I amazed at how cliche this story is!

It turns into a cycle like this:

The MC had reached another level cultivation > met the Cannon Fodder who's stronger than him > got tr*shed and ridiculed in front of people and potential harem member > the indignant MC held a grudge toward the CF > the MC made a vow that he will kill the CF in the future > the MC entered his room and cultivate > after some months met once again with the CF > the MC tr*shed the... more>> CF and crippled or killed him in the public battle > people and potential harem member worship him as 'hero' > back to the start

That's all.

If you just sit idly at home without work to do and have too much time to spare, then this book is made for you. <<less

The plot is fairly common but the fight scene is terrible. There is no suspense to the fight it just whoever possesses more mammoths/dragons either from their cultivation lever or weapon or concept win. I don't understand what the points of attack/defensive skill at all since all it seems to be a math problem.

Pretty bad.. By 264 chapter he already in 3 different school and same sh*t repeat. Small character envy his harem or possession and got kick by MC then he let them go. They called young master, young master called his senior, senior called elder, elder call grand elder. Basically a 1000 years sect half destroy because of weakest member of the sect is greedy. Logically the sect should long destroy.

I swear, I never thought a MC deserves to die, more than this one. He is arrogant, and a complete idiot. He thinks he's the best when he hasn't got enough backing and every 20 chapters or so he would have died if not for some random character that befriends him that helps him clean things up, or the ppl don't act until he can defend himself cuz plot.

If u don't mind the plot armor, this novel isn't bad. The girls appear early, and they continue to go with him,... more>> even if that fact is used as trouble starting material along the way, and a lot of filler is omitted so there is always some fighting going on. If u'r not looking for something with depth, or u want something to fill the time, might as well give it a try, but don't expect much of it. <<less

Well, it's a generic xianxia with young master trampling through his way.

Nothing much to say, it's a mediocre novel. With repetetive plot.

Its lack of depth of understanding. Everything is easy as it said. Even you has knowledge, and no training it was useless. But in here, creating pills just like creating hot water. Hha.

But so far is interesting enough. And I like to follow the story.

Ill try to keep this short decided to write a review because I read to many bad ones. Ill focus on the main 2 reason why I'm reading this. If your undecided on reading this then hopefully I can convince you to read.

Plot

Same as all the other one the desire to be the strongest. It is really fast paced I'm up to chapter 215 and a lot has already happened that I don't know what's gonna happen next.

... more>> Main Character Duan Ling Tian

My opinion of him he's strong and not overpowered. He's usually always fighting people way stronger than himself so that's why I say he's not overpowered. I find him to be smart as he always takes precaution as he knows he's weak/ (not able to kill enemy) and find allies or finds a method to protect himself.

The Harem / Romance

Meets his first wife Ke Er rather early so there is a slow progression. She does see him as her savior and it is obvious that she likes him and he likes her. So as the story goes on you see little intimate actions such as holding hands, kissing and flirting.

His 2nd wife Li Fei he was more open with her his open flirting. There is progression here as well his first impression to her made him a pe*vert like everyone else. As they progress she see's him differently and slowly accepts him.

The other girls he shows interest but doesn't pursue them as he leaves it to fate.

I could say more but I don't want to go to long as I previously said. There's not many novels that I randomly pick and read till the point where I feel disappointed that I'm nearly up to date. Should of paced myself; do pace yourself if you read the novel. <<less

This is Xuanhuan on double speed fast forward.

By chapter 6, what takes other stories 50+ chapters, all the right cliche's have been dropped one after another without even a single hint of filler. Its like seeing a bullet point presentation with a good speaker spicing it up, but rushing out the content to finish it up by lunch. At least it slows down to just fast forward speed after c10 or so.

There is nothing original in it, shallow repeated characters/conversations we've all read before, and for that reason I can't... more>> give it a 4. Still can't help enjoying reading the story, as I like the genre. <<less

I basically don't write reviews so my review may not be review-like but bear with me.

The first thing I want to point out is that this novel is a standard xuanhuan. It is neither a parody nor a novel where you see unique things. No. This has many generic elements. So if you're one of those who are searching for something new, you are at the wrong place.

Let's start with characters.

... more>> Characters - 3.7/5

"The characters in the novel are not overly unique but they have their own motives."

The MC, again, is somewhat your usual xuanhuan MC. The one redeeming feature if I want to point out is that he is a very sensible and smart guy but not to the level of predicting everything with his palms. He is also mature and has the minimum decency to avoid a harem.

World-building- 5/5

Well, nothing much to say. The world building is one of the elements in wuxia that never disappoints.

Writing - 3.5/5

Frankly speaking, the writing is repetitive. It would have been a much better read if it wasn't.

Power systems - 5/5

This is the element I like the most about this novel. More accurately, I love how the MC levels up. This might be a weird thing to note but it's very interesting.

Spoiler

In the beginning, the MC can jump ranks in fights. But as the story progresses, the MC's strength comes to a point where he can hardly defeat someone of his own rank. Of course, this doesn't mean that the MC is weak. At some point, he obtains a super duper OP-cheat skill which depends on spiritual energy and not his cultivation.

At most, he can fight someone with a single rank higher than his own. But after he breaks through Martial Monarch realm, his ability to jump ranks increases exponentially.

It is very satisfying.

[collapse]

Overall, this novel is worth a read just for the power system. I would give it a solid 4.1/5 but I'm absolutely shocked by its low rating. Universally speaking, this novel should ATLEAST be 3.5. It definitely doesn't deserve a score of 2.9 <<less

War Sovereign Soaring the Heavens is a frustrating power-levelling light novel that essentially comprises of the following steps:

  1. Incompetent, arrogant, and/or profligate enemy stereotype
  2. MC kinda struggles
  3. MC powerups and smashes enemy
  4. Some sort of lady added to his increasing harem
Side characters are generated and culled left and right, most often not being justified in anyway other than leaving for an indefinite time before returning for plot's convenience. It is quite obvious all the author does is rinse and repeat the same plot structure, not really providing any novelty, decent backstory, or good writing.... more>> Anything that happens revolves around the MC, with NOTHING else happening in the world with exception to the MC's life.

Guarantee you will drop the book midway or after you discover the massive paywall to access chapters (which get unlocked every 1-2 weeks, so that's 1 chapter per 1-2 weeks), forcing you to spend money to read new chapters. <<less

Fun at first, disappointing after. MC's thought to be wise and intelligent but meh!!! He's the most unprofessional professional in the world of xianhuan. The story development is also the worst ever. The only good thing about it are the women. Read it to kill time.

Type of novel whose personality, and uniqueness degrades over countless chapters.

To be blunt. This novel is rubbish. It starts off promising, with all the unique characteristics, and features one could expect from a marvel of the xianxia world. Everything fleshes together so wonderfully, and cohesively. As time goes on, the protagonist loses his uniqueness, he becomes Just another righteous individual. He pretends to be selfish, but the reader can almost be assured that at every turn and point, he will be the knight in shining armour. Earlier uniqueness? Forget about... more>> it, since his new life has turned him into Just another xianxia protagonist drone. Fantastic! Great!

The romance in this story is much better than most. For one, it's not a bloated harem, but relationships created out of years of interaction. Beginning with selfish mutual-dependency as they may. Then again, this novel is rather picturesque example of masochism. For be warned, this protagonist adores to be called 'scoundrel' by his living instrument of releasing frustration. Furthermore, when it comes to women, the protagonist over time simply degrades into the common archetype. Pretty lass? Save her. Help her. Obey her every whim.

Other than that, it's Just mediocre. There's only so much of degradation the mind can take. Especially when it's beautiful potential, being ruthlessly ruined like so.

Would not recommend for those with high expectations. Would classify as 'no-women/man's land' for those whom feel the sting of betrayal every time another protagonist ventures on the path of redemption. <<less

There are some small flaws in the story, MC being able to earn money too easily compared to everyone else, enemies power levels lining up perfectly to match MCs growth so far, wrong names being used, in the first few chapters the MC is very rough with his opponents, crippling even own clan members.

Still, the story is getting better. I think before chapter 34, the novel is more like slice of life, after it it shows a bit of a direction MC will follow and the direction looks decent.

Overall it's... more>> solid, casual reading with potential to get better. <<less

Fast paced, similar to an anime skipping a few parts and only keeping the "important" parts.

But it is still interesting, though most of it is generic stuff. Already met his wife, jealous people seeking death, revenge (usually at 200+ chapters) and already met his estranged paternal family for the first time.

The most interesing part that im looking forward to is that there are over 2000 chapters and yet we've already gone through what would have happened for 300 chapters except for the cultivation part.

I won't say this novel is awful or anything but there's nothing really to it.

Cultivation speeds for different people make no particular sense the way the author explains it. Every fight in this novel thus far can be replaced by a math problem with a few extra words thrown in, for example: "I win because you are 4 and I am 5. What? You are actually 6? I guess I lose." Skills aren't important overall. Pointlessly added harem--maybe if it added something to the story for these women to like... more>> him it'd be better.

Some parts of it are cool like the premise and world. <<less

chapter 353 is exactly where I had to drop this novel at.

Spoiler

in chapter 128, li fei is spotted by some pe*verted young master, MC easily crushes the young master and the patriarch. So throughout the novel it's stated that li fei is goddess look even with a veil and MC just wants to brag that his wife is beautiful, in chapter 350 another young master found out she was beautiful but he gets killed by MC, turns out that the young master grandfather is like a realm above the MC and can do nothing to fight back, he gets saved by some random person he had a meal with and that's where I dropped the novel

90% of what I have read so far, so like 300 chapters have been MC getting in trouble because his "women" are so beautiful and people lust after them, but MC is keeps thinking " I got these people". After the first incident you'd figure they would get a mask to prevent themselves from getting into trouble because he is super weak when he steps into a new area. Rinse and repeat

[collapse]

novel is repetitive, no real goal for MC, MC is too c*cky and when he is about to die, plot armor, instead of getting killed, the attacker will talk to MC and then someone will save MC <<less

Summary:

Without a doubt, three different authors have written this novel; the outstanding author wrote the first 200 chapters, a mediocre author took the helm from chapters 300 to 400. And starting chapters 400 to 1238, I am almost sure that some tr*sh writer was contracted from r/s*avelabour and paid pennies to write repetitive garbage to lure readers on and on.

Plot and thoughts:

The plot is generic, but it's your typical cultivation stuff, enjoyable nonetheless. Initially, the novel progressed fast, but all that was thrown out of the window when the author... more>> decided 600 chapters worth of tournament arc (400-1000) were essential for the plot. I kid you not; If you skip chapters 400 to 1000, you will not miss anything.

After that, the author progresses the story by giving the MC at least four plot armours at a time. Every time he breaks through or achieves something meaningless in cultivation, the MC will ACCIDENTALLY meet someone hitting on his girl or some young master. He will kill these "bad guys" without fail, resulting in their ancestors and seniors chasing him ETC. You know the drill, and that's basically the novel in a sentence or two. STAY AWAY FROM THIS SHIT!

Conclusion:

I was forced to listen to this being read as part of a bet, and I failed; the novel made me contemplate su*cide for the first time since I left high school eight years ago. <<less

This novel is really, really forced the plot is basically a repetition : he kills some bad guy most of the time because of his womans are beautyfull and they think with their d**ks or they 're brainless petty villain who wants to kill the MC for almost nothing.

Then the [insert a sect/master/family/anything in relation with the victim] tries to kill the MC and doesn't listen to the reason at all why the said guy died and is killed by the MC most of the time or the MC is saved because of plot armor. Then this guy sect/master/family/any fuc**ing thing possible try to take revenge and some powerfull guy or not is left allive or left few days before they are all killed become an antagonist after fortuitous encounter and stay in the story to make the MC stronger faster and repeat for few tens or hundreds chapters.

Tournaments are a problem they are long most of the time there is at least ten of them since the begenning of the novel to 1200ish.

The power interpretation is confusing with the mammoth and dragons in some of the chapter between concepts, spirit weapon, origin energy and all there is mike 20 line of explication to explain why this guy has 2000 dragons. Weapons are a too big factor in this novel and it's weird because it look like a mmorpg with equipement quality and few skills.

The MC act high and mighty all the time and is astonished when people threaten or kill people he knows become of him. This is an annoying side of his personnality

Side characters : most of them are forgettable

His mother is a good character in my standards she is a little usefull for the plot

His father is a little a prick we see him like 20 chaps and when he leaves even if he is powerfull gave him a little insurance for is life and if he dies too bad for the MC not that good of a dad

The womans :

  • Ka er is a little cute but bland the typical shy loyal girl with not that much of a personnality
  • Li fei has a stong peronnality at the beginnig but disappear after he is together with her for some time
  • Feng tian wu is like a maiden in love because of fate most of the novel and is introduced to pity her at the beginning in my view (she dies if she is not strong enough at the age of 30) and the MC is supposed to be her fated one.

I don't know if this is the translation or if this is like that in the raws but there is a lack of expressions and they are not at where they should be like when a character says he shot himselt in the foot but where did they get this expression when there is no gun in the martial world and there is the " she looked so red that blood could drip at any moment from her face " this expression is EVERYWHERE in the novel when a girl is shy.

The intergration of the memory is wtf the guy 400+ years soul dies because the soul of the MC is not from this world duh.

Well thats all that is in my mind and it is just my viewpoint about this novel but I don't recommend

Let me put it this way. The Martial Competition of the Ten Dynasties (aka tournament arc) is introduced in chapter 485 and concludes in chapter 830. Also, at the end of that 400 chapter slog, the MC joins a sect and then another tournament arc to decide the top members of the sect immediately begins.

So, you know, take that however you will.

The author's obsession with long boring tournaments aside, the novel is also very poorly plotted. Novels like this are usually released with daily schedules so it's understandable I guess,... more>> but that doesn't change the facts. For example: In an early arc, MC goes to the capital of the kingdom he was born in and stirs up trouble everywhere, causing Nascent Soul experts to come and try to kill him one after another, and he uses magical inscriptions to dispatch them all easily. Then, in the arc immediately following that one, MC goes to join a sect and all of his conflicts are with Origin Core experts (the tier BELOW Nascent Soul). Of course, the author makes it so MC is unwilling to use his magical inscriptions as a way of injecting tension into the scenario, but it really feels like his power-level has regressed. Wouldn't it have made more sense for the arc with foes who are mainly at Nascent Soul Stage come after the arc with foes mainly at the Origin Core Stage? I think so at least. The way it is now feels like going backwards.

And this is actually a reoccurring problem. The author will often give MC unique abilities and powers (like the magical inscriptions in the arc I mentioned before) and then one day arbitrarily decide he doesn't like them anymore and either just completely stop mentioning them (like his martial technique to vibrate his enemies to death), make up some bogus in-universe explanation for why they won't work anymore (like his inscriptions which apparently can't kill anyone who has comprehended Concept as of ch500, but then are shown to easily be able to kill people with Concept in ch1000 since the author has forgotten by then), or else have some random act of plot take them away from MC irrecoverably (like MCs "soul brand" which he had for hundreds of chapters until the author decided he was bored of it and a random backlash from some formation instantly and completely destroys it with no hope of recovery). That last example was particularly egregious since the formation that destroyed MCs until-then final trump card was actually a formation that his former reincarnation from 10000 years in the past had personally designed, but somehow he didn't notice a lethal backlash mechanism embedded in it while he was tampering around until after it nearly killed him.

Another knock against this story is that the cultivation system is sort of absurd. In this universe, when a martial cultivator fights his or her power-level is immediately exposed by illusory images of mammoths/dragons/black dragons appearing over their heads. 10, 000 mammoths equals 1 dragon, and 10, 000 dragons equals 1 black dragon, and so on and so forth. Then their weapons give them percentage boosts of mammoths or dragons depending on the grade of the weapon. For example, a Grade One weapon will give a boost of 85-90%, meaning if a fighter has 1, 000 dragons bare-handed they will have 1, 900 dragons while wielding the weapon. Also, martial cultivations have to comprehend various Concepts to advance, and the more Concepts they master the stronger they are, and Concepts also manifest as mammoths or dragons depending on their level - but Concept mammoths and dragons aren't affected by weapons.

Does that sound convoluted? Well, you better get used to reading about it. A lot.

Because every time anyone fights, the author has to dedicate about a million words to describe their weapon, their Concepts, and their cultivation level to tally up how many mammoths or dragons they have and see how they compare with their opponent. This not only pads the wordcount significantly, it also sucks a lot of the fun out of the fight scenes. Fights in this story aren't about cool techniques or magical powers, they're about a boring math equation where the two sides punch in [Cult Lv. + (Cult Lv.*Wep Grade) + Concept1 + Concept2 +... FinalConcept], then they both get a number, and the one with the bigger number wins. At the point in the story where I finally dropped it, fight scenes were literally just "Wow, MC has 5 black dragons, but his 6 opponents only have 4 black dragons each, he can cut through them like tofu!"

On another note, I have to say that the fighters in this universe have absurdly (unrealistically) good eye-sight since they can all apparently immediately distinguish how many hundreds, thousands, or tens of thousands of illusory animals are appearing over each other's heads mid-battle.

But ultimately the reason I'm giving this story such a low rating is because reading it was just too frustrating. The MC just constantly makes really s*upid mistakes (like, in a world that has secret voice transmissions, saying OUT LOUD, that he's just exhausted his final trump card killing some strong guy, even though he KNOWS that the strong guy wasn't the only one from that faction of people who hated him and might have come to find him... and then immediately after he finishes speaking another strong guy comes out of the shadows wanting blood...), and even when he isn't making s*upid mistakes he's still pretty much always on the losing end. His friends and wives randomly pop in and out of the story as people much stronger than him/them take interest in them and whisk them away. His 2 wives get abducted into some stronger sect early in the story and he spends like 1000 chapters before he's strong enough to go get them back, only to end up missing them by a matter of minutes upon his arrival and them disappearing again. Then the other girl who follows him around also catches the eye of some powerhouse and gets taken away like 100 chapters after that. Funnily, after catching the eye of that powerhouse who is only a "little" stronger than MC, while being held captive by him another even stronger powerhouse happens by her prison, notices the third girl, and then takes him away with her... it's just the same garbage plot points repeating over and over again, and it's frustrating and unfun to read. So I stopped. <<less

Normally I wouldn’t drop a novel used to pass time, but this one turned into a waste of time instead, lol. There’s just no depth here, be it in characters (all the characters, especially the MC, are not just shallow and ret*rded but annoying too), story, world building, power system or whatnot.

As you can guess just by looking at the number of chapters, things drag themselves (probably cause of money for word count or something like this) in idiotic cliches of “and everyone was impressed by how the MC is... more>> so powerful/intelligent/beautiful”, monologues of a new girl saying how she is envious of the MC girlfriend for having him and “why not her?” and the old thing of MC kills someone and the ancestor/patriarch/whatever appears to take revenge.

Spoiler

Now it seems a new plot about his main gf/wife being the reincarnation of a goddess will “develop”, and perhaps leaving for another world will show how exceptional his cultivation system of nine dragons is, but it will probably be done the same way all the story was and I just don’t care anymore, haha.

[collapse]

I sincerely wouldn’t recommend, but as it’s not a torture like NTR or something like this you would at most waste time. <<less

Alright. This novel is unintentionally or intentionally very unorthodox and interesting. When I started this, I thought that it was another wish-fulfillment stuff and I was not completely wrong. But hear me out, the way the story presents itself, its randomness and the journey itself is something extremely rare. The writing and style is simplistic but effective. The characters... well, let's not comment on that. But the antagonists aren't hateful. That's not to say that they're smart or have a backstory. No, just that they aren't hateful enough to grit... more>> your teeth in frustration.

With that being said, I have no complaints with the novel and would wholeheartedly continue the novel maybe because I got fascinated with the random element or simply because I had little expectations from it.

In a way, you can call this novel - "MGA but it's good". That's the best way I can describe it.

From an objective POV, it's about average and I can understand people for not liking it but the novel just doesn't let me drop. I tried dropping this a few times but whenever that happened, a sudden event would occur which changes my mind and I keep reading.

There are two things which are genuinely praiseworthy about this novel - it's pacing and lighthearted parts. They are genuinely good. <<less
