it's a well written story, the plot is definitely just a solid "ok." but it was still an entertaining book. Plot might be shallow as hell but the writing skills of the author are very good, and my personal favorite moments were the comments the netizens would leave. I think it would best be compared to those cliche but lighthearted romance novels like "the CEO's villainess childhood friend".

That said, if you're looking for depth you might as well keep going. There's no real opposition, MC's god tier talent for modeling... more>> basically trumps all whether it be enemies or gathering allies. Everything usually gets wrapped up by modeling/releasing damning blackmail, everyone is enthralled, enemies eat shit, the end. There's no character development either, everyone stays exactly the same from beginning to end. The Chinese nationalism is VERY strong in this one so be warned. To be fair though this is originally a novel intended only for Chinese readers. It gets old especially quick while binging but the author probably never expected someone to translate the whole thing into English for others to read, so honestly I say take it with a grain of salt since we (English readers) weren't the target audience anyways. If you're bothered by that sort of thing however, best to just leave; there's a lot of "Huaxia's the best" and rattle on about Huaxia's got the most power/can suppress other countries, has better models than everyone, better designers, richer culture (america's 300 vs Huaxia's 5000), etc etc.

Overall; decent book purely for the writing skill of the author, but the plot is as deep as a bowl of cereal and you're really just kind waiting for MC and ML to get together. I don't recommend binging this story either, it can get a bit repetitive so best to take it slow. <<less

Decided to read some BL before the end of my LN phase, and this is definitely a new favorite. I love this novel so much. I think it's the perfect story, tbh.

MC is perfect. He's the uke but he's strong. He's OP at what he does, clever, confident, black bellied yet approachable. Literally he's clawed his way up to be the very best in his previous life, and his previous life is quite tragic, though to no one's fault. But luckily, the MC was able to bring his talent and... more>> personality, combine it with the OP body, and become totally dominant. The ML is adorable as well. He's as usual domineering, possessive, etc., but he doesn't push the MC up to the top. He controls himself pretty well, only supporting the MC (quite lavishly) from the back, and just acting as his biggest brain-dead fan in general.

Often the story was really amusing. The glaring weaknesses of the MC (acting and cooking and handwriting) are in no way smoothed over, which quite dramatically sets the MC up in a more human manner by saying you see this perfect supermodel has these total failures. I've also found myself a big fan of these modern novels, if only for the absolutely hilarious Weibo or Weibo-esque fan comments. I live for these comments. I think I've seen them probably in the MWFRL universe stories, GoM or GoC stories, and then here, and possibly in other ones. They're just hilarious and so relatable. Plus all the kaomoji really add impact to the comments. Sometimes I wish our celebrities were that dog food-like or hilarious on Weibo. Or possibly they are. These are the times I regret not brushing up on my Chinese enough.

The romance is still one of my favorite parts though. The MCxML might not be one of those cavity-inducing couples that say I love you all over the place, but they fall for each other and don't hesitate to make that known to each other. I don't deny that they're really pe*verted (some of the best s*x scenes ever, and I'm the type to look for those) and absolutely a black bellied bickering couple, but especially later in the story I definitely started crying multiple times from their indirect proclamations of love. Plus in the extras when the ML sees and accompanies the MC's previous life, which I thought was quite new, I also became quite emotional. Oh yeah, many thanks to those who suggested reading on ck101, or else I might have missed the extras. I skipped the LCxST (?) ones, just bc I was too invested in the main couple to care about them, though I'm sure they're really good.

Sigh. Frickin love this story. It's definitely risen to one of my top 5 light novels ever. We'll see if the other one is as good. <<less

Definitely one of the best story I've read. Really worth reading the novel in Chinese.

Spoiler

Bear with me here, this is the first review I have ever done on this site.

Now let me tell you what I love about this story. Even though it is the mainstream story of transmigration but unlike any other story where the MC is s*upidly OP and full of drama, the MC for this novel is not OP (although the MC really are the number 1 Supermodel in terms of shooting and catwalks) and actually really bad at some things. Ex. Acting. He is so bad at acting that even his fans, agent, and the ML like to poke fun at him for it. But in times he is getting better after much dedication that everyone has to applause him for his hard work. The novel is very well paced, and of course, my favorite part of this story is the love story between the MC and the ML. Not much drama that leads up to the MC and the ML to be together, but it is solid, and you can definitely tell how sincere their love is (mind you, I even cried at the love letter the MC wrote to the ML). Even the ending is not rushed and it lives up to your expectation that you can't help having the sense of fulfillment after reading it.

I liked the story premise at the start. The MC is a really awesome character. I can't say the same about the ML (I mean, he is simply a bully) . The ML is an as*hole simple as that .

I come from the west. I didn't know so many Chinese people are xenophobic towards the western people. I was born in India and I know what's National spirit is, but this is blatant hate towards other races. The only I think I hated about the MC is that he... more>> too thinks that as he comments about western people being ugly and dumb.

I already know that Chinese people value white skin more (if u want proof, go read any novels written here and u will see) but I didn't know it reached this level where a author writes blatant racist novel and still gets compared to other famous novels like FOD. I read some reviews to get some hope but people liking this for the "National spirit " portrayed by the author really gets my mood low.

One thing I hated hated very much in this novel is the hypocrisy. The MC gets called in a racial slur and think injustice has been done to him and gets redemption, but proceed to call and propagate western people as mindless dumb people and stereotype them (being a racist) .

I liked the transgender model way more than these hypocrites.

I have been racially profiled before and I come to find safe haven in fantasy and books , but reality shows that racist people are everywhere. <<less

7 THINGS I HAVE TO SAY

So far so freaking amazing!!!!!

  • The MC is super clever and definitely not a white lotus!!! He's super hard-working and believes in his own strength. Plus, he enjoys challenges even when he's at a disadvantage and works hard to make up for it.
  • The ML listens to MC and respects the MC. Also, he has great humor. Their relationship is great. They flirt together, have inside jokes. Ugh I LOVE THEM!!!
  • Also, the supporting characters are great. They each have their quirks and their own personalities. It's not just the models MC connects with but also the photographers, designers, movie directors and actors/actresses. Not mention there's a side relationship!!!
  • The cannon-fodder villains of the story are greedy, egotistical and usually are the ones to start messing with the MC so if you like face-slapping this is your webnovel! MC is no push-over!
  • There is also a lot of world-building in this webnovel which I really like. The MC really takes time to figure out the fashion industry world. There's also a lot of different magazines/brands. (Suyi, Muse, Garcia, etc.) But the author mentions them again and again in so readers don't automatically forget but also enough that it doesn't get repetitive either. There is no immediate relationship with MC and ML because MC is working hard to conquer the modeling world.
  • Also, the designs of outfits are really detailed. The author writes about the patterns, embroidery, and jewelry. Right down to the materials used. It's really easy to picture in your mind.
  • THE FANS!!! The fans are freaking adorable! The comments on Weibo are hilarious not to mention the side accounts of some celebrities hype up the fans. Also, ridiculous/adorable nickname is created about MC which is as random as you expect of the internet. Of course there's also the dreaded petty fans but when there's a war between fans things are bound to get a bit deadly. Beware of the sunspots.
Overall, I got no complaints on my front. I will continue to read this webnovel and comment later for final thoughts. But I think my mind is already made up that this story worked hard for 5 stars!!!

I dropped it and that too at this point.. Some may consider it early but I go by the principle and if a novel can't attract your attention then it's not worth reading..

This novel in the first 20 chapters did absolutely nothing!

IT shows Xenophobia with a Mary Sue Protagonist with a golden finger. I was quiet interested in reading this and had great expectations after reading "Rebirth of a Movie star" but I couldn't handle it.

The MC has looks beyond imagination and the whole world is obsessed with beauty- The... more>> MC can make anyone bend but he is not too feminine nor masculine. Clothes worn by him looks heavenly that he can be called the best clothes rack ever after the ML. The ML literally notices him because of his good looks. Oh and the MC can control his aura which is possessed only by supermodels.

What bullsh*t is this? It feels like the author got s**ked into a cultivation novel but then decided to make the setting modern. AND the XENOPHOBIA - It's not even concealed, It was wayy too much and was another reason I dropped it.

You know when we read some books we skip over a few ines but then we go back and the read it again to get it into it's essence? Here I skipped paragraphs and felt like nothing was missing. The Protagonist is soo great that even if you skip a few lines you will immediately know what was going to happen.

The plot was so dragged and watery. It made me feel like I was forcing myself to read this.

The translator did a great job and the writing style was good - That is the only reason why I think this deserves 1 star. I don't even know how some of you read the whole book without dropping it midway <<less

Lemme tell you one thing, the moment you come across this book do not hesitate to start reading it at once! I am absolutely in love with everything in this book, the romance wasn't rushed and the characters weren't badly written. Each character stood out from the rest and you knew who was who.

At the beginning when I saw the number of chapters I thought I would get bored half way through, but decided to give it a read anyways cause it seemed interesting. And honestly I thought wrong. The... more>> book did not bore me in any way, shape or form. It was perfect from beginning to end. I am really thankful to whoever translated this book because they did so very well.

Overall, this books was extremely good one with perfect amounts of everything; a definite five star.

I’m dropping this at chapter 23. I made a mistake to trust the reviews and not my own sense.

i didn’t want to read a shallow story about goodlooking but boring characters. There been no humor to me... not even satire, sarcasm or irony.

Besides the boring life of a supermodel... and endless shows and repeating comments such as ahh he is so goodlooking (we already got it), I couldn’t find any plot. So I leave it at that. The translations been a bit weird at the beginning but you get used... more>> to it. <<less

Well grounded characters and good pacing combined with good dialogue makes this a fun and enjoyable read.

It's not frustrating at all because the characters are sincere. Smooth transitions. Definitely recommended.

The only thing annoying is the strong nationalism woven in. It's the same kind of annoyance I get when authors go on and on about a character's appearance. It's just too ham fisted; a little more subtleness would have been better.

I almost didn't read this gem because of some negative reviews because I'm easily (maybe too much) influenced by them, don't do the same mistake !

This is a gem, an adventure, a really really good BL and honestly if you love romance, BL or the entertainment genre, you will miss such a good novel (the better I read until now)

I don't really have words too describe this, and I don't want to spoil anything but just read at least 10 chapters and you won't be able to get out... more>> of here.

To me the translation was really good, I didn't sense any xenophobia and I like both the ML and MC equally : they can be ruthless but only against those who deserved it
Spoiler

It was really good to finally have one novel with real vengeances like with Cheng Su, and not too much pains for the MC

[collapse]

PS : I'm french so sorry for the grammatical mistakes

Spoiler

The end was amazing and really moved me with the story of Ming Yu and Xi Ye crying for him... Really beautiful

Overall Is So-So.

The Plot:3/5

The Details:1.8/5

No Challenge/Too Smooth.

Use to much Cannon Fodder to promote to Ranking 1 in the process, 1-3 Is okay but it's 4+.

The Balance Is so bad, Basically 7% Is for The plot between MC and ML, 1.5% Is for the Road to the Top Supermodel, 0.5% Is for the unnecessary praise (too long) /unnecessary mutiple POV, 1% Is for the plot that Is unnecessary.

Even You can skip the chapter there Is no loss.

Oh please! This is the first time I've written a review because I really love this novel. This may not suit everyone's taste, but it would be great if you like it! You guys should decide by yourself whether to continue reading it or not.

Ps. You need to remember that this is just a novel or you're just reading a novel, not a history book or something. Alot of things may not make sense; however, if you want everything to be realistic then why not just go and watch the documentary, a moral movie, Or read a historical books instead? Moreover, some of you guys act as if racism doesn't happen in real life.

Oh man, this one cracked me up a lot. Don't misunderstand, it's not like jokes or situations here were actually funny, but it was so absurd that I couldn't help myself lol.

Descriptions... couldn't be any more exaggerated. Like, imagine a pretty handsome boy wearing sum high-end clothes and walking. Jesus f*cking Christ, it's that simple. What's with those "gestures oozing elegance and charm and other positive words"? Or "that aura bruh, I tell ya, he tries so hard to conceal it but it just leaks and makes others feel like... more>> worshipping him as their ancestor"? Am I missing sth or is it a cultivation novel in disguise? Maybe dudes there are aura operating machines that just function abnormally sometimes?

This aura, I'll never be able to get it. In a f*cking novel focusing on fashion, discussion about "aura" is 100 times more memorable than clothes. The author just mentions sum colors, not to mention %90 of the clothes worn or modeled are casual wear like jeans or t-shirts, and glosses them over in a flash. But aura? The handsomeness of our MCs? Don't get me started.

What dumbfounded me and made me laugh the hardest tho, was firms's attitude. You have a walk-down show, you've been preparing for it for a long ass time and quite proud of products, only to see sum 2nd rate model steal your light. So much so that even the most professional critics just make a "not half bad" evaluation for your clothes and proceed to praise that model selling meng from start to end. It got me thinking "Ugh, hello? Weren't we here to see this season's clothes and flex about it? Couldn't you hold your idol worship season another time? Also, dude, restrain that aura, AC here is working just fine."

Lmaooo who would hire such a model? At least I would be ded before I even considered it.

So, in terms of realism, it's a surrealist piece of work. Characters? Bland. Humor tho, for sarcastic asses such as myself, is 5/5. Translator, you worked hard, blink twice if some fujoshi with bad taste is forcing you.

P.s: I don't understand all "there is racism!!" rage. It was obvious from the first chapters, when author proudly declared that China was at the top of the world. With such fact being blatantly obvious, sum minor villains' "yellow monkeys" ridicule is bad writing <<less

These review are mostly 0 or 100, my god. I don't really have much more to say that hasn't already been said so let's just leave some things:

    1. THIS IS THE NOVEL EQUIVALENT OF CHIK-FIL-A. Alright??? It's fast food--mostly fluff, substance not required. The food tastes pretty good but you can't expect 3 Michelin Stars. The service is pretty good but the CEO donates to discriminatory organizations. The writing is ok but the plot is repetitive and the author has obvious hang-ups about the international perception of China. The analogy works. Some people will really enjoy reading or really hate it, and some people won't feel that strongly either way. Personally, I like to read fluff sometimes just so I can turn my brain off for a while.
    1. THIS... more>> IS A WEBNOVEL. Aside from a certain level of popularity, there is almost no vetting process for putting these works on the Internet (aside from the CCP censors that ruthlessly cut away all mentions of sex). Webnovel publishing sites like jjwxc do have contracts with their authors but I doubt that there's any sort of substantial editing or management that accompanies that contract as it would in traditional publishing. Authors make money through their readers, similar to the Patreon or tapas model. This means that inevitably, many authors will cater to fads and trends, sometimes at the expense of what people would consider "professional, good writing." Plus, it's not like English-language publishing has such high-brow standards either---clearly, Fifty Shades of Grey got published and sold well. Clearly, Dan Brown continues to make money. Don't be hypocritical.
    1. XENOPHOBIA. People are really throwing this term around? I mean, considering that the author didn't really mention any country in particular except for America and only in that one arc about international modeling, I classify this as Americanophobia rather than general xenophobia. The portrayal of Americans was...I can't even be surprised anymore, I just have to accept that this is ONE prevailing image and stereotype people have of us abroad. See the European stereotypes of Americans, see the Japanese stereotypes of Americans, see this novel's stereotypes of Americans. Anybody heard those jokes about American tourists?? I'm sure there's more out there that I haven't even seen yet. I'm conflicted about this. As an American, that's offensive and too reductive. Like, in terms of how many blondes we have per capita lol, Northern Europe has got us beat by farrrr. Like, people are coming from all over the world to attend American universities. Like, there are numerous thinkers, philosophers, scientists, artists, writers, poets, engineers, doctors, actors, models (gotta mention them in a review about this novel???) from America that are exceptional professionals and people. On the other hand, I read this arc as a direct response to the prevalent Sinophobia and general tr*shing of China that still appears and has appeared for years in American media. That racist sh*t that the American netizens were slinging in the novel--as an American of Asian-descent, I can say that I have seen it IRL especially during these COVID times. I wouldn't be so quick to shrug that aspect off; America is lightyears away from being a post-racial society and forget this one writer from China, real Americans are suffering from the effects of racism in their own country. So TL;DR the author's wrong, but not totally wrong about America.
Anyway hope that's a clarifying review even though I didn't talk about the plot hahahaha in the middle of all these love-it-or-hate-it opinions. <<less

Good story and fun couple with an actual healthy, grown up, give and take relationship. ML here might not be as funny as God Qin from SA but he's got his own endearing quirks. The MC is OP when it comes to modeling, but he's very human when it comes to other things like acting or cooking. He has to learn step by step just like the rest of us.

The nationalism and racism is not as in your face in this story as it is in many of the others,... more>> though it is there. I've come to the conclusion that all Chinese novels set in the modern era are required to add it lest the author risk being blacklisted or something. Bad yes, but not LotMG bad.

This is my second novel by this author and it shares some similarities (same alterverse, some of the same side characters) with Superstar Aspirations. If you liked SA than you will probably like RS, though honestly, I liked SA better. Lots of fluff and very mild on the angst. The MC's obsessive focus on topping the ML and always failing was funny at first but it dragged on way too long and made him seem more like a petulant child, which didn't fit with the established and mature character design. Final score is between 4 and 4.5.

Big thank you to Rainbow Turtle for picking this to translate! And for the speedy releases. <<less

This is the first novel that I’ve had to drop because of the amount of propaganda in it... You see it in a lot of novels in a more lowkey way but this was really... a lot. I will say I didn’t mind how mind numbing the romance was or how repetitive the conflict was because I just wanted a fluffy little romance but every chapter seemed to get worse in terms of the propaganda and xenophobia and I just had to stop. I like face-slapping stories a lot but this one just did the most. Constantly inserting random people to sh*t on the MC and then having a UNO reverse moment got tiring at some point. The plot was redundant, "wear clothes, pose for pictures, model, have the whole world fawn over you, repeat". I guess it's easy for some to ignore since it has such high... more>> ratings but it honestly pissed me off at times. The way some races were put on pedestals while others were barely even mentioned or just put in there in passing didn't sit right with me. Like "Oh XYZ the most beautiful model went for a shoot in Africa", which is a whole ass continent, not a country, but there was no mention of an African model anywhere. xenophobia: Let us ignore Xenophobia for now. It is authors imaginary world.

Aura: what the hell is “aura”, like this word is used at least once in every sentence. I think the author thought it is like a magic broom or Aladdin light. Seriously.

Knowledge: The author has no sense of fashion industry or it’s audience. The fans described in this novel are projected like a fans of idol drama. Fashion industry is for mature and high end audience. Please do some basic homework before writing anything.

Characters: All the people described are... more>> rude with no manners. Public figures don’t behave like that. Even if you do face slapping they do with decency in almost all countries. Author probably had an assumption that he/she made their country proud by writing this, but this actually insulted the public figures of China, because I didn’t think they would behave this weird, but reading this I started doubting.

Writing: Every statement is exaggerated. People are startled/stunned. People definitely admire good looking people. MC is described like some otherworldly. There is nothing novel about this novel.

Translation: This is probably a collaborative failure, not sure author is immature or the translator. <<less
