Basically everything alenotbeer said in his review, and to add on that later on logic and math bend to fit the MC's endeavors. I initially wanted to give it a 1/5 score after I finished it (since I was triggered by how much time I spent reading this), but later on when I calmed down I decided against it. The novel did keep me reading it for 3.8k chapters and the only redeemable points it had (for me) were the huge amount of realms it had (i love introductions to... more>> new worlds / cultivation levels, etc... Which is basically the only thing that kept me going) and a decent romance in the first quarter of the story. <<less

A light read with MC doing everything for himself and his women.

Just like the description, this novel isn't deep, with classic plot, however it's well written. With a focus on MC alchemy skills, his marital arts path, and his women, so far.

PS:

Spoiler

It seems this one and AST are in competition to see who can have the most wives, since it's only 375 chapters and it's already 3 women confirmed, with 4 others almost.

This is a very generic story that tends to spend the entire time either glorifying how badass our protagonist is or crafting a really cliche romcom scene. It's basically an entire book of that. And our MC quite literally finds a new woman wherever he goes. Having said all of this, if you find these things enjoyable, it's not a bad read. And, while the relationships are all fairly one-dimensional, they are pretty amusing to read about, especially if you can manage to suffer through the first ~150 chapters (after... more>> that point, it focuses a lot more on their relationships). This novel is just barely good enough to bother reading, but I did bother to keep reading it, albeit slowly. Regardless, I wouldn't take this novel too seriously. <<less

No need to explain it further, the first part of the official description says it best. MC gets everything, no one else matters. Perfect narcissistic fantasy. And in that vein, it's a good story; without sarcasm, I recommend it.

I just can't seem to like it anymore.

While others may complain at the speed that the story progresses initially, personally, I find it rather enjoyable. To those that have issues with it, sorry, but not all of us enjoy reading 60 chapters discussing how the MC is powering up, and reaching the next level, or going over one concept over ten chapters that can basically be summed up in one sentence of "He understood something new, and so got a lot stronger". The story is definitely an enjoyable read, but be warned, the MC doesn't like taking... more>> shit, so he behaves like Chu Feng, and Yun Che, however, he isn't like h**ny-Che, and knows how to keep it in his pants (He actually tries to be rather faithful to his first waifu at this point in the story). <<less

As of ch.60.

The story is about a MC without talent who had a fortuitous encounter with two injured beauties. Exchanging a contract, he saved their lives and gained the potential to be a powerful cultivator. Perhaps this is the main difference from other similar novels: instead of having an old foggie, the MC has two alluring and mysterious women as his mentors, teaching him in the ways of fighting arts and pill-making alchemy.

Other than that, the story has the familiar cycles of offend-and-revenge, as the down-trodden MC powers up at... more>> light speed. He demolishes those in his way, either in the field of martial arts or in alchemy. The despicable opponents are killed, resulting in escalation as older people and bigger factions are drawn in. He also collects the interest and affections of various women. In between the duels, ambushes, pill-making and martial training, we have functional lines of dialogue as feuds and flirting with said women abound. The pace of the story moves along quickly (too quickly for some) but this ensures that something is always happening in every chapter. It reminds me of Dragon-Marked War God which also retreads the familiar tropes at a fast pace with a MC who isn't afraid of using his strength decisively. Decent, even though it doesn’t really offer anything new. <<less

Reviewed at 46 chapters, rated 3.

The pace was choppy, the author also got some problem with consistency, and there were repetitive rout all over. Also, the power-up and world build was too fast and too brief. Usually, I prefer faster pace, but in this novel, I think the story could benefit from more details, narrative, and side development. The acute lack of them led to under-developed characters and plot. Consequently, reading World-Defying Dan God became like watching a movie in fast-forward; there’s little essence that can be savored, although we... more>> can say that we have seen it all.

On the plus side... well, it’s not that I hate the novel, but even after thinking for a while, I couldn’t tell what it is! However, it has the mysterious something that made wuxia/xianxia/xuanhuan irresistible and addictive for some people. So, if you are a fan of this genre, you’ll probably like this. As for me, I don’t know if I’ll continue or drop it, so this review might not be revised in the future. <<less

I have read this novel for a long time and I have even gone out of my way after the translation to find a decent MTL to read, and yes it is that good I have read many novels but world defying dan god has always been at the forefront along with long live summons, and now that it has received an adaptation I feel I need to leave a review because people tend to tr*sh novels they have never read and I have read this novel and truly love... more>> it and if there is someone looking for a good harem novel with a competent protagonist this is one of the few that will deliver <<less

ISTG authors describing female characters is already cringey enough but somehow this author makes it even more cringey.

also, the story is poorly written, as if he was afraid 6 yr olds wouldn’t be able to understand it or trying to grab their attention and keep it with these childish cringey fight scenes and dialogue.

BTTH, ISSTH, and more is better than this crap. Whoever said that this is better than BTTH should go back to English class

The novel is so so. I'd give it 2 stars. The translation is amateurish and editing terrible. It's funny to read the bad translation and yet frustrating at times. Take away 1 star for the bad translation and crappy grammar.

I see that quite often, the texts are repeated, I think it is probably the fault of the translator and lack of editing. They do cut-n-paste and not edit after they finished translating a chapter.

You definitely have to suspend logic and beliefs when reading this novel. Just hold your nose and... more>> go along with the bs. It's good to waste some time if you have nothing else better to do. <<less

Dropped at 290 but skipped to the seggs scene around ch750 bc it's also a "face reveal" of one of his women who has dual identity.... which has been obvious to both reader and MC since forever... except author nerfs the MC's IQ, especially when he considers the possibility of who she is but then disregards it.

I know the quality of these novels isn't too great. So I let a lot slide. My main reason for reading these stories is because I like cultivation as a "magic" system and how... more>> the characters are non-beta that will kill who needs to be killed and seggses with who needs to be seggsed. I like character interactions. The shamelessness, the little romantic/flirting scenes, the suspense of secrets and revealing them, etc

This novel has all of that. Except the author doesn't know how to pace the story at all. There are many reviews that already mention the other points that I'll forgo.

One example of poor pacing was when some rando new enemy showed up, almost killed MC, and instead of waiting till he gets naturally stronger to fight said enemy, he risks his life by getting a lover to refine him in a cauldron. Potentially leaving his "wife" who he hasn't f*cked yet (or his several lovers) a widow. And then he gets stronger and kills enemy. The issue here is 1) there was no need to risk his own life for this rando enemy that just appeared out of nowhere. If he really needed to power up to save a lover or family I'd understand it as a plot moving device. But it was all completely unnecessarily random. and 2) the entire thing, from enemy showing up to killed happens over the course of like 5 chapters. It's not even suspenseful or anything. The author might as well make the MC find some magical treasure or something. At least he wouldn't have needlessly risked his own life to resolve something that could've been resolved with the powerful sect elders whom had reasons to kill this enemy since he was cultivating devil arts.

That kind of thing happens quite a bit in this novel. And the things that should happen relatively quickly, like when MC basically realized the dual identity of one of his lovers, the author nerfed his IQ so that I guess he "forgot" to consider this idea. Both pacing and execution are horrible. I believe the author had some really good ideas and flopped on all accounts. He could've played the "dual identity" thing much better. In the end, when I skipped to ch 750ish, the MC and his lovers all have little s*upid secrets from each other. Like "let's not let your first wife know we finally had seggs" or whatever. It's just all dumb. I honestly don't even ever what happened in the first arc, the acquiring OP Veins and saving his Chen clan from whatever because it happens so fast and without any investment on the readers part. Usually the first few arcs are the best in these novels and go downhill but it starts off already at the bottom of the hill and digs deeper. 0/5 I don't recommend.

Maybe I'll come back and edit this review to be more articulate but I'm too tired and if the author didn't try, I don't feel like trying either. <<less

This is the copy-pasted novel that Chinese "authors" like to write.

It is about the genius alchemist who fell from the cliff, had a tournament, a fiancee, a family competition, a portable master, etc.

Even though it is pretty cliche, the text itself is good and there is no much filler bullsh*t and repetitions.

This is probably the first novel that I decided not to give a rating because while I kinda like the story thus far, reading is slowly becoming a chore. After the first 400-450 chapters or so, the quality of translation dropped really hard. I have searched around for better translations and I read that the rest of the chapters (which amounts to 3000+ chapters) seems to be machine translated with minimal editing. Therefore, I decided to drop it because it would be a torture to finish the entire novel.

Good stuffs... more>> about the novel thus far:

  • Pill-making
  • Interesting universe
  • Romance is pretty good
Bad stuffs:

  1. Sloppy details leading to numerous plot-holes
  2. MC's character development is minimal
  3. Very weird power-scaling of characters

It’s a pleasure to read a story in which the protagonist is not subject to fits of idiocy and instead behaves sensibly, shrewdly, and according to a system of ethics that is not the usual psychopathic ‘might makes right’ nonsense.

The translation and editing, while not perfect, are satisfactory and do not detract from the story.

Spoiler

The first half of the story before he breaks the law of time (don't worry not a huge spoiler) is great! You have a nice harem, unique in the detail of the profession, good character development. Good balance of having friends and foes (not some of the literally MC vs the world). 4-5 stars

In the reset word after he breaks the law of time... the pace of the story speeds up significantly. He obtains things that are made out to be great and powerful... then the author seems to forget them and 20 chapters later he's already broken through a dozen times and it will never be any use. Author spends many chapters referencing an enemy, MC is super worried they will either capture his girls or ens*ave him... when they finally show up he just snorts at and ignores them because they are so weak and they never meet that character again. None of the girls (I think literally 0) after that event become romantic, he does however go back and hastily clean up all of the ones that he flirted with but never did anything... sometimes 4 at a time. 2-3 stars

The novel is not bad. It is sort like Against the God with your typical OP wuxia MC but without the reincarnation aspect which is sort is a let down for this novel. Many author tend to confuse will power with craftiness, the MC goes through great hardship at the beginning but for the rest of the story he has will power and all of the sudden becomes crafty, which doesnt make sense many times. Craftiness is gain through experience and interaction with people, thats why old aged character are... more>> considered crafty. But the MC all of the sudden learns to be crafty without a shred of innocence and he can trick those who are over a hundred years old.

It usually wouldnt be a problem for the novel if the most, if all, of the MC interaction with other character was not based of his craftiness.

A good part of the novel is that it explains dan making interestingly, different from other novels. <<less
