I do not understand why there are several people talking about who is a LMS worse, the MC is less intelligent or has a teenage mentality at puberty.

I do not know if you read what the translator of this novel described in wuxiaworld, he clearly says that the MC at the beginning is kind of hateful, but with the future it develops and the main plots of this novel is a development of MC, so do not call much to the comments below, just wait and see if it improves... more>> with time, I do not see the need to judge this novel for 14 chapters currently released. <<less

The first part of the novel is average at most and below average at worst, but the author gets insanely better the more you read. As a bonus, the protagonist becomes smarter and a better person too. The characters are pretty well written, and both the protagonists and antagonists are likeable. The only characters I dislike are the Tzedakah Guild, most of the characters feel pretty flat, and Jishuka becomes an idiot when she meets Grid. I love the jokes in this novel, for example when Dark Bus ... more>>

literally gave a bus to Grid by giving him hidden quests, experience, items and bringing the quest objective to him

. Don't be deterred by the people saying that the first chapters suck, personally I think they are average compared to other novels. If you can finish those, the novel really gets way more interesting than I ever expected. <<less

Here to answer One Simple Question: Is it Shit?

Absolutely NOT!

It's really fun I could not find any major flaws, I don't find the main character to be "greedy" at all in fact
I find it AMUSING that he gives out things for free.

... more>> I have been once one of the top players in a game and you would never give out anything without compensation unless you hunted with someone EVERY SINGLE DAY, only then perhaps you'd compromise a little.

Obviously the novel isn't meant to be taken too too seriously as the MC isn't really a top player striving to be the best, instead he just get's an OP class which is fine, funny to read.
This is important to keep in mind While reading, because it completely changes how you view how he carries himself.

We need more novels like this.

+1 for Faker sempai, now it neads Flash or Jaedeong or at LEAST NesTea <<less

Shity...

Simply because of the novel's Main Character. His full of bad characteristic that it was no wonder he was often called as an human filth. His characteristic and creation was so bad that it was hard to concentrate on the plot and story

His a selfish jerk, money grubber, And compulsive liar. He only cares about himself and his family is even barely a second priority. His words are often flowery but his mind was full of shit. So I barely sympathize about his situation and honestly thought that the mob... more>> character's impression of him is spot on.

I also hate how he was being compared with Weed (LMS mc). When weed is a couple of times better MC than this sh*t grid.

Comparisons:

•Weed was drown in debt cause he needs money for his family.

Grid was drown in debt Cause he bought a game system for himself.

•Weed was being greedy, selfish and don't trust anybody cause he was Desperate and on guard cause of his rl experience.

Grid was being a jerk, liar and untrustworthy cause its his second nature

•Weed despite being somewhat unsociable help people in need in his own little ways

Grid being himself won't help anyone and will often find Various reasons to reject unless he no longer has a choice.

•Weeds greediness comes from his trauma of helpessness in his youth

Grids greedinees comes from his soul and he was a grade schooler in a 26 years olds body.

•Weed is cool, sociable (though most of the times for his own advantage) and hardworking

Grid is hypocrite, socially awkward and greed induced hardworking

•Weed despite being himself was liked by many

Grid being himself was plot magnet equipped and everyone was drawn into him

•Weed is greedy but he has his owm bottom line

Grid is greedy and does everything and lie his way to earn money <<less

Don't wait for it to get better, It's only marginal at best. I'm fine with arrogant MCs, but this guy is just Dense. It's like he doesn't remember being poor.

Spoiler

charging 1b for equipment a guild member needs to complete a SS quest. He literally blocks the guy from advancing by his greed. And this is after he's already paid off his and his family's debt, so he's just a miser for no reason.

I really liked this novel. It has been a very enjoyable ride so far, from a GREAT development of an unlikeable MC to a very likeable MC. An interesting game world that has alot of awesome plots and more to discover still. The world building is really good.

it has alot of dissatisfied moments especially from the beginning, but it has more satisfied moments to counter the dissatisfied ones that gets you to forget about the bad ones. Overgeared is about an emotionally crippled man who gains both friends and self-worth through his existence in a game. You rarely find a point where you are bored and want to skim over. I'd highly recommend it to people who are looking for a novel that isn't tr*shy.

This is one very annoying novel, I started reading this with an expectation that it will get better in the late ch90's to early ch100's but all I can say is you will get disappointed as it is still bad like in the beginning. My early impressions of the first 135 chapters were "Like what am I reading, why should I suffer like this?, If I was like the MC I would get a Patience or Endurance Stats for reading each chapter"

Now if your a trooper and still trudge... more>> through another hellish 30 chapters and finally arrive where the MC finally have the IQ and thinking ability of a normal/average person that's where the story truly picks up. Here there will be a very obvious character growth for the MC and finally the Naive/Arrogant/Selfish/Greedy protagonist will slightly get better
Spoiler

MC will really start to truly be like a protagonist after the National Competition

[collapse]

This is really hard to comment on since the quality of the story started really bad so for me I'd rate it like this to make it easier to see (w/ min-max during each part) :

1-140 (2.0~2.5/5.0)

141-315 (3.0~4.0/5.0)

316-330 (1.5~3.5/5.0)

331-346 (3.0/5.0)

There are a lot of side characters yet they don't really stand out much, and like every other novels you shouldn't really get attached to early characters since after awhile they will slowly lose their personality. Take for example the the MC's first Guild Leader Jishuka (IIRC) she at least started with a strong personality with commanding ability yet she just turned into one of the MC's harem-in-waiting, Regas the taekwondo fanatic, strong, simple-minded with a sense of justice yet he just turned into a good damage dealer, talking? Nah he just turned into a part of the yes-crowd, All Hail God Grid!!, although MC interacts with other characters but it still feels lacking as pretty much a solo player..

If you got time to read this I'd rather suggest LMS, from time to time OG reminds me of LMS with the former being an inferior version of the latter.

I'd probably drop this while I still think the story is good rather than keep reading only to find out that it gets worse..

Spoiler

Damn you MC, what's so good about being a sword saint!? Being a legendary farmer is much better!! MC is so s*upid why not look in a mirror your just a blacksmith if you like sword saint so much change your class to a warrior, , sometimes the author really likes making the MC so annoying (ch316 the point where a smart MC out of nowhere suddenly turned into an idiot! Also the story starts to degrade starting this chapter), MC also starts to underestimate an NPC just because MC is so s*upid not to check his stats, yet the author shows that the NPC was feeling sorry because of the mistake of the MC, trying for a funny misunderstanding? More like annoyingly s*upid

Great novel though in the start the MC is too cringy where I practically read the novel as if he was the villian. His character development is great as in all Korean novels though I got no idea why they start the MC as shit. Superb World background in Game. Overall a great read.

Giving this novel 5 stars.

Firstly, it's because there are neither drama nor tragedy in real life - no one dies and there no killing - resulting in no psychological pain. But it's another thing in-game where the MC is ruthless against his opponents (a.k.a psychopath butcher) xD.

Secondly, it has the slice of life atmosphere. MC lives a normal life, he might have been a good for nothing son who was indebted in the beginning but past the chapters 90+, MC matures.

Spoiler

MC loses his v**ginity in-game

I began reading this novel because of the genre and some recommendations.

I like the fact that :

- the MC is a blacksmith but that not too much time is spent on the blacksmithing process. - the MC's sister seems like a brocon (this part is not emphasised)

... more>> - the MC is becoming OP but not in one go (slow process)

The 1~90 are only so-so with the MC too greed oriented and not lucky at all but after this phase, we can observe a huge character grow, that makes you really want to read the next chapter.

I recommend this novel. <<less

Perfecly describe how society work IRL. What might happen to those who left behind. The social anxiety. The feeling of jealousy. The hope of MC to get better in life. Not that I like how the MC is doing, but it is what it is. It happen in our society.

This novel is the type that the more chapter you read the more you'll realize the important of the seemingly unimportant the early chapter. It might be boring, hateful, etc. But it is needed as it make a solid foundation. So... more>> I really recommend to read it until you can view what type of scenery the author is trying to tell us. Don't just stop at the foundation of it. You know, there's "character growth" and "weak to strong" in tags section for a you to not judge it as early as it came out (like for the first 10 chapter) , right?

Ps. I still think MC is s*upid. But funny because he (indirectly) outsmart the smart people.

PSS. Some people might say 'they say its good the more I read but it's still bad'. Well. You're not read it enough bro. Or you just didn't get it. Add more stat to int. ;) <<less

this couple with the sperg moments of the POV randomly switching and the 'interesting' commentary of the reporters and other ret*rd make this novel impossible to read. IMO only if you're a hardcore stockholm syndrome person could you enjoy this piece of shit.

Everything is played for laughs, it's like a never ending shitcan disney superhero movie

Very fun novel, started reading because of the manhwa and I am not disappointed. Don't be disparaged by the negative reviews and check it out, most are just mad that MC is not a perfect human being and actually has to develop as a person.
Spoiler

He starts learning how to be a better person after creating a guild.

The characters and world building in this novel are the best I've read of all KR novels, and it makes me wish I could play the game lol.

If you are an MMO player this is a must read, it reminded me of many good times I had with my guild in Ragnarok online.

My only issue so far is MC having that dense japanese MC syndrome, well at least he has a great waifu. Also has some cringe nationalism during the Olympics arcs, but it's honestly cute compared to chinese novels so it didn't bother me much.

I seriously wanted to enjoy this novel. If you like this kind of book then read 'Rebirth of the Thief Who Roamed the World'.

I really really wanted to enjoy it. And I wanted to wait out the book so that the book could start going and get good. But this, I can't take it anymore. Grid is s*upid to the point I can't handle it. He's all about money at first and even later he still likes money. Not just money but since he turned over to a new start... more>> he thinks he's the best at everything and can't accept his faults. He's too s*upid to understand the advice he is given. Like why is he the main character anyways, if he can't understand shit. It's like when you finally feel like he's matured even a little bit, he does something s*upid. He has a legendary class but can't properly use the sword. When he was getting advice from a strong NPC he was too s*upid to understand! That was my last straw honeslty. I can't read this book where everything about this guy is s*upid and petty, but can still get everything and not only everything, but is the strongest and can't die. He's 'unlucky', but still can make legendary items, have a powerful pet, beautiful women, and a legendary class. How can this be called unlucky!! Also these aren't even all the good things he has. If he really was a real person I'd smack him till he finally gained something out of it. Because even if he returned to his senses he'd be even more s*upid.

Like I said I honestly really wanted to wait this book out longer to see if it would get better, but even if it does how much better can it be. I don't care about nationality superiority and stuff when the book is good. But this book honestly isn't good.

If you don't like the first 50ish chapters I recommend you to stop reading before you waste your time. <<less

This may be one of the greatest webnovels that I've ever had the pleasure of reading. Been here since the beginning and it's awesome how much Grid has grown as a character and how the universe continuously expands. Very few webnovels give me goosebumps and Overgeared gives me TREMORS every time Grid accomplishes something. The author has managed to make multiple likable and memorable characters, while also tying in the story very well. This is a top 2 novel for me, and it isn't number 2. If you can't get... more>> through the first few chapters, then you're missing out on a masterpiece. <<less

the story is so good that the MC's personality only stabilized at this point, the world building has its foundation largely finished with missing pieces here and there, just enough so that there could be something introduced in the future to cover some plot holes but not that much that you can't understand the existing side of the world, and their stances. BUT the story could only be far from finished there are too many little details that could still influence how the story could progress.

This is a generic Korean novel, it's all there is to it. It's fine.

There are a lot of s*upid and unlogical things in it to make MC stronger, abilities that shouldn't exist, in short- it's full of plot armor and plot holes. However, every KN is like that and most of you like it or can look past it so should I.

There are few major problems through these 300 chapters that I found:

    • Pacing of the story is horrendous and time passages are so hard to follow because it feels like it's aimed for 13-year-olds and there are only experience gains and new developments. There are no chapters that are small arks to let it all sink in. Instead, it feels like every 25 chapters I repeat the same loop, especially a bit later in the novel.
    • Whoever wrote this doesn't understand that something can't be everything. This novel tries that with our MC. To do this he employs technique tell instead just show, our all-knowing "neutral" observer is not neutral at all and constantly tells us why and how we should interpret MC actions. MC is a total scum (douchebag who doesn't care if he is on evil or good side, bcs it's a game) at the beginning yet he is somehow always on just side (bcs he needs to be good if his MC) and the author writes excuses and reasonings why he is on good side. There are countless examples when he tries to be everything like: s*upid- but smartest when he needed, talentless -but manages to perfectly learn in short time, unlucky- but luckiest bastard alive. The worst part about it is if you say opposing things inside a chapter so often they both just cancel each other and only weaken the scene overall.
    • Characterization is a big problem, everybody except MC (but he has his share of problems too) develops throughout the novel suddenly without logic and reasoning. There is never a focus on those developments but we are expected to appreciate it. Characters suddenly care for MC or fall in love with him without any reason. There are characters that act as stepping stones from the beginning, in short, typical KN.

A 5 stars for me.

I must say, this novel is a hidden gem, buried by ton sh*t of bad reviews. It's actually a very well written and progressive novel. Even though I don't like harem stories, this doesn't disgust me at all.

I feel sad for the future readers who will be convinced by some self righteous 'I'm warning you this novel is bad blah blah blah'.

Yes, the start the MC is very very very unlikable, the word 'very' three times to emphasize his disgusting nature. But overtime you can see... more>> the gradual change of his ugly nature because of influences from other characters, special mention to Khan and Braham.

This is my first time giving a review even though I've read hundreds of novels here in NU, I just want to give this wonderful novel a little help in encouraging some readers to read a hundred chapters or so before giving your reviews.

Don't blindly cast a vote, because its like saying to a person "I don't like you because they say you are bad" without knowing that person at all.

As of chapter 1175 I can say that the MC is a changed person, he has learnt the meaning of the word "camaraderie" in which helps in building into what character he has now. Looking at some of his thoughts I can see that he has more character development coming.

Hope some readers give this a chance. ?? <<less

I love this novel. I've read the other reviews and I believe that a lot of them are a bit askew in their assessments. First, it is important to note that the main character is extremely toxic early on due to experiences such as bullying in high school, debt, and overall lack of self confidence. If you are incapable of looking past his toxic habits then this is not the novel for you. I think it's worth mentioning that his character is designed to be inherently greedy and with that... more>> comes behaviors that can be seen as abrasive. This story can best be described as a journey. While I can tell you moments that mark important transitions I can't tell you a specific moment where he becomes respectable enough although that's primarily due to an individual's perspective rather than story writing.
Spoiler

The toxicity begins to end at Chapter 108 where he resolved the mental traumas that plagued him.

[collapse]

It is true that for a very long time the protagonist, Shin Youngwoo, had failed to accurately or effectively play his character. It is true that he failed to effectively play his class and this was due to lack of knowledge. Generally, most of his short comings came from lack of knowledge. From a gameplay perspective anyone who has spent the amount of time that Youngwoo had played up to that point would be frustrated with how little knowledge relating to game mechanics that he retained. Additionally, it is true that the protagonist himself is kind of dull. He fails to realize what feelings certain people portray to him, which I accredit to trauma with his first love, and also failing to consider certain possibilities which seem relatively obvious which I can only say is most likely plot armors or contorting the story for dramatic effect. There is a certain level of comedy that roots from the fact that there is a vast amount of circumstances that arise beneficially due to misunderstandings.
Spoiler

Such as an ability rooting from a title that will spare a enemy on chance which makes the monsters believe he means to spare them. Or the fact that the title itself came from the understanding he was a virtuous person when in reality he wasn't quite a virtuous person.

[collapse]
As the novel advanced as does his character and so does his personality. I think it's worth noting as I previously mentioned that the character Shin Youngwoo and his online persona "Grid" were designed to be greedy. This means that they will exhibit behaviors that are greedy and due to this, can be perceived as abrasive. Furthermore, I think that once the story's direction drives away from excessive greed, the author is capable of continuing this feature/flaw (whatever you perceive it to be) through the form of business.

Open the spoiler for an elaboration.
Spoiler

It's hard to communicate what I mean when I say that but I will try my best. For the initial portion of the novel, readers are met with the typical greed troupe in which the protagonist cannot go a chapter without mentioning how a certain action, item, etc will bring them profit (generally in the form of ingame currency to real life currency conversions.) However this only lasts so long. The only way to write a character in a way where their greed doesn't become annoying is to move away from that obsession with making more money. Then comes the focus on business or rather an emphasis on ensuring that they get what's theirs while also recognizing what other people deserve. This is probably the biggest difference between the initial character's mentality vs the developed. The developed is capable of recognizing his guildmate's contributions and rewarding them vs the initial's immediate interjection and emphasis on getting what's his and often trying to undercut others through loopholes.

[collapse]
I will say that I personally disliked the lack of common sense and inability to notice signals from those of the opposite s*x, as well as a lack of game sense that is so far lacking that it made me wonder how he got as far as he did. However, I stuck through with the understanding that he got better and sure enough, he did. I believe that the novel is worth the read. The cornerstone of this novel is growth and I assure and hope that most will read this so that they can see and enjoy the growth. <<less
