The Experimental Log of the Crazy Lich

Description

Links are NOT allowed. Format your description nicely so people can easily read them. Please use proper spacing and paragraphs.

This is the story of a crazy lich who possesses an internal game system and brings catastrophe to the entire world.

“Let’s look at the daily quests today… it’s the damned choose one-of-two-options-type again. Destroy a town with a population of 30,000 people or above; reward: 10,000 evil points. Steal lollipops from 3 children; reward: 1 evil point. If neither of the quests is completed, then 2 points will be deducted.”

“Tsk! You think I’m s*upid? If I really destroyed a town, a crusade of Epic-ranked Holy Knights would definitely come hunting me down. Even if I earned the points, there wouldn’t be any life left in me to spend them. I better just go be a kindly lollipop bandit.”

I’ve already had enough of being a notorious lich. Who says that a lich can’t be a good person? I’m definitely going to beat this damned system and be an upright and dignified good man.

(The Experimental Log of the Crazy Lich) Masterpiece by *Angry Squirrel* Finished at 17:00 and accompanied by the song 'To Build An Army' by 'Marcus Werner'

This novel is a masterpiece in terms of its philosophy, politics, point of view, and portrayal of characters. It requires a lot of patience and attention to detail, and it may make you uncomfortable at times. But if you can understand and appreciate the meaning behind it, it is well worth it.

As a true fan, I can confidently say that... more>> this novel stands out among all other masterpieces and is without any plot holes. It is not for the faint of heart, and I think it requires at least four years of reading experience to fully understand. Nevertheless, thank you to the author for creating such an extraordinary work <<less

Don't force yourself to read this ultra-predictable story that is a cyclic repeat of the following events:

find enemy -> try to be funny -> try to be angry -> beat the enemy with heaven-defying powers

If you're looking for a story where

The world revolves around the MC and he wants to change the world order.

MC has a friendly cheat system to get ultra-powerful.

MC tries to defeat the enemy with his "clever" plans but ends up using brute force in the end.

Then this story is the one for you.

I've been following this novel ever since the first few chapters, here's my (short) thought

WARNING: If you are new to the webnovel scene, don't read this. This is more of an acquired-taste-novel, where you are faced with info dump and long passages and flashbacks along with painfully dense protagonist and mind-bending schemes. You should try your hand on some of the Korean novels (they usually are shorter) or more popular works on Qidian (huge publisher, breaching to international market) first.

It's a pretty meta-novel, referencing many tropes and characters in its... more>> early stage. The references stop being prominent after a while but it's still there. It's a very laid-back kind of writing (mainly from the main character's dialogue and odd situations) but the plot still progresses (albeit at a slow pace). The world building is achieved through info-dumping but it's like learning about a historical movement or revolution. The depth of world building is incredible, it's like peeling an ogre onion. The story drew you in with its quirky personality and meta jokes then start building its world from the character. The world-building can be extreme sometimes, and many characters are introduced and promptly abandoned. But despite having such a wide array of character, they all have a special characteristic which makes for some memorable scenes. The random filler scenes and superfluous descriptions that you see in so many cultivation novels are used to either prepare a punchline or to progress the plot (along with a punchline, of course). If you aren't familiar with the webnovel-light novel scene, you might not find as much enjoyment out of this but I hope you find it funny anyway. <<less

A good novel for all of you who love a detailed world building, anime joke, the schemer MC, and his funny magic pet who always try to get rid of the him. The plot is good, but for many of you who impatient about the plot im not recomend you to read this coz sometimes the plot going really slow coz almost half of the chapter are just a world building, and explain many of the crazy though that the MC have. I like the writing style the background story were good but a lot of logic behind main character action and thinking is flawed...

Spoiler

especialy the logic that Industrial revolution in magic based society were going to change everything and "common people" were going to be better againist "talented" people etc...

... more>> first thing first even in this world if you want to pound money to go againist the so called "talent" no matter what you done it will be fantasticaly expensive..

e.g if you want bronze rank to fight gold rank and win maybe you need million but if you want bronze rank to fight legend rank it will be in hundered million..

not to mention high grade equipment will always easy to get destroyed if you want to use more resistance material you will need high grade metal and you said it yourself that adamantine were heavy do you think bronze rank can carry adamantine layered equipment?

now you need to create rune in every equipment you make and goblin, dwarf and gnome were not enchanters it need high ranking mage to inscript rune in equipment that means it need talent

trying to make the world equal is just a dream that will never be achived even by god regardless of the system because human were flawed existance <<less

This is an entertaining novel to a certain level.

It is a fun novel. Translation is not perfect but "ok", missing words sometimes, weird grammar sometimes. This novel is entertaining with a good story, the writing style is ok (a bit tedious after awhile), too much repetetive with "Alright".

Now this is a novel with parody.

... more>> A few annoying things, the translators notes are everywhere and appear all the time in the chapters... Just stop... Use footnote/endnote.

Later in the chapters, there are many parts that often starts with "Alright, bla bla bla" Alright this, alright that. And it continues. This writing technique is overused. "Un" this, "Un" that. I dont know if it is slang or if it is a direct translation or if its the translators slang included. I dont even know if writer or the translator is influenced by japanese novels. And last, just like many great novels that have many chapters, they all suffers from repetetive contents. The writer keeps repeating stuffs over and over again.

Be warned. A bit too much gender-bender and homos*xual jokes and theme.

This would have been a 5 star novel if it werent for the writing technique/style, overused gender bender jokes and humour and theme and not coming up with new jokes. And too much "Un" and "Alright, " (as I stated, writing style)

Spoiler

P.S a certain king, uncle to a certain emperor, (you will meet these characters as you read the story) were transformed by our main character. Basically this certain king is undead lich, transformed into a female by our Main Character. Soul of a man, body of a woman. This transgender thing is sent as spy to emperor, and novel (writer) is hinting they had s*x. I am not dropping novel, but it made me "wow, I think I need to walk away a bit" and while other thinks this kind of stuffs are funny, I find it... Disgusting.

It's your MC reincarnated and have Super Cheats. To be honest, I don't like pe*vert joke, and I think it'll be better if it have more serious tone. But overall, this my fav story. In this story, the world is like World of Warcraft (or DnD, but I'm not familiar with it) and MC has RPG System - cheats. He gains EXP points that can be used for gaining level or learning a skill.

MC has good point on politics, and we can see many political war in this story.... more>> It reminds me of playing Warcraft. <<less

One of the best series ever. If you want to know what kind of novel this is, the closest example would probably be "sora no otoshimono". The story is both lighthearted and somber at the same time and can switch from having you laughing at the antics of the characters in one chapter to being blindsided by the feels truck the next. tl;dr: this is a fantasy-esq sora no otoshimono-esq novel that's written in chinese. It's a funniest novel that I had read.
+ Comedy : 10/10. The best point of this novel, you cant stopp laughing when you read it. Because the troll mission from "System" and MC's craziness make him look like a s*upid crazy Lich in other's POV.
+ Story 8/10: have many plot and secret behind the screen but sometimes author make some detailed description which are very boring
+ Action 8/10 : MC is very good at swordplay and he have "System" to help him get some item and OP... more>> power but he must clear some troll or nearly impossible to get. In MC's fight in chap 59 - 63 we can get a glimpse about MC's tragedy past

+2nd Life: MC was revived and change name to Roland BlackHand (BlackHand mean the mastermind of evil plane in Chinese) and go investigate the mastermind who make his country to destruction. In this life he go to Wizard Country and meet Harloys and his senpai and study magic in there. Still unknow the reason he died in this life. Soul Imprints:The Ice Treader (The Ice Walker in convert version I read).

The chapters are fairly long (and a nice translation to support it), so it took me a few days to read up to the current chapter, but I have to say that I really enjoy this novel.

Sure, it might not be the greatest literature and the mix of "serious" chapters with "comedy" ones could be done slightly better, but I never felt like one part or the other overstayed their welcome.

Admittedly, the long chapters, with usually not a whole lot happening in each might be too slow paced for some,... more>> and the characters are a bit one-dimensional at times, and the insistence to do descriptions of the world by mixing "past" and "normal history" every now and then don't translate too well into English (the 1st person/3rd person transitions that are part of Chinese and Japanese languages don't have a good equivalent, so it usually makes it look a bit weird), making some parts a bit messy.

Most of the "important" battles will probably disappoint those looking for the normal staging that happens in many novels, because be it army battles or duels, they are mostly concluded via strategy and/or overwhelming power (not a spoilers I hope).

You could see it more of "how to properly play your cards right" rather than "epic fight between power houses". Personally, I find it nice, because it's not that often that it is written in an entertaining way, but it might detract some people from the experience.

Anyway, if you want a novel that loosely bases itself on the wanxia/wuxia worlds, but goes overboard all the time and contains a lot of silly humour, this might be your thing.
If you want an epic story with superb battle scenes and a hero that has to contend against overwhelming odds all the time, you will be disappointed. <<less

Disordered, not even cared to be thought about structural text/writing. Random lotta sh*t of lore nobody asked for, since ch1, all the way to ch 19, nonstop.

See th-HAHAHA funny...

Every novel here with a comedy genre on it I 99% nightmarish, my radar hasn't failed me in... half a hundred... more>> novels that I've read since the last one which I could even read. And for what it seems, commercial-purposed for novel with anime japanese addiction to pro-beta. Unrealistic all kinds of shits, system, literal gaming descriptions in a magical world and nothing else, s*xual jokes = true comedy and smoke screen for h*mophobia. Read and you'll find even more than I did, I promise you.

Good world building doesn't mean a ton of sh*t being explained when NONE of it comes to f*cking matter, and this if only that, there is no plot, there is a plot in AS's mind but why bother writing it when he can just randomly put it into the novel once a few times (or just 1 every... who knows how many chapters?) and the rest is... what f*ck is it even?

Once more, another one that has 'too many' tags for a very 'strange' and 'incomprehensible' reason. I'm suspicious of the 71% 5*, complete utter garbage. <<less

My favourite novel so far, really good quality. Started of slow and kinda silly but then when it gets going it REALLY gets going. The characters are great too. Honestly I was genuinely surprised when the novel started to reveal more of the story. Really did not expect it to get that crazy. A tiresome read. It has a wide variety of characters, each with their own gimmicks. The info dumps just drained the soul out of me, made me disinterested and dispassionate about reading more. Certainly great for world building but at some point, it's just unnecessary information or information that could be summarized in 1 or 2 sentences. The comedy gets old early on, it's just the same cast of characters with their gimmicks. For example, a strong dragon hybrid who loves furries or the priest who is passionate for getting... more>> nude.

It is the most unusual Chinese light novel I have ever read

Аnd the main disadvantages of this novel fore lies in:

  1. The style of the author's writing. For the first time I see a manner of starting from afar every chapter. Even if the last chapter ended in the midst of the battle, the next one will begin with discussions about the novel's aspects, which will smoothly continue the story of the last chapter. Although I find it amusing, I would still prefer if during the very heat of the passion of the story, the author did not cut off the narrative
  2. I am perfectly aware of the whole system of the minimum number of characters in Chinese publishing houses, but even with an eye piercing the water, trained by dozens of Chinese stories, this reading was difficult. SO MUCH WATER
Everything else suits me in this work

You must understand that this is a comedy, but it is a very versatile comedy and completely atypical.

If describe this work briefly - Ultimate gender bender comedy

In conclusion? I would like to note that this trip was not easy but very exciting!

The novel is fluctuating from lighthearted to dark then lighthearted again. Well anyway some are very confusing but it's not bad. I also read a lot of people complaining about the jokes saying they can't stand it which I thought they're overreacting 'cause I'm completely fine on the first arc but after reading more I feel like I grow tired of it too. It's not so enjoyable for me 'cause the way it was written wasn't my cup of tea, every chapter starts on a different scenario, it doesn't continue... more>> on the part where the previous chapter was cut, I know it's just a way of writing and it has a charm on it too but just doesn't click on me (if only every chapters were longer, this way of writing would fit more), by starting on a very different topic every chapter the excitement I get from the previous chapter starts to cool off and the feeling of enjoyment never reach it's peak because of this. In other novels I get excited to read the next chapter everytime I finished one, but on this one I only feel sad from it because "i only want to know what happened next" but this novel just doesn't give what I want. I remember when I read WMW I immediately got 40 chaps easily but on this one I probably took almost 2 weeks to get by chapter 40 because I just couldn't enjoy it fully so I don't have a drive to binge it.

Well still it's a fine novel. A very good plot. But the way of writing is just not for me. Story: 4/5
Worldbuilding: 4/5

This is the Sponge Bob of NU. The narration style is "monkey mind".

So far there is shota, cross dressing, traps, gender bending, tons of yaoi, even more bestiality, but no harem or loli. None of which is graphic. The tags are a meme though. If you're sensitive to gay jokes, pass on this title. They're not particularly mean spirited, but it is certainly not for everyone.

It has its fun parts. Most chapters have some amount of comedy. When it gets serious, it can be really cool. But these are like... more>> little islands in a sea of words. Every chapter is an absolute ocean of side tracking and tangents. It manages to not feel OCD because instead it feels like the author is lazer focused on not dealing with the plot.

To be a reader of this series is to hold the leash of an enormous dog that refuses to participate in its daily walk. As you plead for the dog to just take a few more steps and perhaps take a dump, it notices a butterfly and then takes a nap.

Often times scenes are structured as follows:

Spoiler

3 paragraphs of Roland saying his teammates are a mess.

Something explodes

2 paragraphs of Roland saying his teammates are a mess.

An animal takes it up the bu*t and someone yells that gays are gross.

Roland says his teammates are a mess.

Something else explodes.

Some characters that are no where near each other run by naked. Some girls beat the naked people up.

Roland complains some more and then spends 4 paragraphs explaining how it's his fault.

Unrelated plot continues.

[collapse]

The narration style is sometimes offensive. In search of filler content, it'll dip into pretending the reader is asking questions. This is the laugh track of narration.

Sometimes it reads like the manuscript was knocked down by a clumsy passerby and then not properly sorted when it was picked up. Even mid dialogue conversations between people not even present will be inserted. When I'm reading and wondering who a character is talking to or who the speaker even is, I don't even bother double checking to see if I missed something anymore. <<less

The story is fun, the characters are pretty interesting, the dynamics are solid and the overall plot is good. The world building is cribbed from D&D to the extent that even I can recognize how blatantly the author is copying it and I've never even played D&D. However, I don't really mind that much since if every author had to be original we'd have like twelve stories, so I can generally put up with that so long as there's a fresh spin on the concept and ELCL definitely succeeds there.

However,... more>> the humor is atrocious and occasionally outright offensive. I've come to expect a certain amount of trans and h*mophobia but it's so bad here that it really breaks me out of the story. I am not even big on LGBT awareness or whatever, I just expect a certain level of human decency, but apparently being gay is far worse than being a horrific mass mu*derer, people with gender dysphoria are hilarious and being attracted to a pretty girl makes you gay because of factors outside your control that you don't know about. Not to mention characters like Beifeng. As a one off bestiality joke he was pretty funny and as a recurring background joke he was alright. But then he actually seems to be acting as part of the main cast? No. No! Please bring back Elisa and Annie or something, I don't want to hear about a dragon man trying to f*ck seals and lizards. He should have been left behind when the setting moved to the surface.

Apart from the terrible humor, I have issues with the pacing. Plus, I've been reading for several days now in my spare time but I'm only like 20% of the way through the story. I'll still give it a 4 but I really hope the story's overall quality doesn't decline like other long runners I've checked out. <<less
