Warning: spoilers ahead related to the ML. Gonna speak on that instead of rehashing all the other stuff discussed by other reviewers.

So. This novel suffers from the usual gendered power dynamic for hetromance wherein the ML must hold power over the FL in some shape or form. Sometimes it’s wealth, sometimes social status or bloodline, sometimes physical strength, sometimes intelligence, etc.

In this, despite the incredibly OP, special snowflake, not-like-the-other-girls, genius FL... the ML is still somehow her better when it comes to mecha. He outperforms her score on a... more>> skill evaluation (or she underperforms, however you wanna swing it). Not to mention the fact he’s supposed to be somewhat sickly, which causes his difficulties in claiming the spot as heir to his family. And yet.

It’s another cnovel that reinforces the trope of “no matter how superior a woman, she is a man’s inferior” — gotta keep her a damsel somehow, amirite? (ꐦ ಠ⌄ಠ) ノ彡┻━┻

Some day, a novel ML will fall in love with someone he can’t control, overpower, manipulate, or groom/influence. This isn’t him.

[Predicting the type of angry DMs I’m gonna get again, I’m gonna add this disclaimer: I’m not saying an FL needs to be invincible or without compare — just kinda sucks that the one to hold power over her is her love interest for 99.99%. <<less

All these misinforming reviews 😬

Guys. Did we even read the same thing? These doubts;

‘MC isn’t like a female at all’

‘a real man would seem more like a girl beside MC’

‘MC’s gender is hidden for so long’

‘why human soldier when theres AI’

‘MC too OP’

yada yada yada. For all I know they were all answered in the novel. 🧐
Spoiler

-Reread the title and the tags. This ain’t shoujo. 😘

- First author mentioned a couple details pertaining to that. And with their own temperament/facades I thought it was fairly obvious why.
🙂

- Did you even read. 1. They’d be fodders for the wolves if it weren’t for Mama Lan’s choice. 2. Welp, Daddy Ling’s blunder. What’s done is done. 3. Ling Lan wanted to temper the team to be ready for war. 4. She realised she likes her military life now. And the most important: It’s a tragically misogynistic setting.

- 🙂 As if you read somewhere that self conscious AI is raining down everywhere.

- I wonder what were the life and death events were for 🤯

[collapse]

And let’s be real nothing’s perfect. No character is perfect, no author is perfect. But I, for one, am pretty satisfied of this novel in it’s essence. Some points I really like are:

1. There are very few believable “female pretending to be male” out there. Most are just ridiculous clowns getting passed off cause author is spoon feeding you. If you’re raised in a certain way for 10+, 20+ years, likely you’d find it hard to be something else. I.e. Tarzan, wolf boy. Habits die hard.
2. Challenges levels up as the characters grow. (Characters. Grow. ✨) MC was also once an impatient, immature, hapless chap. MC’s friends were once rowdy kids. They’re gradually maturing, their strength didn’t come from nothing. And they aren’t OP at all. What about the divine realm masters? What of the three marshals?
Spoiler

What of Ling Xiao and Xie Yi’s sacrifice?

[collapse]
3. I also like the pacing of the story overall. (Though I do find the author a bit wordy, no sweat.) I read from their immaturity, to their pubescent hot bloodedness, to them learning to be an adult and be calm. It’s neat how there’s a gradual change of— I don’t know what to call it— tone? Not quite. Idk.
As for whether it’s a good sci-fi, I’m new to the genre so can’t comment on that. Overall, I like it anyway. (Yes, even if ML is flawed, author made a note on that. And with how immaculate Ling Lan is to my eyes I don’t think I’d be satisfied with anyone else. But so far I don’t find ML a sore eye. His mentality is a bit disturbing and confusing at first but ones you catch how and why he came to have such thoughts then you’d find it’s actually not that negative)

i bet this novel is being spammed by 50 cents dummy accounts for good reviews. This is honestly a frustrating and disappointing novel. I've read a lot of bad novels where I can still continue reading by turning off my brain cells but this one right here is beyond that. You'll be frustrated and annoyed many many many times.

problems with this novel is, first, the exaggeration. Getting hugged by a 6 year old made MC (a 30+ old woman) think she can't get married anymore and she's no longer... more>> a pure maiden.

since mc's father is dead. MC was given luxurious privileges by the government and military because of his father's deed befitting of a hero, a higg ranking major and a legendary youngest strongest mecha operator but MC didn't even searched for her father's fame or position for whole 7years. In those 7 years, she was targeted by a group of enemy nation wanting revenge on her late father and that almost killed her but guess what? She didn't searched any information about her father after that. Even her god like A.I companion didn't mention it. Such forced of plot. Also Mc's father's legacy that even the whole military want to open only consist of basic handspeed technique and this exaggerated introduction that their futuristic martial art like world that has inhumane physical ability don't have basic handspeed techniques.

and this super duper god like A.I proclaiming he's a god in virtual reality can't even help MC know the basics of this virtual world. He also sold some novels and he earned thousands of billions of money. MC visited random store, met a random employee, and this employee had a feeling that MC is destined to become the biggest, strongest mecha operator in universe so he felt good introducing basic items.

6 year olds in this novel are almost adults, think like adults and act like adults. Even though they haven't experienced enough in life, the exaggeration this brats says that they've suffered for 6 years in their homes. I don't get why would the author start the story in 6 years old. Even the school arc is boring cause MC is Op as fùck, there's no tension whatsoever, no good plots, just a bunch of introductions, that'll took chapters because of the exaggeration, you can forget since later on it'll be forgotten anyways

second, the bad translation or the way author wrote. In almost every goddamn chapter there is MC is like this because she went throught years of hellish training in her mind space, so she is cool, badass, smart, etc. Tons of glancing coolly, glare coolly, looking coolly, spoke coolly whatever cool there is. Mentions of MC is a cautious, unfeeling, ruthless, cold person time and time again but gets scared and shocked when someone spoke next to her. Worse the story itself is giving SPOILERS. Such as there are mentions (what did she not know is her father is still alive in the future) (what she did not know is this family will always be by her side in the future) (this thing will help her indafuture) out of nowhere spoilers come out giving no sense of mystery and thrill. Also things introduced earlier such as high quality genes, benefits, medicines etc etc were forgotten later on. U can skip most introduction of an item cause it'll be forgotten anyways.

third. The author's sense of height and no logic battle details. In the story, 6 year olds can hit adults higher than them can punch or kick them straight in the face without jumping or whatnot. Battle details are lacking of imagination, only punches here kick there slash here dodge dodge. That's all.

MC can learn superior skills in her mind space but chose not to look for one and continue learning low tier skills. In short, author sucks at writing battle scenes, which is the mainpoint in this novel.

fourth. The UNNECESARY dramas. Author doesn't know what human emotions are nor does she know about basic common sense about family. A LOT lot of unnecessary dramas are thrown in the story such as. MC's father returns home, MC being cold, ruthless, unfeeling, rude towards his father for no goddamn reason, father gets angry just becauss, MC's mother came in, gets angry and shouts, then suddenly have sēx after going to their rooms. (Honestly I skipped those scenes so fast cause it was so cringe. Very cringed.) this is just the tip of unnecessary dramas without making sense.

5th. Author giving dumb explanations or excuses about simple of simple things. Author thinks we readers are retärded that can't even guessed about the simplistic boring plots or ideas this tr*sh novel has. Worse, author forgot about introductions, plots, explanations, characters on earlier chapters and later on will be changed out of nowhere such as (rankings where u don't know who is stronger because author forgot her earlier ranking) (MC saying she'll researched for her father but it took years before she did so)

6. Author doesn't know how military works and suck at it giving shìtty introductions, rankings, business, poilitical power. Such as MC's father is the strongest mecha operator, that finished many missions, thousands of enemies, protected the nation and a General too, which is the second highest commander in the military, but the military he works for didn't even give him necessary equipments, subordinates, resources, officers and operators for his Army Division that he's responsible for. Which is really dumb because who the hell works without any benefits gained? Author just want to show how he is struggling for no goddamn reason.

All in all, the Author is below mediocre without researching materials needed for her own novel and just dump us retàrded explanations whenever she can't explain it. <<less

I enjoyed the novel mostly. The overpowered MC is fun and good side characters. I will not go deeper into the good points since they did not keep me reading. I decided do drop her novel before I am too pissed.

The top review below 5 stars by Short_Biscuit mentions all important points, but I wanted to write down why I dropped the novel, too.

  1. The author spoils all mayor plot developments up to 200 chapters in advance. This kills any potential for long term tension, since you always know roughly what's going to happen.
  2. This novel is a sci-fi written by someone without knowledge about technology and nature. The author doesn't even research the properties of a block hole, it is painful. Often she uses weapons e. G. Lasers, rockets like a school of magic where the properties change whenever the caster (mechanic) wants. It was better after I decided to see this as a fantasy novel.
  3. She is a believer. Filled to the top with nationalism and propaganda messages.
  4. So much filler + extremely slow. I started so skip about 50% without having the feeling to miss out for the last 100 chapters.
Will I revisit this novel? Probably not, a proper romance or gender reviling would have kept me going. But I read some other reviews and now I have no reason to... more>> hope for that. <<less

Y'all, listen here. I'm gonna tell ya somethin'.

This story. Is my absolute favorite. It's great.

Don't let none of these other critics convince ya otherwise.

... more>> It may be wordy, but the beauty of words is that you can ignore them and get to the meat of the subject.

Besides, y'all. More words is better than none at all. You get used to skimming the bigger paragraphs and the technical side details can pretty much be skipped entirely.

There is a hiatus however. Now, most novels on this site never get updated ever again after they go on hiatus.

But I BELIEVE, brothers and sisters. I have FAITH. That Madam Ru will one day return!

BELIEVE AND PRAY Y'ALL. AS LONG AS THIS STORY GETS UPDATED BEFORE I DIE, I WILL DIE HAPPY. <<less

Ughh, just another typical Chinese tr*sh novel, start out promising but later got bogged down because the author is too busy spiritually wanking to Space Not!China. I mean the whole geopolitical "Galaxy" map is just straight copy and paste from old earth. How unoriginal and half-assed. Yeah, we get it! Chinese "master race" is superior to everyone else. Stop repeating the same message! Seriously, this novel could be a lot bettef of the author had choose not to include his/her chinese bias into it. The concersation lines of the "Twilight"... more>> Empire (bff, really original, how cute) still made me cringe so hard whenever I remembered them. It's seem like that the only insult word in their vocabulary is "Baka". It was absolutely pathetic, like you are watching a ReversedWeeb going ham. Another thing that is also pathetic is the iq of non-Space!China Villains, they read like a bunch of ret*rds despite being supposedly dangerous. The only saving grace of this novels is the fight scenes which are good, I admitted that.

Tl;dr: Another typical China Wank novel. <<less

I wanted to like this. I did like Ling Lan herself. In some places it is entertaining; it was fun to see cultivation start from the womb, and for the story to not dive straight into the teenage years or later. However, it couldn't hold my interest. Despite the sci-fi trappings, it's slow to show anything other than training or combat. I like a young start with a focus on the school years, but that's supposed to mean seeing the hero excel in a variety of studies, and it instead... more>> skips from the first day of school, where Ling Lan establishes herself in the pecking order, to the mid-year student ranking tournament, which is more along the same lines, and rather boring. It's all window dressing for a battle novel.

And as a battle novel, I don't think it justifies itself. The premise, as far as I read, was to take a nice, friendly girl, and use a child-torturing AI program to turn her into a sadistic machine, ostensibly to kill other human beings for a futuristic but inequitable Chinese space government. Why? Why, as an adult, does she go along with this? In living as a young primary school student from a rich family, with no great enemy to be killed in revenge, and no loved one to be rescued, does she not just ask her lovable AI mascot friend to turn off the program that's causing her to be repeatedly eaten alive, through days that are experienced as years? She literally has no motivation for any of this suffering, except for the expectation placed upon a battle novel to have brutal training arcs.

The author, appearing to realize this a little late, after Ling Lan has already persisted through torture, spends a chapter helping her find a motivation for it: "I want to have the strength necessary to meet a strong man and have a strong baby." Isn't this ridiculous? Our anticipation for this young child is for the generation to come after her? Isn't this all putting the cart before the horse? I'm very willing to believe the novel gets clearer direction as the larger story unfolds, but I would not read a novel in anticipation of having a reason to read it.

Its world is built uncritically. The author chose a futuristic setting, without giving any thought to what the world will look like in 20 years, much less ten thousand. Ling Lan is impressed by the technology she sees when her mom goes shopping, and no part of what she sees couldn't be done today, if there was actually any reason to. Then she thinks its futuristic when her classmates use USB drives. But let's not dwell on that. Many other details are unclear. The "learning space" in her mind is described as if it is designed for actual babies, not just adult women who have been sent into the bodies of babies, yet this couldn't possibly be true. How does she even access it at first? When meeting the simulated characters like Number One, is she using a healthy version of her old body, or the body she'll grow up to have? The author doesn't say, although I would expect a protagonist to care about that sort of thing. "What's it like to walk around as a healthy person? What will I grow up to look like?" But we're in too much of a rush to develop her ass-kicking ability, for reasons unclear.

Her six-year-old classmates are also far too smart. Sure, they've been genetically enhanced, but if means they can keep up with a thirty-year-old, what's even the point of her being an older reincarnator, and not just another child like them? Her cheat can barely keep up with their natural minds, which cheapens the impact of a good cheat. I can only guess that the author felt the only alternative was to have her actually act like a mother to her classmates, and didn't want to do that. But you should build your premise around what you want your story to have.

Some people will doubtless like this series more than I did. Fans of Skyfire Avenue may want to give it a go, and it's been translated with care and attention. That's just not enough for me. <<less

This novel is superb! Its a female protagonist tag kind of novel and the protagonist is totally awesome. Not too OP and still defeated/in crisis at times. Although she had to hide her identity due to chain of events (mostly caused by her father), she still proves that despite being a woman, she can still stand equal/above man.

Just finish chapter 1443 last night and I wonder if there is continuation to the story cause the novel (raw version) has not been updated for almost a year I guess. Was it... more>> because it is already license? I hope someone can clarify this point. Totally recomended to those who likes to read strong female protagonist tag novel (im not into the cute and weak type female protagonist novel) <<less

Love this to the moon and back !!!! I've never waited for a novel to update as much as this one.

An OP female MC who is also smart? Like hello? I can tell you that this type of novel is very rare and thus very precious.

Love everything in this novel, from the world-building to the plot.

I love the MC and I will wait for the day when there will be novels that beat this one in my heart. 5 stars ain't giving it justice.

The start was good. Great even. But after reading 600 chapters, I sense that "Boss Lan" is just another self-insert power trip. He constantly comes up with these random, convenient ideas that just happen to work out.
Spoiler

In a capture the flag-esque tournament, the MC somehow becomes able to move their flag last minute. Maybe a dozen chapters before exploring a new planet with underwater creatures, the MC "happens" to run an underwater combat exercise. To justify how OP his team is, he beats them up. You read that right. Ling Lan beats people so they are all OP. It's as random as that.

[collapse]

Boss Lan never actually does anything to run their team. All he does is foist responsibility and pretend to be smart. And of course, because Ling Lan is the MC, no one ever questions it.

The story isn't even consistent. Early on,
Spoiler

instructor 5 possesses Ling Lan to save their life. Now, the author decided if they help Ling Lan then the learning system automatically self-destructs. Poor Li Yingjie gets some kind of PTSD from Ling Lan. There's a moment the author decides to make Ling Lan wipe his own mess - and then he backtracks the thought because it's too much of a bother. Apparently, joining Ling Lan's squad and leading one of 15 teams does not count as being a formal member, so he's not worth the bother.

[collapse]

I would rate it lower, but the beginning was good and it is long and decent enough to kill time with. But it is not good. Actually, I probably should have rated it a 2/5 because the author is really racist. He made a Japanese empire where everyone is brainwashed and half the words people say are "baka". I wish I was exaggerating there. While our MC is busy enacting widespread abuse on his soldiers and sending them out for human experimentation, we are expected to believe Japan is the evil country.

PS: I refuse to kill Ling Lan a she, because his gender is an overused (and stale) joke the author uses because they don't know how to write comedy. There are 3-4 jokes the author cycles as if we readers will forget seeing the same thing 5 chapters ago.

This novel is a sh*t show. Don't go in expecting much.

I really like the story.

Some faults: Sexism and antiLGBT (because of China's prevalent views, I guess), hardcore nationalism (screw Japan even half a century after the war, right?), 2d characters (except for a select few), word count inflation (a lot of the things can be said in less words).

Things I liked: The MC's sensibility, the fact she had to work for her strength.

Personal dislikes: The male love interest, which made me drop it despite me liking almost everything else. I'm actually kind of sad.

Interestingly enough, the MC is female and she isn't one of those female reincarnators/transmigrators that want to take vengeance on some random rich ass family, wowing people with her OP ass doctor skills or poison assassin shit. She doesn't have a tr*sh body either, something I see very much in those female MC novels...

You have no idea how refreshing it is to see this.

Read it, especially if you're sick of those "I've honed my OP professional skills for years and I will politically slaughter this family through subtle verbal manipulation... more>> and while seducing my cold ass husband" novels.

Edit: At some point, the author decided to make the Japanese say weeaboo things and the translator ended up translating that. This extends to several chapters. It sounds awful, please be wary of this. <<less

Very nice, though I feel sometimes we have better technology now, that the future in the story, but this was probably rewritten a while ago, so I can understand.

So this is a mix of technology and martial arts. It is very amusing, I can't wait for more updates. Qidian International has always had stable updates on the stories I've read. I'm so very happy that they've picked it up.

Anyways, she got this "system" which is super cute, and I love how there's not to much drama, it just subtle reminders,... more>> that not everything is perfect, and the MC needs to grow stronger.

We get to see her grow, it is very fun to read. I can't say much without spoiling it, so just read it. <<less

This would be really intresting novel if not for sexism, nationalism and constant MC abuse.

Female protag is super strong and action is 10000 years from now, you would think there would be at least some gender equality. Well, wrong. Only men can become head of the family and only men can ride mecha (less than 0, 1% mecha pilots are women). In world with martial arts, hidden abbilities, advance technology and every chemical stimulant you can imagine, except MC there isn't a woman in class of 50 best students. There's... more>> even part about how f**king child strength is thanks to strong dad and no matter how strong woman is, her child will be weak without good father genes. Also thanks to fact that MC pretends to be boy even if she does something awsome nobody will say "oh, maybe they can rival with man".

Next nationalism. Sometimes while reading you really think that's some propaganda from chinese goverment. Everyone just wants to devote his life for his country (Federation) and they don't see anything wrong with goverment no matter what. Multiple times you see children brainwashing (giving more points at school acceptance test for more gullible children) or warnings that gifted child seen by military won't end well and will be forcibly taken for training and to be experimented on, yet everyone just accepts it and does't say it should change. Of course Federation (author clearly says that's China) is best in the universe and it's enemy Twilight Empire (Japan) are mu*dering idiots who only know how to use Baka in every sentence and do kamikaze.

Okay, world is not ideal, but there's some good plot and classic op protagonist, so it should be fun, right? Like in every this kind of story protagonist thanks to hard work gets happy life to compensate for dog sh*t previous one? Nope, she had to live her whole last life in excruciating pain, but thanks to that now she can use higher pain tolerance to endure even more.

-Mother can't resign from father benefits, so she have to pretend to be a man whole life. Well, not only pretend, since she had 7 or something years old, she also had to start taking genetic supliments, so she wouldn't look like girl.

-Training since birth which includes countless death experience. Poison, being eaten alive by ants or other animals, parasite inside you for three days - MC repeats dying or at least experience pain untill she finally surives long enough to complete mission. Then she starts new one with the same effect. Sadistic trainer who leads every single student to madness. Also electroshocks for motivation.

-Even if MC gets stronger and achieve something, except one tournament there won't be satisfying moments, because she have to hide it to avoid military and getting her gender exposed. She pilots mecha to defeat 3 enemy elite mecha masters when she shouldn't even enter mecha at her age. And all she gets is 3 months in healing capsule because of injuries and friends asking her to teach them about mecha. No money, no fame, just internal bleeding.

-Things like when she ask her father in his recorded memories why he had to die and leave her and mother behind answers that he tried not to, so he has no regrets and she should go back to training.

Even if plot is good and builded world is pretty detailed, there just isn't enough satisfying moments to keep geting annoyed by all the things above. <<less

The writing most of the time is solid, but it completely falls apart during combat in the middle chapters.

For every paragraph of flow, the author will insist on it breaking it up by inserting a paragraph where some NPC will basically sit on the sidelines and mentally m*sturbate at whatever the main character happens to be doing.

At best, it's telling not showing, at worst, it's padding the word count with irreverent waffle.

Very disappointing, given that the earliest chapters did not have nearly as much of it.

Honestly, I really enjoyed it, which is why I've read nearly 1200 chapters. That said, I think early on it was 5/5, while now its been dropping to 3/5. I will say its strengths first.
    • Likable main character, you really want her to thrive, and her OPness is justified pretty well
    • Very good foreshadowing, little evidence of retconning, at least until recently
    • Interesting world/power system, I love how all these things of meshed together surprisingly well
    • A lot of worldbuilding, from military to politics
Now I will say the weaknesses:

    • Plot armour, around the main character and all her friends. Early on it was fine because there was no real danger. Now there is no real danger but they seem to never suffer actual losses.
    • Recently, a fair bit of retconning, or at least inconsistency. It is from how strong people are, to how many young people are also strong, to how much the strong families backgrounds matter.
    • Recently, there are a LOT of close calls that barely go their way. It makes the bad guys look incompetent, and feels like the world is bending around the main cast for things to go their way. It feels like the main cast plays by a different set of rules compared to everyone else, with them just skipping over things that other characters might take decades to get over. "X only had a 1% chance of succeeding! It is completely unprecedented!" Main Cast:"100% chance of succeeding it is."
Spoiler
    • Medical agents. They are basically the justification for all the BS the author wants to pull. Its fine that they have a good doctor, but different governments with entire medical organisations would also have discovered medicine better than what Li Shiyu can come up with by himself. Using those they could also create their own elite forces at least as good as what the main character has. If Little Four was helping Li Shiyu, it would be fine, but Li Shiyu is apparently just a unparalleled existence.
    • All these geniuses are getting caught up by randoms in the Lingtian Clan. It seems like even the military sucks at training people
    • Romance. Li Mulan has nearly killed himself several times, and without the new medical agents of their doctor, he would be dead. I can't really respect a ML like that. There is also Luo Lang/Xie Yi, which is a bit distasteful seeing LL hasn't shown any indication of swinging that way, and the way his character changes throughout the novel. Han Xuya and Qi Long is probably the best done, but Qi Long should be treated with a bit of respect with it. It seems like at some stage after he turned her down he is going to start respecting her and is going to chase her or some BS like that. 'You don't know what you have until its gone' is ok but when you are in 5 life or death situations per year between the both of them, maybe rushing ahead isn't the best idea. But they don't make Qi Long justfied in his decision, he kinda just avoids it.
    • Annoying things like "Only 1 in 10, 000, 000 can ever become a domain stage, and its even less than that going forward", and also how the records for the federation are so bad. Literally about 8 people in her crew have broken the federation record.
    • Then there is sh*t like this (ch1172) "They were not protesting the training because they were lazy. It was because they had actually experienced the ultimate level month training before. Besides Boss, only Qi Long managed to remain until the end. However, he still had to lie in Li Shiyu's medical department for three whole months before he could stand up again. Most of the participants couldn't even reach the halfway point. Even then, they had to lie down for more than a month before recovering. From then onwards, the ultimate level month training was seen as the doors of hell. Anyone who wanted to die could try it." Jeez, lucky they weren't attacked in those couple of months. Also odd how they have medicines that can basically raise the dead but that wasn't enough to heal them quickly. Like why write stuff like that, it just ruins immersion.
      [collapse]
Obviously it is pretty good in general, but more recently it is pretty average. I think its because the end goal is so clouded. There is a romance sub-plot, which I actually like aspects of, but it is progressing way too slow.

Short around 110 chapter review so I don't forget the few gripes I've had with it. Everything under the spoiler tag is negative so far. Full one might come when I catch up

Spoiler

One of the earliest annoyances I had was when the MC had to find a reason to get stronger, so her spiritual state would return to normal. And the MC said she wanted to have a baby like 10 times in one chapter, or was that 10 times in a few paragraphs even. Anyways, I don't mind setting having a kid as a goal, but there was no foreshadowing for it to be such a huge goal, not to mention how casually the way she would get a child was written, and what the kid should be like. She was bed-ridden for 20 something years before consuming reading materials from the internet or books, which is about all we know of her life on Earth, so just because "mentally" she's around 30 years old, shouldn't mean her most important goal is having a kid. Or maybe that's just something I cannot understand as a guy.

My most recent, and bigger annoyance however is the old Japanese vs Chinese BS that's in several novels that completely destroys the novel.

There's this one chapter where a battle is likened to Japanese invasion of Kwantung troops or smth, where it explained how some 20k soldiers from the Japanese managed to take over a region where the populace was several times their amount etc to explain something that just happened. After which, the MC said, and I quote: The current Ling Lan was only the Ling Lan of this life; the previous world did not concern her anymore.
I was honestly happy how the author chose to write a novel without including some personal-ish hate-bias.

A few chapters later though, or was it even the next one, and I quote: Perhaps the history of the invasion of China, so hated by the Chinese people, in her past world had left a deeply embedded wound within the hearts of all the impassioned descendants of China.

Like god damn you literally just said you wouldn't mind the previous world, and I'm not even going to comment on how a girl who lived basically her whole life in pain on a hospital bed could hold such intense patriotism. Blows my mind.

And now, at the moment I decided to write down these points, I found out that the big bad Twilight Empire, who were the cause of the MC's father's death, use several japanese words such as "Yoshi" or "Baka" for some weird reason that I cannot comprehend. Unless that was the translators fault, reading a fleet commander say "Baka" several times when something bad happens, is a joke. It's like the whole purpose is to degrade them. Oh, and btw, all the Empire mecha pilots have Japanese names. Yeah. So there's still some dumb Japanese vs Chinese bs in here. God I hope it doesn't show too much, because otherwise I'm fairly enjoying the novel.

[collapse]

Okay now we're just over 1000 chapters in. After the initial 100 chapters things started taking a turn for the better, since there wasn't more plain patriotic bs shoved down my throat. We also found out that the Federation is actually the Huaxia Federation or Chinese Federation. Seems like the author couldn't make up his mind about whether the MC's previous world has an influence or not before 100 chapters were done. Now that seems settled at least, as bad or good of a decision it was is up to the individual.

The story has me hooked and I've loved almost every single chapter thus far, but there's a reason I decided to make another review before I completely catch up to the translations.

The character development for the side characters is great, power-ups come in batches (you'll know if you read) but there's substance to it. The chemistry between characters is great and although the more characters appear the less so called screen time each one receives, I've enjoyed how the author is keeping the main focus on our MC.

A trope that's become prevalent though between 100 and 1000 chapters, is how when something negative happens to the MC, odds are she blames it on "becoming arrogant" due to this or that reason, and saying that it's great that she realized it before anything worse happens so she can learn from it. Well, since I called it a trope, indeed, it happens quite a few times in an obvious manner. Often enough that I felt irked by it.

And now the one serious negative part.
Spoiler

We are over a 1000 chapters in thus far, and there is no sign of our MC Ling Lan stopping the use of hormone suppressors to become a woman. This is written right after a chapter where her father Ling Xiao asks Ling Lan whether she really wants to quit the military or quit because of her promise to her mother.
After the tirade about her thoughts of wanting to stay as long as required until her friends can handle themselves (which is when I thought that she means never), Ling Xiao asks her what she wants, not what she wants to do for others. And she answers that she wants to stay in the military to be a soldier piloting mecha, moving around the galaxy and increasing her nation's influence. That same nation that tried to take her dead father's benefits from her because she was born a girl, that killed her father for 16 years, that was going to abandon her on planet Haijiao, and the same one that keeps being a danger to her now alive dad and her. Yeah, great nation there. Seems awfully convenient propaganda.
(... she wants to stay in the military...) Which for some reason obviously means she has to stay male in others minds. I mean, I thought the whole purpose was that she faked being male so she could get her dead father's benefits. Her father isn't dead anymore, and their father/son relationship is already out there for the public. There's no real reason to force it besides how she would explain it to her friends.
But anyways, Ling Lan asks what Ling Xiao would say to her mother, and he answers that "Women have no say over a man's decision..." after which he realizes he said it to her daughter. After that I thought something meaningful would happen but nope, it was turned into a joke and glossed over by Ling Xiao saying that Ling Lan shouldn't let her mother know of what he just said.

[collapse]

Honestly, the whole MC actually being a woman seems to just be a unique quirk to make the novel different, since she's acting as a guy. I can totally see her gender only being revealed in the final arc before the novel ends. <<less

May contain tiny spoilers that you wont understand anyway though.. This is my favorite novel ever! The female protagonist is not like one of those who fall in love super easily nor does she rely on men all the time. They rely on her. She also almost never smiles.. well that was because she was so beautiful when she smiles that people would be gay for her if she did.. Anyways! She is super OP and has a great personality! Cold yet warm. Arrogant yet doesn't like spotlight and hides... more>> her abilities. Though even if she tries to hide her awesomeness.. it never works anyway.. and she is super beautiful! Whether as a man or woman!

I also love the Male lead! Two-faced yet flawed. He fell in love with the female lead despite denying it since the female lead is forced to cross-dress for certain reasons. He fell for her but has many problems and hardships in his life. I like how he is possessive and hates how others get close to the female lead yet he isn't like those super terrible male leads who don't even let the female lead talk to other men. He also his always plotting ways to be closest to female lead... sometimes that is either comical or just heart-pounding.
Spoiler

He is also extremely good-looking! Well.. when he removes the mask he wears..

[collapse]

Sometimes I feel the role female and male leads are reversed in this novel. The male lead is the one who has his heart pound when our female lead is close. It truly is a great novel in characters, romance and plot! <<less

Evenwith a female protagonist, don't be expecting a sweet romance out of it. It's setting is in the military where they still uphold the strongest in material arts. FL is a cool, swag, handsome, domeneering (fe) male that unintentionally made a fanclub out of her strength and intelligence (she got a system in her head with is the god of virtual world and a high-class hacker).

This story is all about how she will conquer all the obstacles that she faced, fight scenes and bromance. Maybe there will be romance in... more>> the future, but currently she and the ML are still strangers so we're still at the strength development part. It's my cup of tea so I enjoyed it.

c1196 (edited based on current chapter I read)

It's not about solely on Ling Lan (FL) or the people around her anymore, now it's so much battles and war involved! So interesting on how she got the upperhand after her battles and eventually rise ranks along with her comrades! Romance might be near, because Li Lanfeng (ML)..

Spoiler

currently become her most trusted right hand man in her own army. He had also noticed his grown feelings towards her and actively pursue her even if he hasn't know of her real gender yet!

[collapse]

This story is so much fun for someone who enjoyed the anti-mainstream plot where ML's character development are also in the hands of the cool and charismatic FL as they continue to support each other in the front lines.

I've paid for so much just to read this book until I don't even know if it's already on my routine of daily expenses. Definitely recommend! <<less

Solid story about a gender-bended Mary Sue.

Strengths of the novel include Ling Lan taking care of her subordinates, and conversely her subordinates' endless trust in her. Like reading a yakuza or mafia novel about a young master growing up, earning everyone's trust, and finally making a name for himself and his family or clan. Also, in contrast to other reincarnation stories, this one actually begins in the womb and then progresses slowly, so you have a sense of watching Lin Lan grow up.

Weaknesses of the novel include some extremely drawn... more>> out scenes and arcs, Ling Lan's overpoweredness, the comparatively lame sci-fi setting (it's supposedly 10000 years in the future, but it feels like the technology hasn't even advanced by 100 years), and the author's lunacy of pulling real-world conflicts into the story (for an unfathomable reason, the space sector the protagonist lives in had to be the Chinese Federation, and to make matters worse, they're fighting the Twilight Empire, i.e. The antagonists are Japanese, and cartoon-idiotic ones at that). That last point is aggravating, but at least by chapter 263, the story hasn't given that conflict all that much screentime, so it was bearable. <<less
