Shen Miao, the Di daughter of a military family, was pure, quiet, gentle, and gracious. Because of her foolish love for Prince Ding, she forced her way into becoming his wife.

After six years of assisting her husband, she finally became the mother of the world: The Empress.

She had stayed with him during the fight for dominion over the empire and during the efforts to expand its territory. She even went so far as to put herself in danger and be taken hostage by a neighboring empire. In spite of this, when she returned to the Imperial Palace five years later, she no longer had a place in the Imperial Harem.

That beautiful woman he kept in his embrace gave her a bright, stunning smile and told her, “Older Sister, the country has settled down. It is time for you to step back as well.”

Her daughter died tragically and her son the Crown Prince was deposed. No one in her Shen family, who had been completely loyal to the Emperor, were spared. With arrival of a new reign, everything was overturned!

Shen Miao never thought that all of the perils they encountered as husband and wife, all of the assistance they gave each other mutually, were nothing but a joke in his eyes!

He told her, “Because you have been with this Emperor for more than two decades, this Emperor will allow you to keep an intact corpse. You should be grateful for this kindness.”

Beneath a meter of white silk, Shen Miao established a malicious oath: Once the day of reckoning arrives, every single one of you will die!

Once reborn, she returns to the year when she was only fourteen years old, a time when tragedy has not yet befallen, when her family still lived, and when she was still the pure, quiet, gentle, and gracious Di daughter of a military family.

Close relatives conceal evil intentions, her cousins are vicious and merciless, the new concubine is like tiger watching its prey and that scum wants the previous life’s events to be repeated?

Her family must be protected, the great enmity must be avenged, and the prize must include the empire’s imperial throne. In this lifetime, let us see who comes out on top!

But that Xie Family’s young marquis, that tyrannical and arrogant spear-wielding young man on horseback, stays stubbornly on her side and proudly declares, “It is merely toppling the Imperial Family. Do not forget, the world belongs to you, and you—you belong to me!”

The Thirteen Capitals of You Zhou: This belongs to you.

The Ding Yuan City in the North Desert: This belongs to you.

The Southern River of Yu Zhou, the Eastern Sea of Ding Xi, the Green Lakes of Lin’an, the Ancient City of Luo Yang: All of these belong to you.

“Xie Jing Xing, if all of this belongs to me, then can you tell me what you want?”

“Alright, I want you.”

Honestly, I read this almost 3 years ago before writing this review because I found it again the other day and remembered how good it is. The best part about this novel is that the female lead is truly at times "malicious". It's so tiring to read novels where the FL has been scorned and abandoned but does not take the revenge she deserves. Compared to some other novels where the entire thing is just "face slapping" people in the past who had done her wrong, this one actually makes... more>> some sense. The ML and FL don't just immediately fall in love for no reason, there's actually reasoning behind her actions. Their relationship does go a little downhill near the end but it's honestly not bad.

It's pretty fluffy overall and the ending is satisfying enough. <<less

I understand how one can be frustrated by how the ML steals the limelight by being smarter than the MC because we want a badass and intelligent MC, for I, too, feel the same.

But we have to remember that MC only relying on past lives to be able to be that cunning, her advantage is she knowing future happenings, to some extent, and her being able to deal with prince ding and imperial family mainly relying on her understanding of them.

We also have to remember that her schemes arent the... more>> most clever either if all the characters are placed from the same starting point, if she's that clever/cunning she wont die horribly in her first life

But ML is different, with his vast resources ofc he will be more knowledgeable, when in battle the most crucial thing is information. MC get information from her past live, by which in currnt life ofc some things are changed, but ML has vast network of timely information. Aside from information, we have to take into account the subordinates, ML has many trained subordinates, while MC is a 14 y.o girl without real power, it'll be strange if the MC outwit the ML <<less

I created an account just to write a review for this novel because this is the first time I've seen a translator almost ruining the novel for me. (눈_눈)

I'm usually not that picky about small grammar or spelling errors or having lots of T/N's but the person who translated this novel did not do it justice. (¬、¬) The amount of grammar and spelling errors were not enough to make the novel incomprehensible, but just enough to get on your nerves. ノಠ_ಠノ

In the first few chapters, I... more>> saw someone ask in the comments if the grammar improves; NO! It's the opposite. The grammar actually isn't bad in the beginning but it steadily gets worse (until the point I have read to).

But the biggest gripe I have is the unprofessional-ness that the translator and editors have shown through the T/N's.

Usually T/N's are notes for the translator, about the TRANSLATION. They are not supposed to be personal commentary channels. I find it tolerable and sometimes even amiable if these types of comments are in moderation. But for this novel's translation, especially because of the critical and sarcastic nature of these comments, they just rubbed me the wrong way. (♯▼皿▼) To the translator (and editor), I would like to say:

'If you do not like the writing style of the author, you are entitled to your own opinion. However, as a translator, it is not your job to add your personal flavour to the book by way of commentary. It would be more economical to invest your time proofreading and editing before publishing.'

And besides, the point which they complained so much about - the long, flowery descriptions of the male lead's handsomeness - was a reason I liked this book more. ( ̄︿ ̄)

I felt the author may have intentionally done this to break gender stereotypes. As it is usually female leads who are praised for their beauty countless times in such arduous descriptions full of overused tropes. But in our society, this is the norm which no one complains about. Thus, I find it even more ironic and hypocritical that the translators and editors complained about this. (¬_¬;)

Not to mention, from a writer's perspective, it is very commendable of the author to portray the male lead's attractiveness in this true-to-life way. Appearance cannot be expressed through a book any other way, thus the author was simply committed to fully expressing the male lead's handsomeness. (๑˘︶˘๑)

Besides the subpar translations, I think this is one of my favourite novels of all time. The female lead is definitely her own woman and is super smart and the male lead is very charming and is very capable of matching her amazing-ness.╰ (*´︶`*) ╯♡

However to someone who is about to read the book, I would warn that the villains present are simply too hateful. They make you boil with anger at their antics and s*upidity. (ʘдʘ╬) Buuut it's all good because the author delivers some very satisfying face slapping. (ღ˘⌣˘ღ) <<less

i've been spending the last 5 days binge reading this and in the beginning, I still had a normal lifestyle. And then afterwards, it progressively got worse as I was reading till 3am every night but still had work the next day, so it was just lack of sleep piling on every day after. Agony. But also I could never learn the previous night's lesson. It was worth it.

but finally, it's over, and I'm very sad about it. It's been awhile where i've felt like this. I absolutely loved this... more>> book to death, and I love both of the FL & ML very much.

there are so many areas where I just want to bookmark to reread often. There are also a lot of times where I am rereading the same sentence multiple times just to savor it. In the eng tl, there's a lot of mistakes, and it got hard sometimes to understand what the translated line was trying to get through, but based on how much I loved the overall style, I was able to get past that hurdle.

i really wish this would be able to have a cdrama adaptation. Would've loved to see all of the scheming and all of the characters brought to life. This story may not be perfect, but it was perfect to me. Full 5 stars. <<less

Dear reader: learn from my bitter experience and do not read this novel when you have a deadline coming up. It is long, and it is full of cliffhangers. Save this one for a long weekend with no other commitments, because it is very, very hard to stop reading midway.

Edit: after 170 chapters or so it became less interesting, but don't worry, 170 chapters is enough for my warning to hold. I am dropping a star, partially for the ML being boring in the first half (he gets better... more>> in the second), but mostly because I am really annoyed that female villains get proper payback but male villains get off super lightly - the pe*ophile who tortures people is simply killed, the evil uncles suffer less than the evil aunts, the male cousin who is a major antagonist just gets executed where his sister literally get tortured until she goes insane, the MAIN ANTAGONIST is killed off screen (super mad about this). Compare to female antagonists getting tortured, humiliated, r*ped, etc before their deaths. <<less

I think this is a pretty well written story, but some parts personally doesn't gel with me.

The plot is well planned, unlike many stories where the MC goes oh he/she planned this, thus results just falls into their lap without much effort, the author describes the mc's actions meticulously planned without much glaring holes and plot armor. Character and events are described in great detail, hence side characters are more fleshed out than typical throwaway side cast in other series.

What I'm not a fan of is the use of r*pe... more>> and genocide (of families) as revenge tool, I understand that she had withstood quite a bit of brutality from her time before the time jump but the pre emptive revenge doesn't feel satisfying for me as some of her victims have only wronged her in the past but hasn't done anything major as of her return. (Eg, the eunuch boi who literally just got hired got f-ed by her as in the future (past?) he was made to execute her, she allowed the r*pe and social su*cide of her cousin when all she did up to the point point was to mislead her into being gaudy as a kid).

I'm also not a fan of the authors excessively flowery description of the male love interest, which feels a little like trying to create THE dream bad boi for the MC to tame. The authors meandering language on the story which at times leads to great character and world building is sometimes just extra, such as taking what feels like one whole chapter for 10 minute sequence of a character challenging the MC.

In conclusion, not bad, not my cup of tea. <<less

It feels like I'm going against the grain here, but I didn't love this novel as everyone else seems to.

Yes, it was very entertaining to read about how Shen Miao takes revenge on everyone for her past life. She has everything planned so meticulously, it sometimes feels like she's playing chess while everyone is playing checkers. However, I feel the plot of the novel really dragged. I also didn't like how ... more>>

ML "died" prior to the time skip or how Shen Miao fell in a coma towards the end and only woke up when the ML came back from war

.

While I praise the author for developing a "realistic" romance between the ML and MC from potential enemies to allies and then to lovers, their interactions didn't feel heartwarming to me.

Overall, a good read, but I wasn't as impressed as I thought I would be. Maybe my expectations were too high. <<less

I've got to say this is probably my favorite novel of this theme so far. I love the MC, I like that she isn't completely OP and her actions were simply with her character's means (a noble daughter) and sort of with a realistic touch. I like how she successfully schemed to protect herself and family on her own using her own wits without the knowledge of her family, it just made that part where XJX told her parents everything that she did all the more touching for me.

Spoiler

that scheme against that scum imperial family member was seriously delicious, the way she used others to eliminate her enemy was so well done tbh

[collapse]

SM was the best FL for me, I just love her (i love smart MC's that schemes let others do the work for them and watch the show then reap rewards lol). Also, the author really came through in creating a bond between our leads, SM and XJX had solid moments where you could feel the romance between them churning which made it all the more convincing and moving.

But most of all I liked how solid the plot felt. The storyline flowed well and everything was wrapped up pretty nice, the crucial characters was given their highlights and had a decent character building (for better or worse)

Spoiler

Especially the story behind how the reincarnation happened and how our leads were connected by fate, because that quality was rare to find in other stories with this theme (trust me i've read tons). So that made me love this all the more.

[collapse]

If you're into the reincarnation genre, this is a mustworthy read I tell you. <<less

Definitely worth it

Those who dared to give this other than five stars are all sick

Spoiler

MC and ML are so compatible. Both good at scheming, intelligent and they are so cute together. Especially when MC is drunk lol

I really like how our empress deal with her enemies, like she's so damn badass. She's far from those pathetic girls who only know how to spout revenge and just rely on their husband or whatever

She also told her husband about her rebirth though in a form of dream and our jing xing is just so cute when he's on teasing mode

And also that ye mei, she deserves what happened to her. So what if she was tortured to death, who told her to be a scheming bit*h and put our empress shen to a tough situation

I was somehow at a loss. After reading this I can't find any novel that could compete with this one. <<less

Well, that was amazing. I've picked up and dropped this series a couple of times before, thinking it was overhyped, but it really shows its best in the later chapters. There's a bit of a lull halfway through, in the 130-150ish area, and a bit of a genre divergence in 190-210.

The pacing and plot is tight throughout, and what I really like about it is that aside from being reborn, there are zero cheats for Shen Miao. She has no space, no legendary martial arts skills, nothing except bitter lessons... more>> from a previous life. While attracting the attention of the male lead honestly could be considered a cheat, she also attracts the attention of many other powerful men who are very undesirable, making it a two-edged sword.

The other thing I very much enjoyed about this novel was it's clever usage of turning other people's schemes back on themselves. Outside of a few particular cases, Shen Miao tends not to go looking for trouble, and generally doesn't strike unless struck at. She also has a tendency to divert two enemies toward each other, which is both very intelligent and also very enjoyable. It makes a lot of the violence much more ethically palatable when you consider that whatever is happening had been planned for her in the first place.

Although the stakes rise as the story goes on, the main character doesn't get more and more vicious. Instead, she starts losing her taste for gloating over her fallen enemies, becoming tired and jaded of revenge, and eventually is able to put it aside in search of a better future. I enjoy this form of character development much more than unnecessary gore thrown in to keep readers.

Now for the male lead. XJX honestly is a bit of a bore in the early chapters. I want to say the author tried too hard with him early on, trying to paint him as the most perfectly handsome mysterious powerful man (and tiger) evah, I tended to skip over his sections (the translator's reactions to entire paragraphs of nonsensical graceful moonlight descriptions are hilarious though). The romance comes very slow, so he doesn't get character development for a good long time. However, I really began warming to him in the second half of the book, and I'll tell you why.

It's because XJX is that rarest and most mysterious breed of handsome billionaire CEO - a man who sincerely respects the opinions of the female lead. There are bajillions of CNs out there whose "romance" ends up being half r*pe, and it is super disconcerting. Not so here! She gives an opinion, and he thinks it's a good one. He gives an opinion and she agrees. He's attracted to her clever mind, instead of falling in love at first sight. He backs off when she sets boundaries and doesn't push her for s*x. He trusts her to uphold her end of things and they work together like an actual couple! Holy shit! Am I even still reading a Chinese novel?!

Shen Miao (usually drunk) actually ends up being the main initiator of most of the intimate scenes, and I love it. I must have bust a gut laughing on their postponed wedding night.

Last but not least: the translation is readable. While I've got to commend the translation team on completing such a difficult and longish novel, it is a bit hard to get used to the style as it's still very much Chinese grammar. It would be a lot of work, but would definitely benefit from an editor going back over it to rephrase sentences, so that it flowed better in English. <<less

Although the translation isn't good. There are a lot of grammatical errors but the hard work put into translating this is commendable.

The story at first seems like any other transmigration story inhale ever read but what really sets it apart is that the female is ordinary except for the knowledge of the future events but there are instances that even she couldn't predict because she had changed the future as soon as was reborn. The male lead isn't your regular smooth talker prince charming, but a ruthless character with high... more>> intelligence and devastating good looks, (description gets annoying after a while) is perfect for the FL. The side characters are all funny and nice. All in all, a good story. Really loving it so far. :)) <<less

Honestly, I love revenge stories of unfair turn in lives of FLs, and this. Is. GOLD. Totally worth reading if you're looking for a bad**s FL and a total hunk of a ML. Revenge stories are nice. And I just love how she executed them all (double meaning intended).

Without doubt, Rebirth of the Malicious Empress of Military Lineage is one of the best female readers targeted light novel I have ever read. After catching up to the translator ages ago like around chapter 60ish, I decided to read the novel on Chinese novel websites. Great read, very few novels managed to capture my heart to directly read from the raws. Not only that, I actually purchased the entire novel set to freely read over when I want to. Right now, even through I've completely finished reading the novel... more>> in Chinese I'm still keeping up with the translated chapter updates. It's a great light novel series so I don't remind rereading a couple of more times.

Story ★★★★★

Characters ★★★★★

Translation ★★★★★

Although the translation is great, I do however recommend readers to go read the raws if possible. I noticed a few scenes are kind of lost in translation. The translator translates word for word for some scenes, so sometimes the implied meaning of the text would be difficult for those that don't know Chinese to interpret. As an example, in the arc of the Assassination of Prince Yu and Death of Shen Qing
Spoiler

there was a scene of Shen Miao telling the unfortunate fate the Chen twin sisters to get Chen family's assistance in the assassination. The lines "Afterwards Prince Yu gave the older sister to his subordinates and was tortured and beaten to death. The younger sister was insulted during the escape journey and was blinded in one eye, " were especially ones I remembered. Just as a note the word "insulted" a much censored version of sexually harassed or r*ped in the Chinese language. Therefore the Chen younger sister wasn't "insulted" but rather she was r*ped and harassed throughout her escape.

[collapse]

I just wanted to point this out since, when I read the translated chapter 83 I saw a lot of comments saying that the fate of the Chen twin sisters wasn't that bad. I'm pretty sure you guys can probably find some other lines that seem a bit inconsistent if you guys reread the novel a bit. But other than the slight lost in translation, everything is quite good. I especially like the extra chapters. Particularly the short love story of

I was glad there weren’t any big hurdles in the midst of their romance. I’m not the type of person who likes angst/heartbreak, so I was really glad that there weren’t any prominent love rivals. I was feeling a bit sad, though, reading their “Cold War” scenes. I’m glad Mei Furen, and the ex- husband, got what they deserved in the end. Overall, my favorite moment was when Shen Miao woke up from her coma after giving birth, and laughed. Would recommend this novel 100/10!

Probably the best CN novel on this site (at least from all that I've read until now).

We have a nice female MC that has a proper personality, is neither OP nor a complete idiot, she rather has a cunning mind and solves all of her problems by intelligent scheming. While setting is absolutely boring, since we have seen this many, many times (in CN novels), it's used very well and the fact that she is living that period of her life a second time is used in a proper way.... more>> I general most of the characters feel realistic, though a lot of her opponents/enemies are really one-dimensional and even a sheet of paper has sometimes more depth, though that's not the case for all of them. But the female enemies are really flat, no denying on that part.

As said before, the way the MC is solving her problems is very well done, but there are some problematic areas: The male lead is extremely boring, until now he hasn't changed from the very beginning on aside from the fact that he has started to like the MC, which is kind of understandable, but could have been written better. I guess the male lead is the absolute stereotype of the ideal CN-male-MC, cold, ruthless, capable, intelligent, strong, very, very (very...) beautiful and he only loves the MC. Basically a very unrealistic character that might be as well part of a self-insert wish-fulfillment story and every time the author is describing him, some new description of his ridiculous beauty is pulled from the ass. By now I just skip them completely.

The romance is also rather weak and boring, I haven't seen much development though there is some going on the side lines, but more could be expected.

Overall a great novel with quite a few flaws, but I guess that 4 stars are justifiable, otherwise all CN novels will be rated by me with 2 stars or worse and considering the difference in quality this is a fitting score. <<less

Currently the best chinese novel I have read. Best plotline and story flow with the rebirth concept.

it doesnt lack sentimental & feelings it supposed to have when MC previous past was reminisced. Bringing up the past made MC cruel and indifferent behaviour understandable.

for a chinese novel, this is not draggy at all. Considering that the plot has developed well and the characters are well defined within 100 chapters.

I like how dedicated the MC is to correct her mistakes and wrongs toward her family. The writer did well in describing her... more>> suffering, pained, guilt in her previous life due to her selfishness and idiocy. It can always make sad, thinking that her family now; father mother and brother was supposedly killed during her previous life. Her family is sooooo loving and caring and protective and so simple minded people that you cant help but wish them the best ending ever and nothing bad would ever happen to them. I hope the writer give them justice and not kill themmmm for whatever reason as I would definitely cry if MC family died.

and there is the male lead. ?? I hope he can slowly melt our MC and give her love that she deserved to have. The male lead is a blessing to the female lead. I like how he being subtle on his actions towards her but still do not deny his heart.

this novel is VERY similar to Princess Weiyang to me. But this one tops the former because Shen Miao seems to be a lot stronger and domineering as a female lead. She does behaved like an empress would. <<less

This cnovel of this genre is currently the best of all I have read thus far. The plot is so intriguing and you just can't tell what is round the corner. It is my favorite favorite of the novels I have read here ever. Yes, no. 1, top 1, bestest, most outstanding. Because of the calculative, rational and calm thinking, being adaptive to changing people and situations, making use of the previous life's knowledge to the max, killing people with words and actual swords, it lacks nothing in my opinion.

My only regret is that I didn't discover this when translations have ended, because of the long long wait after each cliffys </3
