The starting was brilliant, we get a middle-aged man in a small boys body, growing up together with his family of 7, he acted like a smart man would in this situation, like a little kid. The world building aspect was pretty slow, but slowly we get to find out more about the world and its customs ... more>>
Spoiler

Like the small detail of the way marriage in carried out in a small village, or the sudden introduction of qi.

[collapse]

But the introduction was not forced out, and we know that it was coming. And it was also then that the story got uselessly complicated, with all the descriptions of Internal qi and external qi. The specialities of Ignis skill (more than 5-8 times) are described again and again, this is just one example. The story goes utterly boring as the info dump keeps going for no reason.
Spoiler

His eye skill was introduced in the beginning when he was saving his pregnant sister from a bear, but beside its initial inception, nothing changed.

[collapse]

Now for the side characters. They suck!! They don't even have any personality to speak of.
Spoiler

THe only interesting character introduced in the novel (MC is not intresting) was side tracked after he obtains his little one-eyed wolf, and we don't even know much about him besides that he is one of the chosen participant for the patriarch of an unknown sect.

[collapse]

I hated every bit of this novel and before long I was side scrolling the chapter again and again, and it didn't effect the story, as only one event will happen in the story at a chapter.

  1. He goes to buy books 1 chapter over
  2. he practices new technique -ch over
  3. somebody died-ch over
  4. he gets kidnapped-ch over
  5. he hunts rabbits-ch over
  6. he found the novels pet-ch over
  7. he hates the novels pet-ch over
  8. etc!!
f*ck this shit!! Don't try reading this novel, its a utter waste of time or just scroll on and wait for the dialog. (Which most of the time is MC talking to himself)

Oh and translation is shitty too!! <<less

I wrote a scathing review of this story at chapter 69. After reading the positive reviews, I decided to persevere, and read on until 213, and I think it warrants amending my review. At ch. 69, I rated this story a 1-star. At chapter 213, assuming NovelUpdates allows a decimal point, I would rate it 1.4-star. It gets marginally better, but a thin margin, at that.

This story needs a lot of things, and paramount of them is an editor. Unfortunately, I strongly suspect that Qidian has never heard of such... more>> a thing.

The first 165 chapters move at a pace of rotting compost. If it could smell, it would resemble same, also.

First off, the author tries to painstakingly make the story 'plausible, ' describing how a child can't possibly have powers to overturn mountains and destroy planets. In my opinion, this deserves a hard whack across the head: Yo, wizard, you started the MC as a 30-year-old Chinese office worker who got 'inserted' into the body of a 3-year-old toddler. If you start with a ridiculous premise, commit to it. Make him overturn mountain. At the very least!

In fact, I would settle for him doing anything. Anything, at all.

These first 165 chapters, if run through a good editor, would have been condensed to about 8 chapter, tops!

The MC does very little. There are side characters introduced, to whom copious numbers of chapters are dedicated, but they have little bearing to the story. Pure T.M.I. Up to chapter 165, the MC is basically a little dinghy caught in a storm in the ocean. He's thrown around, helpless.

Riveting stuff this isn't. Honestly, you can read the first three paragraphs of every chapter, and with the title of the chapter, you can figure out what's going on and move on.

From chapter 165, it changes. Not by much, but at this point, I was looking for a turn-around (spoiler alert: I am eventually disappointed).

This is the point where the MC is actually beginning to make decisions. Stories are made by presenting MC's a situation, and then he'll have to choose how to react to it. Up to here, the story is absent that. So based on that, there's an improvement. Once the MC starts to think and make choices, we have a story.

Pacing isn't any better. It's still glacial and way too much unnecessary details are put in to bolster the word-count. And inconsistencies abound, such as the narration points out how 'reasonable' the story is, but then every three chapters, the MC gets a lucky chance. Up to ch. 213, this MC has more lucky chances than most characters in other xuanhuan stories get in 1, 000 chapters.

Also, I am reading a Qidian Int'l translation, so I don't know if it's bad writing or bad translating, but the MC owns a hammer that in one chapter was described as weighing 200 kg., in another it was.5 (half) kg., and then the third time the weight is mentioned, it's 2, 000 kg. The weight of an MC's weapon is not a crucial detail, but if it's written down, it should be consistent. How hard could it be? Apparently, very.

I'm a reader, and I can stop reading, but let's all pray for the guy translating this garbage, because he/she is bereft of the choices to just stop. Someone needs to tell Snake Swallows Whale to try to swallow some creative writing classes, or at least change his name to Snake Desperately Seeking Editor.

Conclusion: if you read 20 chapters and like it, well, up to ch. 213, it's pretty much the same sh*t. If you can't stand the first 20 chapters, you're not going to like the next 200. Yeah, I'm sorry, everyone, this isn't that 'hidden gem' you were hoping it would be. <<less

If you guys can get through a couple of weird chapters, this is a fantastic novel. The young master cliche only comes into play way later when it doesn't matter and only to showcase the MC's point of "young masters be young masters." It's very fun to read and the author describes the the cultivation system really well.

Don't listen to people who only read 1 chapter and criticizing... don't miss out on this great novel

I read up to here and felt, "Holy crap! This MC is dumb!", I mean he says that he used to be a 30-year-old civil servant, but his decisions get dumber and dumber as the chapter goes on.

He says that he is annoyed about the arrogance of people, but god damn, he never looks at himself. He is the most selfish, self-important dumbass that is full of himself that if his luck or

The biggest problem is all the non-sensical names by the translator. Half the words make no sense and I see that it might be hard to give suitable names but many other translators seem to do a great job and this one just fails. Coupled with info-dumps (most of the info again involves random technique names) that never stop it's super hard to follow. Otherwise, the characters and plot are actually decent but I stopped reading as at some point it didn't seem worth trying to decode the meaning of... more>> all the terms. <<less

Spoiler

This MC is the guy in most wuxia novels that spoil their daughters to the maximum and let them do what they like and have such horrible attitude. His way of raising his children is disgusting. He spoils his daughter too much and devalues his son and lets him become the protector and comply with her demands. That sort of mentality made me cut off my interest so quick. If that was not s*upid enough, the daughter's crush was talking crap about him on his land openly and his daughter let him do it with her protection while his wife thought it was a minor thing and overlooked it. He failed as a parent. He is the worst parent I have read on Webnovel as a MC. His daughter has no respect for him at all, she even wanted to hit him and he was chill about it and said everything was his fault. I am done with this crap of a novel. I cannot believe I wasted so much. Also his wife is a such a bad mother, she made him apologize and orderes him make her daughter happy again.

This might seem minor but what is the point being the strongest if your family are spoiled and rotten people no matter their talent? I wish he was single or at least didn't have children. It ruined his character. He knows the guy his daughter has a crush on has bad motives and even the daughter knows about it yet he promises him cultivation pills, techniques and his protection when he gains higher levels for him not to contact his daughter again.

I enjoyed it. The characters in the novel even have a term for people with plot armor. Now as to why I gave it a one, then ending:
Spoiler

All his friends and family are wiped out while seemingly not caring as he becomes the titled character at the end. Maybe his kids are still alive for now, as well as Wang She, but that's it. Maybe if he acknowledged that, maybe would have at least gave it a three.

The world settings is an ok...

Character development is actually good..

The main dish of this novel is the plot...

... more>> While MC plot armour and lucky encounters are quite ridiculous...

But is just a way for MC to keep up witht the plot...

So you will realised that MC while op is not actually op...

Author tends to forget stuffs,

But is bearable...

I dun understand why people rate this low...

Sure the beginning is abit boring,

But that boring stuff is necessary for us readers to understand the world without info dumping...

Also the MC cultivation is step by step while not fast neuther it is slow...

The only bad point is MC super luck...

I wish they are more of a developed harvest/inheritance than random chance by...

I reconk if MC sudden strength gains are by inheritance, there should be about 20 extra chapters for it.... <<less

This novel is kinda boring on the cultivation side we got a very young MC learing cultivation from his borther-in-law and picked from his life on Earth and little action.

Also the autor spends far too much time with pointless side characters that are doing things far more intersting than our MC but after there stuff is done they leave and never return and that makes pointless. Por exemple the One Eye Wolf was pretty much handle by some disciple guy and thats it the MC never have any interaction with... more>> the Wolf even after all the build up so disapointing.

A ok reading but if you want action this isn't for you. <<less

Wow this novel is tiring. The author liked to ramble on and on about the smallest details of the MC's cultivation techniques and weapons that reading it feels like reading a detailed manual on a complex electronic device. The more depressing thing is, after spending numerous chapters explaining about the techniques / weapons and the hardship the MC had to endure to acquire it, the MC would just use it once then forget about, or acquired a better technique / weapon that rendered the previous one useless within the next... more>> few chapters. Rinse and repeat for hundreds of chapters. Without the tiring infodump, the novel would have been 50% shorter and 200% more enjoyable.

Perfectionist who likes to micromanage things would find this novel enjoyable. Casual readers should just stay away. <<less

Oh my god, this novel reads like the author of History's Strongest Senior Brother. They must be related or something because there's so much info dump! Add in a translator that has horrible naming sense and you've got a hot mess of a novel.

We have a 30 something year old MC growing up in a little boy's body. He's still growing up slowly where I'm at, doing mundane things and getting caught up in stuff beyond his control. Slow moving novels can be interesting but this one isn't. The story... more>> progresses for 1/5 of the chapter while the other 4/5 is all info dumping, making it quite a chore to read. I have to take a break from reading this because I feel like I'm going to work instead of relaxing. <<less

Summary of first 24 chapters: A whole lot of nothing happens. MC discovers he has a special ability, does nothing with it. I want to read about an interesting guy who actually goes to places and does stuff, not some random kid who just sits at home and meditates all day. The only event even remotely interesting was him killing a bear. Killing a f*cking bear. Really. Pick up any xuanhuan and more interesting stuff has happened in the first chapter than has happened in 24 chapters of this webnovel.

This... more>> isn't the intellectual scheming type of novel either. There is none of that. The MC spends all his days practicing Taiji fist and still sucks at it (keep in mind he's been doing it since he was like 3 years old, for 4-5 years). No adventures, nothing. Just the MC trying to learn some martial arts (Ignis skill) that's basically Level 1, and not making much progress. If this is the rate of power progression then how long do we have to wait until the MC is able to accomplish anything significant? How long until anything actually interesting happens?

Chapters are filled to the brim with useless exposition about the MC thinking "my blacksmith teacher is so good! I hope he will teach me more stuff!". Entire chapters are full of this garbage. Complete waste of words. <<less

This series really only has one strength but it's a big one: its pace. Almost every author likes to pad their word count and come up with any excuse to delay the story's progress. Not this one. It feels like almost every chapter has something noteworthy happening or the MC progresses in some way. The series really starts ramping up around the 150-200 chapter mark.

My reasons I rate it a 5. Maybe they'll help you decide to read this or not. I got to 205 and figured I'd share my views.

  • The other raters who hate the info dump can't see that info dump is also another word for world building. I hate stories that seem too shallow. And when I read about all the world building details and 'complaints' I suspected that I would like this story. And I did. You may too.
  • The amount of detail and intricacy satisfied my craving of a good story. The MC is well fleshed out. More 3d and less 2d. The world around him is not as 'black/white' as you expect from a cultivation story.
  • Reminds me of Way of Choices, but... less philosophical. Less poetic. But raw details is it's own power too.
Overall I liked it for those reasons, hence I'm still reading it at 205. Been binging it. Sadly I know I will catch up in a week. gah!

I don't understand how this novel has such low ratings. Sure the start is kind of slow and lame but still it gets quite interesting later on. Let me just mention a few pros and cons-

Pros -

1- Characters which follow human logic and are reasonable enough.

... more>> 2- no cliche CN tropes

3 - As MC is still just 13 yo there is no love interest so there should be no harem here

4- MC knows how to deal with the situations as he is neither insufferably arrogant nor excessively humble

Cons -

1- TOO MUCH info dump. Although author writes info in a somewhat interesting way, they still leave me with sufficient headache.

2- fortuitous encounters occur almost every 8-10 chapters.

Conclusion -

In the beginning, everything seems slow and random but as you read later on, you find that every side character describes affects the plot and MC a little bit. The behavior of MC also provides a new outlook as a modern worker. For me, until c124 it's been at least a 4 star novel. <<less

When you hate the MC and want him to be the villain and he's only meant to be 3 years old! What's to like about the MC, nothing that's what he has a detestable personality imo, I really don't know why he was reincarnated as he doesn't seem like he was all that in his previous life either. We also have the obligatory Chinese nationalism (the settling is not in China, but we are assured that everything is practically like China... so why not just make it set in China??).... more>> We also have a nice sprinkling of sexism and misogyny (from a 3-year-old going on about how women are naturally inferior and he wouldn't mind a child bride but he can do anything with her right now being only 3) and I don't know how many times c*otchless pants needs to be mentioned in on chapter but the author has definitely beat the world record. <<less

positives-

Early in the novel, fights over benefits are often over things like trade routes. While it's not handled all that well, it's still a huge improvement over some random item. Power scaling is handled pretty well. It feels more reasonable than a lot of other xianxia novels.

Antagonist motivation is usually more than just face.

... more>> There's a minimal amount of c*ckroaches refusing to die.

negatives-

The translation isn't great. In every chapter, there will be numerous sentences that seem to be directly translated so they don't make sense in English. Also, calling him Junior Leopard instead of just using pinyin is a rookie mistake. If the meaning is important, a footnote the first time the name is used is sufficient (a reminder in a footnote is also fine when it becomes relevant in dialogue).

There's entirely too much posturing in the style. The author likes to pretend he's presenting reasoned arguments while info dumping. Much of it is repetition from previous chapters and the long winded explanations are usually just the same idea rephrased over and over again. It's unbelievable how many reviews say that there's limited/minimal info dumping when it is the majority of most chapters. Women are almost absent. One of the things I enjoy about this genre is that women can equalize their position in society by cultivating along with the boys and defending their interests with their fists. When the romance finally happens, it's dealt with by time skipping. It's fine for their just to not be a lot of women around, but this just feels like active avoidance. There's a ton of bromancing though. I guess if that's your thing, this might be a positive.

2~3 stars because while it has some things to offer, the style alone is enough to make it not worth the trouble. <<less

Damn this book made so pissed that I hate myself for even wasting my time on it. It's hard to give it more star ratings. First, the translation was a bit off. Little Sheeba, Junior Leopard and the Zhou Bao. Mix in back and forth through like first 200 chapters. I have to use little script to make it appear Zhou Bao for all occurrence. The second, the translation kinda put me off, luckily it's getting better toward the end. It makes the story felt weird when reading it first. Maybe the story (author) or maybe the translation, I'm not sure.

The story got boring when MC break... more>> through to human immortal realm. A bit interested when he finally went out of an adventure from heaven realm.

The daughter arc was really lame. It's rotten!

Spoiler

Final part concludes all of the story. Too bad, there's no more story about his family and friends. Azure Big World was destroyed wasn't it? Meaning he's the unluckiest MC ever for ending part :/
