Storytelling and/or translations are lacking. It is confusing sometimes (don't know who's talking to whom, fcking replies in brackets...) and a bit long winded, well that's expected of a JP novel. The idea is great but you don't get to really hear that unstoppable foul mouth - just saying bastards over and over doesn't cut it. Also if this is a western style novel, author should reaaaally stop with the sama, san, kun...

There is a reason for overwhelmingly positive score.

It is just too good.

Unlike many reincarnated into a game novels, this one has no apparent game mechanism. Rather, there is barely any game element in the novel except that the MC knows the original setting and route of the game and instead of avoiding or vastly changing the route, he tried to keep the event as close to the game story line as much as possible.

Quite good, I must say...

The MC became a foul-mouthed villain of his favorite game. He looks for ways in order to avoid Death flags and tries to go to the main route of the story without altering the plot of the game and looks for routes where he doesn’t die. The series is full of misunderstandings because of the body he is possesing. (I call it the “Auto Bastard Translating mouth” LOL)

The development is good. The characters are quite likeable...

Well I've been reading this series from 2019, and I've been enjoyed most of its story so far.

The story at first started like any other genic isekai where you possessed the antagonist of the story. In other isekai, you can act as a good guy in a villain's body with no drawback. But in deathflag, Harold's foul mouth was almost a disability to him, and he thought that he was being hated for that seemed logical, not like acting like a goody two shoes and just "Oh I'm being hated... more>> because I'm in a villain body".

Well the story started off interesting, the knight arc was the peak of the story, and then it just went downhill afterward. Like if you was captured by the last boss, and the last boss tried to alienate you to control you easier, or you started a mercenary group or did anything, please don't just time skip and wrote about 2-3 lines about that. And I'm starting to dislike Erica a bit, like she just made a mumbo jumbo speech about "Just do it" to Harold. But after the timeskip, she went back to "boo hoo I'm not fit to Harold so I'm not going to do anything". Like they only went backward in that 5 years.

Well the story is starting to get the genetic isekai's vibe, losing its uniqueness, but still better than most of modern isekai now. I'm still sticking with it since I want to know the ending, but I don't enjoyed it like how I did in 2019. And the slow pacing of releasing chapters just makes it worse. <<less

It's pretty bad. I started reading this after the manga, which was somewhat entertaining, but the novel is just bad. Too much fluff, and little actual content, after ch ~50 I found myself just skipping entire paragraphs because they didn't add anything or were too cringeworthy.

Character interactions and relationships aren't even remotely believable, even xianxias / xuanhuans have better developments in that regard.

It's absolutely nonsensical that he still worries about his own deathflags according to the plot and yada yada after having messed up the storyline and all the character... more>> relationships since chapter 1.

In conclusion, it's decent for a japanese novel, but it's too bad for me to ever touch again unless I am bored to the point where I want to suffer to feel alive. <<less

Pretty standard Isekai story here, a strong shounen title, and very cringey at times. It's written well for the most part, and the beginning will likely suck you in regardless of your experiences with hero stories, but the honeymoon ends fast. For all the troupes the novel avoids, it adds them back in the form of setting and plot conveniences. Training is done off-screen, everyone is drawn to the protagonist like the world revolves around him, and the drama becomes a focal point, of which it can be very eye... more>> rolling at times. I suppose that's what you can come to expect for people experienced in stories aimed at younger folk. Read this is you're still green on isekai hero stories. Skip otherwise. <<less

I read quite a long ways into this before I stopped, but that was a while ago. So I will forego giving my usual long review. I'm just going to present my single biggest issue with this work from what I remember, which causes me to rate it lower than I would otherwise: the sheer number of pages wasted on other characters monologuing their thoughts about Harold, and their general hyper focus on him. Yes, I know he is the protagonist, but it's just so extreme that it gets eyerollish... more>> sometimes.

A large portion of this work (as I remember it) is the various ways in which other people come to understand that Harold is not a bad guy, but just misunderstood. They see it through usually circumstantial evidence that he doesn't mean to present to them, which basically overturns their expectations 180 degrees, and turns most of them from being haters into fervent (secret) lovers of him. This trend is repeated. A lot. It sometimes takes up much of this work. The person that sees Harold will sit there and suddenly break out into a full-scale monologue and/or soliloquy that could take up a short story, comprising their sudden thoughts of Harold and how they will follow him through thick and thin while not trying to ruin his cringy antihero vibes, because *insert some plausible reason they can't openly support him here*. And some of them do it many, many times. Especially Erika.

It got old to me. Very old. Simple as that. End review. <<less

Definitely needs to get some more attention for Isekai in a game would adventure and drama light novel series.

This story so far still have a potential to become some easygoing fantasy, adventure, and drama series for me.

Currently by the time this reviews was made it's still on hiatus and don't know when will this be continued again because of the slow update.

I rated it at 3, but my real score is 2.5 (since this site doesn't allow that). I'll leave it at that because others might enjoy this, and I did, too, until I didn't.

TL;DR: Excessive use of misunderstandings. Zero communication. Romance development is not believable.

The main premise is that the protagonist transmigrates to an RPG world where he takes the role of a villain—pretty standard setting. I commend the author for trying to do away with all the typical clichés, but unfortunately, he failed at many other things. My first... more>> annoyance with this novel was that the MC is unable to communicate because his "mouth" says whatever it wants. In short, it translates what he wants to say in the way the body's original owner would talk. I could let this slide because it was funny, but it becomes a major problem later on. The main reason is that the MC is unable to create real bonds with anyone for obvious reasons since his mouth would say everything in a cruel way and insult everyone.

Despite that, the author decided that some characters will misunderstand what he's trying to do or say and make it so that, in a roundabout way, they understand that his intentions are not bad. You might think this is clever, but it gets annoying pretty quickly. Many times, you will see characters misunderstanding MC and start a monologue as if it was obvious what MC is trying to do, whereas MC has no idea what they're talking about. And this is not the only use of misunderstandings in the novel. To top it all, there's a major plot point with a major character that gets "resolved" without the MC ever knowing it did. So, someone who should hate him doesn't and he, understandably, believes they do hate him. You can guess how many more misunderstandings will arise from that plot point alone.

Again, despite the huge lack of communication I just pointed out, MC still somehow makes progress with his relationships where not one of the parties actually knows what the other is thinking. I talked a lot about his relationships because a lot of it is about that and the MC trying to survive. <<less

meh at best, there are too many strange points on the character action, and the relationship and personal growth of the protagonist is going nowhere.

Transmigration into villain character in a Game World + avoiding the countless death flags
this setting is interesting, yeah it's template nowadays but still great nevertheless
BUT!!! only the potential that great, this novel have a flaw...

Big minus number one! - MC didn't have Free will!

nowadays MC that role-playing or create fake persona is not rare (like [Overlord] or [Isekai Maou to Shoukan Shoujo Dorei Majutsu])
this one acceptable when they enacting Comedy or Cool scenes, and I found that quirk interesting, but... for this novel it's not at the level of acting anymore.
his Mouth is uncontrollable! always spite thing that makes his surrounding hostile against him.

in other novel MC may acting different from their true self, but at least they can somehow salvage the situation before it's become absolute bad.
BUT THIS one... NAY! he can't control what he will say! in many situation... he is the one that at fault! because of his mouth!
if it's just once or twice... we can tolerate it... but! if it's E. VE. RY. SING. LE TI. ME. thats..... (;一_一)
"My Death Flags Show No Sign of Ending" yeah right...
you're the one that plant that freaking death flags!!!! (ノಠ益ಠ) ノ彡┻━┻

Big minus number two! - Tsun x TSUN! Σ (゜д゜;) oO (THE HECK IS THAT!!!)

If it's Tsundere X Tsundere, maybe we can still enjoy the "sweetness" from dere part, BUT THIS one... NAY!
all that they show is tsun, tsun and more tsun! (ノಠ益ಠ) ノ彡┻━┻
all of their encounter is tsun x tsun! theres no way we can enjoy the sweetness of romance from that. they only ever show their 'dere' side in front of other people, not in front of their counterpart!
at first, it's kinda cool that he keep his distance to protect the heroine... but he always do that no matter the situation, without eventually open up, or at least waver or struggle in that direction... that kinda.... well I love their innocent relationship... but there a limit to how long that can keep going...
Spoiler

that's how things go till c.66 (?) or only in that chapter thats there any resemblance of "dere (?) " in their moment with one another T.T

[collapse]

Minus number three! - fail at thickening the plot

many novel only interesting at first phase, but turn cold when they develop further. sadly this novel is one of them (for me)
at first, the beginning (childhood arc) is really interesting. for that part I'm wiiling to give it a 4... or maybe 5 star.
but after the knight arc (or the the knight arc closure to be exact) this novel is spiraling donwhill. yeah they begin to touch the core of game story. and probably want to thickening the plot.
but I really can't accept that result.
Spoiler

sure, for plot armor maybe they can't change the verdict, but at least they can change or sway the public opinion. or at least knights order opinion.
for god's sake he's one of a noble, more ever his in-law was one among the noble houses who had helped in the founding of the country, and from their organization, plus their ties to the kingdom was deep. how come they didn't have power or resource to combat that situation

[collapse]
i really can't fathom how they let the situations deteriorated that much (yeah~ yeah~ "the enemy is too OP~ so they can't do anything". or so that's what the plot wants -_-),
to continuously bring infamy to himself, maybe theres reader that may enjoy that kind of "growth (strugel) " but for me... thats hard to swallow.. so for me... so far the story turn cold.

thats 3 major flaw that takes my enthusiasm [-_-]
and as if thats not enough, later because of flaw no.1
Spoiler

he fight against hero party

[collapse]
if he can say what he want to say. that will not happen (~_~)... that's it... Drop it.

what a pity... even though this novel really have great potential...

Well I guess I have to leave my feelings somewhere, as someone who read the novel since the beginning and was happy that finally got adapted to manga I have to say........ this novel needs to end, I loved watching harold struggle and how people at some point came to understand him, but now...... is tiring it's seriously tiring watching everything repeat itself.

And when harold faces a difficult scenario, at first there was suspense and it made me ask myself if he was going to survive said predicament, but now?

Is... more>> s*upid to ask if he's going to survive now..... yes he will (he's literally the best of the best)
Spoiler
[collapse]

And now I find harold kind of annoying 😅 (forgive me)

I seriously liked him

Now the only thing I ask to myself is is harold "survives" everything that's left what is the end after everything? Will he marry? Someone will stay whit him? Will he kill himself?

That's the only thing that keeps me reading this sadly....... it seriously got.... kind of boring.

Very good novel, great story buildup and execution, although it starts getting really confusing after Volume 3 of the novel, as there was a 5 year time skip, right after a big suspenseful buildup at the end of Vol 2, and due to the time skip, a lot of things get really confusing later on, as Harold skips from 13 years old, to 18. Plus the fact that later on in the story it was said that Harold would die by the age of 20, it makes me wonder how... more>> the age progression would work, can't wait for the next chapter!

The story starts out alright, with the MC building friends allies with prior knowledge of things, solving this with knowledge of the game etc. Then it seems like the author creates conflict just for the sake of creating conflict, with the mc's course of actions seemingly whatever brings the most pain/problem to himself and his own ally. I get that the author wants to avoid going down the 'MC gets op and there's actually no stake anymore' trope, but at this point it's literally just creating conflict for the sake... more>> of creating conflict and dumbing down the MC and other characters to unbelievable level. You know, those cliched artificial conflict in stories could be easily solved in characters could communicate for 10 minutes like normal human beings. <<less

I wanted to like it. I like isekai, I've read a lot of "fallen in the book" stories. I even liked the protagonist, but the writing...

I was first annoyed by the comments of the author: "Harold shouldn't have done that, he should have thought about this and that because...", or worse "Harold shouldn't have said that but he would know about it only X years later".

Can't the author stop himself from commenting what will happen in the story.

But then, when I was only annoyed, I became irritated because of another... more>> of the author habit. Making every move of the protagonist into a chess match :"oh Harold has found a way to solve all my problems and he doesn't want anything in return, that's why he said this X months ago and did this at X time, but I could refuse because X......" when there is no need to.

So the story may be good, but I stopped reading because of the writing style. <<less

The plot and the setting are good but my only complain is how wordy it is. Adjectives are overused even with the most pointless of details. Here's an example from volume 1.

"While muttering with a powerless voice, without an aim, he looked around inside the room with swimming eyes.
Since it doesn’t appear during the course of the game, its accurate parts aren’t known, but from the feeling he got from looking at the width of the room, the canopied bed, the sofa he was resting on, he could guess as to whom this room belonged to.

In a corner of the room, there was a full-length mirror whose height was greater than a grown male’s. Kazuki swallowed his saliva, with a sharp sound resounding from his throat.

Standing up after putting all his power into his trembling knees, he walked towards the full-length mirror with unsteady footsteps.
To confirm his hypothesis. While praying that his hypothesis was off."

This is fine with a full length novel but this is a light novel. You shouldn't have to plow through all these words just to get through one chapter.

The MC keeps directing hate from other people to himself and psychologically hurting the people he cared about, even though some behaviors are fully controllable and not necessary for his objectives. The story has reflected the preciousness of free will and expression, as well as the importance of social skills. What the novel lacks are the "psychological" and "tragedy" tags. It has a unique taste but unfortunately it isn't my cup of tea.

Just give it a try and take it with a grain of salt. It's a great story. It does have its fair share of flaws but if you can get over them then it's quite enjoyable. Some people talk about plotholes and pacing in the story so here's my take on that:
-there are some events that happened tens of chapters prior that foreshadowed current events (or at least they become foreshadowing with how they were reiterated) that really make you want to reread those chapters to see details that you missed

-there are indeed plotholes for now but I believe they will be resolved sooner or later

-the pacing is overall good and nothing feels too rushed normally, though I get why people complain about the jump made from volume 2 to volume 3 since that cliffhanger was very intriguing but all of a sudden all's good and well with a lot of details missing, so this for sure sparked the ire of some as I felt pretty let down by that development myself. And I'm sure most would argue that that skip created a lot of plotholes and I can't disagree since it was too sudden and messed up the pretty good pacing.

Overall my opinion is that the story is pretty good and worth the time.

For All the the title says it to be not a single freaking death flag and if the death flags are just "yet" to come while story develops slowly then the earlier death flags the MC so much screams about arent that at all. Loved this novel for authors conviction of "how" MC can handle everything alone but just ups and dotches in 2nd volume.

Not a single chapter goes by without mentioning MCs age and how awesome he is. Every character that meets MC must mention his age speed he... more>> is noble he has fiance he spared this people that people he did this and still didnt got credit. Yes every chracter that meets him.

Otomega is better than this. There is no acutaly plot just showing how MC misses japan and "how" he Definetly gonna cancel the engagements mentioning every chapter. Yea we know how you gonna do it author.

Boosted novel nothing more <<less
