If you look at the reviews here, there are many people disappointed with this series. I won't say that I can't understand them but for those intending to read this novel, you should realize that the focus is on the interpersonal relationships within a feudal society.

A lot of this story revolves around politics, relationships and world building. Of course there is also adventuring, fighting and the usual template stuff of Isekai novels but those don't play a major part in this story.

Some may be turned off by that but in... more>> the end it is a novel that doesn't follow the mainstream template setup of such kinds of novels and thus has its interesting parts.

The authors writing is yet another beast. Even for me, as translator, there are many instances where I could kick him in the ass for his repetitive and plain way of writing. But then again I usually remember that this is a web novel and accept it as part of the flow. ^^ If you asked me if I like this series, it'd be a yes. If you asked me if this was one of my favorites, it'd likely be a no. All being said and done, it is still a good read.

Don't get too distracted by reviews and check it out yourself. Stories are a matter of subjective view in the end anyways. :) Cheers,

Pointless reincarnated MC which has no benefit to the plot. (-1)
MC not even remotely acting mature despite having the base mentality of a 25 year old. (-1)
Effortless progression to becoming overpowered without any obstacles then harem attainment without any real reason to them falling for the MC. (-1)
Story just possessing too much repeated information filling up major chunks of chapters for no reason. (-1)

I really have no clue how the author was trying to tell this story for the most part. There's heavy... more>> repetition in each chapter without much of anything progressing along at a regular and/ or steady pace either. Oh, not to mention that in a certain section of chapters there isn't even a single mention of two heroines tagging along yet when they arrive at the major city they're instantly there as if they tagged along the entire time? <<less

The author likes to retold the same information more than twice or more, it was pointless to read each chapter thoroughly. The character disposition and characteristic not being clear because the conversations between characters were lacking, the story progress by the MC's explanation and reminisce, currently read till ch 27. Maybe will drop this wn.

Don't read this. The MC is lead by the nose by Royalty and Nobles in the entire series. And he basically bends over and takes it. This is all about boring s*upid politics! He keeps coming up with the same excuse repeatedly "I don't have any experience" or "If I escaped to a different Kingdom I wouldn't know anything about it" and I'm like 'Dude you have all that power and yet...'

I don't even understand his abilities! The action is just badly written I always have to skim or... more>> skip through it. His OP has no purpose and it's just there. Turns out everyone knows all his OP Abilities and thus they monopolize him.

As for the Romance: It's just another Harem seeking MC.
Spoiler

Basically all these b*tches are spoiled lol. At first the Main Heroine Ina had good potential but then just loses her purpose in the story and is just another side character blindly fallowing him. I hate how all his wives said "I should introduce myself to father in law." I'm like "bit*h didn't you just hear what Erwin said? They abandon him! He has no parents or family and his situation with them are bad right now.. yet your this conceited."

[collapse]

It really pisses me off because Ina had amazing potential.

He's only 12 years old and his Patron are already trying to get a hold of his future kids who aren't even born yet! WTF if I were him I'd run away right now. Despite him saying he wants to live a life freely he's still there.

Spoiler

Even all the $ he's gotten was manipulated by the King. The King gave him so much money for his "Work". Good thing right? Wrong. He gave him so much money so he would have no choice but to spend it to develop more territory for the Kingdom.

[collapse]

His actions are just too hypocritical. <<less

I know I am going against the grain posting this, but I love this story. It is VERY entertaining and fun to read. MC is smart and not a douche bag, pu*sy like most MC's. It is not everyone's cup of tea, but if you enjoyed Mushoku Tensei, then you will enjoy this. It has that kind of feel, even tho the stories differ in many many ways. It is just the feeling of it, not the plot line itself. Give it a read and find out for yourself.

This novel does NOT have romance, action, ecci or comedy. All marriages are political and arranged. MC marries a bunch of girls because influential people just sent him the girls or said he should. MC: "oh, I guess the girl will be in trouble, I have to marry her". There is very little interaction between MC and his wives. By chapter 71 there is 1 kissing scene and 1 "walking into the bath where the naked girl is" scene. This is really just pathetic if the novel wants to say... more>> it's a "romance and ecci".

Second biggest problem in this novel is that it lacks any kind of emotion at all! Even the moments that suppose to be emotional just feel super dry. When MC had his first date with his first wife, it turned into a business talk with the jewelry shop sales clerk and some political talk. When his first wife was suppose to be bonding with the second and third, it was so boring, anticlimactic and unemotional, I cannot even describe it. The bottom line out of the bonding was that the first wife despite of being political marriage might actually have some feelings for MC, which is not even stated in a strong way, but more like hinted. All characters are super dry and there is no connection at all. This also applies to the so called "comedy" part. I maybe giggled twice and that was about it. The humor is dry and s*upid and not funny at all. There is nothing here that can be classified as comedy.

Now, the biggest problem is that this novel is just endless amount of talking. Even when there suppose to be action, there are 2 sentences of action and then 10 paragraphs of freaking dialog that gives you trivia. In the middle of an intense situation characters just casually walk and chat with each other about women, politics, or some other stuff that not related at the moment at all. Even if you try to feel any sort of tension, it really is impossible because of the idle chatter and poor writing.

Also, there are endless recaps upon recaps, and even the recaps have recaps! You keep reading the same sh*t again and again and again. And then you read about stuff you don't care about. All dialog is disjoint and some trivia is always mixed in. The style of all dialogs are like this:
- The character starts saying something
- What he is saying is not showin
- MC in his head says "in summary he said this", and then recaps. It gets really annoying.

The story itself is actually good, but all the annoying stuff and poor writing makes it boring and hard to read. <<less

It was interesting in the beginning but later on, there's information dump in every chapter. It gets even worse because it's the same damn information. The story gets rehashed every (or every other) chapter. Like clam said, the story is pretty monotone and dull. The summary shows great potential but the product itself is lacking. Nonetheless, I still want to thank the translator for his/her dedicated work.

The quality in this novel slowly got worse and worse and all I could see was a bunch of text. Random plot twists are thrown in aswell for no apprent reason. The MC seems s*upid as times in his decision making capabilities. If you are going to read this novel; don't bother.

Spoiler

The author then decides to put elements of cheating at chapter 76, straight after his wedding.

[collapse]
It's a waste of time and is better to find something else.

This novel has cheating and not the isekai type.

Spoiler

He kills his brother and prefer to have s*x with his widow who has 2 KIDS rather than his 5 wives! He has 5 amazing wives and chooses the single mother of a brother that tried to assassinate him. Seeing how this novel plays out, the kids will obviously try get revenge on him. I guess he seems like a motherf**er to them.

In short: Boring.

The author writes a lot about political happenings with the nobles, which is normally fine but a lot of the information ends up either never being useful to the story or gets repeated in nearly every chapter. Dialog in this story tends to be interrupted with blocks of text by the narrator to explain things, which makes you wonder why the author didn't just have the characters talk instead.

The author, like typical bad Japanese WN writers, ends up rehashing well known annoying tropes.

  • Japanese is the language of the new world (written and spoken) but everything else is western.
  • Text padding by repeating the same thing over and over.
  • The MC just has to find soy sauce, miso, sea food, and rice because he is Japanese.
  • School Arc.
  • "I'm not a lolicon" defense.
  • Lazy convenience. Stuff just happens with no natural lead up.
Spoiler

The author spends a lot of time having the MC hide his identity and power because it would be bad -- only to change their mind later in the story. Everyone apparently knows his is a mage, a powerful one too. He went to another town to hide his identity only to expose it blatantly, but everyone already knew and doesn't care.

[collapse]

Side note: English translation of the first group is a rough read. I later discovered that the current translation group edited the first to be much more readable, but apparently chapter 28 of the first group is chapter 24 of the current group??? <<less

Terribly written.

The premise is just like any Isekai web novel out there, mostly self-strengthening, exploring the world, adventuring, magics & swords, creating stuff stuff from knowledge of the MC's previous world, etc. Nothing new here, nothing to complain about. Interesting even, for the most part. The political intrigue and drama COULD be interesting, if only this author have have heard of something called editing.

Because this novel needs that. Badly.

Here's why: The style of writing is (mostly) from the POV of the main character, who for some reason keeps doing long... more>> and arduous branching monologues that goes nowhere, speculating about useless things that don't matter at all.

I mean, I know this is a web novel and there isn't much to expect in terms of quality, and I'm not here to read elegant prose. But I don't think I'm the only one who thinks that to keep readers interested, you also have to keep them from getting bored. <<less

The first part of the story is him hiding his powerful ability from the public eyes to prevent trouble for his family, so its an a decent slice of life. He leaves his family to start his own life after reaching a certain age, and openly use his ability. This is where the novel takes a different turn and heavily focus on the political aspect. The MC is a tool, a puppet, being walk all over and being manipulative and taken advantage of by anyone in authority... more>> or by anyone of the opposite s*x due to his cowardly half-ass personality. He has no problem with female classmate using his name for their own advantages. Being swindle into marriage cause by his loose personality of lip servicing influential figures, which he has no intention of fixing even if he does not want it, and just accept it as it is. Even though the MC reincarnated with his memory of his past life in tact, his thinking regress to the level of a naive kid. I find the other characters with different circumstances and scheming to be more interesting, unfortunately none of them really stand out enough to remember them. It is for this reason that I have trouble remembering who is who. <<less

Hachinantte isn't a terrible novel but after a promising start it degenerated into something dull.

The short of it would be that the MC is living the bleak life of isekai version of a salaryman. Boss tells MC to do something and the MC thinks "I don't really want to but I guess I have to" and goes to do it, then gets rewarded money under the presumption that it gets funneled into developing his fief and thus the kingdom. Then he spends some time with his wives that might or... more>> might not love him until the king sends him somewhere again.

The world: Nothing too much out of ordinary. You have the usual European style medieval kingdom with areas of monsters here and there. This time it's been just humans so far without any mention of elves or beastmen. There isn't RPG-like skills either. At least the church isn't corrupt this time.

Action: There's not too much. Early on it worked fine, but as the story goes on the interesting parts become more and more reliant on the boss monsters to stay interesting. Even then the bosses can be fought with colliding magic beams or similar not so exciting things. Any generic baddie mobs get handled with something like AoE stun with one paragraph.

Adventure: MC's group does travel into unknown lands at times, usually sent there by someone else. Sometimes it's interesting and gives out more information about the world like the ruins did, others it's just another monster fight area.

Comedy: Humor is subjective and all that but I seriously cannot remember this story making me smile, let alone laugh. Maybe it's Erwin being the bu*t of the joke all the time?

Ecchi: This is probably the least prominent tag. You don't need two digits to count the number of times something like walking on girls bathing has happened. There's not even naughty talk anywhere.

Harem/romance: I can't tell if the characters love each other or not. The first girls stuck onto MC to book his power before he became an important figure and the later girls are political marriages. The MC seems to think "I guess it's fine" about his harem. They seem to get along just fine but it also feels like the characters are together only because of mutual convenience. The girls and their families get an elevated position and the MC can reject most of the new political marriages. Even when it's supposed to be a scene of MC spending time with his girls the topic soon shifts into politics or business. Also:
Spoiler

The MC goes to cheat with another woman right after getting married to his harem to make sure his five wives didn't just coincidentally get magic boost after receiving his... fluids.

[collapse]

Politics: This is the major player of the story. It's nice to see a well-thought set of intrigue and balancing the power but it's literally everywhere to the point you get sick of it. Meeting someone? Here's how the person is relevant to politics. Buying a gift? You need to think of this so nobody can badmouth you. Wedding night? Need someone to witness you doing things so nobody can argue later. Even the most mundane discussions seem to drift into politics. Politics precedes everything else in this story. Sometimes it feels like it's a wonder the MC can scratch his nose without somehow taking politics into account.

MC: He gets called upon by the king every time something happens, or his patron noble to work as a teleport taxi service. Of course he can't decline them because it would ruin his position so he gets used all the time. Then he returns home to ponder how the things he did will affect the kingdom and develop his land with the reward money until the king calls him again for another crisis. He's literally a fantasy version of a corporate s*ave. He doesn't even seem to have a personal goal.

Other: The author likes to repeat things to the point you start to wonder if you accidentally cl**ked on a chapter you already read. The author sometimes skips things, it's not just a couple of times I thought "Oh, that character was there too" after a scene change.

In conclusion, Hachinantte has a potentially good core and a lot of detail in certain parts, but the focus is too much on politics at the expense of everything else, leaving the story a drag to read. <<less

It was interesting in the beginning. Only in the beginning. The story starts to turn bad the moment he got involved with the nobilities.

Why? In the beginning, he was walking toward his "dream". He worked to get what he wanted. It wasn't unpleasant to watch him getting stronger for this dream either.

Then came the leash. Yes, this character is a loyal dog. He is used by everyone for their own profits, just like the king or his "patron":

[Owner] : Go kill the dragon! It's dangerous, and you may die, but... more>> don't worry, you will get tons of money!

[MC] : I don't want to, but if I flee to another kingdom, I will be lost (aka, it's scary). I suppose I got no other choice then.

It wouldn't be that depressing if he was juste naive. This indecisiveness makes him just a wimp, or a M.

Also, girls keep falling for him for no reason at all, or maybe his fame and his money. Hummm..., surely the money yes.

And this is it. Antagonists? Are we talking about those stereotypical buffons that just serve as foothold to increase the fortune of the MC?

To summarize, It's a shame:

  • It's not interesting to read the story of a boy who got lead by the nose by everyone. He has the power to change things (and his situation), but only use his power for the things that others requested of him.
  • I don't feel any attachment toward a MC who got everything without working for it. Money? He went from pennyless to millionaire in less than 20 chapters. Territory? He tries his best to avoid all the responsabilities by saying that he wants to work as an adventurer. But do not worry people! I will use the power of money to make everyone happy! This make that part bland.
  • The story is really difficult to read. For the most part, it's just the MC inner thoughts, nothing else. Yes, you can call that a monologue. And yes, it inhibits the development of the rest of the characters.

The MC is the king of all Beta males, through the entire "first act" he holds the conviction to be a free adventurer with no connection to any faction (nobility, church etc.). But immediately after an "heroic" fight, he's just meeting the king and the leaders of the church. Directly afterwards, on a private audience, he even gets a fiancée (church) because declining would be impolite and "impossible". At that point he already does have a mutual love interest, by the way.

I never read such inconsistent character, the entire "character... more>> development" of the first act is discarded to get the harem started. Why? Because shounen, of course! <<less

The main character... is so bad. It's just another novel with the same Japanese beta guy that gets used by everyone with Ecchi here and there but ofcourse nothing happens which really makes you wonder.

The thing that made me hate this story the most is the lack of imagination- Coupled with the somehow mediocre translation- Yeah sorry but its true.

This novel might work for you if you haven't read alot of novels before but if you already have then this will only give you a major headache- And no its... more>> not the same as Mushoku Tensei as someone else posted. Atleast that one has some suspense. <<less

Good, then boring.

Pro

    • Interesting story overall.
    • Interesting and slightly more realistic than usual feudal family structure.
    • Main character is calm and not super immature.
    • No level like magical system with status screens and so on, but a more real world like "analog" feeling.
    • Translation isn't bad (though onomatopoeia are kept in later chapters, and it's annoying and cringy to see a good translation riddled "Ano" and other "Jaa")
Con

    • Summary of the story on every damn chapter, seriously super annoying.
    • Nonsensical local money to yen translation. Economy 101 : no exchange of goods between Japan and the different world means no possibility of any exchange rate.
    • Excess of little details while there is no big main character development is boring in the later chapters.
    • I ultimately didn't feel any attachment to the main character, and that's what killed the story for me.

I actually quite enjoyed the early chapters of this novel. It has a fairly good setting in a developing remote region where his father is a lord.

Learning to be a member of society and of his family and about the fief and its responsibilities is pretty interesting.

Then the MC starts grows old enough to venture out of this fief and go to nearby towns, the capital and the country, and the story derails completely:

  • He suddenly gets surrounded by girls out of nowhere who become the base for an annoying harem series
  • He makes inordinate amounts of money rapidly removing any kind of interesting developments with the world and society
  • He loses responsibility and family ties since now he's just an adventurer who doesn't have to take bother with fief politics anymore
  • And then, he goes off and slays invincible monsters, becoming a rising rod in the capital, beloved of king and nobels, betrothed to the most loli-big b**bed heroines there...
long story short: human drama is non-existent and you just have some really terrible self-realisation wet dreams with an incompetent hero from then on. All the more a shame, since the premise and world building seemed good initially.

I have looked at some of the reviews before mine and I want to clear up some misunderstandings. First this story is not about and OP mage that battles evil and roams freely. It is about a powerful mage who is a reincarnated japanese man being restricted by the rules of a nobles. Since he has no experience with this he frequently gets pulled into things. If you are looking for a fight heavy novel this is not for you. If your looking for a uncontrolled OP MC this is... more>> not for you. This story is a lot more about the day to day life of a noble in a fantasy land. <<less

Reviewed at 36 chapters and rated 4:

In many novels, the fact that the MC has lived in another world and was reincarnated or transported seems like it has little contribution to the story. In Hachinan though, we will always be reminded of it in many occasions. But it’s not because the MC can’t adapt to the new world. As a transported person, understandably, he was homesick and wished to eat his world’s food. As a transported person, it’s normal that he makes many comparisons between worlds, and a bit bewildered... more>> at the new world’s magic, social, and political system. As a transported person too, make sense that he tried to apply his previous life’s dealing ways to the new ones (albeit ended in failure). As he subsequently increased his understandings and his own standing, befriending many people and interact with more, the readers too got our own chance to evaluate the novel’s world and identify with the MC’s plights. All in all, Hachinan is a sufficiently good novel. However, the author often took a roundabout way in explaining things, or repeating similar information throughout the chapter, while actions are told in a relatively shorter narrative; thus the pace is a bit choppy, sometimes can be a bit boring and sometimes too brief. <<less
