This story is alright. It starts off very light and cute which was honestly my favorite part then it went down the emotional roller coaster route and went off to portray of a realistic family situation and the weight of what it means to come out as gay and date someone. Normally a story like this would be a 5/5 from me but there are very obvious problems with the story.

Characters - God Awful. Especially the ML. He was stuck over a “wife” he met in a video game and... more>> goes on to become basically obsessed with him. He comes off as desperate and scary, even the MC becomes scared of him multiple times in the novel. He’s even threatened to r*pe the MC using those exact words torwards the end of the novel. The MC grew up in a controlling house hold with parents who use psychological manipulation tactics to keep him under their control. He’s meek and riddle with self doubt issues and makes u feel like ur looking at an animal who consistently runs itself into a wall. For the most part you feel pity but torwards the end you start to just get annoyed. There is an incredibly large power gap between them and the novel becomes increasingly uncomfortable as you see the ML exercise that power. The parents were honestly very realistic to my experience of Asian parent psychological manipulation and I’m grateful for that.

In short this story would have been great if they made it about two averagely nice human beings, not a weak gazelle who left it’s slipper at sleepover and a rich gaming sociopath with attachment issues who somehow mistakened the sleepover for a ball. <<less

At chapter 71 the sites change and I really didn't like that site, so many pop-ups and my phone overheated so fast it was hard to read so it took longer to finish it. But the translation itself was great.

A lot of chapters so for those wondering, like I was, here are some key chapter

Gender reveal- ... more>>
Spoiler

ML finds out MC info around ch 20 but gender is officially revealed around ch 60 (but after that they avoid each other for a while)

[collapse]

Dating-
Spoiler

They confess at ch 116 (101) (identity revealed shortly before that which pissed me off cuz of so much lying)

[collapse]

Anything else I want to mention-
Spoiler

parents agree near the end and someone mentioned that the kid stuff was cringe, it was a little but what made me sad more was that they had the kid before they established their relationship properly.

around ch 172 (136) MC mother got sick (depression) and he had to leave ML. I fell so horrible for ML cuz he waited for MC first in-game for 8 years and then 3 more years in real life after they got together.
The worst part is ML dad even asked MC not to break his son's heart (T~T)

[collapse]

The story itself is great and interesting but I hated the arc near the end and MC parents (not at the end tho) but I fell more miserable that it happens to people in real life. I wanted a fluffy story about gaming but it turned very serious so if you need big drama this is for you. <<less

At first, I rather reluctant to read this novel, from the description it seems illogical.

Turn out it is sooo damn good, maybe the best modern novel I ever read so far.

Very recommended

For the most part, I found the interaction between MC and ML to be endearing, and I definitely binged this all in one go, because I was just hooked! I also really enjoyed reading MC's interactions with his parents, however painful they were. Perhaps it might seem a bit dramatic and over-the-top to some audiences, but I think it really taps into an experience that many, many Asian children share, and it does an amazing job of portraying a parent's selfishness and capricity, their fear and grief, their underlying love... more>> and affection (though they often show it the wrong way), and their child's difficulty making sense of and coping with it all. Big kudos to the writer for that! I definitely cried.

However, I do have to mention that the ML is highkey creepy for
Spoiler

invading MC's privacy and abusing his power to search up his address and name!! Wtf!! Also it really rubbed me the wrong way when he hides the fact that he's snooped around and figured out MC's irl identity and then toys with him about it both in-game and irl.

[collapse]
Also, the final part was so perplexing! The pacing was way, way too rushed, and the main characters' actions and feelings were often super incomprehensible to me. I was left feeling super unsatisfied when I reached the end, which left me with an overall poor impression of the story. I really had to remind myself of how much I enjoyed the first part of it before settling on 4 stars! <<less

Just when I thought it was all fluff and cuteness, I got hit with drama and a scenario that made my heart hurt. It was uncomfortable when the tone switched but I guess the story needed that change to have a beautiful ending.",)

This novel was a pleasant surprise. It has its drawbacks but those can be overlooked.

The story starts with He Jin (MC) logging into a game after 8 years and meeting Qin Yang (ML) again. MC and ML used to play the game in school but MC stopped playing the game suddenly when he was found out by his parents.

The novel starts with these two getting together. ML is devoted to MC and everything seems to be smooth-sailing. MC takes every day of being with ML as a gift because he knows that the relationship will not last. Reality intervenes and the pair break up. This part has angst and a time skip of 3 years. We see the MC suffering under his parents expectations and to be a "normal" person as seen by society. MC and ML get together eventually and its a HE.

The separation of MC and ML brings up a lot of issues in society. To conform with social norms, many a times we compromise with what we truly want.

The ending chapters are pure fluff and healing. Dumpling is adorable and as black-bellied as his "father". Lol

Overall, a feel-good story with a dash of realism.

Real life in novel form.... uuggghh 90% of the novel made me want to gnash my teeth. Its that frustrating to see "real human" behavior and their subsequent responses.

Its very refreshing read la~~ Moat authors would rather skip all these sh*t and just be fluffy all the way but this novel did not.

It accurately described life of the Non-norm: no pain, no meng~~

This story is cute and fluffy... although the situation with MC’s mom is not that ideal but believe it or not that is mostly the typical asian mom act.. don’t even go there. Anyway both were piled up with hesitation and scared to take chances

I actually waver between 4 and 5 star, 4 because I cant stand the MC parents, yes he refute in the end.I know the author tried to acumulate the abuse until he can't take it anymore but when MC finally separate from his parents it left me feeling rather frustated with his situation rather than relieved. 5 because I have to point that it was very realistic when the taxi driver advice him, yes, the frustation is realistic!

the MC is a wonderful protagonist and growing character and the ML is very patient. The romance is the main aspect but the gaming is well explained with the help of the translator's notes and the other characters are charming. The pacing of the development of their relationship very good (as of chapter 111). If the development was summarised it would look like the ML pushing to progress while the MC eventually says yes. BUT that is a very simple explanation and does not tell the whole story.

the... more>> MC is not perfect and he does make choices that hurt the relationship between him and the ML. But he changes and begins to find himself throughout the story. The ML is supportive and helps when the MC really needed him to be. But the MC changes because he chooses to. I feel like this is also a story of finding one's self and loving it.

His childhood and current situation made him be hesitant and nervous in his relationship with the ML.

Spoiler

The MC grow up with a very overbearing mother. She does not care or listen to how he feels about her controlling his life. A lot of his decisions were based on how his mother would feel despite the fact he is an adult. His mother would verbally and (when he was younger) physically attack him when he stepped out of line. This caused him to fear her. So despite him being an adult and having the ability to he did not drink and spend money on unnecessary things for pleasure. Due to this he even after he had left his mother's control he had a hard time accepting he was attracted to a man.

[collapse]

Spoiler

His relationship with the ML offline and online causes him to very confused. He finds himself falling in love with both of them. He becomes unsure (he doesn't know who the ML is IRL) if he loves the voice, if he is pushing his feeling for the online ML on to the offline ML, or if he just loves two people.

[collapse]

So far I really enjoy the story and don't have any big complaints and very few small complaints. In fact, I stayed up really late reading it because I really like this story. I would recommend this story and the translators did a really good job. :) <<less

It:s been awhile where I binge up to the latest chapter of a series that makes me wonder, "What can I read next that will be as fun as this one?"

Fire is crazaaaaaaaaaay~ ♥

TY translators, this has a good dose of MMORPG and vrmmo. Kinda like Half Prince, but the opposite, when it comes to gender bending in virtual reality and meeting the game players IRL. Less idiocy, more fast-paced action.

it's the first BL novel that i've read completely. really love it!!! I really recommend this one.

there is no chapter that turns me down and makes me want to stop reading.

fluff, fluff, fluff, angst, fluff, fluff, angst, fluff... many fluffy moments but literally crying in angst parts.

... more>> really love how the ML devote his love to MC.

the author used simple words but the story was delivered well.

there are only 69 translated chaptered. I used MTL to read the rest chapters (because I was so curious about the story), but I still can get the plot well. <<less

I agree with what Azortex said,

"...I could do with less angst. Definitely a roller coaster ride, the angst, the happiness, the angst, the happiness... you get the picture..."

The story is great and has a fairly good pace but the back and forth angst to happy gives you whiplash. Don't even get me started on that mother. The screaming I do makes my throat horse.

That woman is evil incarnate. I hate her with a passion and He Jin almost just as much for giving in to... more>> her and also for every choice he makes after his dad shows up in his dorm. Granted, he was abused and manipulated since a young age so he is conditioned, but the pain that causes him and QY is almost too much to bare *sigh*

It's a good, easy, fun read without any love rivals and it's a HE novel. It's just the angst parts involving He Jin's charter flaws that hurt you.

This doesn't have a yaoi tag and it should. There are some sexy times that are graphic enough for a yaoi tag. <<less

I love this story. I think the "wife" MC is starting to grow and become more independent and realize what it is that he wants out of life and not let his mother control everything just because she thinks she can. With the help of the "husband" MC he has started to know who he is and it's not who his mother is forcing him to become. I love this story but I was just wondering if/when does this story get updated? I was also wondering where I can read... more>> the machine translation of this story because it's such a good story I really don't think I can wait for this story to be translated. <<less

Very sweet read. There’s only been the tiniest bit of angst so far but a lot of the story is also just cute interactions between MC and ML as they get to know each other better. The game they play is also fun and I think I see the emergence of a side couple or two.

60 chapters more to go. The story is funny and the ML is so perfect.... more>>
Spoiler

As for the MC, he has inferiority complex and low self esteem due to her mother. As he himself said, he is a coward. He kind of quite selfish when he said to just want the relationship between them to just stay on the virtual even though he kind of given hope to the ML by communicating with ML in real life by mesaging and whole I miss u, u miss me things. Never thought how the ML might even think. I just know if there is no perseverance of the ML, their relationship will never hold on and just collapse easily.

I remember reading this a long time ago. There were so many ups and downs in this novel but ultimately everything worked out and they ended up living happily ever after.

I really do like their romance however I did feel like the ML contributed more to the relationship than the MC. Honestly though, his circumstances limited what he was capable of giving so do I understand.

The romance really was great! I remember I had butterflies in my stomach whenever the ML and MC interacted at first. I just wish the... more>> novel wasn't as dragged out as it as though. <<less

Okay I'm being generous with the rating..

first of all, translation site, Asian Hobbyist is shitty.. Very basic translation with typos and errors and some chapters are in wrong order (this is the worse aspect cuz I only found out after I read and missed the chapters) and so many ads in between paragraphs.. I gritted my teeth and read it till the end cuz I actually like the story..

regarding the story, it's actually good but I thought this is a fluff novel but it's angst-heavy in later chapters which shocked... more>> me cuz I wasn't expecting that change at all.. And about that angst, it's not usual angst where misfortune happen to both mains or other external factors but it's between 2 mains and that kind of angst is extra painful for me.. Regarding ML, I can understand people question his actions and decisions cuz he's a total obsessive aggressive impulsive bully but imo still charming in his own way.. I just can't hate him >.< (neither can MC xD)

overall a good read but shitty translation dragged the story quality down and I couldn't fully enjoy it.. <<less
