The story started out promising, as many do, but loses its focus just as similarly. What starts as a school arc ends with the MC somehow being a top tier magician after one month. He becomes batman and is beating all these criminal bosses left and right somehow, while he has only attended the academy for less than month. I just can't get over the fact that the author makes the MC "weak" when he remembers to write academy content, but he is so strong once he steps one foot... more>> outside of the school. Simple fact is that the author lost control of his story, and is padding out his pagecount by writing whatever nonsense that first comes into his head. He lives in the capital of magic yet there seems to not be a single person which any knowledge of magic.

The writing itself can became melodramatic and pretentious at times as the author is trying to make a one dimensional story deep, but it doesn't work out. The whole magic system is poorly thought out and poorly explained. Side characters are one dimensional and boring. The story just is not consistent in its direction, or intentions. While it is not the worst novel I have ever read, I do not recommend reading it.

okay hold up, I admit that when I first started reading this I thought it was a complete chore. I mean all the dang complicated words not to mention the nonsense in the first chapter - buuutt, give it a chance. I guarantee that once most of you pass at least the first three chapters, you wouldn’t be able to put it down.

The first chapter and the second give you a little background, the first is for the world. The world in this story is centred around music which is... more>> the medium for them to use magic or aether (this is all completely a loose interpretation as of now but that’s basically the gist of it.. Actually now that I think of it, it could be the other way around). Long story short, musicians are the top dog of this world. The second chapter gives you a lil insight on the MC - yezi and his dream about being a musician as well as inklings of his past.
Spoiler

he used to be an uber genius because he had a special inborn relationship with the aether which is like the basis of whether or not you have talent to be a musician. He lost this connection somehow during a high fever. His father also seems to be connected to a herectic clan of musician and is claimed to have killed sixteen musicians or so which is a major crime.

[collapse]

honestly I like the MC as of now. He isnt super op and he isnt haughty or feels entitled to things for no reason. He kind of takes things as they come but not in an annoying way. Tbh he wakes up my “let onee-chan look after you, you poor boi, you” feels. Plus he has a dog with a personality. What more could you ask for? <<less

This is one of underrated novels I discovered recently, trust me it is really GOOD novel! I admit that in the first two chapters, I was confused not knowing what is the author trying to convey. But, I am glad to continue on reading and did not dropped this novel directly. This novel is really good! This novel give us reader something new and fresh. Some of you who is already fed up with your usual xuanhuan novel, this novel is really fit for you!

The pace of the story is relatively slow when compared to other good LNs... ✨✨ (as mentioned by other review first two chapters are absolutely terrible)

Still this novel has depth and content that is not easily found...✨✨✨

The concept is very original and the world is well described...✨✨✨

I give this novel a 4.4/5 for an MC who is not a bit*h and a storyline that is truly original (with creative content) ?

Although the story seems all over the place when it reached about 200s chapters, the Author managed to pick it up and put the plot in the right track after a while. It's completely worth it to read until the very end. Not only did the questions about the world got answered, but the conclusion of the conflicts also tied off very beautifully in the end.

You may think that the story is very cliche and rip-off most of the names from other timeless masterpieces (Ex: Arthur, Odin, Holmes and... more>> Watson), and it is very true. Some parts of the story suddenly became a detective genre story. However, after the rip-off fever had died off, the combination of the legends and plot twists came off as a one-of-a-kind ride.

The author also had a very interesting idea of philosophy clashes, as well as emotional drama. The world-building is very solid and gave off the image of a dynamic world. All in all, definitely a must-read from me. <<less

Stuck with it forever and really enjoyed it for its action and character interactions and the unique setting (like really really unique).

Buuut... I have to only give it 3 stars, as it is becoming increasingly clear that the author doesn't know what he's doing with the plot or the setting. It gets more and more disfocused and plot threads are discarded and lost. In some ways it really feels like it's an actual world; more like a D&D campaign than a story. But I don't really feel like that is... more>> a good thing; it just ends up being out of place and disfocused in a novel like this.

It also quickly gets out of hand; the best parts of the novel were when the MC had to use limited powers to overcome the threats he faced through witty uses. By the end we are in some dragonball Z sh*t whereupon a literal god is calling down lightning from the heavens to oppose the MC's power of gathering the magic of all the musicians.

Overall however, the setting is enough to keep it interesting. I'd recommend you read it, but with low expectations; you'll probably eventually drop it, but you'll drop it with a feeling of "that was pretty decent but went a bit too weird; I wish the author had explored the plot more and paced things better". Anyone thinking "only a musician can read this" is also mistaken. These are musicians in the sense that they use music to cast magic, but really none of the music is relevant if you know what the songs do in universe. Also he kinda threw away the whole music part near the end, which is one of the reasons it fell out of my favor.

But of all the novels wherein famous musicians from real life fight eachother using the powers of mechsuits, Norse deities, Satan, King Arthur, the Leviathan from the bible, and the Great Wall of China, this has got to be my favorite. Give it a try, just so that you can see a novel that truly tried for a completely unique premise. <<less

This novel has a lot of potential but unfortunately, it tries too hard to be mysterious and throws in too many cut scenes happening from all over the place. I'm sure eventually, it will lead back to being associated to the MC but it's too confusing. There's simply way too much stuff going on that I stopped caring about it halfway.

The start was nice, and then things went along the typical formula.

For those who have problems concerning the tragedy tag I have good news or bad news depending on your cup of tea. The tragedy, at least until this point in the novel, a bit more than 4/5's of the novel, does not involve some ridiculous sacrifice. I do have gripes with those novels myself.

A novel with an interesting premise which reminds me a bit of Throne of Magical Arcana (another work from the author of LotM) but the author fails to present his work in a less convoluted way. As some other reviewers have pointed out, the plot of the first half of the novel lacks structure which makes things really confusing unless you really commit the details to memory. The one thing that I dislike the most about this novel is the nature of the plot armor. I personally think that plot... more>> armors are okay in the right situation but in this novel,
Spoiler

MC is actually spared by his enemies multiple times when they could have just killed MC (and of course, MC somehow managed to escape). The most annoying thing is that the reason for sparing MC is always because "Yo I think this MC is smart and has potential. Would be great if he can be my underling or s*ave". SMH

First 1-3 chapters will make you confused. Especially the first chapter. BUT! Once you stick it through, you'll figure out what was going on in those first few chapters (hint: it's a backstory/prologue that gets expanded on later). The real story begins once that 'prologue' is past, focusing on our MC with white hair.

A very good hidden gem kind of novel -- A+ plot, A+ creativity, A+ characters, A+ relationship development (romantic and platonic). Just have to bear with the confusion of the first chapter or so. Highly recommend this... more>> novel! <<less

This is so annoying. Really annoying how everyone seems to know what is going on except the MC, Ye Qingxuan. The author didn't take us (the reader) along at all when decoding identities and decisions. Ye Qingxuan's friends keep betraying him. And EVERYf*ckINGBODY knows the behind-the-scenes except the darn MC. This point is actually what makes me quit at Chapter 600 because I'm just so pissed. Which is a pity because I liked the beginning.

It's a good novel! :D Might be a bit confusing though.

The characters are interesting and have depth. There are many mysteries in the plot. The plot twists are fun. The setting/world is interesting and detailed.

The author is really good at being descriptive. Too many details and blobs of info might turn away some readers, but I feel that it's not really a serious issue. The poetic descriptions match the theme of music, right?

There are references that might be a bit annoying, but they're not too significant.

First of all, the world is incredible, the power system is extremely interesting and has so much depth, not to mention the involvement of music which just gives it uniqueness and class.

This is the kind of story you want to love before you even begin reading it, but then you do, and everything about the development leaves you wanting. All throughout my reading I had one thought in my head 'i wish this world and power system was created by a better author'...

The main character is the absolutely typical cultivation... more>> cliche MC, everyone is wrong, he is right. Everyone is more talented than me, many of them work as hard or harder than me, but I still progress faster than everyone else. I'm the only being on the planet with a special instrument, apparently.

It's just so sad... the world... the music... the potential. Everything, it's all there, if only... <<less

Definitely in my top 5.

It was an emotional read for me. The MC had to struggle to maintain his beliefs. The world building was extremely unique but sometimes the power system was confusing. The best parts of this novel are the characters and the complex plot. The MC is also the most likeable MC I've ever read, even with so much suffering and darkness, he managed to continue believing in his aspirations.

There were also light and funny moments.

Anyway, it's a hit or a miss for people so check it out.

The plot is deep in this novel. I cannot say you will like it or not but I am sure those who like Mystery will love this novel. Moreover, its one of the few novels having such a complex power system that goes out of the normal cultivation system. Also, some analogies of famous characters are present in the story like the famous kings of music.

Overall a good read. There were some really strong chapters in this novel, but also some really bad one.

The quality of this novel really went through a curve, but overall a good read with great world building and and in some places surprisingly deep.

I’ll give this novel 5 stars just to offset some of the bad reviews.

I think people should give this novel a chance. The ending wraps it up nicely and very fittingly.

I'll give it a solid 4. Because it gives me the feeling that i've had reading other novels or short stories or books and even watching movies or one or two tv shows *the midnight gospel one of them* in which not only is the world very alive... but is also very deep... very deep to read yourself. And I find it difficult to read it at anytime. Since right now my list tells me this one is next, but I wanted more other kind of novel, seeing how this... more>> one goes I don't wanna read it impatiently, and would probably read it in a trip (if I ever go outside, hewh) or in someone esle's house; I rather.

This is something really rare for me, and is a one-work-author job, so I'm going to respect it how it deserves. Just like how I'm glad I didn't watch The Dragon Prince at its season 2 and only started once season 3 had already been there and season 4 was on production while some other seasons have been confirmed. The Dragon Prince was by far the best tv show i've watched non-anime (Code Geass, Bounen no Xamdou, Garo: Honoon no Kokuin) style. And it's something not vanilla but neither is it depressive. And I get something from it when I watched the first minutes of the first episode of TDP and then left it, I just rather watch it when I feel like I should. Thank you, Feng Yue. <<less

My first review even though I have been reading for years. It is such a bitter sweet action packed story. So many twists that I sometimes just wanna punch someone in the face. It became one of my favorite stories. I dont know if the MC is super lucky or extremely unlucky.
