One of the fantastic things about the novel is Green's allies. In many novels the MC makes allies throughout the novel, and after many chapters they are forgotten, or they become useless that only serves to be rescued at the last minute by the MC.

In AOD things are very different. Here even the companions that Green does at the beginning of the novel, even in the current chapters, they still manage to be of much help to Green. They have their own problems, thoughts and goals, and the better, they... more>> manage to turn around alone.

There was a war involving Green's family, and he was stuck in a certain place and could not participate. It is their wives who have decided to join and fight in the war - although Green has wives, it does not mean that they are useless, each has its own influence. - In the end, their wives won the war alone, without depending on the interference of the MC.

The plot and the MC are ok. The story flows very well, the secondary characters are not very s*upid, and are able to think, the new planes that the MC explores are very good too. The MC knows to behave, to think and to plan, although he sometimes makes some strange decisions, he is a MC ok.

Green's story and power up may leave some readers frustrated. There is a total of 9 ranks, in chapter 1341 Green is still in rank 4, for some readers who like to see the MC cultivating at the speed of light, this may frustrate them a little. Another thing that may frustrate readers is also Green's own main power, it's fire, it's very common. In 1341 chapters Green is still in rank 4, I do not know how many chapters he'll need to get to rank 9 - if rank 9 is a limit to immortality -

It's a good read, it's worth giving a try. <<less

A nice gem. Dark and morbid, this novel is really a hit or miss. It's neither you like it or hate. While it is good, it has a lot of filler.

His cheat is the standard magic chip, that eventually gets regulated to being perfect memory and assistance brain.

Author also doesn't give much to proper explanations about the adepts power. He'll go over it once and that's it. Thought there are plotholes that the author writes him into, most of them aren't really that important or haven't been properly explain.

Main heroines... more>> get a lot of screen time. They aren't really that bad. The world the story is set in has human experimention as a norm so the characters haven't a couple screws loose is common.

This novel is nice change from the standard chinese novel of one-on-one and the advancing to a higher realm. Here it's mainly group battles and most of the planes introduced are all on the same level with no higher realm. <<less

As everyone know every standard earth technology (biochip) display RACE, Strength, Agility, Physique as basic. Also Alignment, Spirit, Skills, HP and Experience - nonexistent on earth ones.
And that only on second chapter, later it become even more absurd.

As for MC: Imagine 5 years old kid reincarnated in another world with accompanying AI. Although author try to say otherwise, he in on this level mentally.

This novel is alot better than other novels. It has many aspects of "Warlock of the Magus World", but the good thing is, that it isn´t so dark. The MC has a good personality; isn´t some naive or hypocritycal person, who saies one thing but does something totaly different after few chapters.
Spoiler

A few people might think, it has a tendency to a harem genre, but my opinion over it is, that until now (chapter 258) the MC never made or had the idea to be an haremking. Alright he has only female companions (i don´t count the goblin in to it), but never made an pe*vert aciont against them even against Alice, his s*ave.

[collapse]

I give it a five-star review because the MC has the powers, which even I find really cool and badass.

I really like this series. It about crawling your way up in a brutal world where there's no truths just power. Might make right.

The first thing I noticed was that it was way more gamelike then WMW with EXP, stats (strength, agility, physique and spirit) and limited amounts of spells that can be learned. That's not to say these are bad because the aren't. There's a bit more vagueness than I would like but it's not a deal breaker either. I'll probably update this in the future but as of right now I would recommend adding this to your reading list.

Interseting story woth trying even if it's just the beginning. It has something WMW lack this is romance. I didn't say it was better than WMW I can't judge for now. Acording to me the MC is still not ready (mentally) to get strong in this dog eats dog world of adepts. Bravo for the translator and the editor. They form an amazing team and furthemore they want to make a living of translating novels. I dare say that in not so much time they will be recognize as a... more>> team of quality by all the community. <<less

Even the author got bored, how much more the reader. The easiest ending the author made was simply to kill the MC and the end. Not gonna read any more of this authors novel. It's simply frustrating.

good story, it's better to read until chapter 1510 only, the remaining 2 chapters have a bad ending, well the author has a reason why ending this novel very quickly with only the last 2 chapters... read Assin's comments, if the author gets a problem like that, this is quite sad...

This novel is good, the story line is well structured, I don't find much repetition... I've also read the Warlock of the Magus World novel, honestly this AOA novel is better because the writing of the story line and the... more>> story itself is better (not too much)...

Honestly, don't start this novel if you havent already. It ends abruptly with no real conclusion to the story. I'm not even talking about other novels that kind of conclude but its rushed, the author just straight up abandoned the novel mid story. It was a good ride for what it was, but felt like a waste of time at the end.

I really enjoyed this novel. I always waited for the release of the next chapter.

I am not sure why they keep comparing this to wmw too much as it is not that similar. The only similarity is that both possess an AI chip after reincarnation.

I think the plot is nice and it does pay attention to the side characters, which is fun to read about.

I would have rated this novel 5 stars but I am very disappointed with the ending, just like everyone else over here. It doesn't feel like... more>> an ending, but more like the author gave up and didn't want to continue the story so he just ended it. I mean you have no idea its going to end on 1512 while reading 1511. <<less

I've been suffering for the last 50 chapters to try and see if it would get better, or at least stop getting worse, but there is no salvation, only growing disappointment

First thing: the novel is a straight up plagarism of Warlock in a Magus World. This isn't necessarily a bad thing since WMW is a 5 star novel. Age of the Adepts instead takes all the ideas from WMW, the worldbuilding, the concepts of roads to power, the organizational systems, the way to create spells and to research... and does... more>> a completely garbage job at creating a incredibly shallow and inconsitent copy of them.

It is apparent that the author is just a fanboy without an original mind that wants to create a nice story based on WMW, but lacks the proper ability to create something unique. He ends up creating a confused mess between the tropes of AI chips and Gaming settings, continuosly going from one to the other without realizing it. There is a general lack of planning on worldbuilding, rules and facts: what is stated in one chapter will be disproven or contradicted in another. The most glaring one is how a character is presented as a 14 year old, but some chapters later it is said that she is 27 with a permanent look of a 7 years old... WTF!!!

Almost all interactions between characters are without a logic, both under the societal rules of the fictional world as they are presented to us, and the common human interactions of normal people. It seems that the author has never had a human relationships and all his knowledge on the matter is based on scrappy web novel.

Final suggestion: instead of reading this novel read WMW, read it again if you already have, or go search/do something else, make use of the sacrifice that we made reading this crap by avoiding it and go read something else, possibly a real book <<less

If you're a fan of this genre of novel, it's worth reading for that alone. The huge escalating battlefields and conspiracies are quite a sight to behold, and it's a good introduction to the genre. I read this during a cruise trip, and let me tell you I do not regret bleeding my wallet to buy the expensive internet service at all.

Unfortunately, a few hundred chapters in the novel will being to to lose its steam due to the sheer amount of time the plot takes to move forward, with... more>> heavy repetition of basic plot points:

Spoiler

Grimm trains and explores --> his guild tries to hold the fort against enemies --> they almost lose --> last second Grimm ascends, hops in and saves the day

[collapse]

I read ahead a bit using machine translations (my chinese isn't good enough for the raws lol) and it turns out the ending is basically a rehash of a mid story arc except with bigger guns. That's got to be one of the biggest letdowns in web novel history.

TLDR; Read a few hundred chapters, enjoy the ride, get bored, GTFO <<less

Age of Adepts is one of my favourites out of hundreds of online novels I've read and am reading so far.

AoA brings an interesting plotline, a unique and interesting path to power, an MC with an interesting personality and plenty of strong enemies to overcome.

I think what makes it shine for me is that Greem has to fumble his way through a peculiar, dangerous, treacherous and infinitely complex world to do three things on a path where he barely knows the next step in front of him, keeping both him... more>> (and me) on our toes:

  1. Survive - all along there are always challenges, opponents and situations that cut to the bone, are out to get him and his life is at stake where a single misstep can lead to his demise and becoming "nutrients", if you will, for others. Again and again he gets thrown treacherous curveballs and has to use everything available to him to deal with these and make it out the other end alive.
  2. Finding Truth - Greem is incredibly driven to understand the new world he became a part of. Though not always explicitly he always has both short and long term goals. The short term goals usually revolve around figuring out and researching the next steps through the murky path to the "next level" and increasing his power. The long term goal he seems to have set is to reach the pinnacle of power and understanding of the world and become a

ninth rank Great Adept (or higher if such a thing even exists)

    [collapse]
    .
  3. Live well - Though Greem gets thrown about somewhat by forces greater then himself, he is deep down a caring person and wants to protect those close to him and ensure they have a good life together. This ties in with NR 1, as many people don't like some of the relationships he has and seek to drive wedges in between them, which Greem and his close ones work hard to overcome together, attempting to secure their own footing and ability to live the way they deem right.
As with any novel of this length, there are sometimes a few chapters in between the excitement where the pace seems slower. Personally I don't see anything wrong with that as a good novel has both the ups and the downs, the fast and the slow etc., it simply fleshes out and paints a more whole picture of a world rather than constant flash & bang.

That said I think you'll really enjoy Age of Adepts if you enjoy a broadly constructed world with depth where both you and the MC are exploring a unique and different world.

Other titles that spring to mind that have similarities with AoA are Warlock of the Magus World, Warlock's Apprentice, A Sorcerer's Journey, The Wizard World. If you enjoyed those I'm pretty sure you'll find lots you like in Age of Adepts.

Many thanks to the author & translators for such an amazing novel! <<less

Compared to Warlock of Magus World & Abyss Domination, this one has slow good progress sadly the ending is REGRETFUL.

I'm done with this one I chose to dropped, ever since I've seen the ending it's utter mess.

The author could've explore more but unfortunately didn't.
for example.
I've expected him to leave descendants after completing his bloodline body, or fuse the devouring spider he got from the earlier chapters to his DNA for further mutations after.

I'm currently at 1418 then went to see the last chapter, but hell what I got is a cliffhanger and a s*upid ending.

My view of the MC turned upside down when he was

powerlessly swallowed by the 8th tier fire monarch then using his body escaped from the abyss after some fate counterattacks from Alice by sacrificing the Daughter of Plane title from Lucia.

it's upsetting to see from his total badass character to fall from some clichè machinations. Which makes you think obviously he wants to resurrect.

Although Leylin of WMW got done by distorted shadow it's not this f*ckin' bad when the author decided To END it with [END OF THE BOOK]

a great novel with same cheat as warlock of magus world but besides that it is lot different than wmw. Its like aoa is very elaborate and detailed version of wmw with lots of extra things

good points-

  • good plotline
  • detailed character description
  • no r*pe and taking mc's lover hostage plots
  • limited skills that MC and other main characters uses, that are easy to remember
  • biological chip is OP but not deus ex machina [chip analyses and gives possible outcomes, MC chooses and takes risks ]
  • novel shows the growth of many sub characters, not just mc
some... more>> downsides-

  • unnecessarily detailed description of background or scenery [it sometimes takes more than half the chapter just describing background]
comparison with warlock of magus world-

  • wmw focuses only on MC while aoa focuses on many other important characters as well
  • wmw total lack of romance ; aoa a bit of romance
  • wmw MC runs a lot in whole novel while making some enemies ; aoa MC has got a clan so a fixed base
  • wmw MC is majestic, amazing entrances, saving damsel in distress ; aoa few suspense scenes
  • wmw fast pace; aoa slow pace and sometime becomes ultra slow
  • wmw- only two faction gods and magi; aoa lots of factions like adepts, gods, scourge lords, dragons, titans etc.

The story is undoubtedly good. A fantasy world full of dark and morbid characters. But it failed to really capture the essence of that world. It focus too much on the process of fighting instead of the actual plot line. Too many characters that could have been easily explored to expand the worlds politics which could have been epic.

Too much unnecessary detail has been put towards the process of every growth of the main character and his allies. And yet it still failed to make our supposed hero powerful which... more>> only made the process pointless. 500+ chapters and our MC is still the same as he is 400 chapters ago. Like I said, pointless.

This could have easily been 4 stars or more if not for these series of irrelevant events that happens constantly all through out the novel.

Still a very good read though. Recommended. <<less

As mentioned in other reviews, this novel steals quite a lot of things from Warlock of the magus world... and I'm still giving this 5 stars.

Because for me at least, this is exactly the kind of novel I wanted WMW to be. The protagonist isn't just evil for evil's sake, but he knowingly chooses immoral actions and discards his own humanity for resources and power.

This novel also has excellent world building, including politics that force the MC to make difficult choices and compromises. The MC's companions are interesting and are... more>> allowed to achieve things on their own. Progression is 'slow', but because of that the mayor level ups truly mean something and give the characters something to constantly strive for.

Currently this is simply my favorite novel here on NU. <<less

Similar to WMW.. But has much more differences, but in a good way. AoA did what WMW couldn't, MC here actually has allies he can count on and doesnt need to be worried about getting stabbed in the back. He treats his allies with care and enemies with hate. The side characters are not 1 dimensional and worships MC, nor are the bad guys. There is actually thinking and planning.

Give it a try if you liked WMW at first and stopped due to how shitty the scumbag MC is.

Fire rate for this book should be around 4 as it is.

Main pros:

Interesting world with complex relationships between characters and fractions

... more>> Actions of hero is reasonable as for normal man who transfered to other world (and he not "jacked around by women" maybe only a little bit in start but not in further) and have balance between kindness and cruelty as for me

Hero is not womanaizer as many other MCs and womans around him have they own individuality and good writed stoty. As well as they also good part of main story.

Main cons

Powers of MC is too common and not interesting. He just fire mage with chip (that not help him in level ups directly). And chip is main strength of hero because with that help he can create and use OP golems.

Story progression is quite slow.

Sometimes MC not use his own brains and ask chip s*upid questions like "Chip what happened around me?", "Chip how me wash my ass?" and so on <<less
