Low quality, badly written drama + sadistic males + maso women.

Spoiler

Somehow forced myself to finish it, but I expected the two as*hole brothers, especially the male lead, to apologise for their abuse, but they never did. The main couple never saw a problem with the physical and psychological abuse the male lead inflicted on the female lead. He never realised it, much less apologised for it.

Both ML and MC loved each other so much, yet due to the lack of communication and the consecutive misunderstanding led them to 13 years of torture and heartbreak. Gosh... I can't find any words to describe how frustrated I was during these past 2 days!

Anyway, I still recommend it to new readers though haha... at least, the author recompense us with such a sweet ending! wooooooooooooo.

Give it a shot guys!!

The MC and ML are two different species incapable of verbal communication. It might seem quite obvious to the readers how they feel about each other, but the OTP remains oblivious and are barricaded from each other by pride, trust issues, lack of self-confidence and so on. The misunderstandings and the angst are awfully frustrating. It’s another story of childhood friends turned lovers. Nothing outstanding, but as someone else has mentioned, it is cathartic. There isn’t much of a plot so far and it’s mostly depressing.

My favourite parts would be... more>> the OTP interactions during their movie shoot, the only time they can be unrestrained with their feelings and true to themselves.

The translation is good, but I hope there will be character development for the pitiful OTP. I’m looking forward to their interactions once they have some semblance of peace in their relationship.

If those misunderstandings didn’t seem so inane, the story could have fared better. It’s decent enough for those seeking angst. <<less

Bringing The Nation's Husband Home has my heart in its grip. Wringing it dry.

The two reasons that most readers dislike about this BTNHH I enumerated in 'Why I'm Going To Read Bringing The Nation's Husband Home' is really apparent.

The misunderstandings are really a lot. But it's not without reason. All the misunderstandings stem from not expressing their feelings. Just like the first paragraph of the book.

For me, it's not that annoying. It's painful, emotional and heart-wrenching. And they both had reasons. And I'm too emotionally stirred and gripped to even think about discontinuing this book. It's not like those books that easily solve problems and misunderstandings or those to good to be true. It's painful, raw and real and that's what made this book perfect for me. If you're tired of that too-good-to-be-true books, I believe Bringing The Nation's Husband Home is the best book for you.

The male main character isn't hateful. In fact, I love him so much! Are you wondering why, I love a guy you think is abusive and cold? Because he's not truly like that. You're judging a book based on its cover.

He may look like an abusive husband on the outside but look at his actions closer. He did that because just like what Qiao Anhao's friend told to Qiao Anhao, if he's going to treat you badly why not make use of him. And a firework cannot stop itself from exploding if it's lit.

He's also cold, but only the cover. Circumstances and a tragic past made that cold exterior. Lu Jinnian loves Qiao Anhao deeply and his love is constantly leaking. And he's doing everything for Qiao Anhao. There are also a lot of times where his love and pain were shown. He might be able hide it from Qiao Anhao but we the readers can see it! Just look and see! Huhu.

These 100 Chapters of Bringing The Nation's Husband Home not only gripped my heart, it stole it. Making it happy and at the same time sad. And I believe my heart fell in love to it now. And I believe it has many more to offer and just waiting for me to uncover it. Hihi.

Dramatic.

It hurts, my heart is.

They Misunderstood one another.

Because of the Witch's fault.

They like one another but they can't understand one another.

Tears wells up in your eyes.

Because of misunderstanding their love can't be completed.

Reality is harsh but love cuts deeply into their soul.

Because of the Witch's fault.

Yeah its the witch's fault that they couldn't understand one another. She destroys everything!! She killed their baby!! She is a demon!! I really wanted to kill that witch!!

The story is so Dark and you can't help but tears up. The two should love happily but reality is harsh a Witch was born. They should had a happy family but jokes is on their side a Witch tramples everything.

All of the plot would be unraveled if MC and ML just sat down and had a conversation...

The writing is good, the translation is excelent... but the drama llamas have nothing on this couple. I wouldn't even mind some drama llamas if there were a touch of sweetness in between. This is just painful drama for dramas sake.

I got 250 chapters in before having to say "No More". I gave it a shot, and it dosen' t look like anyone is going to resolve any of their issues any time... more>> soon. <<less

First of all, THANKS TRANSLATOR!! The translations are superb^^

Also I want to let everybody that it gets better! (Especially after c200) Honestyly it's about time!! There was so much suspense & misunderstanding it drove me absolutely crazy to the point of wanting to scream. Also ML has a bit of a problem- like jerk much? Really felt like MC could do so much better though my heart hurts for the both of them because they both actually love love each other- really I'm going to stick around for when they... more>> finally get together. Fingers crossed ML 'S attitude toward MC will get better cos even though annoying I really want to see them happy together- this story just grabs at your heart! No kidding, I couldn't stop reading until I finished these tranlations -withing 2 days! XD <<less

I don’t want to offend anyone but I just want to say the plot of this novel is absolute tr*sh. I don’t usually give out bad reviews but I’ve been reading webnovels for almost 2 years now and this is the most frustating and childish plot I’ve encountered so far. Oh, and the A Billion Stars too. It’s just nah. Not surprised since they have the same authors.

I’m not a hater of angst. In fact, I quite love heavy plots with unexpected twists but Ye Fei Ye’s novels are completely... more>> abusive. If I’m going to commit in a relationship like the author’s chatacters and have the same story as them, I might have killed myself or just stay single forever. The relationship between the two leads are toxic.

The ML is a complete jerk. Not only that, he has violent tendencies and abuses the FL physically, mentally, and emotionally and he completely tells himself HE is the VICTIM. What a twisted mentality. Maybe the author thought it was cool to make the ML cold just like the MLs of other novels. Well, I say, it wasn’t done well. Again, the ML is a complete jerk who only knows how to jump into conclusions.

Don’t even get me started with the FL. She’s a martyr, I say. She accepts everything what the ML does to her and thinks it is LOVE. Nah. Love is not abusive for pete’s sake.

I’m never reading Ye Fei Ye’s novels again. I heard the novels have the same abusive contents. Not good for my brain. I wanted to stop reading but I don’t like leaving stories unfinished so I bear with it but I think I lose too much brain cells. The story is not touching it is tear-inducing, not in a good way because instead of crying because you feel touched, you’ll because of the frustration.

I suspect this novel won’t even last 50 chapters if the two leads just communicated with each other because the only conflict in the plot is MISUNDERSTANDING.

2 stars for the translators’ hard work. It’s translated beautifully but written rottenly. Sorry for the author’s fans but your author is probably a mashocist. Lol. The author’s works are overrated. <<less

Plot: Qiao Anhao was an orphaned heiress. Lu Jinnian was a lowborn illegitimate son of a wealthy family. They fell in love with each other in middle school, and made many idiotic decisions for love of each other, but had no idea of the other person's feelings. For example, ... more>>

in school, she deliberately worked hard to get into his higher class, he deliberately failed to get into her lower class, and they ended up switching places and being in separate classes. She deliberately got into the prestigious university he wanted to go to, and he deliberately got into the lower university she wanted to go to, and they ended up in different cities. He went into entertainment as an actor to make money to be worthy of her, she followed him into the entertainment industry later on as an actress, and still they don't know about each other's feelings.)

At the start of the novel, she is a junior actress, and he is a powerful lead actor/rich CEO.

The author really comes up with many convoluted plot twists to torture the leads into staying ignorant of each other's feelings, such as having
Spoiler

Qiao Anhao falling into a coma just when Lu Jinnian tries to confess, overhearing misleading conversations, having evil villains send fake texts/destroy letters/lie to the leads to keep them apart, Qiao Anhao being engaged just when Lu Jinnian wants to confess to her, there's even a fake marriage in there, etc.

[collapse]

Characters: Both leads like to suffer for love. He chain-smokes, drinks, suffers tremendously, all hidden, for love of her. She cries, works hard, suffers tremendously, all hidden for love of him This continues for 570 chapters for her, and quite a bit more for him. Of course, since they've been in love with each other for 13 years and have no clue of the other's feelings, they have no relationship skills, have never been in a relationship with anyone else, and don't know how to communicate properly at all.

Relationship: In the first half of the novel, Lu Jinnian is horrible to her in person, and protecting from a distance. When she gets the courage to talk to him, he's mean and rude to her. When he tries to talk to her, she freezes and tries to avoid him. In person, he shuts her down harshly, grabs her by the neck in anger, r*pes her several times (it's not called r*pe until later on in the novel), and even when it causes her excruciating pain he doesn't stop, because he's hurting so much emotionally he takes it out on her. This is actually domestic violence, and strangling someone is a good indicator of future lethality, so I have no idea why any of this abuse is in a romance novel. For some reason, she never slaps him, calls the police on him, or hits him back. Halfway through the novel, when she realizes his feelings for her, she develops a backbone and starts fighting for their relationship as he's off on a depressive binge. After they're together and the misunderstandings are resolved, then they have a sweet, strong relationship, but it sure takes a lot of noble idiocy and toxic relationship tropes to get there.

Conflict: Almost entirely made up of their lack of relationship skills and evil women interfering with the communications, resulting in the leads not realizing the other person loves them.

Writing style: There is a lot of boring slice of life pedantic filler and very little humour. She got in the car, he closed the door and went to driver side, they drove here, they bought groceries, he said good night, etc. I skipped whole pages to get to the resolution of the story.

Side characters: The epilogue includes the conclusions of several side plots, and those relationships are almost as screwed up as the main couple's.

Drama: There are

unplanned pregnancies, fetal death, planned abortion, and infertility amongst the different plot lines

. Seemed like these gynaecological matters were main plot devices.

Hmm.... What could I say? It is a story full with misunderstandings and dense character that take a conclusion by his/herself. The author also makes so many background story retell as a past later on. I only yet watch 4 episode of the anime and my reaction is OMG, so that's what happens to them and their relation to each other.

Just wanted to confirm for new readers to please wait till a later point to pick this up.

The suspense and heartache that's generated over the chapters I've read so far is good for getting readers, but not really an "enjoyable" experience imo. Would wait till the initial problems phase is over.

Don't worry, the chapters are pretty short so it'll take a fraction of the effort to catch back up compared to other series.

Witholding a rating because I have no idea how I feel about the novel. @_@;

I remember reading this novel years ago and I went thru so many emotions. I started avoiding any drama or movies with misunderstanding after that. The word misunderstanding itself was a trigger.

I wouldn't even recommend this novel to the person I hate, is what I thought at the end.

I really don't know how I got through 900 + chapters.. Maybe because it was my first webnovel I just pushed through not wanting to drop anything and I was already halfway in.

I should say this couple just boils my blood so... more>> much. Starting was shit, like for a few hundred chs. But after reading so many chapters if I said I just hate them then it's a lie. They were really sucha sweet couple after the misunderstanding got over.

Spoiler

I still remember a few scenes. Like how he would always play paper, scissors, rock (this order) when playing the game with her. She thought he was just bad at the game. But it had a meaning. Paper 5, scissors 2, stone 0..520, it's said that 520 sounds like I love you in Chinese.

And the gifts he gave her, all of them had a brand. Shmily - See How Much I Love You

Now it seems a bit cringe

Maybe it was just my highschooler who had nothing better to do. I would never be able to read something like this again. Once was enough for a life time. <<less

I feel like that novel is supposed to be a realistic take on the stereotypical stoic guy x timid girl CP that is so prevalent in shoujo manga. From the set up of the CP, it seems like the author was trying to criticize the craze over this type of pairing and demonstrate just how problematic it is in real life by giving them a background that molded their personality. If you think about, ppl like the MC and ML are repressed by nature.

I disagree with the other reviewers who... more>> are calling the characters s*upid for failing to correct the misunderstandings. The issue of dragged out misunderstandings is not with the fault of the characters' intelligence. The MC has demonstrated a number of times (especially with Lin Shiyi) that she can be extremely quick to figure out the truth when she really puts her focus on it. The real issue is the self destructive mentality of the characters. Instead of questioning it, the characters took it at face value even if they did take notices of the holes in the argument. They let their own self-depreciating thoughts dominate their rationale and convince themselves that it's true.

I came to understand this as I observe the stark contrast between how Cheng Yang rationalize over the misunderstandings versus the rest of the cast. He doesn't have any mental burdens like the others and so he's much more expressive. Cheng Yang kind of sets the tone for how handle relationship problems in a healthy manner. When discord arises in his own relationship, he brings it out on the table instead of hiding away. When the other side isn't willing to talk, he walks away. The author really fleshes all the major characters and really weighs in how their own upbringing, mentality, and motivations contributes to their decision making.
Spoiler

MC (Qiao Anhao) - orphaned at a young age and was raised by her aunt's family. She was used to being pampered by her bio parents, but she could not feel comfortable with this new family despite their kindness. She felt like she was imposing on another family and taking things that were meant for their own daughter, Qiao Anxia. She grew less expressive over time and got so used to suppressing her feelings that by the time she met the ML, she naturally suppressed herself in the face of Qiao Anxia who had her own crush on the ML.

ML (Lu Jinnian) - he was shamed all his life for being an illegitimate child of the Xu family which naturally led to him developing an inferiority complex towards his half-brother, Xu Jianmu. The ML grew up extremely poor, something was always conscious about when confronting the MC who grew up her wealthy relatives. The ML was deeply indebted to Xu Jiamu who always stood up for him and voluntarily donated his bone marrow to cure ML's leukemia against his parent's wishes. In his eyes, Xu Jiamu was the better groom for the MC and so when MC&Jiamu's engagement was announced, ML suppressed himself and gave way to Jiamu.

Qiao Anxia - MC's cousin. Her personality is outgoing in contrast to MC's timid nature. She had a minor crush on ML that grew into an unhealthy obsession after getting a humiliating rejection (she always got her way in the past could not accept the rejection). She caught the MC practicing her her confession speech with Jiamu. Qiao Anxia thought the confession was real, she recorded it and sent it to Han Ruchu who then arranged a marriage between the two.

Xu Jiamu - Lu Jinnian's younger half brother. He's good natured and has a similarly outgoing personality as Qiao Anxia. Contrary to the ML's perception of his good character, Xu Jiamu reveals at the end of the novel that his positive traits was inspired by the ML who honorable and hard-working. Xu Jiamu exhibits Han Ruchu's cynical attitude in his darker moments.
The MC and ML have an inferiority complex

They often carry self-depreciating thoughts like they're not worthy enough or that there are better ppl out there. Overcoming this mental barrier isn't easy because it's started in their early childhood, but it is the most important key to breaking down the misunderstandings that piled up.

The MC and ML's siblings are included in the romantic entanglement, making it difficult to seek help from supporting characters

You can't have romance without love rivals right? Well, it gets awkward when the MC and ML's 'perceived' love rival are their own siblings. Their siblings are also their BFFs and would've been the only ppl that they would've felt comfortable to open up to, but because of the precieved love triangle, the MC&ML kept their feelings hidden from their siblings.

The misunderstandings isn't just between the MC and ML. The supporting characters own misunderstandings add fuel to the flames

Just as the main CP isn't communicating with each other, they aren't communicating with the supporting characters either. The supporting characters ends up with a skewed perception of the situation and makes awful decisions that hurts everyone. To make it worse, their actions furthers skews the MC and ML's perception of each other.

Keeping secrets from their allies opened the opportunity for villainous characters to manipulate the narrative that lasted for years

The worst possible outcome with secret keeping is when the enemy is the one to discover the secret before the allies. The arch villain ends up being the first person to know about the MC/ML's feelings and is the ONLY person to know this fact.

Because this secret was kept in the hands of the villain, the accidental misunderstandings evolves into carefully calculated schemes that would skew the MC and ML's perception of each other to the point that it's gets nasty. The MC and ML's relationship becomes severely dysfunctional
[collapse]

The distorted perception the MC and ML has is the primary reason why their relationship evolved into abco-dependency abusive relationship.

The ML genuinely found MC's actions to be despicable. In his perspective, the MC was aware of his feelings her, yet she chose to sleep with him anyway for personal gain. This makes him angry and is the reason why he gets violent with her. His rationale is that "you hurt me so I'll hurt you back" and that "this is just business, not love."

The MC might be the at the receiving end of the violence, but she isn't entirely innocent either as she was the one who made the decision to initiate their toxic relationship. In her perspective, the ML has already rejected her and hates being around her, but she still wants to be close to him anyway and the only way to do that is to rope him into a transactional relationship. Because she is the one offering herself to him, she treats the abuse as part of their transaction.

Neither confess their real feelings because they have long been convinced that it's unrequited.
Spoiler

- the MC imposes 3 rules. (This made the ML assume that the MC was repulsed by him. The MC real reason was that the marriage was only temporary and still wanted to marry the ML, but worried that the divorce and remarriage would cause a huge scandal)

- the ML's birthday gift to the MC was thrown in the tr*sh (Han Ruchu was the one who tr*shed it and claimed that the MC loved Xu Jiamu)

[collapse]

The ending and CPs

Spoiler

Qiao Anhao x Lu Jinnian - they have a child nicknamed Little Rice Cake. Jinnian becomes a total henpecked husband. Anhao becomes an accomplished actress.

Song Xiangsi x Xu Jiamu- Xiangsi secretly gave birth to Little Red Bean. The two reunite and repair their relationship 4 years later. However the matter of the kid being registered under a different couple (Song Yao x Jiang Licheng) was never resolved. It's hard to like this CP bc they never show any real chemistry. Both their personalities deteriorated in contrast to the main CP.

Qiao Anxia x Cheng Yang - adopted a boy bc Anxia became sterile from getting her uterus stabbed by Han Ruchu (she took the blow for her pregnant sister). Her crush on Lu Jinnian developed into a long obsession and she finally lets go after realizing she loves CY

Han Ruchu - commuted su*cide in prison despite Jiamu's attempts to repair their damaged relationship if she let go of her hatred for the MC/ML. Xu Jiamu was the only person who was truly sad over her death.

Xu Wanli - unknown. He disappeared after Han Ruchu was imprisoned. Last time he was mentioned, Jiamu was attempting to inform him about Ruchu's su*cide, but couldn't contact him. We then learn he was overseas. Later on, Jiamu mentioned selling the Xu estate (which may imply that Xu Wanli permanently moved overseas). Although he never participated in Ruchu's evil schemes, he's just as unlikable. He's a coward who couldn't own up to his responsibility for ruining the lives of Han Ruchu and Lu Jinnian's mom. We never learn his side of the story regarding the adultery even though he was the one who started it all.

Lin Shiyi - Unknown. She's not any better or worse off than when she first appeared. Anhao beat her at everything. No matter how much she rises or falls, she always has a way to get back to the same place. In this sense, her character is rather stagnant which implies that her life will stay the same (sleeping around to keep her status).

What I have learned from this story ???

  • Must RAPE the person you like so that they can perceive your affection..
  • Domestic violence is welcomed..
  • Never speak your mind lest you clear up the misunderstanding.
Seriously, I'm sick of abuses being promoted as love.. But sadly most of the web novels are hell bent on it..

I'm pretty surprised to see one of my favorite novel has a low rating and so many bad reviews. So I'll put in some good words for this novel. You can judge it yourself whether this is you cup of tea or not.

First thing first I already read 2 other similar novels from entertainment industry. Hidden Marriage and A Star Reborn. And truthfully I love this more than Hidden Marriage who gets a high rating.

Why?

  1. This novel doesn't have THAT many chapters so it will not make you that DESPERATE
  2. The tragic love between the two was so heartbreaking for me and it was really my cup of tea
  3. There'e no love rival for the FL so there's no b*tch and s*ut who is so s*upid and a fool in love. They do have s*upid female characters but not interested in the ML that badly.
  4. This story is much more LOGICAL than the two other novel that I've read. Although not at all logical because of so many misunderstanding between the two of them. So basically this story is about clearing up misunderstanding that last for more than 8 years?
So yeah I prefer this one better than the other two novels. You do get desperate because the misunderstanding is not clearing up, but you'll get the best ending. The roller coaster is one of... more>> my favorite. It mostly focused on the couple. Compared with the two novel I've read which have SO MANY conflicts revolving around the MC that makes me think is this a Cinderella with never ending tragedy?

I keep re-reading this story, well just a few moments that I like though.

Okay back to story.

You won't be expecting a very strong female, although she's not that weak. She love the ML passionately and keep trying to chase after him. After they got together he took revenge for the ML when she knows the truth. And I really like that part. The side pair is really sweet too. Truthfully I love the side pair more than the main pair. Lol...

If you're the same type as me who love tragic story without s*upid s*ut than this is your novel. Prepare your tissue... <<less

Showbiz, childhood love- both my favourite genres...

Beginning chapters can be triggering and frustrating but if you persist, you'll be rewarded. This novel will leave you smiling with tears in your eyes.

Anyways... My heart hurts for ML ?

... more>> Title should be "Torturing the Nation's Husband" ? instead of "Bringing the nation's husband home". His love for MC was too deep for words. Everything, I mean "Everything" he did was for MC.??

Taking breaks by reading Light fluffy novels for heart cleansing, this novel is just too ???????

clarification on Marriage between FL and Half brother of ml
Spoiler

There was a fake wedding ceremony (ML posed as his brother as the groom) between the leads after ML'S brother became comatose from a car accident to save ML's father's company from bankruptcy, and ML only agreed to it only because this was his chance to get close to MC after 5 years of separation.

Sigh, it's too melodramatic. I still can take it up to chapter 500, but from then on the story become unappealing for me. I feel fed up for the misunderstanding, makes me too annoyed to read.

But then I continue try to read it again, after they clear up their misunderstanding I feel glad, especially when the FL finally know about ML feelings. I'm glad the author make this novel to be a happy ending so it's not leaving me a bad taste in my mouth.

For the character: The man here... more>> all are scumbag (ML, ML bro, ML dad except the ML assistant and Cheng Yang). The girls here are a s*upid doormat (FL & Supporting Female the actress). Well, the one I don't like the most is the FL cousin. Such a impulsive and rightousness character that actually harming everybody around.

And the villainess (FL ex-mother-in-law, FL rival in showbiz) sure do a great job as a villain, they did things like in a real life. Congrats. <<less

Of course, read to make your own decisions about this novel, but be warned.

The translation quality is great and it's already completed on webnovel. However, you have to pay stones/points to unlock chapters that aren't free. This may bother some (including me, but I just wanted to finish the novel).

What other reviewers said was true, ML and MC are braindead about communication and love to assume without evidence. Most conflicts in the story are caused by misunderstandings, unintentional or by design.

Truthfully speaking, each character deserves a good b*tch slap to the face. Every single one of them.

But it's not all bad. As someone who hates love triangles or harems (reverse or not), it was refreshing to find a pair who are devoted to each other completely. It's admirable to see how steadfast their feelings for each other are (not their actions nor their judgement, tho. They're both m0r*ns) through the years and through conflicts.

Any rivals in love are bound for failure:

  • MC and her fake husband married to pretend that the "husband" was still alive after an accident that made him comatose. They really don't like love other, more like siblings. We even find out the "husband" was secretly with seeing someone else before the accident. ML is only self-sacrifing and an assuming idiot.
  • ML will never love mc's sister and that woman is in love with someone else, she just doesn't realize it yet.

I only continued through the frustration because I was rest assured that neither would be led astray. They loved each other and no one else. It should have been the biggest strength of the novel, but its execution was terrible.

It was terrible because they only love. There was no patience, understanding, nor trust. Their love was empty and had no foundations. They did not communicate and just because of that they wasted 13 years of each other's life.

Neither of them had confidence to confess their feelings or even think that their feelings might be mutual.

Apart from the main villainess (mother in law), there wasn't an incredibly frustrating villain because the mother-in-law was already a complete monster. It didn't help that mc's gullibilty and lack of hindsight was the reason she didn't realize that woman's scheme. Girl, if you notice something wrong with your body you go to the doctor and after you realize you miscarried you bet your a$s you ask those d*mn doctors the how and the why. Just because a nurse revealed that ML signed the papers for the abortion, you ate it up and decided "so that's how it is." You ask a doctor for the reason and you ask your d*mn man the f*ck he's thinking. Why wait to confront each other? Ofc, real MVP is the nurse who was bribed by the mother in law. Thanks for showing that nurses can't be trusted. She should get her license revoked and a big, fat slap.

The sister was just extremely malicious. She lied, saying MC was in love with the ml's half-brother so that the two would get engaged only because she herself didn't want to marry. She didn't even clear the misunderstanding after learning the truth. She's whack. But I could see how a person could be like this in real life and that's worse.

This story is insanely disturbing and strangely idealistic this way. Somehow after everything, the MC and ML still get their HEA. Heck, even the sister had her redemption and happy ending.

After knowing MC and ML were getting married, I stopped caring though. Then again, by that time I was already skipping whole chapters. Side cps are all just as frustrating as the main cp. I couldn't care less about their future. They deserve another slap to the face.

[collapse]

In short, this novel gets 2 stars and 3 rounds of slapping. <<less
