Chen Yan travels between worlds, ending up becoming an honorable prince in a medieval fantasy world. Yet this world was not quite as simple as he thought. Witches with magical powers abound, and fearsome wars between churches and kingdoms rage throughout the land.

Roland, a prince regarded as hopeless by his own father and assigned to the worst fief, spends his time developing a poor and backward town into a strong and modern city, while fighting against his siblings for the throne and absolute control over the kingdom. Join Roland as he befriends and allies with witches and, through fighting and even farming, pushes back invaders coming from the realm of evil.

I finished the whole story. I have to say from the start story goes really well. There are times becomes boring (i dont like reading battle, war, action scenes), story over all really good. And didnt fall the "popularity" thing and didng go on and on for nothing. In story, there was an aim (ok more than one but still) when that aim done, story finished. So yeah, you can read without consider these stuff.

The novel is not to be judged by it's title. This is a very decent read, and by the chapter 300, it still doesn't get boring or cliched (although, knowing how many chinese novels tend to have 1000+ chapters in then, this might become the case later), and overall is suitable to be called a good one. By the chapter 300, it fully deserves a rock solid 4 stars of rating.

I really like this novel and have read it twice now. It has great character development, world building and great story.

To address some of the critiques:

This is an isekai, so the rules of how it happens or to what extend you retain your memories is flexible in a fantasy story.

Some progress happens fast but I think of it as the author was not going to make the story longer for the sake of little more realism.

why the dream world is becoming a common use, isn't it better if MC is using it because the knowledge in the dream world is mc's strength and its advantages if the dream world becomes a shared use then MC is useless for what reading a novel if MC is only a burden and becomes rubbish on Finally, why do you have to add the Yuri genre in the novel, if there is a need for the writer to add it in the genre tag so that others know, for... more>> example, I don't like it if there is a Yuri or yaoi genre because it's better not to read it. First, if you spend some time, you'll find the rest of it translated and that's how I read till the end already. It's a good story. It's engaging, has twists, and plenty of drama. The MC is not an idiot, and the world feels reasonable.

It's one of my top stories now, and I'm even tempted to read it s few times, all 1498 chapters of it. I'm not good at review writing, but it is a book worth your time, why else would it's overall rating be so high otherwise?... more>> That many people can't all have strange tastes. <<less

It's an enjoyable read. The author has a wide range of knowledge that he uses to do a good job of writing this type of story where an educated person from the modern world goes to the medieval age and changes the world by making use of his advanced knowledge. That part is solid.

The aspect of witches with supernatural powers, each having a unique ability, is great too. The world building in this part alone is awesome. There is an engaging story about the history of the witches and the... more>> history of humanity as a whole.

The kingdom building in this novel is number one out of all the novel I've tried. No joke. LMS would come second, mainly cuz there are no other novels worth mentioning in this regard. If anyone knows a good one, let me know pls.

So my problem with this novel? Somewhat of a spoiler.
Spoiler

MC repeatedly enters a dream world which is like the modern world and people he knows show up with the same names but as different characters, and they live a completely different life. At first, MC thinks it's just an manifested amalgamation of the memories of many people, then finds out it's an actual world/realm that is connected to the normal world somehow and MC has to figure out its secrets and fight enemies in there too. It gets confusing. A whole new plot is developed through that. I just skip the chapters in the dream world. It apparently has bearing on the secrets of the world and destiny and stuff, but no relation to the immediate story.

Also, author makes the hidden plot way too mysterious and complex. At first it seems like the MC from the modern world is turning the situation to humanity's advantage. At some point it is revealed that... nope. Humanity seems to have no chance and the real enemies are waaaay more advanced than the ones MC has been fighting against. And it seems like the MC's development of humanity and technologies are not enough for the war ahead. It's like the enemies graduated from wuxia to xianxia so the MC's side has to as well and that sounds bad.

[collapse]

So, the plot gets convoluted, and boring stuff is driven into an interesting novel about what I mentioned at the top. I doubt many people will like both aspects equally. <<less

If you like a realistic kingdom building, with lots of real physics and chemistry knowledge, this is it.

It has magic too, but the building itself is the most entertaining for me, it's wonderful.

This one is like 4.5 star for me.

I am only deducting the.5 star because of the ending.

I felt this novel will be going the the 2000s but it ended so suddenly at 1498.

even at 1480 it didn't feel like it would end so soon.

I was expecting a deeper level of plot and more about stuff related to Ronald.

Read upto Ch. 193

Started with an interesting premise of the ultimate battle between the witches and the (thought to be good, but actually very evil) Church, and MC leading the war, together with the witches. While MC is still leading the war, the witches have been reduced to deus ex machina for whatever the MC needs - he needs rust-proof merchandise, and BAM! one of the witches suddenly upgrades her powers and is now able to provide unbelievablly durable, waterproof 'oil-coating' on any surface! Who needs PVC when they have... more>> a witch to provide PVC-pipe like structures!???

Not to mention, there are chunks and chunks of very boring 'sciencey-details' of the next new thing the MC comes up with! Genius MC is able to recollect Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology at the level of writing books and teaching people Molecular Chemsitry and Quantum Mechanics! Not to mention he's able to 'invent' cement, steam engines, gun powder, dc motors, rifles, revolvers etc. In the time he still has remaining, he's a good enough architect to design perfect & practical houses, and design the whole city structure... Did I mention the hot air balloon and the plan to build a plane and a rocket!??

It would have been better had the author spent time on actually moving the plot forward than spending so much effort on all the 'sciencey' details. All the characters are introduced and then forgotten. This interesting Alchemist was introduced, Author spent 4-5 chapters in his pov, giving the reader hope that he'll actually help the MC with his experience and help building more amazing things, but nope, he is put into a box as soon as he meets MC, and has yet to reappear - probably when MC is in a fix and needs some urgent chemical solution!

So, Nope, this story is not for me... <<less

Fun read, really enjoyable premise: mid evil world that allows modern weapons to be created with magic. Super long though, but full of non repetitive plot.

Spoiler

I'm a little hurt that the plot hole of why he was brought into the world wasn't really explained at the end, or maybe I just missed it.

[collapse]

The ending seemed a bit rushed, but that is kind of to be expected at that length (the author probably could have gone on for a war or to more with how much they setup).

Protagonist is reincarnated into semi-fantasy world. Will he use scheming, his intelligence or charisma to conquer world?

Have you dear reader, ever played strategy game before? If so, how would said game fell like with: infinite resources, fully researched technology tree and hundreds of unbalanced OP units?

Almost done. Now, imagine Roland as your character/leader. Congratulations! You have created your own RtW!

Although it is sweet at first, yet lack of ANY challenge, quite fast numb this taste...

This story is a 4.1 if you can binge read the whole novel.

I understand that with every day that passes, the kingdoms pose much less of a threat to the MC but c'mon author, hundreds of chapter and the conclusion to the inheritance of the throne was bad! Really bad! Everything happened so sudden to both his siblings. Especially since hundreds of chapter were wasted on them!

Now at 7oo+ chapters and the main battle nearing I guess that will be quickly concluded once the author builds some hype for years... more>> in the story. We all know that small town is developing at a crazy rate and at the moment could hold their own against the main enemies, now what will happen after a few years of development and some hype across a few hundred chapter ? A quick conclusion! Just like the rest of villains!

I am a fan of a side characters getting their side of the story but as of now when the translated chapters haven't cached up to the raws, you will feel like skipping those chapters since there is no main story development. <<less

This novel is really hard to put down. It is not perfect, but it is captivating. The story is full of characters to relate to or easy to find a lovable favorite. It also has many details about the world and the things in it as well. The only issue I have is pacing.

Spoiler

As of Chapter 730, only 1.5-2 years have passed in the novel.

[collapse]

There are a series of chapters where it builds up to a major event (ends in a semi-cliffhanger), only for the next chapter to be about side characters' POV/story, which can get annoying. There aren't many of these, but they are noticeable to me and it ruins the pacing for some of the arcs. While I wouldn't say pacing is a major issue, it might bother some readers on how the author writes the passage of time in the novel - it's all over the place. You have multiple chapters than only span 2-3 days. Then you have chapters where the line "a week has passed/1 week after" or something similar is written.

That said, this is an addicting novel. <<less

Dark fantasy is my favourite genre, but Release that Witch is not the dark, gritty, adults only story I usually am usually drawn to. Instead, it is a very family friendly PG story, with mainly likable "nice" characters.

It also has technical depth, with its integration of tech into a low fantasy magic universe, and is well thought out in the way it has been weaved together. The athiest, pure science perspective, for me anyhow, is a welcome change from the usual, though that may actually turn others off.

Not your everyday... more>> resurrected into a fantasy world with OP cheat skills tale, and is a refreshing read beacause of that fact. <<less

It is enjoyable. I was reluctant at first to read this because of the tags and the summary (I'm tired of harem stuff with repetitive plot). But this was actually quite enjoyable, the world building is good but there are some illogical or rather impossible concepts.

Spoiler

For example how he can remember the chemistry table and how it works. He says that he is an engineer and it's quite impossible to have all those memorized and to be honest the building of things are a bit too fast even with the help of the witches.

But overall it was enjoyable and not bad at all. <<less

Things I like:

Transported to another world + fantasy + harem + witches + ??? = Amazing?!

I feel like many stories have tried, but this one manages to pull off a great feel.

Don't get me wrong, it's not without its faults. But overall, it scratches an itch not many stories have been able to or were willing to touch.

A truly rare combination of genres.

However, I imagine some may hate it or grow bored of it or have issues suspending their disbelief.

Is the MC completely broken/OP?

mmm, technically he has basically no fighting ability or any sort of tangible power. (I.e. No status screen saying 'you've got god's blessing' or anything like that)

Is the MC a mary-sue?

Technically, yes. He is supposed to be smart + higher education schooling + some type of high tech engineer career field. However, instead of his knowledge being very specific (like an engineer's would be), he seems to have an excessively broad amount of knowledge in multiple fields. (I.e. Biology, chemistry, civil engineering, geology, economics, military strategy/the art of war)

And this is on top of his supposed career field. Perhaps his alternate earth has an amazing k thru 12 program as well as having an incredible memory. But otherwise, his knowledge seems to be Deus ex machina at times. Though, without this knowledge, he'd probably be dead by now. (Or have to get by via MC plot armor/luck/etc)

It's a fun read, and the characters are a bit more than just throw-away names. It reminds me of Jim Butcher's Codex Alera series. If you like world building, this is definitely up your alley.
