She is of average status. He is young and powerful, achieving status as a high ranking official of River City within a span of just a few years. She had a deep love, but being unable to endure the harsh reality of life, she left. He had also loved once before, but he had been suffered betrayal from his girlfriend and friends, he delayed his marriage.

Having exchanged a few coincidental glances with him, she mistakenly assumed him to be her blind date, and without asking any other questions, she directly inquired him: “Do you want to come with me to get a card (marriage book)?”

He recognized this woman, and holding her with a feeling that was neither love nor hate, pleasure replacing surprise, he nodded: “I’m free in the afternoon!” He had not corrected her.

As per marital business, she offered him an agreement, calmly stating: She will agree to roll the bed sheet once a week! He quietly raised an eyebrow, mouth half-smiling, and flamboyantly signed his name. So because of this agreement…

“Wife, it’s late, let’s get some rest,” the man stated. The woman looked in to his eyes, nodded, and turned off the bedside lamp. In the darkness, a pair of large hands probed into her clothes, caressing her skin like satin. It was a beautiful night.

On the second night: “Wife, it’s late, let’s get some rest, ” the man stated. The woman looked in to his eyes, nodded, turned off the bedside lamp and lay down to sleep. His dark, large hand reached up to her again and slid into her clothes, probing her smooth skin until it was then suddenly caught.

“What are you doing? ” the woman asked coldly.

”There is a marital agreement to fulfill! ” the man said, take it for granted, and then pressed on top of the woman. It was a spectacular night.

The next morning, the woman who was brimming with an aching waist and grief, came out from the study room with eyes wide open, angrily said: “Su Yicheng, you crafty Official!”

The agreement read: marriage, rest once a week!

Love after marriage, warm and spoiled.

I had initially overlooked this novel because the synopsis refers to the FL as a spinster. I thought maybe it was a story about a mid-30s woman ending up with a younger guy. Nothing wrong with that but it's just not my cup of tea (however, IRL, my hubby is younger than me, lol).

So first of all, the synopsis has got this all wrong. The FL is 28, the ML is 32. They both were traumatized by past relationships, leaving both to remain single ever since. FL is an architect... more>> and ML is the Special Assistant to the Mayor. It doesn't sound like a lofty title/position but he wields quite a bit of power in the city. ML also comes from a powerful military family background.

Spoiler

FL had a college sweetheart that she dated for 3 years. During their final year of college, both were busy with their own internships. She finds out that he started dating a rich girl with a prominent family. He comes from a poor background and thinks that by being with the rich girl, he would have a better chance of success. So when the rich girl goes abroad for graduate study, he follows her and marries her. He comes back 6 years later with the intent to get FL back despite still being married. He thinks that since she's been single all these years, she has been waiting for him.

ML had a childhood sweetheart. They grew up together. He went on a business trip and came back early with the intent to purpose marriage to her. That's when he caught her and his best friend having interc**rse on the floor together. This fallout leads to their breakup and ending of his friendship with his best friend. The ex-girlfriend and former best friend went abroad together. She comes back 7 years later and also thinks that since ML has been single all this time, he hasn't gotten over her despite her betrayal and therefore she still stands a chance.

Before their marriage, ML had encountered FL a few times, usually during her blind dates to other men. He once saved her when a date tried to force a kiss on her. FL approaches ML thinking that he was the blind date that her BFF set up. She impulsively proposes marriage which ML (although knowing she got the wrong person) accepts. She only finds out after they received their marriage certificate that he was the wrong person.

FL has no idea that she married such a powerful man. She thinks he's just an office worker. She's kind of oblivious. He drops her off to work one morning when she finally realizes that he's driving an expensive car. She tells him that it's too flashy. When he picks her up in the afternoon, he drives an inexpensive car. This leads her ex-boyfriend (who came looking for her) and villain co-worker to think that he's just an ordinary person. When ML finally tells FL that he's a government official, she thinks back to the expensive car and tells him that he must have taken bribes in order to afford such a nice car, lol. He finally shows her his stock portfolio and tells her about his investments to make it clear that he doesn't take bribes. I like that both ML & FL are so lowkey that when he rescues her, it shocks everyone to find out who he is.

It's actually kinda cute when she finds out that he's rich. She tells him that she guesses her BFF is right, she became a gold digger.

[collapse]

There is no marriage agreement* like what the synopsis said. Although he's attracted to her, he doesn't force her and she's still coming to term with marrying a stranger. She's hesitant at the beginning but knows that ultimately ML is her husband and they would sleep together sooner or later. He's very patient with her and respectful towards her while she mentally prepares herself. I'm glad that their relationship isn't contractual with rules and an expiration date.

*Spoke too soon, lol. There is an agreement in Ch 99. After being worn out from their daily lovemaking, FL decides to purpose a married-couple agreement, limiting their lovemaking to once a week.

What I like best about this novel so far is that they trust each other and understand that both have a past that has nothing to do with the other.

Spoiler

When FL's ex-boyfriend comes back in the picture, ML protects her but doesn't ask her any questions which she's grateful for. She eventually tells ML what happened back then and ML tells her that he knows she's already over her ex-boyfriend and it's OK if she doesn't want to reminisce the past. When ML's ex-girlfriend gets drunk and comes to their house while ML is away, the ex-girlfriend tells FL a lot of hurtful things (mainly that their house used to be hers and ML's house and how everything is the same as it used to be when she lived there - the decoration and furniture, that it was only because she had gotten drunk that the "incident" happened to lead to their breakup, and that FL is just a substitute of her). When ML returns, he finds FL sitting on the floor in the dark while the ex-girlfriend is sleeping on the sofa drunk. He sees the tears on FL's face and takes her to the bedroom. The only thing she asked him is if it's true that she's a substitute. He tells her no and she was happy again because that's all she cared about. We do find out that the ex-girlfriend lied - after their breakup, the house was renovated and re-decorated so it looks nothing like it did when she lived there, she wasn't drunk when she slept with his best friend, it was mutual.

I think FL feels safe and secured when she's with ML and ML likes her innocence and finds everything about her to be refreshing and cute (even when she's mad).

I like that our main leads are real about their feelings, especially in terms of their past relationships. It was really hurtful and just because they're married now, doesn't mean that what they felt back then no longer hurt. I like seeing both of them feeling down upon seeing their exes and realizing that they're OK now.

Really love this novel it's a story of two people who both got betray by there loved ones,

I like how MC handle when her ex boyfriend come back and shamelessly try to win her back even if his married but MC handle it well she didn't panic in front him even if she's anxious in her heart, she's a brave strong independent woman, I like her personality she's not like some navie girl in other novels

And ML is not like some other arrogant jerk forcefull... more>> ML in other novels, his really understanding towards MC he wants to be happy in his married life with MC and don't his or her past life to effect there new marriage life his not secretive about his past life and willingly told her everything, his honest about everything his very nice to her parents his rich parents are also nice towards the MC, not like some other novels rich parents against the marriage or relationship of ML and MC because MC is poor or not of there status, in this novel ML rich parents are very loving towards the MC and bless both them off there new marriage

If you hate or tried of forcefull jerks ML or arrogant rich parents then you should read this novel it's very good you will surely love it and will not get bored of it <<less

There are good parts and well said perspectives on love and family trials. My main gripe is the lack of character consistency. ML is supposed to be extremely intelligent and a black-bellied wolf hiding behind a smile. Yet, he makes the simplest mistakes.

Spoiler

his crazy ex essentially stalks them and barges into their home on multiple occasions when he isn't there, to antagonize the FL. She gets her son that she abuses to push the FL down and almost caused her a miscarriage.

The ML adamantly tells the ex they have no future and is cold to her. However, he still ends up picking up her calls at least once sporadically to reemphasize this. He should've just blocked her and reported her for stalking (even if her dad is technically his superior at work, they're government officials though!) For a deputy mayor why doesn't he have more security at his home and not use the law to his advantage?

Even after the whole kid pushed her down, he ends up relenting and helping her meet her dad (ML got evidence of his corruption and sent him there) while personally driving her there. That gets seen by the FL but there's no gap bc he is honest about it. Issue is, the ex is clearly crazy so why does he keep having any contact?

Then the ex comes to his office, purposely gets in front of his car to get him and makes him take her to the hospital and eventually drops her off at her hotel (while carrying her). It was their 6 month anniversary and the pregnant FL is at home waiting. He left his phone in the car and crazy ex doesn't let him go to get it. Makes no sense that he willingly allows his pregnant wife to worry bc of his so called image while at the hospital. So FL doesn't know anything while waiting for him after making a candlelight dinner until like almost midnight. Pics get released and even a fake s*x tape gets released right after.

DUDE. At this point of the story he's the Mayor. He could've contacted the cops, or gotten an assistant to take the ex to the hospital or even from the hospital to the hotel. (It was a picture of him carrying the ex to the hotel that got released).

THEN THEN. After the ex goes crazy from being r*ped, she leaves a note saying she's going to kill the FL. FL, ML, and ex are all at the hospital at the time. ML gets a call from the police about ex and that FL is in danger. ML tells FL to go upstairs to be with her mom in the ward when he catches sight of the ex around the corner. He leaves her at the elevator to try to catch the ex. FL not knowing the danger she is in ends up chatting with an acquaintance she bumps into in the elevator, going into the garden to chat.

Ex sees her and a whole hostage situation ensues. I get not wanting to rile a pregnant woman's emotions up. But all of that could've been avoided with "you're in danger, go upstairs immediately and I'm going to take care of it."

ALSO. How did the cops that were already at the hospital not immediately send an officer to watch over the FL who is the target. COP 101 secure the target and perpetrator once you know a threat has been made! The ex is a deranged hospital patient by then and physically cannot overpower a cop.

All of this was just SO DUMB. Every time he 'warns the ex' and says to himself it'll be the only time he'd let his wife and child be in danger. Bruh, she got you 3x. 1. Getting her son to push FL down and injured. 2. Threatening the FL and smoking in their house while FL is pregnant 3. Hostage situation. It's total bullshit. Almost erases all his good points

[collapse]

Now there's the FL, her character is a bit all over the place. She's like a cute tsundere at times, cold goddess at times, soft and gentle at times, and fiercely blunt at times. It just didn't feel consistent I got confused over who she really is as a whole.

She responds so differently depending on the person and situation though the underlining issues is about the same. She lets herself get pushed over by her coworkers who scheme against her all the time (not in a soft pitiful way but more like she's too disinterested to pursue the issues further) yet stands her ground at a banquet when someone berates her for spilling wine on their dress and threatens her boss to fire her.

She doesn't fight battles when she has the power to but does fight when she's at a disadvantage. It doesn't make sense... she's more than capable of shutting people down like she does to her ex and her friend's scum fiancé. Good with her words in those situation but the moment it's a threat to her or the ML she becomes so passive. LIKE WTF!? I know there are people better at standing up for others than themselves but the way she speaks with such logic even while fuming shows she's capable of it always. <<less

Don't be turned off by some of the low rating. This novel is worth reading. The MTL is easy to understand. The second book (Lin Li and Zhao Han) is also a part of the MTL, as well as the extra (for Ye Ziwen and Su Yi Jiao)

I think the central theme of this novel and the 2nd part is 2nd chances to fall in love with people who have been hurt in the past. I think the second part of the story, about Lin Li and Zhou Han... more>> is better but this novel is so good as well. It's just that it's too long, I think. Although it's long, it is the foundation for the love story of Lin Li and Zhou Han and Zi Wen and Yi Jiao. And there are some dog blood dramas in here, but I think it works in the story.

No misogyny. Yi Chen respects and loves his wife. You can consider them to be in the honeymoon phase so it's understandable to take your wife to work and pick her up. They really didn't have a lot of time to date. He also protected his wife well. They always talk about things and makes sure there's no misunderstandings. Although at first, when his wife told him about a job offer, he asked her to decline, it's because she almost had miscarriages. She ultimately continued to work during the latter part of her pregnancy.

The story is fast-paced. They married early in the chapter, An Ran was awkward at first but she was able to give herself to him not long after. They have a good relationship. She didn't really hid her marriage. More like she didn't announce it but when people finds out, she didn't deny it. It's understandable. She's frequently at blind dates days before she got married. And when her boss finally found who her husband is, he immediately tried to hook him up for favors and even framed her.

My cons is that there's too many chapters, the story of the mom is such a bore.

The friendship between Lin Li and An Ran is really good to read. It also showed here how Zhou Han and Lin Li met. The second book is my favorite. But that one started when the second couple is already in a contract relationship. An Ran's MIL is also a loveable, badass character.

The villain here is so annoying, btw. She's also the villain in the second book, but there's not much intrigue there, just the story of 3 people who were hurt badly and try to make their relationship work <<less

I actually dropped this novel.

It is not that I didn’t like it but this novel almost made me stop believing in love. The ML got cheated, the FL got cheated. The ML’s ex cheated on the guy who she cheated on ML with. The FL’s ex morally derailed (actually never loved). The FL’s friend was used as a substitute in a 10 year relationship. On the wedding day, the white moonlight says that if he marries her, she will jump from a building and he leaves the wedding to look... more>> for her only to find that it was a ploy. When the friend tries to beat the b*tch, the guy (bastard) pushes her which causes her to lose their baby. The ML’s sister loved ML’s friend to the point that she would do everything to get him but he didn’t appreciate her. It was only after she got over him that he realized his feelings (scum), goes to her and just beats her current boyfriend. The main focus is that they didn’t even leave the FL’s mother alone. She got cheated when she was pregnant. God, it was a tiring story full of cheating.

At some points in this story, I really wanted to kill the author. <<less

First of all I would really like to praise the translators for doing such a great job as the series is not completely translated yet so I continued reading mtl version and man I almost forgot my own English. So I really want to appreciate the translators for their hard work on this series.

The novel consists of 3 love stories of course the main story is about An Ran and Yi Cheng. All the characters are very likable. It is story about healing from your past wound and moving forward... more>> in like. I liked how author also focused on an important point that when a relationship fails it doesn't just affects two parties who are involved but it also affects the people around them mainly the parents. No caring parents can bear watching their children in pain and the author has very well written it. It's a good read very relatable (as I myself once experienced a failed relationship and it took me 3 years to get over it so author has no where tried to exaggerate lead character's past pain and present hesitation.

If you're looking for a heartwarming and healing your heart book please go for it. <<less

This is something that won't happen in real life- abrupt marriage? Damn no. But I really love plots like this. Kinda slice of life-ish but u know its fiction because something like this definitely won't happen. Its peaceful and sweet. Definitely what I like in a novel.

Only waiting for it to be completed.. The updates are slow : ((

... more>> Edit: completed reading by mtl. 4/5

After rereading it, I've seen that there's actually a lot of unnecessary drama that went on for so long that could've went without. The last chapter was soooo long I just skimmed thru it. <<less

I like this novel. The MC and ML are decent human beings, not overly vicious but also not s*upid. And the best thing is: this couple talks to each other about stuff.
Spoiler

for example about their past with their exes that started to pestering them. Or when MCs boss wanted to force her to use ML influence, or when ML ex came to try to force MC to abort their baby.

[collapse]

they talked and in this genre that does not happen often.

the biggest critic I have is that everyone seems to have the same relationship problems. They dated someone, it didn’t work out (more often than not with betrayal and going overseas) and suddenly the ex is starting to pop up to ask for another chance regardless what the other thinks about that. The exes seem all to have 0 EQ or understanding (or acceptance) for other people’s feelings. They are very self centered in their „love“. <<less

A 28 year old Gu An Ran and 32 years old Su Yi Chen who met at a wrong blinde date decide to get married despite being strangers. Both have been hurt by love in the past. So they might as well just marry first logically. It's quite a cute story, Overall, the first couple is quite cute, and is a slow romantice but realistic build up.

Some people may find MC is weak and sily but I'd rather say she is more realistic. She treat others with kindness and indifference... more>> if they don't hit her bottom line, it's not like she'll fight with everyone for those petite offences and certainly not with her average background. And it doesn't change when she married with ML because at the start their relationship isn't that close. As for the ML and his family they really are too sweet for my teeth.

The antagonists here mostly are the third wheel of their love:

Spoiler

The ML ex girlfriend who betrayed him with his best friend but later in the story we'll find that she cheated with many other man as well. The FL ex boyriend who left her to get married with a woman who's rich with great background so that he could atteigne fortune and success but after 6 years he came back from aboard while still maried and chase after le MC

[collapse]

The MC's best friend and her sad story made me cry my eyes out.

Actuelly the main story end at 165 chapters but there's 87 side chapters like another mini novel of FMTL about the MC bestfriend and that's the part I liked the most because there's more suffering so the situation is a little more complicated but at same time more beautiful (you can read the side story withouth reading the main novel)

you should read this novel it's very good and worth your time.

Some people may find MC is weak. I'd rather say she has real personality. Came from ordinary family with loving parents, of course she won't be like a smart vengeful girl. She'll treat others kind and indifference if they don't hit her bottom line. And it doesn't change when she married with ML.

While ML... I thought he will be like CEO Above Me Below's ML. In fact, the ML and his family really are too much for my teeth.

The antagonists here mostly are the third wheel of their love. Crazy... more>> people, especially ML's ex-girlfriend, I don't know if I should give them a praise or insult for their foolishness and craziness.

Spoiler

ML's ex-girlfriend even tried to commit su*cide. And behold, she still didn't give up even though ML ALREADY rejected her many times! She never considered the betrayal she did with ML's best friend really hurt him.

Spoiler

I was laughing when ML said "let's fall in love". Excuse me... If you didn't say that, I really thought that both of you already in love from the very beginning.

Hoo, there are a lot of troubles... Several spoilers ahead...

Spoiler

I never thought I could see this many rivals everywhere. I knew the battlefield of love was bloody, but hooh, there's rivals everywhere you turn. Well, those "rivals" are mostly people who "regret". Of course, each rival just had to have yet other "extras" clinging unto them.

An Ran's ex-boyfriend still "loves" her after 6 years, after horrendously betraying her and cheating on her with another woman. On the other side, Yi Cheng's ex girlfriend who cheated on him with his best friend deeply regrets what she considers "one mistake ONLY"and wants to claim him from An Ran, as if the mistake was just an oversight and never existed. I despise people who use their su*cide attempts and illnessesto illicit another person's concern/pity/love. Putting aside those serious issues and the cunningness, they're hurting the people they love. Of course, she's not the only one-her sister's there, too. Of course, An Ran's best friend also has trouble - she's less fortunate, however, in that her fiance-now-turned-ex is someone who can't make a proper decision and did not cherish her properly despite her loving him for 10 years. She was used as a substitute, he ruined the wedding, and caused her to have a miscarriage.

[collapse]

I'm happy to see that Su Yi Cheng is a loving husband and, although awkward, An Ran is very earnest and caring as well.

The families of these two are also very good people.

As much as I know that these two people love each other, as their marriage was pretty much done fast, I hope they fall more and more in love (although in my opinion they couldn't be more in love than they already are despite everything... he said, "Let's fall in love"? As if they aren't yet... Seriously, they care about each other so much and trust in each other confidently, you'd think they were married for 1 year already... or more...) Ah, how does one remove those stubborn "stains"?! CAn't they see that these two people are happy with each other?!? Is this going to go on for 50 years or so? Are they going to keep wasting their lives, lying in wait, even if those two are married, even if those two soon have children... don't tell me even if those two become grandparents they're still going to stick around?!

Su Yi Cheng is a refreshing man, and is basically a fresh break from those tyrants and selfish, arrogant, and easily displeased male leads in Novels. Maybe because they aren't in ancient china? A husband, a wife. Both work, and the woman doesn't have to rely on a man's existence. In ancient china novels... rivals are everywhere and you can't say anything about it because they CAN marry your husband, either as another wife or a concubine, in addition, it goes by "acquiring favors from the man", life is easily disposable, and you "should be virtuous and not jealous and small minded when your man obtains another woman." I still read those because I root for the main character and/or I want to see how they'll manage their lives. <<less

Also shes a pushover, always get bullied also by her friend. She doesn't have strong personality, but she happened to brave enough purpose to a stranger married her, when they just met?

When she met with her ex shes also always in daze reminiscing the past, so she doesn't... more>> aware again what happened. Smh

Ehhh this novel is weird and amateur. If you want a fairytale romance then this is it. There’s no complicated plot just your plain boring Chinese dramas: rich and powerful man married navies and normal woman. I’m dropping it because all the characters seems simple. ML and FL just met and they’re like let’s get married literally the same day. Then all the parents found out and are like that’s moving too fast but ok cool. ML making physical moves kissing and touching without her consent, FL feels uncomfortable but... more>> she’s like well he is my husband so I guess he can. I gave it a 3 star, bc it’s not a complete failure, the story is entertaining it’s just not what I want. Maybe if I’m bored and want to read something simple then I’ll come back. <<less

The story is an easy read, just like a daytime soap is an easy watch.... which is pretty much what it's like. There's the ex-bf, the ex-gf, the ex-gf's ex (In fact, probably 3/4 of the characters have an ex that appears (This may be an exaggeration, but it sure feels like it)), the workplace drama, baby shenanigans, potential birth secret, pregnancy, miscarriage, scandals, cheating cheaters who cheat... (people I want to slap....)

The MC and most everyone in the story is flawed.... except for the ML and... more>> his family. He, of course, is practically modern romance OP: comes from a prestigious family, where his father and grandfather are pretty much military gods, he's a genius young aide to the mayor, his sister owns all the best Chinese restaurants that the MC and everyone like to eat at.... His family instantly loves her, no questions. He's also almost perfect as a husband. Homegirl lucked out with her random proposal.

I don't love it. I don't hate it. It's easy to pick up when not much is going on. It gets a middle-of-the-road 3 from me. <<less

I love this novel, it is stopping me to do all my daily basis works and forcing me to read and find what happened next in the story.

I'll recommend this to all but don't know what's your taste in novels.

But I loveeee this novel???‍

The story is sweet and cute. I like how they respect each other and trust in each other. But I have to take one star out because the FML character is annoying at times. She feels idiotic and childish at times that I sometimes get this urge to go in the story and seriously give a "Gibbs slap" to her head. I found myself thinking back and realizing that my high school self was more matured and more calm than her when I experienced some of her situation. She's also... more>> a slow learner or if she learned at all from her past, and this just infuriates me. ML seems to be the one mostly doing the effort. At times I find that she's more of a burden and I start sighing, that I'd sometimes stop reading, then find another novel to read so I can forget my frustrations. Fortunately, ML is well aware of her character and find it attractive. If you got nothing better to read this is a good read. <<less

A relaxed, modern day novel with both characters having a bad past experience with love. It might seem boring but I quite enjoyed it. It was refreshing. If you're refraining yourself from reading this because you think it's gonna be angsty

Spoiler

LOL you don't have to worry. If anything, the FL's BFF's situation is much more tragic. There aren't great misunderstandings and the minor issues are solved with the proper discussions.

A PG-15 drama that started with flash marriage between two high-profile strangers who started to fall in love with each other.

The author emphasizes the main theme, which is carrying a baggage (past relationships) in the current relationship. So far the main leads is trying to show that they have stepped forward, unfortunately many don't seem to give them the pleasure so the drama is quite real bordering tedious and bothersome. However, the author allows a natural dynamics there so it is the fuel for the drama.

My only peeve so far... more>> is the author's inconsistencies with family dynamics and time frame:
Spoiler

from the time they met and married there were so many events that happened afterwards that it should be more than 2 months yet the author insist on it being just about 2 months. Marriage preparation within a month? Seriously?! March, April and suddenly it's June... cold temperature and then summer. The author can't convince me that it's just 2 months ago thst the couple got married suddenly. Plus those multiple weekend events amounts to more than just 8-9. So, I prefer if the author allows at least 4 months that all these transpired. ?

Many significant characters in the family who were primarily involved with the characters suddenly disappearing for more than 10 chapters or mentioned just in passing, also inserted randomly just so we readers won't forget their existence. (Sigh) Their conversations are somewhat all the same that they start feeling like cardboard-cut figures.
