Kuishinbo Elf

Description

I was reading web novels at home when suddenly I realized that I was standing fully naked in an unknown forest

Moreover, I had turned into a blonde-haired, blue-eyed young elf girl! What’s the meaning of this?! However, not only did there come no answer, I don’t even remember who I was!

I have no important memories of my previous life! Neither do I have the cheat power seen frequently during reincarnation!

What I have is my appetite, curiosity and ability to go naturally with the flow of events.

I wasn't expecting it to get good, pleasantly surprised.

Grammar: 1.7/5 (Formerly a 2.5~3/5)
Writing: 2.5/5
Story: 3.5/5

(Update as of Chapter 38: Grammar is slowly taking that downhill slide. The story is slowly starting to get predictable, with plot devices being used almost the chapter after they are introduced. There is a sense of instant gratification that is being used to quickly fill in the plot now that things have progressed so quickly. I don't find the grammar to be too unbearable despite my low score, I only rate... more>> it harshly because the tenses jump back and forth between past and present almost every other sentence.)

The grammar is passable at it's worst and fairly good starting from Chapter 6 onward (definitely a translator hard at work here). The writing style of the author is about standard. The part that allowed me to enjoy this series thus far has been the story finally taking an upswing into a slightly darker tone. I really look forward to what this author can bring out in his world.

All-in-all, I appreciate the effort the Translator goes through, and hopes he takes this series to it's eventual completion. I'm really rather enjoying this series. <<less

This novel is painfully dissatisfying. Right from the start it appears to be drawn out slice of life and continues to be the same. Everything is so slow and nothing makes sense. MC is useless and weak, does not have personality and just gets dragged around by everyone. She has this amazing healing ability that she does nothing interesting with, but her overall uselessness just negates even that... She does not have brains, talent for martial arts, magic, or even basic physical strength. On top of this whole thing, this... more>> novel does not have fluff, cute stuff or anything of the sort. Not that much comedy either and absolutely zero adventure so far. And the writing after chapter 20 or so just became incoherent rumbling. It's like the author is the same age as the MC in the novel (5 y.o.). I can't find the reason to read this...

Spoiler

So she meets the ghost of the noble girl adventurer who was betrayed, r*ped and killed. MC inherits all her knowledge and memories, including magic and martial arts. But apparently, for some reason, she still has to go to school? She doesn't know a lot of common sense, like what is a healer association. Why doesn't she have a theory about magic and weapons already? Why can't she do stuff that the nobel girl could?

And finally.... When that peach-senpai appeared... I stopped reading this sh*t novel...

This story started being fun and comedic then the talking peachs started to appear and I just couldn't stomach the story anymore.

Not to mention the author keep changing things to make the MC weaker and weaker.

600 chapters of pure frustration. I am OCD about finishing what I start and actually reading the whole novel and this one killed me. Around chapter 150 I started reading every 5th chapter, then every 10th and found I was missing absolutely nothing, except possibly pain over the s*upidity of the MC.

How s*upid Is The MC ?

The MC is literally the greatest doctor in the world. Strongest in magical ability, has an understanding of modern medicine, and can enhance the abilities of other healers.

Brags about getting a salary of $45/day

Knows this is about a 1/4 the salary of an average person and likely makes them the lowest paid person there.

It's not the first or the last time the author tosses the idiot ball at you and it does get considerably worse.

The only reason this doesn't get a one star is that the translation is very good, and the MTL is rather readable as well. <<less

A very good surprise. The story is pretty slow at the beginning and the kind of wierd silly writing doesn't help to keep attention. But it gets more and more pleasing to read as it's distinguish itself from a typical reincarnation-into-an-another-world light novel (where a team of op heroes would be going into the demon king's den for the finale battle) by rather focusing more on the military doctor side of this sort of conflict.

Also, the perspective from the childish protagonist metting a bunch of very cliché cheaty reincarnaned heroes... more>> spoof light novels and add a charming and amusing tone.

On the other hand, it's pretty hard to tell were the story is heading, the protaginist is often stuck in one place for multiples chapters and there is not much background about the world or any character.

Thus, it's a rather pleasing story, it's a bit light, satiric, but it's interesting and fairly enjoyable. <<less

It was great... until the peaches started talking and doing things. It was fine as an otherwise OP healing item and trademark food but giving sagely magical advice and other similar things is taking things too far.

I can deal with everything else except the accursed talking peaches.

Rated it 2* because the start-ish was great-ish even if plot is substandard. I mean, what else are you expecting from a gag series?

A nice comedy with some serious scenes sprinkle into it. The pacing is slow in the beginning and the MC stays in one area for a long time.

If your going to read this, my only advice is that you must not take it seriously. If you can do this then you will enjoy it.

It started well but after around chapter 25 went downhill. I'd give it a solid 7/10 and 4 stars, since honestly compared to some novels rated at 3.5 it's still not bad, but if author continues like that it'll become 3 stars in 20 chapters or so.

More info under the spoiler tag, which ofcourse contains a lot of spoilers.

The problem is while for the first 25 chapters MC is drafted as a healer during the war with the Demon Lord and becomes quite hardcore about it, later the author decides to quickly finish the on-going conflict to justify throwing MC into school. MC herself states that the only reason is to get a few friends her age (wait, weren't you a man in his thirties before reincarnating? You sure you need to be friends with elementary schoolers?). But when author's desire for fluff is involved both logic and character's traits become affordable sacrifices. MC goes to school incognito (because turns out she treated people in a mask, and the fact that saint-sama is a white elf, the only white elf in a town for the last few centruries miraculously didn't made it to public). Then things get angsty because MC has no talents besides healing magic, but for some reason the previously hardworking MC does surprisingly little to improve the situation. There's a scene where she couldn't find a suitable weapon for herself because everything is either heavy or requires high proficiency, but the idea of trying the most basic weapon - a dagger - never crosses her mind. Coincidentally few chapters later they are out on a hunting trip and she casually disembowels a dozen of pig-rabbits.

When I thought that things are starting to get interesting the translated chapters end, and at the very end it turns out that a fruit she casually conjured before on many occasions - "peachy-sensei" - went to World Peachy Conference and peachy-sempai was called instead, and these fruits can talk, even shares the intel on her enemy and suggests the way to defeat him. Fruit ex machina. This is some serious bullshit.

I think this story perfectly lives up to my expectations, with the title being "Kuishinbo (Gluttonous) Elf" and the description being "I was standing fully naked in an unknown forest... What I have is my appetite, curiosity and ability to go naturally with the flow of events" it doesn't exaggerate or try to hype itself up like similar stories often do, I don't really know what the people who gave this 1/5 or 2/5 were expecting.

what I expected was a slow paced story of s*upid weird gluttonous elf going on... more>> a s*upid weird gluttonous adventure, and that's exactly what I got, if your looking for something s*upid and random to pass the time (with the occasional pinch dark or serious plot) I recommend this, If you want a story focused on world building where everything is fast paced, and an OP blank slate protagonist... might wanna look elsewhere bud this ain't for you. <<less

Loved it when it started, but just like any other stories it goes flat (or sometimes down) after some time.
The characters are good, some are cute, some are annoying (as usual) but that's about it I guess? It does get boring after some time, I find myself amusing that I could keep up to the 70th chapter.

A slice of life novel. It's actually pretty meh. The reincarnation seemed to have done away her smarts, if she had any in her past life. The writing is also pretty atrocious plot-wise. It seems like the author is writing chapter by chapter giving weak excuses for plotholes.

Spoiler

It was mentioned that she went to school for a chance to make more friends because she had none. But then she mentioned that she had a dark elf friend she made during her time as a healer.

She went to eat at food stalls. But later it was mentioned that she had a mask on during her consideration of going to school. As if you could eat through a mask.

Setting her talent to be E rank for magic seems to be very arbitrary and not necessary.

Revising my review because I got around and have been reading other light novels. To be blunt, it would have been better if the MC was a girl from the beginning, or reincarnated as a young boy. Being a gender bender does nothing except a free pass to ero comedy, except, that only happens until the MC goes to school. Once the MC goes to school, you are not only sucker punched with the Slice of Life tag, but it starts to feel like a Boku no Hero Acedamia rip off: You got these kids with superpowers going to school, and whenever they go outdoors for a hot minute, sh*t happens and now they are in a near-death scenario.

For whatever reason, the author decided it was a good idea for some side characters to have a crush on the MC. I wouldn't know if it was for dramatic irony or what, but it's a flat out pointless. The MC shows no signs of becoming more effeminate

And then theres this magical talking peach. Don't get me started on this god damn fruit because it's a black hole for a plot hole.

[collapse]

There are many ways the light novel would improved if, for example, a timeskip happened after the Demon King arc, and a plague spreads across the nation. As a result, the MC has to synthesize a cure. Anything other than the SoL bs, and more roleplaying as a healer. 3/5 stars.
