One will to create oceans. One will to summon the mulberry fields.

One will to slaughter countless devils. One will to eradicate innumerable immortals.

Guys, what the problem with you all? This novel is perfect. Yes, maybe not that perfect. But you all need to know that Bai Xiaochun is not the Immortal, he is somenthing else. And this, is how this something else is born once again.

So Bai Xiaochun is stronger than Meng Hao, Su Ming and Wang Lin. And if is not, he'll be. It's who he is that is great. I did not expect that Bai Xiaochun would be that guy.

And who talked about reincarnation? Pleaseee... stop, don't say it.... It... more>> is not like what you think. Re read the novel.,

And a bit of spoiller of the last chapter, "Who is the madman who tried to get Lord Bai to sign a promissory note?" Who read ISST should know this "madman".

If I were to point out a flaw, I would say it would be the harem. It is not well developed. But this is typical of Er Gen. Thanks <<less

I never laughed so hard while reading something like now (thats why I came to write review) this novel is BEST chinese cultivation novel I have ever read. It has everything: Some Tense situations and drama while also a lot of comedy, Intensive long fights that makes you feel excited and also MC running around "HELP! Mu*der! He wants to kill me!! Help! Help! I shed blood for sect! Im junior patriarch so someone help me, he wants to kill me!" and such also a bit of romance

About a quarter of the way through so far and, while I have enjoyed it, the jokes are already starting to get a little stale.

One thing I need to make note of is what is up with Er Gen and animal sex? His only other work I've read so far is ISSTH and it was present in that novel as well. Bizarre to say the least.

Excellent translation by Deathblade, as usual.

Even though no one is gonna see this and there are countless other better and more well written thought out reviews, I still want to write a review. Anyone reading this will probably already know a will eternal is one of the classic xianxia novels that everyone recommends to read. As the genre suggests, a will eternal is a comedy. It pokes fun of the main character's motivations to be the strongest. Unlike the typical shounen xianxia/wuxia/xuanhuan underdog levelling up to be the strongest to either protect their loved... more>> ones or get revenge, our MC just wants to live lmao. He just wants to live forever (for now) and doesnt want to suffer. His WILL is so strong he studies like crazy. And he is hilarious too. His antics and ego and fear of dying makes such a ridiculous and funny character.

My only criticism is that there are only annoying females/s*upid a. Not a single one is likeable or worthy so far -_- hoping they dont fall in love with him cuz they are annoying as hell. Im waiting for u main love interest TAT <<less

Better than Any Xianxia. Bai Xiao Chan is afraid of death. He don't want to kill. When he did, his life is in danger or his loved ones are in danger.

I loved this novel so much.

This is actually the first of Er Gen that I finished, I already read a bit of renegade immortal (ch 500~) and issth ch 1654 but since I switched to reading Chinese, I have to read them all over again. Anyways as the first book that I completed, I really loved the MC, people call him immature and s*upid but he is just to my taste similar to meng hao, I loved the fact that he can cause a ruckus everywhere, the only problem I have with this novel is... more>> that the ending felt rushed,
Spoiler

ni fan didn't feel like a last boss and the final battle went way too quickly

[collapse]
it didn't have the excitement of a war or buildup like desolate era or issth. I always thought there would be 1 more world after this one. <<less

Er Gen is one of the best chinese fantasy author, and his I Shall Seal The Heavens is a masterpiece of the genre. Is A Will Eternal at the same level ?

As often with Er Gen, while the first impression of the story is one of lightness and comedy, it evolves progressively to something far more complex, with numerous hints at the various secrets and subplots of the setting, with a depth than will often take you by surprise and sometimes the feeling of "how could I not see that... more>> coming ?". There are not as many emotional happenstances as in the author's previous books, replaced with good moments of comedy which will bring the "Benny Hill Theme" to your mind, if you see what I mean. There is a bit of a problem with this new writing style here, for in the late mid part of the story, before the great epic crescendo of the last arc, the comedic mechanism used and reused by the writer grow a tad repetitive, which lowers the reading pleasure. Still, the tale remains great, right to the epic and emotional finale. On a side note, while the novel takes place in the same "Er Gen verse" as his other works, there are only few ties with them, found only toward the very last part, and not knowing what they reference to will not hamper the new reader.

Bai Xiaochu is a very good main character, outwardly a coward cultivating because of his fear of death, but with a solid core of principles, courage and friendship. His mad scientist side is especially great, as well as his berserker/ruthless fighter one. His only bad traits are a tendency to whine and present himself as a victim, which, while funny, can be irritating after a while.

The side cast is where the author truly shines here. While there are a share of temporary extras, most of the important characters of the different arcs tend to remain after, not constantly, but recurring at judicious intervals. The various love interests, Uncle Li, Son Que, Big Fatty and numerous others are never left behind, evolving both in power and personality along the protagonist. A tndhe demises of some of the cast, while few, is always brought with some emotion. The antagonists are also great, sometimes turning into allies, shallow only at rare times, always dying at the good moments and with well-defined personalities and goals in their own right.

The romance side took a dive from the previous novel. The interest of the main character is here divided between five women, and while they are well written characters with interesting traits and good personnalities, even the addition of the comedic element cannot bring this side of the book higher than above average.

The translation is simply one of the best there is in the field. Deathblade, with the assistance of his wife and in communication with Ergen himself, produces a work of top quality. No typos, no mistakes, he transcribes the moods and humor of the original novel perfectly. The only sad part is that he will likely not be able to translate this author anymore, as the next books will be translated by Webnovel.

In conclusion, while it does not reach the same level as Er Gen's previous works, A Will Eternal is still a great novel, with fine action and comedic elements, and if you can read past some of the more repetitive mid-segments and irritative sides of the protagonist, you're sure to have a fine time. My final verdict is a 8, 5 out of 10.

P.S: Thank to Er Gen, Deathblade and Madam Deathblade for bringing this great novel to us. <<less

I love this novel as much as ISSTH. Bai xiao Chun was hilarious to the bone. The other characters pale in comparison. It was fun read from start till the end. Thanks to DB for the awesome translation and Er Gen for writing a xanxia master piece.

Note: I have not read any of Er Gen's work (that includes ISSTH only c50 I got bored) on the writing of this review

The start is nice. It is full of comedy and you just want to keep reading it. The romance is not that good nor is it bad but just a little bit and it will be bad. The author likes to kill minor/side characters off screen and forgotten. Overall this is a really good read my only regret is that the way the author handles some of... more>> the major characters. <<less

The best way to describe this story is a MC fumbling his way to OP greatness. While the story at first is hilarious because of his antics it soon gets redundant and stale. This gets worse with the fact that the core character changes drastically over time in one area but doesn't in another. For example to his core he is a total coward near the end of the story a terrible event takes place that causes him to becomes a major risk taker. The problem with this is that... more>> his thought process doesn't change he's still dumping in his pants in his head. While this can be funny for the most part it's not because we have heard it through out the series till now.

I recommend reading the first 4 books after that it's redundant. <<less

This is by no mean a perfect novel, yet one of the most perfect here on novelupdates, I give it 5 stars but in fact it's 4.5 and roughed up to 5 stars.

About the novel itself, it's super hilarious but also super serious when needed, it's the "middle" which suitable for many instead of best for a few.

About the rating, while the overall rating is about right, those that rate 1 are either "not normal", trolling, envy or just simply being a son of a sub... Let's skip those who... more>> rate 2, those who rate 3 are those unfortunately and strangely incompatible or just being too harsh or only loyal to their own genre which in some cases should be call fetish. Finally, 4 and 5 are most normal rating [well, even I wanted to lower my rating to 4 at some point]

PS: as many readers commented, the later half's getting down, which's the reason I wanted to lower my rating but can't with all those trolling rates. It's most likely because the author got too much pressure because this's one of the best C-novel [of all time? it did appear so on half of those chinese sites]. So in the end, it's 5 the first half and 4 the second, overall it's 4.5.

i do hope more novels like this being translated here. <<less

This novel has been one of the most enjoyable reads I've come across in the genre. It has one of the most memorable MCs out there and steers clear of most wuxia cliches in some of the most amusing ways possible. The only problem is that like pretty much every other Chinese novel I've read the author has no idea how to write a good ending. The novel is 5/5 until the last arc and it quickly spirals down to the godawful ending. It's as if after hitting 1000 chapters... more>> the author couldn't decide if he wanted to end the story or continue for another thousand.

Spoiler

Book 7 introduces a whole new world filled with opportunity and for a while I was pretty hopeful but then the story devolves onto a glorified training montage for the final battle topped with a nonsensical ending. The final boss was kinda dumb. The final battle was... meh. The conclusion was s*upid. Pretty much the only good thing about the ending was the nod to ISSH in the epilogue

Do not read this if you haven't read "I shall seal the heavens (issth) "!!!

First of all, on wuxiaworld's site this novel is cut into 7 books so I'm going to talk as such.

So, it's completed now. Have to say the story gets better from book 2 and overall it's pretty good, while the telling isn't that great at times. The different parts of the novel follow a very similar setting which gets repetitive, but isn't that bad if you manage to not pay attention to it.

Book 1 is in... more>> my opinion very boring, as there the "cause disaster -> solve it -> cause another one -> etc" cycle repeats a lot with humor that is trying to be so over the top that its actually boring. Also the MC fears death more than anything and this is FAR over the top too. There are couple important events here that stand out as clearly better reads though, which are the only reason I managed to make it through.

Though as I already said, it gets better on book 2 and keeps up that quality with some downs and ups until the ending of book 6, which is absolutely amazing and left me crying, because of the intensity of the feelings.

After that though... If at this point you thought the novel was okay, but nothing special, I suggest you drop it, as it will get pretty much worse, all of the old side characters get pretty much shafted as main characters power levels start going absolutely insane, and the new ones that get introduced didn't wake any real feelings, at least in me.

As the power level rises to the insane levels, fights turn into sluggish messes, where one paragraph is worth a second at worst and rather than the interesting techniques they used before in all of the fights, they turn into super powerful moves that they simply can unleash because high cultivation, and a dozen final super secret moves to help survive in the worst situations, so even they become really boring to read through.

Also if you have not read issth, also put this on hiatus after finishing book 6 and read that or you will miss a lot of stuff during the last 100~chapters (Book 7 spans from 1029-1315, so technically you could keep reading until something like 1209, which is an okay spot to stop too, but I'd suggest leaving the whole book until you can read it). I made this mistake and there were chapters that I could essentially skip, because they were just one big reference to what happened in issth.

I originally rated this at 3/5 back when I was around 140 chapters, just because I couldn't rate it higher, and didn't so early want to rate it lower, as it was essentially less than 10% of the novel. Now I'm in reversed situation, the novel is good enough to be 3 or more, but as the first book and last book were clearly below the level of the ones in the middle, and as the most important part tends to be the beginning and end of the story, I cannot rate this over 3 either. <<less

My Rating 5 out of 5!

This novel is awesome, also my current favorite. The MC is full of personality and the comedy will make you laughing out loud. The story line is almost the same as other Xanxia novels. However, the story theme is too serious like Reverend Immortal which I don't like. As Er Gen said, you can read it light hearted. The whole theme is mixed with comedy, plot and schemes. Before this novel, ISSTH was my top favorite but AWE has taken over, now.

A great story, the second one of Er Gen I have read. But it does have some annoying problems, particularly the repetitiveness of some stuff. For example for some reason Er Gen uses this phrase "Although all of this takes a bit of time to describe, it actually happened in only a split second!" or a slight variation of it in every other fight. I dont know why but after 600 chapters reading this phrase pisses me off.

Another repetitive thing that happens is when Bai Xiaochun gets famous after becoming... more>> part of something new, a sect/group/faction. The getting famous quickly after being a newbie is nothing new, that's the bread and bread of MCs. But what he does after being famous is repetitive.
Spoiler

he likes to walk around the area where he got famous to get people to praise him. And then he does it excessively and annoys everyone. Seriously it happen like 7 times, most likely more.

This novel was likeable to say the least, the protagonist's Character was a tad bit shameless, which I loved. The Mc's ability to create disastrous situations out of nowhere was a nice move on the authors part. Can't say anything about the translation quality, since I was impatient and decided to MTL the rest.

The rest of the novel went downhill, in my opinion starting from the New world setting where they left the Heavenspan world. The MC just started Lvl-ing up too fast, and the number of hillarious scenes started to diminish, the novel just seemed too rushed at the End.

Overall, it was a great read. Woud've been my favourite one if it ended just in the Wilderness Arc.

Its been so long since I've laughed so hard!!!!!! OH MAN! The moment the phoenix went for the chicken and magpies I almost died laughing!

If your looking for a cultivation story with tons of laughs and misunderstandings I highly recommend this. Especially if your a reader whose looking for more enjoyment than seriousness in a story.

OK now for the real review in my opinion the MC's views as a cultivator are a bit distorted I mean he's the type who'd rather win a fight by using cunning and shameless plots... more>> even though he could pretty overpower them with one blow without much effort.

I mean deciding to become a cultivator even though his views are like"I cultivate to become immortal and never die" and "Violence is wrong so i'll just drug them instead" I mean seriously why'd you even become a cultivator where the law of the jungle applies. <<less
