This story seems to be getting a lot of bad reviews for no other reason then him getting sold into s*avery shortly after becoming an adventurer. I can understand why people would see it that way but I don’t agree. To me it makes perfect sense that that could happen to him since almost all of his knowledge is from his previous world where s*avery is virtually non-existent and his knowledge of and experience with the s*ave business in the new world is almost none.

Well to be honest I was still upset when it did happen cause he had such a good grove going there and I wasn’t expecting something like that to happen but what really upset me is loosing his engagement bangle. Well even with that I feel like everything recovered quite well. I feel that it was an excellent segue for the next parts of the story where he meets his second wife and so on. What most disappointed me during the part where he was a “s*ave”, if you can even call his experience that of a s*ave, was that there was no gun building or training for a while. Well it was made up for with him training his body, which was much needed for him to become a better “hero” in the future in my opinion but I still wish there had been some gun building or at least had him working on blueprints or something for the future. Oh well, I still really enjoy this story and am looking forward to the next chapters everyday!

tldr: dum dum japanese MC gun jesus

The title is correct. You got a gun nerd that for some reason know how to make guns and he did.

For the sake of my sanity let's not discuss how s*upid he was at his peak, you know why when you read it yourself so let's ignore it.

So pointing out the gun crafting. Put it simply, it's weird. he seems to be adamant about using earth's standard despite not having a ruler *lol* reincarnated alongside with him. Like how do you know your self... more>> proclaimed.38 spc is actually.38 cal?.

It seems the author train of thought is: build gun A, it uses ammunition A, and no exception is made. That's a good try on "trying to make sense" but unfortunately, unconvincing for me. It's careless on the author side when he make MC brood over one cartridge and another, it tells us how our author is lacking in both knowledge and confident.

I use cartridge A because making a gun that uses that cartridge B is idk... complicated. Now holdup for a sec, I thought you make the gun, from a scratch, by yourself, with your own mind. Why the hell he suddenly make a statement like he dropped his brain in his luxurious toilet? can't he make his own ideal cartridge or something? can't he tweak the gun in some way so that it feed the cartridge he made? I mean, you could even say he engineered the gun.

Again, idk but he does look pretty capable on creating belt feed automatic grenade launcher.

Okay then, what about the lethality of the weapon? the usual, it works very well against monster, but against human it barely even lethal. There's time when MC patrol the city with ak, about to shoot a baddy but afraid for overpenetration, well then why bring it in the first place.

What about logistics? or supply lines? right now, although barely, he does have members worth a platoon counting members armed with ak. let's see... loli elf infinite storage cheat? magical distribution plan?

It's an okay read I have to say, quite unusual, firearm webnovel is rarity on it's own. Was it memorable? nah... <<less

I have to echo the statements that the story was interesting at first but it became predictable and bland later on as it focused on harem elements. The story would have stayed a good read if only the author retained the tendency of the MC to focus on the tasks at hand as shown in the earlier chapters. He wanted something done, he would concentrate on that alone.

As for the romance just the MC and the first heroine being paired was more than enough. But like SAO, the element of... more>> romance was destroyed completely by the incomprehensible desire to create a character who would surround himself with women and have a raging boner towards said women.

We know you're an undesirable person in life who died a virg*n. Get over it. Having yourself being surrounded by women who would love you for no reason is not very compelling to hear. Romance as written by those who don't even know it in the first place.

The appeal of the Isekai genre or any story that involves the protagonist/s being transported to another world is to see how a person from our world would react and to see what they will do to survive. To see how they do what they can to make the best out of the situation with nothing more than what they have.

The essence of a story is to create conflict so that a protagonist will rise to up the challenge. They may or may not win but that what it makes it interesting in the first place. Failure to do that, takes the life out of a story. Risk and reward, simple words that would mean so much if properly incorporated into story telling.

This story got that element in the beginning but failed to do so in the succeeding chapters. Due to its nature as a webnovel I may perhaps lay the blame on the readers who have probably hijacked the story by demanding the character be tailored to their desires and make it easier for them to insert themselves as the character.

I've seen this happen on many stories published online. Though if it's true, it is also failure on the author's part to stay true to the story he wanted to tell. The story had promise and potential that was ruthlessly squandered by turning into yet another mass-produced piece of low-quality literature. <<less

I have read the web novel (translated and Japanese) until the end of volume 9 and so far its interesting to me. There’s some long explanation of history of firearms so if you don’t like it you might find it boring. The s*ave part might look dark but after the MC meet his second wife and try his best during that part it will become more interesting. Might be some different with the LN though. So far as I read... he gain more fame, money and more wife, develop grenade launcher, machine gun, landmines etc, beat twin dragon, basilisk, save kingdom, become noble and so on. Since he is not really op for me and not really interesting I give 3.5/5.

At first, this story had a lot of ups and downs. Start off dark, then light hearted, then dark, then light hearted....

But, by now things have somewhat stabilized and I don't know if thats a good thing or not.

Spoiler

His freind's su*cide due to bullying and then his mu*der was very grim, but then we get treated to a second childhood and MC is early genius to invent guns and whatnot. He even gets engaged to his new childhood friend. Then, he's betrayed robbed and sold into s*avery. However thats okay as they aren't that bad.

[collapse]

The author also likes to use gags where what you were expecting doesn't happen... Its kinda like making the audience spit take as they come out of nowhere and are usually based on a quickly cleaned up misunderstanding.

Spoiler

Snow (his childhood friend from the orphanage) and him are about to turn too old to stay in the orphanage and must leave. Before they do 12 year old Snow summons up her courage and confesses to the MC "Please make me your s*x s*ave!" Well, they clear that up and MC marries her instead.

[collapse]

Well, anyway, the major good point of this story is that its funny interactions between characters. They are truly cute... when they happen. When action happens everyone's character except for MC seems to disappear except for a few 'and that person did something' over there mentions.

Beyond that the plot is as generic as can be... ancient evil defeated long ago... boy from earth reborn in the fantasy one... vague chosen one prophecy... cute girl harem... Its all been done before, but its a shame that the first chunk of the story which focused on slice of life ordinary every day struggles was a strength this story had greatly. But it turns away from that because hey, a world ending evil needs to happen.

This story has already gotten a manga about it (although the artist made the girls' blushing look ugly as h*ll), and I expect an anime sometimes soon. That is simply on the basis of how already anime series-like the plot structure seems to be. Of course how Smartphone got an anime before this one I won't know. <<less

Queues typically not a bad novel with a hero fan guns. Places of interest, and not bad, but there are whole arch outright boredom. Not only the text, chapter reads very quickly and easily, the style of narration is very simple and naive. Geroy places not far to the extreme, not to say that the hero is in love potions in their wives and romance lame. There are not pretentious humor, the story is weak and the potential is not great. I hope the author does not get lost in... more>> the future, the few advantages, that is. Otherwise, the product will be a complete failure. Rated 3 star and 6 tenths of a star, but this is the ceiling for such stories. <<less

Great research done on weaponry. Story-wise seems very contrived. The author go to great lengths to engineer situations involving modern firearms and make them excel. Magics and magicians are made into sacrificial lambs to the cold hard sniper rifle.

More could be done to make it less contrived.

Main Character comes from a modern world into a fantasy world. Alright cool, what can he do you ask.. Make guns.
We follow the MC as he grows up and gains the attention of many people.

The story and premise is unique in it's own way, the only thing I believe is lacklust is the fact that it feels rushed in the romance department. But that's another matter. The translations is going at a decent pace so I'll just a say give it a try if you like these "Modern world... more>> person transported after death to another world" type story with its own twist. <<less

MC - Is he a beta or not

I usually start a review by assessing if the MC is a dense beta because there is almost nothing more irritating. So in this case, mostly no.

The yes part - I guess it wasn't really necessary so far, but MC does seem reluctant to go for the kill. He (and his party) has refrained where it would have been very reasonable. Japanese authors, please learn it's OK for MC to kill people when reasonable, even if he's not an anti-hero. Naugumo Hajime shot... more>> one of his classmates in front of his teacher and threw another into a raging horde of demons and the earth didn't shatter.

On the other hand, he's not afraid to fight, nor of accepting affection from a girl if he really likes her.

Harem

Normally I like small harems or just one FL. Otherwise it's becomes the equivalent of one-night stands with faceless cardboard cutouts.. So far, he has two wives. He spent years with both and does seem to really love them. There are a lot of other women around that he's clearly not interested in, even if he finds them attractive,

Worldbuilding

It's more of a western fantasy world rather than the standard issekai game world. There is no god that grants cheat abilities. There is also no levelling system. Otherwise fantasy monsters and races exist Magic exist too, but people are limited by inborn talent. MC has very little inborn magic, but he's a gun otaku and uses his little magic for that purpose.

Plot - General

It's not bad for a WN. MC's goal is to travel around and help others. Some time is spent in the early chapters (before reincarnation) to set up his motivations. So far it seems he;s getting swept up in his circumstances rather than by his will, but he does end up helping people.

Plot - s*upidity

There is this bit where the captain of the guard betrays the house. I've got no problem with his motivation. But then, when his side ultimately loses, he's suddenly been sorry all along to the point of offering to commit su*cide. JFC author. But of course, he's given a penance rather than being killed on the spot.

Concerns - which I'be seen in other reviews

Not everything is smooth sailing. Bad stuff does happen to the MC and others, but not irrevocably so. There is no NTR or BL or TS or anything close to it, nor is there any break ups. MC is ens*aved for roughly 2 years and separated from the FL if I have my timelines right. To be fair, the separation (not ens*avement) was planned in advance by MC himself. It's around 15-20 chapters. It's mainly to introduce the 2nd FL.

Concerns -mine

  1. As mentioned before, the plot s*upidity with the guard captain.
  2. At some point, MC pulls a grenade with his teeth - yeah, that's not happening.
  3. The ages of the characters is really young. MC is 14 (going on 40). The wives are 14 and 13 respectively. Nothing would have been lost if the author went +3 years.

Good start. That's it. No OP MC. He trained himself to create his weapons. Show how powerful they are. Next, everything went up in flames as they made MC, a reincarnated adult Male before death, get bloody fooled by some dumb grunts. They took away his weapons, which is the main selling point of the novel, and sent MC on his way as a s*ave. Sure he gets them back later, but REALLY much later. During the period before that, MC has to kiss 4ss to survive. And, for the... more>> love of god, the premise of guns is basically attacking from a distance with a tool that packs quite a punch. A gun, a tool of killing, is made into something useless. Why? Because the MC is a bloody Japanese who wont bloody kill anything. Anything human of course. You'll understand once you read the s*ave arc. Really idiotic in my opinion. <<less
