Growing up parentless, Shi Yan, who was left with a large inheritance money, bore a general disinterest in life.

The only times he felt alive was when adrenaline coursed thorough his veins. He quickly found that extreme sports, bungyjumping, cave diving & skydiving, gave him the biggest kicks. The bigger the adrenaline kick, the closer he was to death, the more alive he felt.

Waking up in a pile of dead bodies in an unknown land, after a diving adventure had ended disastrously, he quickly realizes the body he now possessed was not his own.

Follow Shi Yan as he explores this new world where danger lurks around every corner, and death is only a breath away; a world in which Shi Yan could not feel any more alive.

The MC is one of the best MCs that I have read in a light novel. I almost past up on this novel because of some of the reviews. Fortunately, I didn't let it sway my decision from reading it.

Actually I like the main story and plot in this novel. But, MC relationships with women often make me disturbed. I don't really have a problem with the harem, but the nature of the women here makes me very disgusted and disturbed. For the early chapters I could tolerate it a little, but when I entered around chapter 500, I could'nt stand the attitude of 4 masters of ice emperor. They are too disgusting, I have tried to ignore it like before, but I can't stand it and stop in... more>> chapter 529. It's too disgusting and annoying. I feel that the female characters in this novel are very cheap. Even though there were some who were r*ped by the MC, but they still wanted to offer themselves to the MC. There are also those who are shameless and surrender themselves to the MC. I really don't like it. <<less

I read it to the end. Using another website. They're out there.

I binged this series for a few weeks since it was ending and capped it off today.

It was an interesting and fun ride.

I liked it for these reasons:

  1. MC was hatable and likable. You'll know what I mean once you start.
  2. His supporting cast members from the beginning were still around hundreds of chapters later. That was nice.
  3. His powers was OP at times and at other not OP. So there was a nice balance of power growth.
  4. The world was well built. the universe the writer created was well fleshed out and so were the powers and cultivation techniques.
MY ONE star loss was due to:

  • THE ENDING. Seriously. That last chapter was A TOTAL SUCK. There was NO Plot closure of different threads. It was almost literally 'the end. done. bye love you long time, kay thanx!' kind of ending. Soooo... if you hate that kind of stuff, you'll take out 1 star too. No epilogue, no....5 years later this x and that y happened. NOTHING!!
Overall it was great up until the end... (honestly I figured the writer was burned out and just wanted it to end...?)

Excellent characters, great story. However the power system is all messed up and is constantly changed in later realms. Also this fella is not righteous so to those complaining about his r*pey antics, he is practically evil so yeah.

Honestly I enjoyed this novel very much at the start. It was very entertaining to say the least. However this novel has an extreme habit and a very frustrating one where the MC is in the middle of a gigantic war and he is a leading figure but then he somehow ends... more>> up so far away and leaves. He then comes back when everything is solved. This happened atleast 3 times which is pathetic tbh. He and his people begin a massive war. He is the leading hope and figure. He ends up running away from a powerful for or getting lost and then Ends up getting lost and meeting random new people starting a new arc. Only the first arcs had a satisfying outcome where the MC stayed to the end and played his role. Later on he will leave and not even try to come back. He literally embraces his long ass life while his family and friends have to struggle in massive wars that HE caused. Anyways I hate that stuff where they abandon everything in the middle of a war. If it was during peace times allgood but when the arc is hyping up and then some random event happens which ushers in a new arc it gets pretty tilting tbh. <<less

The good:

The world is awesome and it is the world that kept me interested. There is a good reason for his transmigration and the universe is colorful and vast (though not very scientific, but it's a fantasy novel.)

The cultivation levels, although they become a bit convoluted later on is quite well put together as well, even though the author definately changed some stuff along the way (martial spirits basicly beome non-existent later on for example.)

... more>> The bad:

My biggest gripes with the story is in consistency and women.

As for consistency,

Although the author is really annnoying at keeping a clear timeline and from time to time is grosly inconsistent, also switching between sometimes very precise time indications to very vague ones, overall the process of cultivation, the reason for his 'inheritance' and why he was brought from our world are really good.

Also apparantly people in this universe can only keep time if they can see the moon sun and stars, like every planet has the exact same rotation/starsystem, which they do not of course. It doesn't make any sense. Several times time passes where the MC is unsure how long its been because of this very fact, it's silly.

Like every chinese webnovel, the same can be said about size indications and comparisons. We're often led to believe something is super huge only for it to become completely insignificant later on. The usual stuff.

As for my gripe with this universe's women. Although the 'main' girl is definately a character, pretty much all other girls are complete mirrors of each other and only fall into two categories.. Arrogant at first but good and become extremely infatuated MC or complete and utter b*tches that make a huge loss due to their actions, either being killed off or becoming lamenting whiners (who are kept around for far too long)

There is an extreme shortage of actually interesting female characters (I can only think of two in fact that I found interesting, Xia Xinyan and Ouyang Luoshuang.), while there are plenty of interesting male characters.

A minor gripe is the fact that the MC and characters are often described as being fearful/afraid instead of amazed/baffled and there's often unneccesary inflation of sense of danger and doom. Although the MC is rightiously cautious often, he is still someone initially described as into extreme sports because he is fearless. So every time the auther describes him as being afraid (instead of for example being amazed or cautious which would be fine), it ruins the immersion, and trust me this happens a lot.

As the situation of the world becomes more and more apparant and more and more is learned about his inheritance, the history of the world also becomes less convoluted and more clear.

Overall it has been a worthwhile timesink for me as I have been able to ignore most of the annoying things and take from the story what I find interesting.

Still, it is far from a masterpiece.

Overall I'd give it between 3 and 4 stars. <<less

This looked interesting, but it is apparent at this early stage that the MC is just going to to annoy me. I mean, hey I’m teleported to a new world in a weak body just lost 30 lbs and I’m starving to death. Thoughts? R*pe of course!

Silly.

A theme which seems to continue so I will find something better.

Overall, its a good addicting read. I would say that nitpicking on some of its shortcomings will only make it seem worse but overall everything has a reason even though it may turn out to be shameless or completely ridiculous later.

Translation:

  • The translation is overall good but the editors seem to be not doing anything.
  • Sometimes the names are wrong, sometimes names are literally translated and most chapter names are machine/literally translated.
  • There are many minor contraction mistakes and other stuff which sometimes break immersion.
  • The current translator also changes some major recurring terms quite far in the translation.
  • There are about 50 or so consecutive chapters with bad line wrapping and broken paragraphs.
MC:

  • MC is a cunning, evil and ruthless character which doesn't blink an eye while killing. That's due to a reason though.
  • He does feel a connection with people who sincerely and honestly deal with him. And rewards those who are good to him or benefit him greatly.
  • He also seems selfish sometimes but the author makes it so that eventually it would seem as a good decision.
  • He values family and sect but he still values himself more at the end.
  • He is also not someone who invites a fight and is even submissive when caught by more powerful forces. Waiting till an opportunity presents itself.
Story:

  • The story is well written out but some parts do feel forced. The author sometimes does something which is really unexpected to steer the plot towards a new direction but eventually in 50 or so chapters that seems a natural turn of events. I don't dislike this fact because the plot sometimes really reaches a perceived end with no bigger enemies/goals in sight.
  • In course of the story line, goals change, areas change, and at least once the cultivation tree expands.
  • There are not many young masters here though. The fights occur naturally due to concrete factors and are not forced due to the MC's arrogance.
  • There are many slapping and surprised moments due to the typical OP MC plot device. But there are also many times that the MC has to be patient due to higher realm warriors which is really off the beaten path for Xianxia.
  • MC also gets tortured and falls into predicaments spanning many chapters.
  • The cultivation detail is really extensive and most of the times spans more than half a chapters when a breakthrough is nearby. I find this very boring.
  • The fights are mildly entertaining. Though they are short and may only span 1-2 chapters which is a good length. I do find longer ones very boring.
Characters:

  • There are many entities with the MC, which fight and live with him. Their number changes from time to time. But they don't vanish in sands of time forever. Unfortunately they are not humans or any other similar races.
  • MC even remembers and eventually takes his family wherever he goes. So there is a sect type thing going on as well.
  • As the MC's cultivation has a certain relation to carnal activities, there are many women who encounter and be with the MC. The detail of such encounters is somewhat detailed. The women sometimes, thus, have short enjoyable subplots aside from the main love interest. They are transient though and the MC does not really want to have a harem or a lasting love affair.
  • The main love interest is really lacking. It shows up hundreds of chapters apart and thus is far from fulfilling. I certainly want the MC to ditch the girl, however, hopeless that expectation is.
  • Each arc also has many memorable characters which show up in other arcs and may even have minor parts to play. So essentially they are not forgotten, just they become minor recurring characters.
  • Edit at C919: A major forced event here with blatant disregard towards the sanctity of the plot and major characters. All the build up and cultivation amounted to nothing but a slight promotion, not even worth mentioning. The grand loss of some of the most important side characters and complete disregard towards their personalities was simply unforgivable.

Disappointing novel. The simplest way to describe this is that the novel is very disorganized and the plot lines appear and disappear all over the place. He got this super overpowered pet, then in about 50 chapters, its gone and we never see it again. He had a mission to find a sacred artifact to save the patriarch of his family, he found it, didn't use it, no mention of it for hundreds of chapters. The method for the author creating plot is to just have super strong characters randomly... more>> appear, literally. MC is doing ok on his current plot story whatever, boom, super god power shows up, ok time to start new plot line.

Romance is pretty garbage. The author sucks at writing romance and merely writes pe*verted scenes where the MC f**ks all the women in a brothel, or he r*pes a bunch of demon race females after killing the demon males. For the potential harem members, well they suck, they either hate the MC or love the MC for no reason other than he is strong and pe*verted.

The MC is also inconsistent, he is described as ruthless, bloodthirsty, and pe*verted. But seems like he can control his personality at will. Some female character gets naked and throws herself at the MC, the MC rejects her. Some people offend the MC, but he is benevolent and does not kill them and also helps them, somehow he can be a saint when he chooses. <<less

At start novel was good despite of MC's slaughter and r*pe.

But after leaving the merchant union (around chapter 100) this novel became a sh*t with dumb decision of MC, forced filler plots, boring and elaborated description of some things (e.g. Flames, body refinement), s*upid & repetitive delaying tactics in MC's cultivation. Hated to ever read it as it became frustrating enough within chapter 100 and 200.

Spoiler

MC got a tendency of not explaining anything and deliberately creating troubles and misleadings and ultimately to get offended like a spoiled little brat.

[collapse]

Spoiler

HYPOCRISY OF GENDER DISCRIMINATION: Like most other novels, here MC killed enemies left and right without much hatred in case they are males but when the enemies are females he hadn't kill a single. This is I think because these authors look down upon girls from the bottom of their heart. They treat them as materialistic wealth. So it's not surprising that the girls in those novels can't have the privilege to be treated equally even while dying. I mean it's the cultivation worlds the authors themselves create in which power and position of women are not inferior. But the idea that the women are interior is too much deeply rooted in the concious as well as subconscious minds of these authors. Most readers are the same. So this has become common phenomenon.

To be clear, killing the female enemy, is absolutely nothing to do with r*pe and s*xual violence. Raping the enemy is because of crooked and peverted nature of MC while killing is for survival. One thing you should realise. Why MCs kill enemies in those cultivation worlds? It is not because they like killing, here killing is necessary for their own survival. But raping is not at all necessary unless MC is using some sort of evil cultivation art based on r*pe.

Spoiler

1. Cp 125.A DUMB DECISION AND ABRUPT CHANGE OF PERSONALITY. As a MC full of lust he previously f*cked in brothel without any conscience. Although I didn't like it much, I didn't hate it either as it's how MC is. But I hate the fact that he suddenly changed his attitude, turned into a gentleman and refused her when he should f*ck the girl of yin Yang sect to get out of trouble. If he just f*ck her hard then there would be much less troubles. If author want to change MC's personality or want a character development, he has to do it step by step with proper and believable explanations. Any abrupt change in personality just make the character unreliable. Or maybe author forced it so that MC would get into trouble and some more filler chapters can be added.

2. MC don't have a cultivation law to increase his level other than slaughter.

3. There are repitative and intentional delaying tactics in mc's cultivation. Whenever he got some energy to breakthrough he foolishly keep sharing energy with some females. Also he killed many warriors two sublevels above him just to break through one sublevel in yin valley. After taking so called invaluable immortal pill he just progressed one sublevel. After killing so many warriors and even some warriors an entire level above of him in burying site of corpse sect, he didn't level up and there was no explanation given. After fighting 3 years MC couldn't even seize the sky fire as it was absorbed by blood vein ring. In fact the author said how hard it is to merge with ice flame or how it required many treasures to refine it, just to add countless filler chapters without increasing mc' cultivation. When MC is going to have a breakthrough into second sky of Earth realm, all his energy was absorbed by star martial spirit.

Also when he killed 3 birdmen, he burnt their bodies as well as all their energy which indicated auther's clear intension of not increasing MC's cultivation in a short time.

Of course it's author's own choice of delaying cultivation and there's nothing wrong. But if author really want to delay MC's cultivation then he should write better reasons, plots or excuses which don't feel forced and s*upid.

4. When the tip of iceberg is opening MC is there standing there for nothing. Is he expecting those families to share treasure with him. If he won't stand there foolishly like a stray dog watching and would leave the island then a lot of trouble never would happen.

5. The girl sealed in the god stone for countless years is accidentally freed by MC who happen to be a enemy. The whole matter is f*cking s*upid.

6. It requires 100 chapters just to increase cultivation by one sublevel.

7. It took countless damn filler chapters to get two types of sky flame, but sadly MC couldn't control any of them at will and didn't have any fire attack for actual fight.

8. In black rock island he s*upidly didn't reveal his identity as Yang family direct descendant just so that this can cause him more troubles. It's as if he is seeking for troubles.

9. Xia Xinyan got her sole injured and that's not MC's fault. But everybody seem to think it's MC's fault. This ret*rded logic annoys me endlessly. If auther want this girl's cultivation to rise by the help of MC's treasure, the author should come up with some practical plot rather than this s*upid plot and ret*rded logic.

10. Author kept bombarding sudden forced plots or incidents back to back and after that came up with dumb half-assed logics to justify those. Actually author didn't intend to give MC any time to stay quite and learn some martial skills or uses of martial spirits or cultivation laws. (Even when he finally reached his Yang family after countless filler chapters, he didn't get time to learn anything there as by appearance of another sudden plot, he couldn't help but stay away from family.) Thus he couldn't control his own power or martial spirit or black law and drawn to some ridiculously perilous situation by this.

11. Generally every novel of this kind have thick plot armour and I am used to it or generally don't get bothered by it. But here plot armour got ridiculously thick when the ring start protecting him and helping him too much frequently and consciously. MC used to get in trouble by his s*upidly and then at the extreme moment the ring would act as the real badass and get MC out of trouble. So I started feeling the ring is the actual protagonist of this novel.

There are many more cons
just in between cp 100 and 240, I just can't remember any more.

These type of novels sorta rub me the wrong way. The MC violates/rapes a girl and for 1 ch or so she hates him and its completely understandable... but then she for some reason wants to get up on his di*k yet again and mercifully forgives him for taking away her v**ginity. It might be just because im a one of those people where the word polygamy makes me react how a vampire would in the sunlight but when it comes to novels I do have some tolerance. This though, aint one of those novels. So far my experience has been: power up, fuk girl/s get affection from said girl/s; power up/go to higher level place, fuk girl/s get affection from said girl/s. Also piss off some higher up and finally get enough powerups so that the MC can beat higher up and repeat

Its just my opinion but I powered through it by just trying to focus on the cultivation aspect of the novel.

In my opinion the MC, is very vindictive to the core, so much so that the woman comes on her nuptial night in the worst way shown.

And because not revenge is the exile to keep you alive and fulfill your goals.

I`ve read many novels and this one has the worst MC ive ever read. It`s ok to be an anti hero or even a evil hero but the author made this guy look like a good person but really spoiled and petty inside, pathetic MC. He is spoiled and very very PETTY. He abandon the two girls who save his life twice and shared life and death with. Him constantly using prostit**es should have been a warning to readers, I mean which novels has an MC that use prostit**es? He... more>> use them just to get off and dont even interact with them, they are just tools to him. This MC is basically that arrogant young master you see in other novels that get smack on the face by a hero. The only reason he is an MC is because he has a cheat. <<less

An entertaining novel in the beginning but MC gets a bit too ruthless in the future, but then changes back to a neutral person. Also translation quality goes goes up and down depending on the chapter, i.e. Bad English, names changing in the same chapter, and words in Vietnamese?!

Overall, it's a decent novel for entertainment and to kill time.

Average in every way, in a good way if you want a time filler. Pretty well written and the story isn't anything to write home about.

It doesn't drag on and on in the same locations but at the same time there aren't any consistent side-characters, they just disappear.

I really disliked the first few chapters but then it grew on me.

Reviewed at c117, rated 3.

For you who haven't read this one, be aware that "rape" and "s*xual cultivation technique" tag was there because they described the MC's actions, not only because some of his enemies did it. The novel was aptly titled "God of Slaughter" as the MC practiced evil cultivation methods and could do any bad deeds with no justification, no apology, no meaning. Simply slaughtering his enemies are not enough for him, simply robbing corpses are also not enough for him. Bad-ass MC indeed, but in the recent... more>> chapter, he took "bad-ass" to another level entirely. These kinds of actions may suit some readers, but may also nauseate some others. In another novel, the MC would be the enemy that was slaughtered by another righteous MC. Admittedly, the narrative so far was good and the world construct was interesting. However, I'd say, not even all of xianxia/xuanhuan fans could stomach this one. <<less

This story is very cool with an MC that I can't relate too, he isn't a complete tool who is wishy washy unlike some other MC in stories I have read lately. It is long paced story (I think he spent like 40 chapters just in a forest alone) but it has many cool aspects that keep it interesting and exciting. This guy is going to be Over Powered of note by the end of the series and I am looking forward too it.

The story is very intresting and the MC is different than the usual wuxia one who completely ignores any female around him and just cutivate by himself. The translation was bad but they started to retranslate the chapters and now it's much better and there is no problem in reading it, that's why the translation of new chapters stopped also. They want to translate them properly. If u liked GDK u'll like this one also.
