TL;DR just read https://www. Novelupdates. Com/series/i-alone-level-up/ because it is similar in many aspects, but with a better setting and ending, IMO.

Well, I gave this 2 stars instead of 1 because I was able to finish it, but if this novel were any longer, I would have had to stop. The novel starts off fine and is a decent read for awhile. You can tell this by looking at all the good reviews from people who have only read half of it. However, the setting is flimsy and falls apart the... more>> more you read. I allude to some spoilers after this paragraph, but I won't spoil anything directly.

To put it succinctly: It's as though the author watched the Matrix trilogy and thought that the story got better as the movies went on. It's probably not as big of a let down as the show Lost was for people who were into that, but it's got to be close. The author just throws a bunch of sh*t together at the end and there's no explanation given for a lot of key points of the setting.

The story starts of as an isekai and then the author throws in other random stuff like dimensional travel and VR, but doesn't do an adequate job connecting everything. The fantasy elements all feel fine until you approach the end of the story and it makes you wonder why there were even there in the first place.

I'll end on a positive note by saying that the translator did a good job. There are some minor mistakes, but it was well done overall as I was able to easily comprehend just how shitty this web novel turned out to be. <<less

this novel makes me so sad it started off so well. The book wasn't the best but it was so entertaining and interesting. I loved the insane protagonist and the crazy situations he ends up in. But the author suddenly starts adding crazy sci-fi bullsh*t

Its a great novel. I liked how the author characterized his MC and I fell in love with the supporting characters. Its a bit of a bummer but some were skipped and it felt like it was being rushed in the 2/3s of the novel but all in all I liked the beginning the middle the twist on the end. I want an extension of the Epilogue but I'm satisfied with the ending. Also I missed some of the characters, I wish the author gave some bit of screen time... more>> for them. <<less

The MC was so OP and no side character felt very interesting. Final chapters were painful to read, yet struggled to reach a somewhat satisfactory closure.

Tbh, I don't really like this novel, dunno why people likes it. Firstly, the MC acts like a villain too much. Secondly, he doesn't complete what he planned to do, he just go along the flow. Thirdly, he is very s*upid considering the fact that he is an MC of a novel. He never thinks before he act, he does things in a roundabout way, he does things extremely inefficient. Fourthly, I hate the way they state the money, sometimes it is stated in won, sometimes in dollars and sometimes... more>> in native Korean style. This is extremely confusing. And the last one is that the author likes to drag things, events and fights for a long time making a lot of aimless paragraphs. Also, the way the government does things in the novel makes Korea look too bad, everyone will look down on Korea like this. It just make people think that Korea government are all selfish, bastards, greedy, always squeeze out taxes from civilians in anyway possible, remove their holidays and make people work like s*aves. <<less

This starts out ok.

But then the author ruins it.

Spoiler

Tries to turn it into some sort of matrix thing. Also, the MC ends up kind of turning rather evil in my opinion and everything gets very silly.

If you like Isekai stories than you'll probably like this one. It's got a bit of a twist to to keep the idea fresh, though not overly fresh. The writing is competent and the battle scenes are entertaining. My real problem with this story is the character relationships. Like, the characters themselves are pretty good, but the way they interact with the protagonist seems a little off. Specifically his family.

Spoiler

Like, the novel makes a big deal about how much his family means to him and goes out of its way to set up a romantic interest, but then he just never talks to them. And they're totally ok with this. I mean, the author tells us they're super important and mean the world to him, but w never actually see it. With the possible exception of closer towards the end in regards to his sister but even then it's a weak connection at best.

And then there's the romantic subplot that was totally wasted. It goes on for chapter after chapter about how this hot girl has been disfigured, and how it's a huge deal that the protagonist can just fix her. And then she's like the hottest girl on the planet. And then he has like two dates with her, not all at once, spread out over a few months. By the end of the story, I felt he had a better romantic relationship with the Holy Maiden than the one the plot tells us is his real girlfriend.

[collapse]

I dunno, the story over all is ok, but it's not the greatest. It's a good time waster, if you need something to read for a few days, but otherwise, meh. <<less

This would have been an 4/5 novel; it has decent writing, a compelling plot (for the most part), good main character and well written side characters, and a good setting.

The problem is that the ending is so bad, so horrible it's left me feeling disgust towards the author, editor, publisher, and anyone else who had a hand in this. If you absolutely must read this stop around ch180 when he fights Lello and imagine an ending you like. The published ending is just hot garbage.

A really great novel.

The first 100 or so chapters are somewhat ver similar in feel and structure (although different) to Solo leveling. Then the story introduces another element that mixes things up and by the end there is another element. I really liked the creativity and feel of this novel, and all in all enjoyed it fully + the ending was satisfactory for me and well worth.

I'd highly recommend it.

Despite its flaw of plot hole, mess etc this novel give me a good ride. First thing you guys should aware there's "Overpowered Protagonist" inside the tag so dont complain about it, sigh. Dont read if you dont like op MC. Instead lets see how the story going on.

Story is about ruthless MC who summon back from other planet after 20 years yet there's 5 years passing on earth. He lost his power so he is need to grind all over again. Well he is overpowered after all kek. Early... more>> chapter is usual leveling arc, middle arc would be like invade arc yet last arc would be revealed arc I guess. MC is "something" so mystery about what and why he can be op would revealed later. MC act arrogant but its okay, he still desperate want to protect his family from start to end.

Character development kinda there, mostly have their own attitude. There's no romance and mostly relationship dev kinda lacking well thats given since the focus on how MC gonna save the earth. World building honestly I felt vague about it especially other side place but for earth building I dont think we need clear description about it.

Overall I could give 4.5/5 since some part of story still mess and toward end theres still unexplain things.. Well the fact im enjoying when im reading this is solid. <<less

Can an ending be so bad that it ruins the rest of an otherwise good story?

Overall, this reminded me a lot of 'A Monster Who Levels Up' (written a year after this one), with a lot of the same exact problems: a bunch of threads started that are never fully explored, and many internal inconsistencies.

So many inconsistencies...

Spoiler
  • Trahnet invades Earth after conquering Alphen after the Immortal leaves Alphen undefended to go back to Earth, but the invasion of Earth started at the same time the main character had been summoned to Alphen in the first place (timey-wimey...)
  • To summon a skeleton, he specifically needs an animal with bones, until later when it doesn't matter if they have bones or not. Both times it goes out of its way to make it clear that bones are DEFINITELY/DEFINITELY NOT required.
  • Everything with Trahnet is nonsense. It's made to keep humans alive during the trip to another planet, no it's made to keep humans alive on Earth while terraforming is taking place, no it's to make a way to travel to another planet without a ship, no it's actually made by aliens who are invading Earth (except it's invading VR-Earth??), no it's not VR since things can come out of it SOMEHOW...
  • Everything with the Dimension Lords, Domains, the real-time-strategy game, all of it is nonsense and inconsistent. The monsters can be bought with points, no wait they're real people, they're wanderers that have lost their home planet, but there's an infinite number of them available (even though there are finite planets). Speaking of...
  • The Thrones. Thrones with lower numbers are more powerful, no wait, your throne number equals the number of Thrones you've captures, so the higher numbers are more powerful, and somehow the Lords have all captured a different number of Thrones (what an amazing coincidence!), and Thrones are the same as Codes, but the gods who have the codes aren't the same as the Lords that have Thrones...?
  • Alphen is Mars after it has been terraformed, but Trahnet is a VR of the past, but there's spaceships on Alphen, but it's not terraformed in the non-VR future, but... None of the timelines can possibly match (timey-wimey...), and wouldn't he have noticed that the stars in the sky are basically the same as on Earth? And if you can terraform, can't you terraform the ruined Earth??

But overall I enjoyed it more that AMWLU... until it got near the end.

Everything, EVERYTHING fell apart (some of which you can see in the previous spoiler).

And the actual finale is supremely unsatisfying.

The early chapters are great and I was quickly hooked, but in the end this is just a mishmash of different concepts thrown together with no semblance of a plan, and it never pays off in a meaningful way.

Waste of time.

(But still three stars because the early chapters were so good, not that it's worth the time to read them since there's no good ending) <<less

One of the better novels I've read on this site. The story is consistent, complex, fast paced and without a ton of filler though it got messy in the last arc. I like the MC and his minions. He's very honest and strait forward in a "this is what I am and if you don't like it kiss off and die" way.
i can see why fans of romance might complain because the author doesn't do romance very well and honestly, this story didn't need it. The entire question... more>> is really open ended with it all left up to the readers interpretation.
i also agree the ending was rushed and poor in comparison with the rest of the series but it's obvious that some people didn't bother reading through to the end because
Spoiler

he does NOT lose his power when he wakes up. He pulls his big-*ss weapon of doom out and merges the two realities together. Please read to the actual end before getting all bu*t-hurt and complaining.

i agree with some of the others that some of the MCs behavior in the final arc isn't all that logical but I don't really understand the psudo-science involved so I could shrug it off. The last fight with the final bad was pretty disappointing. And since he made such a big deal over his family for the entire story (despite them showing up only rarely) it was a pretty low blow not to include them at all in the epilogue.
Spoiler

I'm also confused as what happened to him with his spirits and confused about whether or not he became the god in the end, or if he was still just the champion. I'm pretty sure I missed that particular paragraph or chapter somehow, along with how he came back

[collapse]
i wavered between rating this a four and a five because it does have it's flaws and a LOT of unanswered questions, but over all it's much better written than 80-90% of the other stuff available to read online so I went ahead and gave it the five. It really deserves a 4.5 at best.

on a side note: I wouldn't mind a prequel to this story; when he was a young soft high schooler just summoned to the other world and all. I'd love to read the story of how he became the Immortal in the first place. <<less

This was fun to read.

It didn't get boring at any point in time to me.

The MC does whatever he wants and doesn't care what anyone else thinks about him. He's truly what every man should wish to be.

... more>> I highly recommend this one to anyone looking for a good read. Fully translated so you don't have to wait for translations to catch up to you which is always good.

If I had to say anything bad about this... id have to say the ending felt a tad rushed. Still good from start to finish even if it was a tiny bit rushed at the end. I had put this one off for a long while before reading it and I now wish I had read it sooner. <<less

If you're looking for a bad ass character who is almost evil.... STAY. Kang is cold-blooded (he's killed millions). The pace is mostly great for the entire novel. There's no harem or anything like that. My only gripe is the ending. I feel that it needs a few more chapters to explain it better.

First, The Protagonist's personality.

Unpredictable (Not in a bad or good way, just weird.), he changes from a nice friendly guy to sometimes an unbelievably ruthless (A**h**e) man to a mindless idiot.

Overall, I will let it pass as human sometimes changes due to some special situation.

... more>> Next, The Plot.

In the beginning, the plot of this novel is pretty simple, find his family and defend his world (his family first), basically a generic plot (Not to judge it or anything, a generic plot isn't always bad.), but thing got worse quickly;
Spoiler

The entire universe and everything in the end (Except for the Moon World) is just a simulation that somehow the "future" human creates and the things inside can "magically" come out to the real world.

[collapse]

Oh btw, the subplot is horrible.

Spoiler

Firstly, the main plot is to go to save the foreign planet, so the MC and human go all the way to this planet, then out of nowhere, f***ing Japanese (Really? As expected from a KR author.) evil overlord want some oil from the planet which btw is useless because the dungeons have something much better.

[collapse]

Next, World Building.

Just so-so, not good, not bad (if we ignore the wrong information of course.)

And the ending.

As always, a rushed one, with no hint about the sudden (kinda) appearance of the love interest. (Yeah, no romance for this novel.)

Well, I recommended this for those who don't have anything to read and didn't mind the bad subplot. (The subplot is really bad, so beware.) <<less

Like it or hate it.

Either way this novel raises interest on it's readers. This might not suit everyone's tastes but I don't find anything wrong in the story. For me this novel pushed all the right buttons, it was interesting with it's complex plot and well thought characters, it kept me binge reading it from start to finish.

My only complaint lay in epiloque, ending felt rushed and left lot to be desired. Ending tried to wrap up everything but in my opinion it didn't succeed well enough. I ques the... more>> greater the story, the harder it is to end it. <<less

This is a novel that gave me mixed feelings. I'll rate it 3.5/5, not 4/5 as my rating suggests, I just couldn't give a half rating. The start was shaky, I didn't quite like it, but then it quickly got better, but towards the end everything exploded and I was left with an extremely bad taste in my mouth. "Hey! Everything turned out to be some kind of VR thing with a super network, so it wasn't really the real world! Geez, you thought he truly had real abilities? Aww, too bad, tehepero" -.- So much for for a good ending. I would've preferred if everything just spontaneously exploded with no warning and the MC along with a select few was the only ones who were left alive. At least that way he'd still have his powers, everything would be properly real+substantial and he could proceed to turn around from the explosion and walk away calmly with his back facing the humongous fire ball left from the whole fking novel (world) while putting on some black sunglasses.

So, worth reading, no doubt about it, but skip the last arc. You're better off without it. <<less

I would have rated this 5/5 if the ending had not been so rushed. I felt the author also unnecessarily complicated the storyline in the latter half. Some of the explanations were very confusing and I still don’t entirely understand what happened exactly. I’ve still got a bombload of questions left. The epilogue left a lot to be desired and we never find out what happened to some of the characters.

Apart from all of that, the story was great. The MC was hilarious in his reactions and decision-making processes and... more>> the reactions of his friends/subordinates are priceless. The story has a good, solid foundation which unfortunately suffered under the author’s rushed ending.

But, awesome story, otherwise. <<less

Tldr: I enjoyed the book but felt that the last 10-20 chapters felt forced as if the author gave up on the series.

General synopsis: The MC transmigrates to another deminsion where he fights for survival eventually becoming that worlds greatest necromancer. He eventually is able to return to earth and while also tracking backwards in time. The earth is being attack by monsters and he must once again take up arms as a necromancer and also as a warrior to protect the Earth.

The Good:

- The story starts out with an... more>> interesting setting, protagonist, and story development.

- Story leaves you wanting to know what happens next and what you haven't seen yet of his powers he is slowly regaining.

- Leaves room for the MC to become even more OP.

The Bad:

- Plot hole after plot hole.

- Wasted potential. Several aspects of this book that could of been real interesting were just put on the way side such as the dominisional domains, achievement score, and even the leveling system.

- Little to no character development. All of the characters except for maybe 1 or 2 are the exact same as they are when the story starts.

- An ending that felt cut short. Honestly feel like the epilogue shouldn't be read for it leaving more questions than if none were addressed at all. <<less
