When a futuristic scientist is transported into the body of a young man in a fantasy world, his curiosity and desire for power push him to pursue magic. In a world without mercy, Leylin has no qualms about doing anything if it means benefits. He is cold, ruthless and calculating, never forming attachments that could impede his ultimate goal…

Honor? Who needs that… Hmmm… that guy seems too powerful for me to take on now… I better keep a low profile for now.

You want me to help you? What do I get out of it? Nothing? Bye.

Hmm… that guy looks like he might cause me problems in the future. Better kill him before he becomes a problem…

Yeah, well.. I sincerely agree with the first reviews that were written when this novel had only a few chapters released. The protagonist is not that much of a modern genius but more of a pleb that read the manual that came with the OP magical object. The action and the world building are original and fresh. The conflicts are cruel and follow no set pattern. But that is slowly becoming annoying as the action moves everywhere. It becomes a pain to follow it and the protagonist doesn't help that... more>> much with his attitude of a demigod.

Pros

+ World bulding

+Villains

+Magical system

+Wars

Cons

- Fast paced

- A machine like protagonist

- Side characters are changed too often

Neutral

The protagonist himself... <<less

Take away the creepy 'kukukuku' laugh and the dry wit and this MC is basically a watered down Orochimaru from Naruto.

It's a solid novel: well-written, has decent pacing and a thought out plot. However, that's just it. There's nothing about this novel that specifically stands out save for the fact that that the author substitutes qi for magic and sects for academies. My biggest gripe with the story (truthfully most wuxia novels) is the author's recklessness with cultivation levels. By chapter 400, you can count the number of level three... more>> magi that appear in the story on one hand. By chapter 500, there a cities filled with them. It's slightly grating and dismissive of the MC's accomplishments. Especially when you factor in the AI chip.

It's a good story to tell, but the execution needs work on.
A solid 3 in my book. <<less

MAY CONTAIN LIGHT SPOILERS!

This is information that can be picked up rather early in the story and doesn't seem to impact the overall plot, that's why I refer to them as light spoilers.

I have only read 80 chapters of this novel and I'll admit, since it has 1200, 80 really isn't a lot, but there are already a lot of things that annoy me.

First of all, the MC having been reincarnated from another world doesn't matter at all, it could have been a story about how someone had an A.... more>> I. Chip reincarnated into their brain. The only impact him being a middle-aged scientist has had on the story is that he won't f*ck 11-12 year olds, but he doesn't mind if they're 14 and have big breasts. He adapts to his situation immediately, even when coming from an advanced civilization everything in a medieval society is normal to him, he did get the memories of the guy whose body he reincarnated into, or transported into, whatever, but still... GIVE HIM SOME GOD DAMN DEPTH!

Also, why is the A.I. able to run combat simulations based on stats alone without knowing anything about the opponents fighting style? other than this, the A.I. thing is done pretty well I'll admit.

Secondly, every girl is a sl*t and will have s*x with pretty much anyone, this makes the story seem like it's just the author's wet dream, it's an easy way to avoid having to give the characters some actual depth and human emotions, magi might distance themself from the fact that they were once human, but since he's reincarnated, shouldn't he display his knowledge and ability to pick up woman as a middle-aged man amongst 12 year old teenage boys with no game at all? And wouldn't it be more exciting to hear about him picking up a mature woman instead? I just have to look at "Great Demon King" and see how this is actually done, that novel has some flaws aswell, but in this aspect it's very good.

Thirdly, the s*ave thing, they aren't bound by any magic crests or spells that makes them unable to follow their master's command, instead they are brainwashed, you might say that this is groundbreaking f*cking work compaired to other novels in the same genre, but to be honest, it's just another way to avoid talking about emotions and how the s*ave gradually gets to either respect or love their master compaired to one they may have had before, this again makes the characters shallow.

Fourthly, the general lact of human emotions! Yea, magi in this fantasy world distances themself from regular humans and they're actually harmful to them, but why make them originate from humans in the first place if you're not going to tackle the hard hitting questions about how this impacts them and their lives?! If you want people to relate to the characters, and because of that you make them start off as human, then you have to involve actual human emotions, atleast at first, then they can change over time.

Lastly, how every other chapter you read about how lucky it is that it was at exactly this time he faced this guy, because if he had run into him sooner he wouldn't have been able to handle it, this DOESN'T make the MC calculating or cunning in any way! it's f*cking luck, which the author uses to highlight just how great the MC is for being able to overcome this challenge, but that doesn't change the fact that it was luck, plot armour ftw.

This is a general problem in Chinese novels where the rating of strength is too rigid, if this guy is level 1 and I'm level 2 I'd never lose to him, but if he's level 3 I have no chance of winning, this is an easy concept to create and it doesn't take more than half a brain to write, but it takes away the possibility of the MC winning through calculating or cunning methods. <<less

I quite like reading this novel as the story (or rather the story's MC) is quite brutal and doesn't try to hide it at all. Unlike other novels where the MC will try to justify their actions or try to portray themselves in a positive light despite doing some questionable things, this story completely puts everything out on the table at the very beginning. The MC is strictly all about personal gain, as well as risk and reward. If performing a certain action does not carry with it a likely... more>> chance of him directly dying, but instead is able to directly benefit the MC is some way (like providing him resources or letting him advance in some way), if he gets indirect benefit (such as the potential for him to receive benefits in the future) and the risk involved isn't too high, he will do so. Otherwise, the MC won't do anything, which is quite refreshing, since other novels won't try and be so upfront and direct about it.

The only downside to the story I would say is the ultimate treasure/cheat code in the form of the AI chip that somehow bonded with MC's soul when he reincarnated, which makes things a lot easier for him and is a pretty cheap way to him to get things done, though it's not exactly the first novel to do this (nor likely will it be the last), so it's not too bad.

That being said, the story is solid, the MC is solid, the action and abilities are pretty cool, the cultivation system is quite unique (and some of the titles involved are pretty fascinating as well), and the romance is pretty minimal, which is fair enough (if you're not good at something, don't force it). Highly recommended. <<less

The story revolves on the MC and hardly anybody else. I like how the MC is antihero and all that shit, but along the way you kinda lose the reason for reading. Would've been nice if the AI talks like human, I might've lasted longer. So yeah, I stopped reading cause I lost interest of the MC.

It's very interesting to have a "bad guy" as an MC. While some people don't like that, this kind of story is in the minority and there's plenty of "good mc" books out there to read.

The story reinforces his (and the rest of the Magi's) cold-heartedness very often, enough that its just short of the border to TOO often. However, it can be seen that the MC isn't completely cold, but rather prioritizes selfishness, safety, and power over his relationships and debts. If it doesn't put him in danger /... more>> bankrupt him, he actually is willing to help out at the loss of a bit of time.

My issues with this story (and why I rated it 4s) include the prose and the AI chip.
Spoiler

In terms of writing, there is way too much repetition of "AI chip, begin scan/analysis/simulation." Additionally, the overabundance of exclamatory sentences in dialogue is a tiny bit uncomfortable. On the the A.I. Chip, a lot of its simulations shouldn't be things it can do. Generating a powerful spell based on a vast number of other spells? That's fine. Simulating the best way to win a battle? Kinda op but still logically viable (i wonder how fistfights between people with AI chips would go lol). But the times where it's simulating how to best advance or what the opponents' trump cards are (AI chip somehow knew Ceasar/Giant/Boy were one person) ? That makes no sense, the AI chip shouldn't have any reference to know what would happen if Leylin did this/that while trying to break through a bottleneck, especially with the story emphasizing how he doesn't have enough knowledge to figure it out due to Magi keeping those secrets under lock and key.

My main gripe with this story is the writing is boring. Everything just comes off as matter of fact and the descriptions can be a bit boring. The main thing I like about the story is the world and lore. It comes in bits and sort of feels like playing an rpg where you read a book and it gives you some history of the world Other than that most things seem very linear. I'm still enjoying the story though because of the universe.

I wanted to like this one. I really did. Warlock of the Magus World shares a similar reincarnation plot as many others, though this world has a bit more flesh in the setting and fantasy systems it operates on. The magic systems and power progression are fascinating, and the main character is cold and ruthless - unlike a typical hero.

However, all of the interesting and intelligent analysis is covered by "lol A.I. Chip." The main character's particular cheat is to skip all explanations on how he actually becomes more powerful... more>> or does things better than others.

If that somehow doesn't bother you, by all means it's a serviceable reincarnation adventure story with some neat mechanical developments. <<less

This is officially the WORST cn I've ever read. The MC is decent, I don't have any arguments about that. Rather, the world is terrible. I feel like the novel is too gory for several reasons. ... more>>
Spoiler

Like seriously... what kind of teacher uses the students in experiments?! Several other scenes just steer me away from the novel.

[collapse]
There's also many plot holes. For one, the inconsistency of the currency. At, first it's supposed to be incredibly rare, but then the MC can have hundreds of it do to his skill in potion brewing. There are various other plot holes but I'm too lazy to find them. If you search hard enough, you'll find them. The novel just starts to get repetitive after he becomes a Warlock. My suggestion is to not even start reading this novel. It's terrible.... <<less

The protagonist is a lot like Meng Hao of ISSTH. He's in a world of survival of the fittest, and quickly adapts. Stronger cultivators suppress the cultivation of weaker cultivators. He keeps his strength and trump cards a secret (although unlike Meng Hao, he deliberately feigns weakness and acts friendly in order to always have the best position strategically). He's ruthless when appropriate. (Note that unlike Meng Hao, he casually considers killing innocent people... yet as of chapter 185, he has yet to actually kill someone who wasn't an enemy... more>> or a criminal, and in fact, he's treated many side characters very well). And much like Meng Hao, and also like the protagonist of World of Cultivation, he has a vast array of cultivation techniques he explores in parallel and is extremely strategic and persistent in furthering them. He's definitely more like World of Cultivation's protagonist in terms of his cautious, meticulous, and studious approach to everything.

The A.I. chip isn't really a deus ex machina so much as way to let him memorize and collate vast amounts of data to construct inferences that would take experts countless years to come up with, which was a somewhat new and fun idea to me. If the author had just said he was a peerless scientist with a perfect memory, I bet that he could have achieved nearly the exact same effect. It's nowhere near as broken as the likes of Nie Li in Tales of Demons and Gods who's like "My comprehension, battle ability, etc. etc. are all the best in the multiverse, it's just that my cultivation is too low so I can 'only' beat [x] levels above mine."

The setting and attention to detail are among the most impressive I've read. Perhaps my major complaint is that he doesn't really have any close friends. Most side characters are too weak and fall by the wayside, or they're rivals or business partners. The protagonist never really trusts anyone. The plot always makes this the correct behavior, however. For example, he declines to stop a crime, and a little later the readers see that the "victim" is actually a cold-hearted person with bad intentions, so it would've been a terrible liability if he'd intervened. That's the sort of worldview this WN has. There are, of course, pure and kind people, but they tend to be depicted as naive and unlikely to ever excel in their cultivation. Also, I wish the protagonist had serious goals besides just pursuing strength for its own sake. <<less

A good story I thought. Mad scientist usually doesn't care about anything unless it have connection with their interest, am I right? Good development, consistently, I love the plot. Despite his cold-hearted, the MC is a hardworking one. I think not many people will work until the end, strive for the goal even if they had guidance and shortcut, even the shortcut need a determination and consistency

I'm waiting till MC find a clue and expand the AI abilities

-Done reading the book - (1200)

Enjoyed to the very end. 9/10. Extremely well written and translated. The main character didn't change one bit from the start. This book is a must read with a bad ass MC. Even toping over Coiling Dragon and Stellar Transformation.

This is my first review.

How should I rate this?

I really don’t know. I’ve read all translated chapters and then used SYSTRAN to translate the Chinese raws into somewhat legible stuff, but I still can’t decide.

... more>> In one way, this story is really refreshing. This MC is the complete opposite of all the hotheaded MC’s you’ve read about, and pretty much never rush into trouble without thinking. This guy considers EVERYTHING.

The man has plans within plans within plans. I love that.

But. While this MC is incredibly intelligent and I’m truly impressed by the schemes he invents, he’s also too unfeeling. This only grows further along the story.

Spoiler as of latest chapter describing his coldness:

Spoiler

Leylin has no friends he trusts. He has a wife and several mistresses, but their romance is barely mentioned and my feeling is he would sacrifice them and his children to pursue his dream of becoming “Eternal” in a heartbeat, as he himself thinks that “he would do anything to reach his goals”.

Everything to him is cost and benefit. At the same time, in the story there is barely any true friendships shown, pretty much everyone is using everyone to gain more power.

[collapse]
To me, this is quite possibly the most thought out and intelligent Xianxia I’ve read (but then again, I admit I’ve yet to read ISSTH and some others acclaimed ones.) and for this the story is excellent.

The 9 main Martial Arts ranks we learn about in the beginning of the story hold true, and it’s not like most Xianxia where the MC suddenly finds out there are realms above that he has never heard about for some incomprehensible reason. This also gives the reader a feeling that the author has a plan on where this is all going. The end road is not infinitely pushed ahead as the author tries to drag the story along, I feel that so far there haven’t been much ‘filler’ instead the story has meat and doesn’t drag things out too far.

Another thing I love about this story is that the enemies of the MC (I won’t say villains, since he’s clearly one.) are pretty much never attacking him because he refuses to give them “face”. Instead, he always tries to keep a low profile and often acts humbly to ensure he doesn’t attract trouble from arrogant hotheads.

There’s also the fact that most of his enemies are intelligent and don’t commit s*upid mistakes, instead it’s the that they either underestimates the MC (and most of those times there are REASONS for that, not simple arrogance.) or that there are things they don’t know and therefore cannot take into consideration for their plans/plots.

Only a very few times do we get a “last minute” power-up, and even in those cases the MC is almost never in mortal danger, instead he was prepared to flee if it wouldn’t have happened.

99% Of his fights he is prepared and have many cards hidden and prepared to use in case his enemies have means he has been unable to determine.

Anyway, perhaps I’ve gone into more of a rant than a review, but if I had to rate it I would give this 9/10 only missing the last star because his coldness is really a bit too much for me. <<less

Regarding the issue about the mc’s cold and mechanical personality, I feel like it somewhat works with the story. Also, as of chapter 97, he does treat the people he meets cooly, but that’s because they’re acquaintances and not actual friends! There is barely any side-character development and the MC tends to keep to himself so there is no way to get emotional for people he has not shared deep experiences with. Rather, it would be more odd if the MC busted his bu*t trying to save all his “friends”,... more>> who were of no help to him. Barely any emotional support, physical support, mental support.. Etc.

Also, his lack of emotion helps the story move along and the story doesn’t drag out or focus on unnecessary things, allowing for more character-development in the future. <<less

Pretty good.

The really, really ruthless MC is quite a refreshing change of pace from all the other self-righteous xianxia heroes out there. But, after a while, this same ruthlessness gets a bit tiresome, since it means the MC doesn’t really establish any meaningful relationships with the other characters in the story.

The 'MC is a scientist' part is a complete load of bullshit, of course, but it's really nothing more than a throwaway backstory to explain why he's got the chip in his head. It doesn't really bear any influence (negative... more>> or otherwise) on the story itself. <<less

It was okay for me when I read this back in 2017.

Now think back, the only problem I had with this novel was how narcissistic the MC was and how much he loved sleeping around.

It got to a point where his bloodline became so pure that many women ran into his laps. He went so far as to control his sperm and his bloodline from being randomly extracted by these women. Only when he deemed fit, he would go 'pew pew pew' and determined ' you you and you' get... more>> pregnant. Man that was nasty.

Actually there was a lot of indiscriminate killings too when he sent his clone to god world and became the god of plague. He would kill million of lives, and then delivered the cures to make the survivors worshipped him like mad. <<less

TL:DR - Fantastic novel with a true Evil MC, science, magic, and a bit of cultivation.

I would actually rate this a 9 out of 10 if possible but feel an 8/10 (4/5) is not good enough. The MC is evil, no apologies, and this is why the book is so good. There is no plot armor saving miscellaneous side individuals so the MC looks better than he is. People die, sometimes in droves. He abandons people, even family, if need be to move on to the next step. He will... more>> honor some sentiments and seems to have a kind of 'repaying karma' at times even if it's not expressly stated, however this is only if it doesn't cross a bottom line of cost.

Many of the arcs can link together and form a gradual plan that builds upon itself to the very end of the book. It definitely feels, when you don't look to deeply, that how the end of the book comes across is forced and too 'perfect'. However the MC had other options to get to the end but wanted one that was more guaranteed and better for him. In fact there were a few times throughout various arcs that back up plans were used or they had to be executed at the brink of failure to come out alive. The MC even suffered set backs due to things falling apart at times. There was even things the MC had to not greedily move toward so he could come back later when his strength was better to meet it head on. There is only a few instances where he was played and didn't get revenge which would be nice to see get resolved but overall one of the best novels I've read. <<less

Almost didn't read this because some guy said it dropped off hard halfway through. It really doesn't. If you enjoy the first few arcs you'll very likely enjoy every arc, even as the scale starts to become a bit absurd. That being said there are 3 things to keep in mind that might be a deal breaker for you.

The first issue is that the translation ranges from being very good to barely readable, likely caused by multiple translators working on the project. The second issue is that every character is... more>> a side character to the truest extent, basically never being relevant outside of their specific time in their specific arc. The third, and largest, issue is that the ending is incredibly rushed to meet the 1200 chapter deadline. If the author wanted to they could have very easily extended it to 1300 chapters, or even 1400.

Anyways, I'd recommend giving it a try. It was more than entertaining to me and each arc is very different from the last, but also very similar. <<less

This is my judgement not according to what transpires inside the story but on how the author and translator wrote the story. A few good things and also a LOT of bad things.

Pro’s

Interesting power system especially if you’re new to xianxia.

... more>> Decent Plot

You can just relax your brain while reading this. Very Easy to read.

Negative parts

Uses onomatopoeia such as *bang* way too often throughout the novel which ruins the experience of the reader. It especially ruins the fight scenes where all the sentences are *bang* *boom* *uahh kkkkaakaka*

I love time skips but these timeskips are the worst done. They almost never show or tell what have transpired between the timeskips. A lot of important details are negated and I think there’s atleast 100 chapters worth of detail that are missing from the story. You often see the main character throw out sh*t that are NEVER mentioned or indicated that he had the possibility of having. Skills are strewn here and there but we never know from which they came from. You get detailed explanations of sh*t we never heard from before with no indication of MC HAVING but suddenly he does because it’s needed for the plot Ex (The termites, the Shadow domain, the suction array etc.)

The main character tells us that Warlock mages are above what Normal magi are but he can’t even defeat someone who’s at peak rank one when HE TOO is almost at peak rank one. And it’s not that even close, the author emphasizes that even if he caught the enemy off guard and has 2 more people with quasi magi strength that he is still far off. It makes us think that the class warlock is for a bunch of useless pathetic beings. I don’t know if it’s because of reading Martial world where the MC can almost always jump two large realms but this MC can’t even jump a TENTH of a realm with the so called dual cultivation of bloodline and spiritual force and the help of the simulation of his seemingly overpowered but actually useless chip.

Shittiest side characters I’ve ever seen in a story.

There are mostly 4 types of side characters eminent in the story

1: Girl’s who he f*cks who he thinks are just reliefs which makes their existences so monotonous.

2 Side characters to compare how strong or how well versed he is in things. The people who interact with are even less of what side characters are. Given two sentences or left in a time skip. It makes people feel like the only character in this book is Leylin himself and no one else.

3 Those people who want to kill him for some s*upid reason pulling out all the stops to kill him yet terribly losing and knowing that he’s just gonna grow and instead of communicating with him and getting the benefits like what the supposed society is, the only thing in the mind of these people are (IM A SIDE CHARACTER AND MY ONLY ROLE IN THE BOOK IS TO TRY AND KILL HIM I DONT HAVE RATIONAL JUDGEMENT BECAUSE THE ONE WHO WROTE ME DOESNT CARE ABOUT ME EITHER.)

4People who he thinks are decent but doesnt carr about so they neither get screen time nor importance. <<less

6.5/10 readable and enjoyable

As a lot of reviews say, the MC is only willing to take actions for benefits. This character trait prevails throughout the novel and is consistent with who Leylin is. Despite this consistency, his character seems a bit bland and does not develop over the novel, as the author keeps repeating the same thing: " he only does things for his benefits, morals are nothing, he's so smart 🤓"

Moreover, the author's writing is mediocre to the point that the pacing of things is weird and some arcs... more>> are a slog to get through.

The south coast arc in the first book was a good introduction to the world of magi where the people took actions for benefits which is normal as humans don't do anything that directly harms their interests unless they are forced. The arc, however, was too long where towards the end you had to slog through and wait for some dogsh*t plot writing to transition to another arc.

The twilight zone arc was by far the best arc as we see the author's writing shine. The author is best at creating a play where the MC is the director controlling everything. This is what happens here, and it is deeply enjoyable as the MC works is the background to his goals. The transition to the next arc is linear and not interesting but emphasizes the Mac's ambitions.

The Central continent arc is also fine in reading and the plot progresses adequately. However, it is from here that we start getting contradictions with what the author is saying: "unlike normal MCs Leylin does not just get ez drops". This is not the case since we see on many different occasions that he has insane luck and just finds things:
Spoiler

he just finds the pocket dimension in quicksand and that's all I can remember but there should be more of these moments

[collapse]
. This arc is pretty long and has some good moments 7/10.

The passage of bloodline arc is pretty boring except for the end where we see the direction by Leyling to accomplish his goals. The author is pretty garbage at world building much like other xianxia authors where everything is massive and blah blah blah.
Spoiler

The only issue I had was that Leyling stole Beelzebub's law of gluttony, which doesn't make sense as Leyling has f*ck all idea about laws (blazing flame monarch doesn't count since he stole a bit but couldn't even comprehend 1% of what he stole). He steals gluttony's laws and somehow understands it perfectly and isn't contaminated by is broken ai chip

[collapse]

The world of gods arc was refreshing at the start but the initial pirate segment was f*cking boring as shit. The silverymoon segment was enjoyable with good action scenes and fighting. However, I have the same issue with the author where he says the MC does not get ez drops but he does.
Spoiler

he somehow finds a 1/trillion possibility of finding a map that leads to arcanist clues and he can access that area. Then he goes to fight the dragon in netheril but there's no danger since tiff is a legendary. After slaying the dragon, MC finds pocket dimension band gets the coordinates to the floating city as well. Not only this but he gets the most broken nightmare physique for free while there is not backlash or danger form distorted shadow because of this since he has the most bs ai chip that no one ever detect even though many beings can see his soul and the chip is connected to it somehow

. The end of the arc is dogsh*t with the hell arc; that sh*t was so boring that you could skip to the last chapter of it and understand what is needed.

I couldn't even read the final war arc because of how bored I got from the author's repeater writing that he considers world building. I just read the summary and was disappointed with the lackluster ending of end is just the beginning, cringe.

Overall, the author is alright but can't world build like most xianxia author's. Leylin's motivation of immortality seems a bit forced as well as there is never an event that seems like a catalyst. Although all humans seek eternal life to an extent, we have more values but apparently Leyling doesn't have anything but his goal of immortality, which is contradicted with his non-obsession with it: he is said to be single mindedly focused on this goal but doesn't want it if he can't have worldly pleasure. Idk, Leylin's motivations seem bland and only have surface level implications. The ai chip is so f*cking broken as it is the only reason Leylin can do anything. To Leylin 's benefit he seems the resources for the ai chip to have a bigger database but has doesn't do or accomplish anything in his own, except the plotting in twilight zone and snake dowager. The other character are just name dropped and irrelevant to the story. Also the power system suffers the same flaws as other xianxia with concepts of law and dao that can't be described except in a surface level and sucks. Overall this novel is readable and enjoyable it you ignore the issues that I pointed out. <<less
