I've read MGQ a long time ago and I remembered crying a river because of Ah'Rong and her situations. She's truly strong. This story is nothing like those rebirth novels who has OP for an MC, or a perfect ML ready to serve his all in a silver platter for his beloved. No, in this story, you'll be greatly disappointed with ML. Why? That's because he's not perfect, he makes mistakes.

When I was reading MGQ, I thought I was reading some historical book that was based on a true story.... more>> That's because every character here felt like a real person to me. I can feel their pain, their struggles, the hard decisions that characters in some rebirth stories make like they were just deciding what to eat. I just want Chen Rong to feel happy, with or without a man.

Spoiler

I may like Qilong but I honestly don't like him for Chen Rong, but like in reality, I was speaking as a third person. I'm not Chen Rong who felt Qilong's love and sincerity but too stubborn to be his concubine (because c'mon, she knew better and I truly, truly support her in this) and I'm not Qilong who truly loves Ah'Rong but couldn't make huge sacrifices coz of practical reasons (although I got annoyed sometimes but I couldn't truly blame him. Because this is an era where power and titles matter the most and if you're just a person without a power backing you, then it's over for you. And Chen Rong knew very well Qilang's situation but still doesn't want to bend and I really admire her for that)

I'll reread this but I need to ready myself first. <<less

I honestly like it when an author doesn't give us the same generic male lead (Who will give the female lead the world and is too OP) I love the restraint, angst that this novel shows. It's different and perhaps some people can't stomach it as they want that kind of perfect male lead (hence the negative reviews). I personally love it when a novel deviates from that persona and I don't get why it gets negative reviews.

I just love everything about this novel!!!

I have never been bored since I started it and this shows just how captivating the characters are. For once there is a story where all the male leads, be it main or secondary, all give off an alpha feel to them and not just a feel of I am the second male lead and I know that whatever I do I won't get the girl so I practically do nothing during the whole story. Their strong characters make a really nice resistance to... more>> each other and strengthen the plot, making it more interesting.

One more really nice thing about this novel is that our FL is not this all knowing girl who never fails, the FL has emotions that we can relate to, she worries and struggles to get her happiness, not like all those unfeeling Fls that have everything and are overly self confident about how things will develop. This makes it so that we can't be sure about how things will unfold and keeps us wanting for more.

I can't wait to know what will happen next!

If anyone knows of a similar story please let me know!! <<less

This one is just too sad, yet beautiful.

We're forced to read how a young and humble girl was faced with ill-fated paths that she had no control of. Chen Rong only wanted to live humbly and happily, yet almost all the forces in the world were leading her to public scruntiny--all because of her beauty.

Also, the translation team is superb. I've never read any chinese web novel translated work better than this one.

The story of a weak girl in the waves of life and love. I cant fathom her decisions, but somehow they draw me in and make me feel for her. Every time she clears the sea a new wave comes crashing. Will her suffering ever end?

This would be a master piece if her servants werent so s*upid and annoying and if the TL wouldnt skip chapters and destroy the mood. Still definitely recommended.

So this story is really weird. Like starts off SO GOOD. Like a typical reincarnation/rebirth shoujo storyline with a baddass girl. And you kinda figure out who the male lead is... but wait... get to around chapter 120. I don't know about this anymore. I almost vomited blood from my anger and frustration. Like how much nonsense does she have to deal with?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This reminds me a little of "road to jianghu is curved" which I stopped reading when the author pulled this same bullsh*t on me. But I have always... more>> had the mind to go back and finish that story, just to see if it can redeem itself. I hope the author redeems this story after this dumb plot twist. But then again.. I guess it is an original twist to a shoujo rebirth story. Hm. Let us see how it goes... <<less

Just by reading this novel have I realized that I don't hate crying female characters. Cheng Rong is not at all hateful despite her crying at almost all significant scenes. I mean, sure she went back to the past but without any other cheat except for her memories. She's still most times helpless but it can't be helped and she's already done or trying her best to cope with her situation that she remains blameless. There are those characters that you can't help but be... more>> vexed at. The romance though is very slow. There's lots of flirting and sure the male lead and other characters might be interested in her but due to her circumstance, nothing is set to stone yet. The phase though is very realistic. This is certainly not your love at first sight, us against the world type of story (at least for now, not yet). How many of us will get to experience such love? Therefore, this story is just right, much more relatable. <<less

A stunningly good story, translated extremely well. As the previous reviewer stated, the MC is not a superpowered person, but a intelligent girl, from a humble background, doing everything she can to navigate the perils of a male-dominated clan. Using the fore-knowledge gained from her previous, mistake filled life, she vows to avoid the perils and pitfalls she made the previous time.

Almost a reverse harem, the story is filled with guys, who obviously like her, who unfortunately cannot marry her because of her low status. I am very much looking... more>> forward to seeing how this story turns out. <<less

Enjoyable story. Kind of like a mini male harem for the female lead, haha!
Female lead is pretty intelligent and calm at certain times.
In her previous life, things went haywire for her.
Spoiler

The man she loved didn't care when she killed herself. He didn't even bother with her. She died while thinking, "For what... All of this was for what?" In her second life, she is determined to turn things around, take revenge, and finally achieve true happiness.

First to the reviewer below me.. Don't bash other novels or a reviewer.. In a review please, everyone has their own tastes..

Secondly, This novel is really nice, won't go into much detail but for a novel with a Female lead perspective it is really well developed and is not the typical modern person goes into the past. But instead shows how a originally weak willed girl turns into something else..
I highly recommend.

I cannot believe I managed to force myself to finish this. The novel beginning was very promising especially bc how well the translation was. The beginning was typical but it did it job to hooked the reader into wondering what the MC story was, and it did not disappoint esp in her thought out plans in the beginning to escape her original choices.
~ long rant coming ~

BUT all the beautiful plot, details and translation went down the drain whenever MC interacted with the male characters surround her. Her swift decisions and careful planning n independent image would go down the drain giving her a helpless image, which is fine considered the setting of ancient china n our MC a concubine born daughter with no familial backing I guess one can b this dumb. HOWEVER she's reborn for fuxxx sake, she don't need to have all those OP power or memories but com on any time a male love interest is involve, she just let them bounce her around like a bouncy ball n all her past memories n great tactics goes out the window.

Spoiler

THE FREAKING ML OMG. Now I think the way his character is built is great on it own esp if u take into consideration the cultural n historical timeline he's apart of. All of his actions that do not put our MC into much of his thoughts at all. Esp when he can only offer her to b a concubine position after taking her v card due to her birth and his ambitions. See all of this make sense. WHAT DOESNT MAKE SENSE IS HOW MC put up with ML actions time n time again. Esp near the end when he risk her life n the unborn child life to get to his goal of keeping her with him w/o letting her know. The only sense in any of our MC actions n thought process is she's not as "in love" w/ him if I look at it. To me it's more of an attachment. N her ex from previous life idk how tf she still have. "Feelings" for him!?! Sure I understand the lack of vengeance etc bc her hatred is mostly with her cousin (even though I believe he's also 100% responsible as well, esp when it's reveal in their 1st live when he's made emperor he regretted not loving her bc he realized she's the one that genuinely love him, eye roll) getting entangle with the ex n still have feelings ??? Nahhh

[collapse]

Anyway please save yourself the time n head ache from reading this novel. Idk how the translator, heck idk how I myself made it to the end just to b slap in the face with the BS ending adding more to the BS train wreck that it is already.

Honestly, the plot just felt so real... it's not like the other Mary Sue novels where the FL has everything along with a wonderful perfect ML who devotes his whole life to her.

The spoiler below gives the summary of the novel.

Spoiler

You know what she wanted monogamy in her new life after how she suffered being one of the many concubines in Ran Min's backyard. Her love for him was never reciprocated and he looked at other woman. In this life when she finally found Wang Hong, he was somewhat similar. In that era, polygamous marriages were the norm, so men, especially those of high status had oncubines. Wang Hong's life was going to be the same but he fell in Chen Rong and so did she. Because of her low status he couldn't marry her as his official wife, but Chen Rong decided she will never be a concubine nor will she share her husband with other women. This sounded ridiculous to Wang Hong, but he didn't realise that this is what she expected from him. They faced so many perilous journeys afterwards. In the end, Wang Hong slowly realises how much loved her, he was ready to give up his status, reputation and life for her. And he couldn't imagine a life with anyone else. But Chen Rong still felt uneasy. Wang Hong finally understands that the only thing she wanted from him was the promise of monogamy. And he fulfils it.

I'm only giving this a 5star because I love the female lead and the writing is good.
Author... I curse you to suffer a thousand times what our heroine is suffering.
Why do you have to treat her so.
You made her so lovable but torment her with the most idiotic male leads I've ever read of.
Do they just want her to kill herself or what?
Just setting traps for her. And that 不要脸 Xilang, you want her to love you but don't want to even take care of her the way she ought to be loved. Shameless.

I had to read this with a bucket full of tissue.
Heroine, hang in there, we love you. (༎ຶ ෴ ༎ຶ)

.......

Hehe spicy chicken author, although you do have a talent for torturing us, you did indeed make my female lead happy in the end.

I thank you for this

This story is really full of drama and helplessness for the MC. Can’t blame her as she live in those time and her face really gives her trouble. Most of the time you will feel frustrated for her and sometimes feels she too lucky, but also very helpless. Ml, truly a black belly, truly. And the circumstances make him so rightly too. Hiah so helpless. The translation is ok but sometimes I need to reread to understand some parts. I thank you translator for her hard work. (I also... more>> thank you for some of the skips cus I know some parts really not needed)

But I do feel the world setting abit confusing, and some villians really ignorants? Maybe those days really like that, cus those days societies like that? So don’t dwell on it.
Overall, a quiet good read, just some plots may not what you aspect or even feel occ. So, just read as it is. Tq <<less

Exceptional. The characters have depth and growth. The setting feels grounded in some degree of realism. The plot moves forward at a measured pace. There’s love, hate, and angst - and most importantly, a satisfying ending. There are plenty of tropes, some with twists, that genre readers will appreciate. Most of all, the translation is superb. I’m very grateful for the opportunity to read this story that will stay with me for some time.

Well I just spent a feverish 48 hours reading this in one go. I feel obligated to review it.

The translation is really well done, hamster does a great job keeping the story entertaining and smooth. Also does a great job just straight up summarizing and skipping especially boring parts (This only happens like 3ish times don't worry).

I don't really know how to like, summarize this novel and my feelings on it well. I understand people's grievances but what I don't think THEY don't understand is that this is written entirely... more>> from the POV of an ancient woman raised in that society. It is also a dog's blood drama novel. When you accept those to things about it the reading experience is very good. Ah Rong's mission to live happily literally does drag out until the last chapter but it's extremely well earned.

I feel badly for the second ML, in this life and the past, but I also know he's strong enough to handle himself. ML really just.... isn't lmao. He's a little insane imo. But that's okay because MC is also a little insane.

Anyway, if you have the time I'd say give this a go. <<less

Confusing. Very confusing. The start was pretty nice. But eventually, it started to get really confusing. I really liked the MC at first. But her constant change of decisions just frustrates me. As for the mls? Nah. Tr*sh. I'm dropping this. Good translations though.

I suppose you're reading the reviews here to see if the novel should be read or not. There's glowing reviews and then not so good reviews. You just had to find out my thoughts on it, as well?

The translation is phenomenal! I really give kudos to the translator, except (or perhaps it's a good thing) Ms. Translator would summarize a few chapters so you jump to the chapter where there's action. You might ask why waste reading three chapters that can summarize what happened in just a few paragraph--translation should... more>> respect the author's work even if the chapters were boring. However, I agree with the translator and thank her for that effort.

I'm sorry to say that this novel pulls you in and then immerses you into a good rebirth premise, only to show you a whirlwind or a play behind a screen. There were so many characters randomly thrown in and afterwards disappeared, main characters have so many inconsistencies (a howling, very capable, good-looking ML?), and the goal for a young girl of 14-15 years old is too lofty. I was also quite confused how she acts too independent and irrational for the time period--they could have just labeled her crazy. In my imagination, the whole plot suddenly turned into shadow knights and decided to make a whole mess of the readers' enjoyment. So, yes... this happened to end up on my dropped novel pile. <<less

The best things about this novel is a realistic portrayal of the main individuals personalities and how their choices and actions bring them through twists and turns to and away from each other.

The novel's handful of main characters are well portrayed and it was mostly a pleasant read. The heroine worked hard to prevail in her disadvantageous position as a female in a patriarchal society with no backing and no proper pedigree, her boldness and firm grip to be true to herself instead of trying to be what she thought... more>> someone else wanted her to be, while dealing with complicated emotions from her past and new entanglements are an interesting read.

The major downside for me is the drawn out struggles against adversity from her family, while the struggles are understandable as it is not easy to "get rid" of your own clan and family realistically, repeated obstacles from the same people and cattiness from the same females again and again through nearly 100 chapters felt tiresome.

Most other characters suffer from one dimensional personality but the relevant ones were still detailedly portrayed and you can understand their obsession, pain, grief etc.

All in all, a good read despite minor flaws. <<less
