Blind nationalism and unnecessary racism aside.. This novel is pretty Impressive...!

Pretty decent novel and maybe one of the few smart choice of choosing a supposed to be translated novel in Qidian considering how majority of their translated novels were pretty low quality and extremely generic to the point that most of them have the same plot and theme with only different way of tinkering as its difference.. [Fact]

Anyway! To be extremely Honest, I don't know why but I always have hard time reading novels with females as its lead. Even... more>> if picked one I often most of the time dropped them halfway. With few exception such as (My Disciple died yet again and Stunning Edge) However, despite how picky I am. This novel truly deserve a spot toward my picky exceptions. and here are some reason for that..

Reason of exceptions:

•Catchy
•Immersive
•More amazing when compared to its male counterparts with the same theme and genre
•Written by a woman but with broad mind and not lacking compared to some male novelist in the same genre..
•Nice plot
•Great/Cool Female lead
•Dominance Dao chapter amazed me
•Good Quality
•Entertaining and Interesting
•MC being female is nothing but huge plot advantage but despite that her gender isnt annoying and sometimes even negligible..
•Unique

A good novel is an interestings and entertaining novel which this novel both have. When a novel lost those quality then a novel could no longer be called a novel but simply a book left somewhere to rot and never to be read again.

If you have seen my point. Then you should understand that The novel simply need more love and in no way deserve despising. MUST READ!

TL;DR

Truly Recommended in both men and women. Teen and adults alike. and a Must read! <<less

Rating is not due to this being a Qidian novel. I repeat not. I disliked how the MC had no goals. The only reason she grew stronger was because she was forced to. Though when she finally does get a goal it is freaking hilarious. Dropping this due to children being tortured and blatant Japanese hate. Seriously can you be anymore obvious? The evil enemy empire screaming baka...

The character development is well done and the interactions between each character is interesting. I personally enjoy the cross dressing aspect but I feel that it hasn't really been brought up much. Its more like just a character setting at this point. (Will edit if any changes.) The reasons for the MC's strength is also well explained rather than just leaving it as her being a genius.

Overall, I think it is well written and the translation quality and release rate is good.

p.s The description spoils the plot which is a... more>> shame as the MC is still only 10 and her father is not really mentioned much as of yet <<less

Weak setup and world building. Really break immersion of the world when readers will be unable to accept that 10000 years and language dont change when in just 100 years its hard to read the writings of those time. Its not hard to write the protagonist learn the language in the womb for example, malleable brain and constant immersion help. Protagonist's golden finger have no internal logic - its supposed to be attached to babies but the instructors dont act like they are dealing with s*upid babies.

Excessive explanation on unneeded... more>> things. For example I feel compelled to skip several paragraphs because its too boring with no info.

Bland characters. Mary sue is mary sue, if all the other aspect of the world is interesting, mary sue may be good as a point to show off the world, but since it is not, interesting lead is needed. <<less

I would never read a book with a female lead written by a female, because there would be alot of feminist pr and I would hate watching a reverse harem. However this book is great so far and also some guy whos read the whole thing was talking about there being no harem and no romance until 800+ chapters. I did see a bit of that "sexism" bs but its not a big deal atm, this author is very good at structuring the story. Its like a IET story with... more>> more details and no excessive bs. I hope it maintains its clean structure and doesn't drop in quality. <<less

It's actually a good Novel, I would give a 4.5

– The plot is good, at times a bit too much but really interesting and fun to read.

– The main characters are all likeable, and their constant growth is evident.

– The romance doesn't have a strong presence (at all) and even a #nolovecrap user like me found it realistic.

– Good Translation and fluent sentences, easy to read.

– The action is T.O.P, the drama too, just:

Spoiler

The protagonist's father "died" like two time and both were fake (he actually survived but nobody knows), I mean, a lil too much, I mean if I were the protagonist i'd just kill him once and for all, his wife be like "I'm done with yo sh*t dear", " either you die or i'll get another heart attack".

This is literally the best novel I have ever read. Excellent cultivation elements, excellent action, excellent character development, excellent supporting cast, excellent drama, excellent plot... it's just amazing. Little filler in 1500 chapteres and very suspenseful at times. Although the main character is a woman, this novel is enjoyable for both men and women because the MC has to masquerade as a man to save her life (can't spoil).

Just saying, read it, regardless of whether your a man or women. Worth it.

I honestly really like this novel, sure it's got plot holes to sink a ship, but it is fun as long as you don't take it too seriously.

The characters are genuine and have clear personalities and roles allowing you to be able to spot more or less who is talking and what they are likely to do next and have goals independent of each other, which is rather hard to find at times. (If you know any other novels that match that, please, please recommend away) and it's always fun... more>> to find good cross dressers who don't go around saying "Oh deary, my poor fate has lead me to be forced to dress as if I were a boy! How ever will I be able to succeed?" while getting teary eyed and acting cute. It's an insult to the characters' and the readers' intelligence when that kind doesn't get caught at the metaphorical, or literal, gates.

But I digress. The author clearly never planned this novel to last this long and I feel several times during the novel that they placed "way points" in the story that she could wrap it up should they have to stop, but it keeps going, which I'm both happy for, since I get to see more of Lanfeng who is very fun to read about, and annoyed with as many things start to make less sense in the world as they keep writing into a corner, which might be the cause of the hiatus. They didn't keep track of a lot of details in previous chapters, but you might never notice if you just read through at a slower pace and don't have a good memory for such things.

All in all, read for the adorable characters, don't have high hopes for the plot, and just note that in the end, what the MC fights for is the strength to one-sidedly squish her teammates so they don't get squished by others. <<less

I have really conflicting thoughts towards this. It started of pretty good and ended up going down. I read more than a 1000 chapters and I feel disappointed and cheated.

the story has many problems with it. Yes' it has its own good points like how the battle scenes are well written and the humor is also really good and the characters are very interesting but I will speak about things I didn't like.

    • First of all the huge amount of spoilers in between the content like half the novel is spoiled even before you reach anywhere, and it takes away the suspense and thrill from the novel.
    • The author didn't seem to have done the necessary research needed, like for the mecha where I really think the author just wants to show how powerful the MC is and had deliberately included the whole hand speed part because let's be real if the world is so advanced they would have AI for things like that so that it would help reduce such burden. Its a story but it gives me headache.
    • Spoiler

Another thing which I didn't like is how slow this novel is the progress is really slow it takes so long before the MC even meets the ML and even after meeting it doesn't do much since till where I have read the MC doesn't reveal that she is a girl so the ML is still wallowing his unrequited feelings for his boss and being sad over the fact that how the MC is a straight man and all. I personally like slow romance but boy did they take that to a whole different level

      [collapse]
    • Some scenes take too long to complete although they didn't necessarily need all those details to the point where you could skip some lines and miss absolutely nothing and in my opinion, it's kind of annoying. Ok I was exaggerated a bit but you get the idea.
    • Spoiler

Also, though I don't particularly mind but as a non chinese reader I felt kinda weird when the author makes China more dominant and makes the other places look bad, but this is a story so I wont look too much into that

      [collapse]
There is also the whole gender thing because other than MC all the other female characters seem really weak probably to make the MC look special but again its a story...

This story had many of my favorite tags but I feel like saying I like slightly spicy food and being fed a plate of chilly. too much.

I would say I gave this novel a fair chance but this keeps going on so I am not sure if I would continue this.

This story is interesting... but there are a few noticeable things that drag it down a bit.

1. The author keeps writing things like "Because she is a girl, she is afraid of the dark." Which is just completely nonsensical to me.

2. The author sometimes takes way too long to advance the story in a chapter. One short moment can be described for half a chapter due to the excessive explaining and inner dialogue of multiple characters. A lot of the information the author writes out has very little bearing... more>> on the actual story or outcome of a scenario. It makes it very tedious to read. Especially when it is from the perspective of characters you barely know or care about.

3. It is clear that the author really wants to be one of the boys. Every other female character is weak, or can't match up. Just MC that is able to become super overpowered.

It is pretty much a weird "one of the boys" power fantasy. This would probably work better if the author wasn't sexist and could actually write women to be on equal level to men.

I am rather new to reading Chinese novels (this is my second novel, first was Doomsday Wonderland), but I am tired of the casual sexism. Not as much as the woman can't become mecha operators (which I think is dumb, and just reinforces my thoughts on this being a one of the boys power fantasy of the author, but doesn't really bother me), but more like girls think like this and act like this. I am a woman and I just can not relate to the MC when she thinks like that.

However, despite these issues, the story is well thought out (For the most part) and interesting enough to hold my attention. The combat system is interesting, and I find the instructors to be interesting characters. (More so than her underlings.)

Which is why I rate it 2 stars. Because it wasn't completely horrible. <<less

Imho too much nationalism in this novel.

At the beginning we learn how place where main character lives is bad for her. System allowing to maintain an idea that "who is stronger is also better", women are not. And SHE "struggles" to live freely. But every her actions literally negates it. She doesn't see anything wrong in the system. Also other shown fraction is purely evil. Empire, too much similar to Japan.

I haven't seen character with so much hypocrisy yet.

Side characters are quite plain. Bases are... more>> ok, but haven't got enough development, instead of paragraphs with description.

Jumps in time and power levels also are hard to follow. MC is pretty OP, not groundlessly, but makes story unsatisfactory, because MC doesn't seem to have any real problems. <<less

I'm really glad to see that the novel will be continued.

I was so sad when I saw my favorite novel'd be dropped.

Thanks Author-sama for letting us continue to see this beautiful world you created.

There are many points I like about this novel.

    • MC : Everyone knows that's the most important one about a novel. When readers don't really like/relate to/understand the novel's main protagonist, that novel'd be doomed. But our MC Ling Lan, I really like her.
      Spoiler

Her inner personality is like most ordinary people. She has the most simple purpose to live yet she has to be born in a strength-based society. So she has many hardships to keep living. Some people said our MC has many cheats. Well, I will agree if they say them advantages. MC of a novel has to have advantages. If not there'd be no MC!!There are no cheats because our MC has to give many sweat and blood to get them. It's nothing like "MC walks around and gets super duper cool beasts or gets a special ability popped out of no where."

      [collapse]
    • World-building : This is the one that dragged me to the mecha world and sci-fic world. In the past, I didn't even watch any mecha/sci-fic anime/movie. It's so dizzy for me to keep my eyes on them. Mecha used to be not my cup to tea. But I got to see from the mc's perspective so this is the best starter to sci-fic for someone like me. We got to imagine what the future world'll be like. And there's no 'cat fights in the courtyard' in this novels. There are no just verbal fights and no annoying female villains that only know how to get jealous. There'll be about military, politics and underground organizations.
      Spoiler

It's really satisfying about mc's gender identity not getting exposed when the time is not ripe. It's really not cool when some gender bender novels expose mc's identity early. But now it'll be really cool when MC gets absolute power and saying "I'm a female 'King' and I built my own empire so what can you do about that" ha ha cool!!!!

      [collapse]
    • Supporting characters : I appreciate this novel's characters. Every single one has their own purpose, motives, ambitions and fit well in their own position.
    • ML : Well, last but not least. This is the most suitable character for our cool and cold boss MC. Yes, our MC is
      Spoiler

proactive, decisive and warm-hearted (inner) but she has no experience to know about romantic feelings so there should a bold partner like our ML. MC personality looks so alpha that she needs a parter that looks soft yet mentally on par with our MC. The novel would be boring when two alpha male and female are in love with each other. So MC and ML really compliment with each other. It's really amusing when our ML try to charm our MC. So don't hate our ML. Love him too

      [collapse]
      .
*Translation is excellent*

I'll always support and love this novel so author-sama pls don't drop it pls.

Sry for my english cuz it's not my mother language.

Please read the entire story before judging the lack of details or slow-pace.

The plot holes will get covered as we go and the world building is gradual but steady.

One reviewer said the scenes get dragged out too long but the point of an immersive story is being able to imagine the scene with details. The author shows battle scenes vs telling them in a few sentences.

The story lacks a clearly stated purpose but do you live life with knowing exactly what you're going to do, other than knowing what's important?... more>> I think it's actually more impressive of certain MCs to be able to decide their life purpose and stick to it all the way through, no hesitation. This novel is the type where the MC slowly discovers what she wants to do and that is to protect her precious friends and family from the Federation. (Spoiler? Though I think this isn't a plot twist or big surprise so revealing it probably won't detract from reading the actual content, cause show vs tell).

The Twilight Empire thing I admit was f*cking ridiculous, but does one mistake or two ruin the entire web the author has woven? Though probably only I'd think it's no big deal because I'm used to seeing my dad watching the war dramas with the same exact thing. Evil Japanese dogs cursing "Baka" or whatever, only some portion of the older generation watch it. It can't be helped though? Just like how America still feel animosity to Russia politically from the wars, casualties, and trauma they suffered. Though Chinese hate Japanese politically, I doubt it's a problem if a Japanese civilian were to personally come to China and made friends.

Also, the Federation is not flawless, and this will be revealed later on. Heck, even the author admits there are bad apples collaborating with the enemy. Chinese people from the older generation were raised with the ideology that loyalty to one's country is first and foremost thus these people are bad and must be defeated. Perhaps because I'm a Chinese American who heard all sorts of things from her grandpa-level father that I'm able to understand the author's line of thinking so easily. Not that I like this sort of Nationalism either.

No one can say they're completely scot-free from their share of biases and stereotypes right?

People who thought the science was unrealistic, I agree. But did you come to study physics to pave way for the advancement of humanity or enjoy a light novel? Though I suppose for the serious readers who major in science, the lack of realism is a glaring detail. If the author is able to accurately portray what the future in 10000 years would be like, she might as well be a prophet or an innovator.

Just my two cents.

In short, most of the said plot holes will be covered up as the story goes, even the learning space and Little Four. But I guess people don't have the time or motivation to read that far, haha! Whether one loves it or not depends on their patience and affinity with the story. <<less

very nice. Think futuristic mulan. Except less romantic, more action, and OP FL. The family ancestors are her instructors, little four is mushu and cricket, and her buddy solders are those she raised up.

only thing stopping it from being a 5 is the fact that after a set amount the site the book is hosted on needs RL money to progress.

I quite like the storyline, there is no romance although it is tagged as such I suspect that is just cause Qidian tags all female protagonist novels as 'romance' which >..> *sighs*

The story is quite slow-paced but it does update daily so it's a pretty good fic to pick up.

It's a bit boring how she is always the strongest so I took a star away from that as I think Ling Lan doesn't struggle enough.

interesting enough that I'll come back a read new chapters on occasion, but not so interesting that I have to MT it to get the rest of the story.

i have a problem with the MC's initial main motivation for getting stronger and I admit that my impression from that decision made my respect for her plummet.

Spoiler

she decides she has to get strong in order to subdue and r*pe a strong man with good genetics for her future outstanding child. The way of thinking is wrong on so many levels and I don't know which horrified me more; her casual talk of raping others or the unhealthy belief that bearing a child is every woman's ultimate purpose and goal.

The novel is absolutely awesome. Very detailed and in a good way. This is the best gender bender story with strong, cool, cunning, ruthless and just badass female protagonist in a futuristic and military setting. The story delivery is somewhat comedic, which I enjoyed very much.

The countless feats that our gutsy MC accomplishes from her school days and as she grows up are ever unique but always legendary and showcases strong and genuine brotherhood. The gender bender is so strong that sometimes you forget our cool and princely MC is actually not a guy. Her character is so well developed and is more complicated than any characters in any web-novels I've read so far.

Even though the MC seems overpowered, the enemies encountered are equally or even stronger. Its also pleasantly different from other novels in that the female lead is more powerful than the male lead. The ML has flaws but that makes him more likable although at times it could be a little much but never too alarming so he's good. How our blackbellied ML is naively drawn to our crossdressing MC is actually at times quite funny. But the romance is verrrrrrryyyyy slowpased that its basically non-existent.

The story so far in fine. The tempo is fine, it's not just action but also a bit of slice of life while building up the world for the reader. It's nice to discover the world with the MC.

I can see the issue brought up by ppl with the lack of "show, don't tell". Like, instead of actually writing out a quick witted dialogue between the MC and Little Four, the author writes "she tricked him with a Quick witted response". It's a bit shallow bit I guess I'm used... more>> to it.

Now, what really bugs me however, is the insertion of information that's irrelevant for the situation happening.

As an example: The MC is hiding during a fight and the author brings up info about why she's doing what she does, continues to explain where she lerned the tactic and why, although we've not read about her learning it previously. Then they bring up a measurement equipment the federation has to measure the power used in MCs tactic and why the federation use said equipment. TF!!

Why bring up this during the fight? It makes the flow stagnate and I really can't get immersed in the fight. I get that the hover cars suddenly have plasma guns with tracking thank to Little Foure, I don't need to know, in detail, how and why he did it >while< the fight is still happening. The fight should be intense, there should not be time to explain to much until after, if you manage to survive.

This makes me drop a star because it happens several times. The world building gets priority in the wrong situations.

That's all I got so fas since I've just read up to 53. <<less
