I've been reading this for like a week straight, and it's pretty good. Some people in the reviews seem to have an irrational hatred of it? But I really don't think it's that bad. The plot gets pretty good, with some stuff being revealed right away while other stuff surprised me; it's still interesting enough for me to want more. The author has a habit of spoiling a lot of the novel herself which is a little frustrating, but it kind of fits into her writing style. The interesting thing... more>> isn't finding out the ending but the journey along the way, though there are still some surprises.

While this has a lot of action, it's also slow going. It goes through an entire life from birth until mid-twenties (from where I've read) and it doesn't do it quickly. Plot holes are usually explained much later, so if something frustrates you I personally recommend you just keep reading. Or at least don't complain about it until you read the whole series. The pov is mostly limited to what the MC knows, and at first she's basically a very sheltered kid who doesn't know much about the world, so you'll find out stuff as she does or later. (In her first life, because she's been deathly ill for her whole life, and in her second because of an overprotective mother and the very real fear of assassination attempts). MC is oblivious in some ways and cunning in others, at first a little naive and later ruthless, doesn't consider herself a good person but isn't too much of a bad one. But for her and her comrades' survival she'll do anything. She's very op but still manages to deal with some interesting challenges and problems, and not every fight is a simple beat down.

Do not read this for romance, it's extreme slow burn. I think you don't even meet the love interest until 100+ chapters in? And he disappears for a while after that. The science behind this isn't that great. There are four basic types of power: the mechas the characters operate that are controlled by extremely quick hand movements, or hand skills; spiritual energy, physical martial arts, and the power to hack into the virtual world, which have the same power structure. I feel like these systems and their levels, skills, ect. Are reasonable, but require the suspension of disbelief. As Ling Lan is masquerading as a boy in a misogynist society she doesn't interact with too many women, especially when she goes to an all-boys high school, though once she finishes that she meets more. While they are as a whole too romance obsessed I think they're mostly strong characters. Child abuse is mentioned off-handedly and isn't taken too seriously.

The country is a futuristic China, and their most prominent enemy is a thinly disguised Japanese empire. Later on you'll meet countries that are just futuristic versions of countries now. The whole world is unquestionably military based and MC acknowledges this but doesn't really have a choice but to participate. With how far I've read I can't really tell how much of it is for the story and how much of it is the author's own nationalist views. I don't think the message here is "the military is awesome and good!" though.

All around, while it does have its drawbacks, this has a good plot, a variety of good characters, lots of different action scenes, and a (at least, to me) likable main character, and I recommend it. <<less

It's been so long since I discovered this novel at first I was hesitant to read it or not but one day I decided to read it why not give it a try ?! I wasn't someone to like sci-fi so I thought this one might be same as other (like this genre never made me feel excited to read) but I still dropped it after reading like 40 chapters as the translation chapters were slow updating later on I remembered it and was like let's see if there's... more>> any new updated Ch. I returned to it and read till 100 chapter I'll not lie I dropped it AGAIN bcz I felt it's boring and the plot was slow progressing, well it took me I think another year to finally decide to give it a try (after reading so many web novels/ light novels I come to understand that not all authors write same way and if any of you watched Naruto you'll think that at first the story was boring the progress too but latter on the plot became something really good I thought it same what if by dropping this novel will I miss something good to read ?? And so searched it again as I forgot the name but thank God I found it again lol) this time I read more than 200 chapters and yeah I got hooked on it 😊 and yes I've used MTL to read most chapters and still understood the story, the plot lol now I only stop reading bcz the author is on hiatus that's all and for all the negative comments I saw most didn't past 300chapter and for the first hundreds of Ch is only building the characters and the plot behind everything.

Spoiler

I saw some who say that the author use Japon and USA and references to the empires she wrote about but just to tell you THERE'S SOME CHAPTERs where's the FL say herself it's a WAR, that even the vilian for them are the heroes for others but bcz it's a war everyone fighting I mean this is nothing to take too personal if we come to read about history none of the above were SAINTS most countries were dragged into the war too and you judging just bcz she's Chinese plus even at one point in the story the FL began to ask if the federation are really white knight or not (I don't defend anyone here I'm only trying to talk senses)

[collapse]

Ik I wrote a lot but just one last thing if you dropped the story after reading some 1000 or more chapters then you missed the best parts bcz many of the reviews here saying the story have many flaws like the plot is only progressing not being explained like for the AI (the story was in the future that's true but this world is still not progressed to the point they have AI like little four and so)

Anyway if you took time to read this then thank you XD

My first review:

Okay I think I should write my review about this novel bcz I read some negative reviews I just want to explain something never judge a book by it's cover it's too for novels don't judge them by just 100 Ch or 10 Ch as not every author have write the same way like others.

1_ the story well developed (for a sci-fi with cultivation system it's really well built at least my opinion)

2_ even though there's many characters but everyone of them has it's role that without them the plot while not progress in the best way.

3_ the system isn't like some other CN

4_ the pro is my favourite till now she's not strong but not weak still it makes you cry with her and happy for her too.

Finally I recommend this one the most as I read till the last chapter published in the raw I know that it takes more than 200ch to fall for the story.

Just give it a shot it's really good <<less

I really liked the story.

The MC is rational and analytical, but at the same time not emotionless. Due to th econtrast of her inner thoughts and her 'established' persona it stays humorous throughout the story I've read so far. The cultivation system and technical terms/aspects may not be thoroughly researched or developed but that does not hinder the storys progress and personally did not lessen my enjoyment of it.

Sadly, as of my last information, there will be no 'freely' accessible new chapters of this novel unless one creates an account... more>> for Qidian International, but hope dies last. <<less

This story is definitely one of the most interesting I've read so far. Maybe because its future setting was exactly how I imagined it will be. I love Ling Lan, his friends, classmates and parents. Very entertaining.

It's a good read if yoju're not so detail oriented. (You've been warned)

I suggest, just eat what's shoved in your mouth and don't look for more to chew on and you will like it better.

Spoiler

MC has shallow goal.

MC does not know how to use her resources.

MC is supposed to be mentally matured and as an invalid in her past life you'd think she'd want to live meaningfully this time but meh.

Too few mention of their family circumstances, in an economic, structural and societal stand point. Like they are supposed to be influencial but they seem to not know anyone other than their family and servants.

I love the novel so far, the only thing that really annoys me is that the character fluctuates from cautious to careless, from observant & smart to s*upid the very next chapter. It's quite frustrating, but I will power through and read on!

Fun all around. The protagonist isn't considered a waste by everyone, despite hiding her powers. There's some well defined motivations for the MC, beyond defeating a specific antagonist or becoming powerful/living forever. I do feel that the romance was a little too... obvious, when it did show up, but whatever, it hasn't been that big of a deal so far and hasn't noticeably messed with the characterization.

I also like the translator notes a couple of times making fun of cultural biases like how being patriotic is fine unless you're the... more>> enemy, in which case it's "brainwashing". <<less

A really good read, usually I don't like Xianxia, but in this novel it's totally acceptable.

The MC is not a prick, even if she don't have any real objective, at least she's not someone who see all relationship as pro ans con (even if she give this impression). This change from all these MC who are hellbent on revenge.
Moreover the part about cultivation is not that important, the novel just explain what are the classification of power which is like in cultivation novel, but here it's not like "I... more>> sit, I meditate and tadam! I get a power up!". They really explain how they gain power, mainly physical strenght but also mental strenght. The MC doesn't gain power who know how, it's by her own effort and it's really well explained.

When we talk about the characters, their development is really good and we follow most of them since childhood. They are not just two-faced characters, they have a real depth. Even if some of them disapear quickly, they are really attaching.
About world building, it's also really interesting, even if we just know place where the MC goes, it's really well explained, and have a real living feeling.

So overall, a really good read and I recommend it even if you don't like Xianxia ! (and as of now, there's NO romance !). Without even saying talking about the insane release rate of the translator who does a really good job... <<less

I like how everything was described in detail, sometimes a bit too much, but the daily update makes up for it perfectly. Even though the MC is still a child even after 152 eps, I don't feel bored at all.

Anyway, I guess it's just preference and all, but this story doesn't deserve 2 star rating, like at all. I'm writing the comment to sorta give it the justice it deserves.

giving my proper review this time ?

Let me start why I'm giving this a 5 star.

First of all the setting is very interesting which got me hooked for months. Secondly, I'm currently waiting when the MC's secret will be revealed. Thirdly, I'm waiting for the MC and ML to meet in "person" and develop their feelings. There are also somethings that made me kinda lost my feelings for the story. I guess it lacks a lot of reality, too much fiction, like MC's OPness is at its max level, the... more>> MC's halo is definitely unbeatable. <<less

This is a cultivation novel... with mechas. So people steer mechas - with horrible user interface, so button pushing and hand speeds are somehow important - but people still cultivate as well. So you get a little bit of everything: fights with mechas, fights without mechas, in real world, in virtual world, in imaginary world (mindscape), on planets and in space... also it's not just about fighting but also has a politics/strategy element to it.

However the strengths of the novel are also its weakness. The novel tries to do... more>> too much so it's falling apart at the seams. You have to ignore plot holes the size of universes. Sometimes its confusing which plane the novel is currently on (real or virtual, since virtual world looks same as real world and people sometimes can die for real in it, too).

The entire novel follows a single larger plot (mysterious enemy that tries to kill MC's family). It's quite entertaining to read, but still. It stretches on for too long so the way the plot is resolved in the end is none too satisfying.

If you want to read it for the gender bender, it's not really worth it... MC is essentially male and your typical OP MC with more cheats than you can count. And any ability the system does not provide, it's handled by his team members (basically "The Mech Touch" MC is one of MC's team members here) or his family.

Don't expect any kind of realism... physics just don't make any sense, et cetera. <<less

Honestly, it wouldn't be fair to give too low of a score since I barely passed 10 chapters, so I put 3, my real score is 2..

The start feels a bit bland to me, it's boring, her funny but not funny inner monologues and her talk with the system feels really boring to me, it feels like I'm reading a wattpad novel. I think each chapter is too long and filled with unnecessary fillers just to make it longer. There's nothing more I could say since I didn't read much.... more>> I couldn't go through the chapters without yawning. <<less

Its not bad. It's a bit nationlist (for obvious reasons when you start reading it, because some countries are clearly Japan/US even if the names aren't the same), but its fine and tolerable. Because at least, its not overtly racist like some other nationalistic military ones.

Its not bad, but some of the characters don't really develop much over time. Only few of the characters (especially the males) get some character development. The females (except the MC) don't really have much going on.

Action's not bad.

The settings also aren't bad, but you... more>> have to read and watch the world with a huge suspension of disbelief (like how humans can think faster than robots, or how for a future with FTL speed and tech, females are inferior to males).

Be warned, this series has been on hiatus for almost 2 years, so its likely to never be finished. <<less

It's a poor story. read if you want a fastgrowing MC with a plot that barely makes sense. it's fun for the opness, but not much more... I mean, it is hard to find a mecha story where a tranquilizer dart is considered "new and advanced technology", but still...

the first problem is the lack of logic, a lot of basic mistakes are made, like a 6-year old small kid punching an adult in the face, it keeps happening, and is kinda funny for how s*upid you have to be to... more>> not see the fact that a 6 year old is small...

second problem, for me then, is that there are -again- subtle signs of racism hidden in the story. actually, not that subtle, since the "enemy" of the "federation" 10000 years in the future is the "twilight empire" who, for no reason, love saying "baka" in every frickin sentence, if that doesnt make it obvious, it is once again japanese vs chinese, so overdone and tiring, really annoying as f*ck!

(btw, she lives in a "chinese" federation that happens to be chinese and still speak chinese without any change in their language, making them seem quite ret*rded, as language is something that evolves along with the people, so if the language didn't change in 10000 years, I'm sorry to say....)

Other than that the author often forgets details, and then randomly changes them, which is annoying as well, so basically, only read of you like a story where the MC beats all adults by 10 years old at chapter 200something, but still somehow manages to go on for 1000's of chapters with random enemies and random explanations for their existence...

also, but this is more of a personal hang-up with the translation, they constantly make her call out "daddy" and "mummy" even at 16 years old, and honestly, "daddy" has been ruined for me by pron, so it's incredibly uncomfortable to read. especially since at 16, no girl will go "daddy" unless they need something. <<less

Rated 1 star partly to balance out the undeserved 5 stars and partly because this entire series is a scam. Since the scammy part are spoilery, I am going to talk about other stuff first.

First of all, most the other non-scammy problems is already stated by detoxangels12 which I think is pretty spot on. Go and read his post about why this series kind of sucks as well. My added two cents to all this is that the author is too fixated on "Tyrannical characters". The power crazy suckers that... more>> think the world revolves around 'strength'.

Now, there is already an entire group of people talking about the scam that is the MC's gender but I'm going to ignore that due to the lack of a Romance tag. This is NOT the scam I am talking about.

The scam I am referring to is the general plot. Referring to the genres that is written here as of this post, we have "Martial Arts, Mecha, Sci-fi". Nowhere does it say Xianxia, Wuxia or Fantasy but we get more of this instead of standard Gundam action. Please note that there WILL be spoilers from here on as I have no way of pointing out my problems with this series without them.

Again, this is not Xianxia, Wuxia or Fantasy.
Yet the MC gets magical ice "domain" powers and can turn herself into mist. Also Ice "fire" if that makes any sense.

We have the ML, who gets to summon a scythe with. hack Data Drain powers.

We have a guy with split personality "Shadow clones" (or Kage Bunshin no Jutsu as Naruto fans would call it) Of course, all of these 'clones' are real.

And we have a bunch of people trying to be (Or successfully become) Kingdom Hearts Xehanort... that is, hijacking someone's body and steal their powers and identity after legit dying. This kills off any "potential suspense" since dead people can magically come back to life.

Then there is the 'computer entity' which appeared from Ch 1. Little Four. This guy is a godlike A.I. companion who has feelings. Feelings? Fine. Believable. Yet this guy is bound by the Wuxia/Xianxia 'rules of growth and recovery' which includes falling into a coma (wtf) and getting Norted. Seriously. A Fkin AI. In a coma.

A literal coma. Not an "Error 404 everything crashed please reboot" coma but an actual "human coma" where the other follower AI can "cheer on him to wake him up"

Also his very existence turned every potential "Watchdog hacking sequence befitting of a Sci Fi series" into a singular "lol job done." sentence. I should also probably mention that "hacking" is now also a Wuxia/Xianxia -ish power instead of well... hacking.

And the late series mechas work exactly like they shouldn't as well. Fantassyy poweerrrss <<less

I can honestly say this is one of the better online novels out there. The MC is the right amount of overpowered yet realistic to make it an entertaining read. (Plus it has MECHS!!)

The plot twists and new encounters work together to keep me guessing as to what happens next. Plus all the side characters have their own personalities meaning I actually make an effort to remember their names.

If you want a great read about a girl showing just how bamf she is at combat and mecha piloting this... more>> is the novel for you. <<less

I liked the novel for the first 100 chapters or so due to it's nice pacing, world building and character exploration (mc) and side characters. But recently it has taken a turn I don't like. MC has become more and more like those ruthless Wuxia/Xianxia mc's who just stomps everyone and everything. I really liked her character in the beginning but it has changed. Not only the MC, but the general setting, the instructors lines of thoughts, all have become too much like those cliche Wuxia/Xianxia battle wn's. I'll update... more>> this review once we're further down the line. <<less

This story is unique I would give it that.

Its almost unheard of, to have a girl reincarnated and cross dressing considering how Asia is famous for their male cross dressing books.

Just the uniqueness alone had me vigorously reading this.

... more>> But is this story actually good?

My answer may shock you.

Not really.

The beginning was good but I can't help but notice how very slow it was with having the MC grow into childhood.

This story has a serious pacing problem.

It spent 20 chapters just so that the main female becomes old enough (still a child, by the way) to take the test to become a soldier.

It spent almost 10 chapters on one event that could easily be summoned up in 3 or 4 chapters.

Suddenly there are multiple people living in her head who train her.

Wait. What!?

Then my last complaint is how the story forces you to read each chapter carefully because if you miss one chapter due to being bored, you won't know what on Earth is going on.

I hope there are several people out there that can take off their 'fresh and unique story' glasses to see what I see. <<less
