I Try.
I Read.
I Cringed so badly.

Yes, I understand that this is kind of "Fan-fiction", but! Mixing Chinese culture with western is seriously no-go. You can tell the thickness of typical Chinese novel, it was forced, one sided character, and "hahaha, you think I'm weak, I will beat your ass because my plot armor". I think, this story just to be made for Author self interest. I've read a quite few harry potter fanfic in internet, there is good one and also not good (bad) and this one is... more>> the not good one.

Well, if you don't mind the boldness of plot-armor and 2d character which only serve as to make MC 'awesome' or 'kind but bad-ass' then go ahead!

0/5 star but I can't rate it 0 and also the translation did nothing wrong so 1 star. <<less

EDIT: I’ve been editing this along the way as the chapters progressed.

(4th of April)

Right... The buzz was kinda killed after he acquired a wand at Ollivander’s waaayyy before the usual age of 11... I’m not sure if the philosophy of “let the child play with the matches, he’ll learn once he’s burned his hands – even if this in the wizard-world means potentially incinerating Muggles” was common in the 1980’s, or if this is just your typical plot-armor.

I had expected a least a little responsibility from the surrounding... more>> characters... seems like I had forgotten this is a Chinese reincarnation novel.

The familiar characters and newly introduced side-characters are more s*upid than your average doormat (doormat because the MC steps all over them intellectually with his superior charms... this guy is obviously a Machiavellian) with a degree of naivety, lack of worry or suspicion and one-dimensional character description which I’ve seen again and again throughout most of the terrible light novels. Apparently, besides from what we already know from the original series of Harry Potter, they have no more depth than a tiny cup.

Not to forget the author’s portrayal of the MC’s happy-go-lucky and loving parents, who seem to have no idea of what their child is doing. There’s no signs of parental worries in sight. Only incomprehensible worship and endless love from your typical light novel parent who is intended to be forgotten as soon as the MC leaves the nest.

Spoiler

Despite what you would expect from a child who is far from the teens, the MC manages to defy physical and mental abilities of focused concentration, e.g. such as reading the entire Hogwarts curriculum in 1 year and 6 months, just because the MC is this freaking awesome.

But hey, the MC got an awesome kitty and owl. Although, to my huge confusion, he feeds the cat with meat. Just because...

[collapse]
My initial interest was quickly shot down, as already in chapter 7 the usual MC plot armor and “awesomeness” has been the major part of the story. As other reviewers have said, this is just your usual Author-insertion, Mary Sue / Gary Stu garbage.

What initially piqued my interest was how the fan-fiction author would portray the familiar world from a new point of view, but... yeah...

Spoiler

Also, chapter 7 seems to be the introduction of one of the future, typical one-dimensional future harem-members. By now I only anticipate a fanfiction where the MC completely breaks havoc in the original series with his thick plot-armor and the typical Chinese MC charisma+seductive abilities of “being nice, and then being a ruthless psychopath”

[collapse]
So, 1/5 from me now. I consider speed reading through the following chapters, but I doubt I’ll truly enjoy it.

(31st of March)

Definitely, definitely interesting!

If you’ve read Harry Potter, give this a try. The chapters are short and a light read, however they catch you immediately.

The only downside to this fanfiction, is the remnants of the Chinese culture. The author is Chinese, and the interactions between the few introduced characters so far (reviewed up to chapter 3) has had a lot of Chinese expressions (e.g. calling strangers “big sister”) unique to Chinese novels embedded in dialogues, which is kind of odd, considered the MC voiced he has spent many years on integrating himself in England’s culture.

This downside is purely my own subjective opinion, as I’ve come to detest Chinese light novels after reading too much xianxia and wuxia.

So despite my bias, I still give this a 5/5 based on the few chapters translated so far. <<less

I see. I try. I love.

Great series. However, I would not recommend it to Harry Potter fan boys because...

every great wizard in the original story seems extremely week, compared to OP main character

This novel is a bit problematic to judge, Harry Potter fanfics are generally (imho) bad. To my surprise this one turned out quite nice, I got dragged in and even read raws. Mix of Chinese culture and European?... Yes, it is painful in some parts, but as soon as you get over the beginning it becomes an extremely entertaining read. Especially interesting is drawing both Riddle and Dumbledore as villains (or in case of Dumbledore as quite ruthless plotter - using leglimency without any care, trying to make a child drink veritaserum (apparently causes damage, if drunk before adulthood).

[collapse]

Would I recommend it? Yes, without any doubts. But, would I start reading it now? If, you wish to wait for translation, then yes but if you are going to read raws... Author went on period of inactivity (updates are possible, but not promised) until summer at the very least. As of now story is stuck on cliffhanger, which is quite vexing.

Read ahead a bit in the raws and stopped at the house selection - and was really disappointed, either by what the hat said or the house chosen. It is probably going to be an OP self-righteous MC kind of story as many xianxia out there, with a lot of cliche situations. It could have been something a lot more original.

When I first came across this I was kind of skeptical, but decided to give it a try. The truth, I really liked it. It does have a lot of cliches, but come on, the very name of the novel indicates that it will be like this. Those of us who grew up reading HP (or at least in my case) must have thought once or twice about getting the acceptance letter from Hogwarts, and this is combined with a reincarnation plot that gives you a good laugh.

So, if... more>> you want a profund novel, that is really different from what you will get here. But it is a nice read, and it does have a good understanding of the HP world, especially so if you keep in mind that the MC is quite calculating, and has a very different type of view of the world than the HP characters. <<less

If you can ignore the iteration of harry potter and those cringy moments, the story and lore are very well done.

Call it a Fan Fiction of a weak to strong MC living in the Harry Potter world. You must agree that the world of JK Rowling's Harry Potter is, in fact, full of meaning other than the greater focus on HP himself. That's what I like about this FanFic: Explore the world of Harry Potter with the constant dark shadows, nightmares and obviously-not-PG horrors, but throw in the Xianxia heroes... more>> of epic growths and you have Harry Potter and the Rise of the (Epic) Ordinary Person.

Approach with an open mind and a flexible judgement!
But of course, the translation quality is through the roof, so it'll be a nice pastime read. <<less

It's just bad. You can find 7584920879032 fanfictions that are EXACTLY like thing, but with more understandable references and with a lack of the absolutely idiotic chinese cliches.

If you want to read this story, just go to fanfiction net instead, you'll find things that are much better, or on par with this story. You won't find anything worse, because after the very beginning this story is just garbage.

I can't believe it got published, if it did. It feels like it was written by a twelve year old who wants a... more>> bigger pen*s. <<less

Pretty good, I liked the Harry Potter series plus I like xianxia. While the meshing of 2 cultures, especially Western and Chinese spells disaster as long as I remind myself that this isn’t canon it’s cool. I think most haters are trying to compare it to the greatness that is Harry Potter and forget that this ISN'T HARRY POTTER. As long as you do this and treat it as a stand alone story it could grow on you. The translator is good, at first they did 1 chapter a day... more>> which as difficult as translating is can be considered good but after 10 or so its become like 4 chapters a week so im thinking its because finals <<less

I Like it a lot. It has style, good translators, humour and the author seems to have committed the Harry Potter novels to heart or sumin, so you don’t have to worry about plot holes. I await more. I will give a rating later

The story really good. Even after knowing what will happen from Harry Potter movie, I still anticipating what will the MC do. And how many story will the MC alter.

But the thing about MC was Chinese before reincarnated make me feel weird.

The story seems promising.

The only thing is that the beginning is somewhat rushed, but that’s not necessarily too bad considering the target audience is already tired of reading the same things over and over on other Chinese novels and the audience is also familiar with the Harry Potter world.

Once again, it’s still early to say something more concrete, but the story definitely seems very promising and funny.

A blatant Gary Stu self-insert. If I want to read a Harry Potter fanfiction with a Gary Stu OC as the MC I'll go read any of the many tr*sh fanfic on ffn. And let's not forget about the idiocy of using Chinese-culture-kind-of stuff on a fanfic based on western word.

This is surprisingly good albeit only 2 chapters so far lol. If you have been looking for a good Harry Potter fanfic that include cultivation and time travelling trope and thought Harry is actually someone who wasted his opportunities learning magic, this might be a story for you. I wish he will be in Slytherin or Hufflepuff.

edit: I have read up to chapter 24th and it's really disappointing.

I find the story very interesting, especially since the values of the main character and those in the story of Harry Potter are drastically different, leading me to conclude hilarious outcomes. Only, I am not sure why this is considered a novel, and not a fanfic.

Well, this novel seem pretty interesting. It's the typical novel about world transfert, with some cheat power, but into the one of Harry Potter. Let's wait to see how it will develop.

I just finished reading the first chapter and it has has a very cool concept.

Spoiler

It’s basically about an average guy who has been transported into the world of Harry Potter, a few years before the first book in the series take place. He has somehow gained the magical abilities of a wizard and knows he will soon be invited to enter Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizarding during the same year as someone else we know. What makes things interesting is because he basically knows about everything that is soon going to fall onto the Wizarding World, so he must prepare by using his knowledge in Harry Potter Lore and other advantages to be one-step-ahead of everyone before he even takes a step into the Wizarding World and meets its supposedly “main protagonist”.... Harry Potter!

I’ll wait for more translated chapters before I read on any further but so far, it has caught my attention. <<less

This novel seems to have mostly two types of people who visit it. Those who love it and those who don't. In my opinion, this seems to be a typical junk novel (as in junkfood) and I really like it. It's slightly comical and an interesting read. I like how they didn't make the main character disrupt the original story of Harry Potter (so far) while still inserting him into the trio. However, a complaint I have with the story is that it's too fast paced. They glaze over so... more>> many of the juicy details that it all seems to be a detailed summary instead of a novel. Overall, it's a good read if you keep an open mind and have time to spare. <<less

There are two running dialogues/narratives. The author comments on the HP universe. The MC is at times a stand-in for the author, and at other times the perspective of "I would have done that".

It doesn't differ with the story of HP (usually) because the MC wants to preserve his knowledge of the future, as well as being scared of the powerful figures that could catch on to his nuanced meddling.

btw, did not read HP, only watched the movies.
