norm in most other novels.
It is really a fresh breeze after reading so many other novels. The downside here is for the time being that author is not that capable at portraying the MC as... more>> "powerful but dumb" (to make him not too OP).
It would be more believable if the MC had more goals in the game (like, you don't care about MC being dumb if he has many social goals and would say it's rather "slice of life type novel")

I really look forward to reading more. <<less

A piece of garbage.

Author don't even know what a character development mean..🙂

I don't know how author managedbto write this sh*t or he was high while writing.

... more>> If you're planning to read this you should get your brain out of head then read cuz this whole novel is full of plot holes and a very good example of tr*sh writing.

i was only reading it for fun but then I can't ignore how far you can go with this writing.

Author basically made his op like he can count how many times a fly can swing it's wings on real life and that is called martial arts and MC's IQ is on different level and his wife.. Author made his wife a goddess.

So basically if you're interested in time passing it's good for u. <<less

So, for all intents and purposes this is just a rundown of what to expect and why I particularly enjoyed reading this novel.

First of all I'm a VRMMO or Full Immersion VR novel fanatic and after Virtual World: Peerless White Emperor (on hiatus) I couldn't stay away from the genre.

VRMMORPG: Martial Gamer has an op MC. The kind where he's an 'upright' man who practices Martial Arts. Yad yada yada (prologue) he's playing the game and ya know what? The engine this game runs on can detect the proficiency of... more>> his Martial Arts when used in combat. So he gets more damage per hit than anyone else who has ever played. If you do not want an op MC with the whole Kung Fu skill proficiency damage sh*t then don't read it. This novel truly isn't so bad. MC uses his Martial Arts to accomplish acts that aren't thought possible (but are) in-game. This can include beating the piss out of mobs, players, bosses, escaping, and f*cking hella players (not like the whole server or some sh*t it's semi-reasonable/ie or else why would I add escaping). It's an enjoyable read that can get you hooked and overall content is good just get ready for shameless guild-brothers and a shameless author for rinse and repeating the shamelessness. I like it. You'll probably dig it. Dunno if I'll finish it but I loved the ride. <<less

It's like mini-Superman tried VRMMORPG for the first time and wooow. Eh.

This isn't a serious level-up-through-hardships type of vrnovel, but it isn't comedic either - at least for me. Idk where it stands.

Feel free to read and judge it for yourself.

This novel is not those types of VRMMORPG novels which the MC revives in an earlier time after an accident and getting betrayed, etc in the game.

  1. The MC has not played a single game in his entire life. The VRMMORPG which he plays in the novel is his first. The only thing he has going for him is his skill of martial arts in real life, and his loving wife.
  2. He plays to earn money for a living, but he's not the type to be stingy about returning favors. Also, due to the fact that he's a total newbie at gaming, he does not know much about the market prices of the items he gives out, or buys in.
  3. The VRMMORPG is unique, considering the face that
    Spoiler

Bosses are split into two different types. Regular AI bosses, and Independent. Regular AI bosses are normal, the easier type. They're the traditional ones which react with the same pattern.

The second type, the independent bosses, are harder, as they are programmed to think and react to the situation at hand, similar to how an actual human would do. These bosses do not follow aggro levels, instead they attack whoever they want, which mostly are the lower hp players. They could even re-adjust their skill set and think up of numerous patterns to fool the player.

    [collapse]
  4. The novel in my opinion is heading towards a comedy side of gaming, while showing the seriousness when things go down. The MC's friends are there to enjoy the game, while doing whatever the hell they want.
It is a rather interesting read, compared to the type of getting stronger to get revenge/ vengeance.

Competently written, which is a huge plus in my mind. Too many light novels out there that I have to wonder about the authors ability to remember/re-read what they previously wrote. And unlike other game stories, this author doesn't forget that there is a world outside of the game. Though to be honest, like most game stories the author needs more non-game related parts of the story. I find myself more interested in the real world then the game, because the MC is so OP in the game and he... more>> considers it a job almost.

A very similar story to One-Punch Man but set in a VR MMORPG game. So don't look at this story for a real-world type adventure where the character has his tribulations, defeats and triumphs in equal measures. A quick and enjoyable read. <<less

OP MC who is brand new to games and yet is ridiculously competent. He hasn't died once in 30 chapters which is a typical OP MC template but most of the others who never die have been experts in other games or were reborn and start playing again. For a complete newbie not to die once is unbelievable, especially when they're totally clueless when it comes to game mechanics. His wife has inside information, even though she said she's basically just customer service or receptionist or something similar at the... more>> gaming company; no idea how someone like that would know the exact coordinates and spawning method for a boss.

MC ran away from his martial arts family/clan/ sect to marry a normal woman so I'm guessing that will come into play later in the story. I'm really liking that he's already married before the novel starts; their interactions are great. Normally Chinese web novels focused or games or cultivation are terrible at romance and its nice to skip all the awkward introduction, misunderstandings, 'accidental' r*pe and the like.

hopefully the story stays this way and doesn't devolve into the MC screwing everything with b**bs (like the housemates/farming group). Honestly, it will probably gain an extra star from me if it ends up not being a harem, just for novelties sake. Right now I rate it between a 3-4. <<less
