I'm being fair here, this novel is good. But not overly good. There are just some chapters that you will have some "Wtf" moments because the boost just seemed to never end. Idk, there's this time he was creating his Spirit Veins? it just kept being dragged on and on and on that it made me, who originally hyped up and enjoyed the hype, had a wtf moment, I even ended up skimming over it and cl**ked next chapter... Next Chapter... Next chapter, "F***, it's still here?! Didn't I skip... more>> like ten chapters?!" That was roughly what I thought back then.

And the author kept doing that at some moments, again and again. It just got old really fast. My review would be 3.5 but I'm rounding it up to four... <<less

I have to admit I was on the fence about this novel mainly because I do still think it is an amazing legendary novel but. With that said their are so main problems with it. But first let me tell you the good things.

The good things about ISSTH:

Spoiler

First this novel sets up a vibrant world like nothing I've seen before even in something like BTTH they just stuck with their are a few continents the end. But this novel has many worlds as well as the heavens represented by the 9 mountains an lakes.

Then their are the powers and legacies that the MC gets you fell like the journey is and adventure to find the one ring but wuxia style. With him following in the Demon Sealer legacy.

Third the MC's perfection and strength progression is not fast and not slow but measured. I felt I was chasing perfection with him.

Then the characters weird crazy and unique some want to help the universe others are just trying to gain more power.

Last but not least the writing is amazing always showing the coolest and most dramatic story-line in the most fantastical way.

[collapse]

Then the thing that are problematic:

Spoiler

First while I love how fast the character gains strength and becomes powerful. It leave behind a problem FORGETFULNESS at one point the character gets at legacy from some Blood Mask guy. He get a pet the blood colored Mastiff cool right. But after he leaves the world he is on and goes to his dads clan it is never mentioned again. Just like the wooden sword title get this Immortal slaughtering swords he uses them to make a time a treasure but never uses them after he live for the Immortal realm. This happens with a lot of stuff that was supposed to be useful later on when he becomes more powerful but gets discarded when he guess what BECOMES MORE POWERFUL.

The next thing is only a problem for about 100-150 chapters. RUNNING AWAY. After his first sect that he was forced to join is basically destroyed it is known that he might have something important on him so what happens. He runs then hes caught so he kills some people. Then he runs then he kills some people then he runs. Then he insults some people then he runs. This happened so much that I nearly gave up on this novel.

The last part I took issue with is more my opinion and not fact. And get ready cause its a super spoiler:

Spoiler

The ending has all his family dead all his friends dead all his clan and sect members dead but him and his girl alive. The nine mountains and rivers dead he is all powerful and could make it all come back but he just leaves.

Question what was it all for if not to protect everyone what was all that power worth if you are just going off somewhere to get more power. I think they truly f*cked up the ending. NOT like Desolate Era he had a chance to get even more powerful but instead destroyed it because he felt it was a threat to his and his families peace.

It was very annoying because his Clan and family had just become very powerful he had kill all the traitors and got revenge but the writer had to go one too far and give him another thing to fight a curse.

In my opinion it should have ended with him mu*dering all the traitors and killing all the 9 heavens that betrayed the nine mountains and lakes. As well as the invaders from outside the universe.

Absolutely loved this novel its the favorite out of all the ones I have finished or am currently reading it may start slow but it picks up after a while and just becomes great. One of the most amazing things about this novel has to be the characters that follow the MC and the MC himself they are just incredibly unique in a way that I haven't seen in other novels. Overall its definitely something to put on the list to read I am already excited to see how er... more>> gen plans to tie in Meng Hao into A will eternal which is also turning out to be a great read. <<less

I Shall Seal The Heavens, is a good novel. At times it's wonderful and at times it's repetitive, like most novels. Personally, I found the beginning to be a bit slow, but it did pick up the pace eventually. However, there are some parts of the story where it just feels... odd...

The "power-ups" in this novel are quite decent, until a certain point ... more>>

. At that point it's... I'm not sure if confusing is the right term, but it all felt like a small mess. Battle techniques are forgotten as quickly as they are learned, except the same thing over and over again.

I'd say the novel, until that point was the best part of it, for me at least.

This is novel is good, by no means is it not. However, I just can't stop this feeling of mine, which hoped for something more..? Still a good read, but I have read better. Still a solid 4/5 ish. <<less

Recommendation: READ IT!

If this is your first time reading xianxa novel, you will be in the same boat I was. ISSTH is the first xianxa novel I picked up and read it to completion without skipping a single line. I recommend for you try to reading it; it may be hard to picture the world/settings and some terms might be hard to understand. However, the translator did really well introducing the reader to this world so don't forget to read the translator notes.

Positives:

World building in this novel is really good... more>> and smooth. I never had trouble picturing as the MC go from different settings

Cultivation was hard to understand at first if this is the first time you reading this type of novel. But you will get use to it and enjoy it later on

Characters created by this author feels authentic, each with a different personality. Although some antagonists have similar traits etc.

Actions/Fighting scene in this work is very good and well detailed. As a reader, I never had trouble imagining the fights.

Main character is hilarious, cunning, smart but sometime can do s*upid stuff that make you question him. But overall, I'd definitely put him as my favorite character in any novels/books

Negatives: Don't let this push you away from this novel

Take my negative with a grain of salt.

I really did not like how the novel ended. The author spent more than half the novel building characters, world and the plot but the ending never feel satisfy.

Comedy in this novel die out really quick. It go from curiosity, lighthearted laughter with the MC into a more dark and serious tone. Despite that, there are some moments from the middle to the end of the novel that will make you smile or maybe laugh. However, I really wish that the author kept his comedic personality more toward the end. <<less

This is an excellent story and webnovel. Ergen is a great webnovelist and Deathblade an excellent translator. I would recomment this webnovel to anyone. Although this webnovel has its issues the story is excellent and leaves the reader wondering "when is the sequel". I expect that there is a possibility of a sequel eventually in the future if ergen lives long enough. The latest novel to be translated, A Will Eternal, is also super good and worth reading. Although ergen uses certain phrases/comparisons, which could be easily substituted for much... more>> better metaphors, very repetitively throughout his novels which lowers my quality rating slightly, and he could have better more novel quality composition throughout, his story weaving and quality of storyweaving is top notch and didn't leave me wanting more at any point. I enjoyed this story thoroughly and deathblade's translation was excellent. <<less

An amazing novel. What I always hated about chinese novels is that MCs are too quick to kill. They show no remorse or any conflicting feelings. Most times it is because MCs killed a lot before the start of the novel so the sentiments are already gone. However, this novel shows the growth of the MC. When he first killed somebody, he felt sick and guilty. Some novels do that, but after the first kill MC can simply kill without blinking. In this novel MC shows discomfort for bloodshed and... more>> only after suffering through painful lessons does he start to grow coldhearted which makes him much more relatable and understandable. Most chinese novels just explain how the MC got betrayed in some half assed flashback to justify his actions, but this novel shows true character development. How the MC changes through various experiences and becomes a different person. If there is one thing I dont like about this novel, it is romance. I heard this author wasnt really good with romance before I started reading, but it is really bad. All that I understand about the female lead is that she is cold and beautiful which is mentioned A LOT of times and is clearly bullshit. The female lead gave treasures that saved MC's life for no reason. She basically talked with him 2 or 3 times both of which lasted about 2 or 3 sentences and gave him a few treasures in exchange for some cheap cosmetics and then we dont see her for about 80 chapters. Then suddenly she is shown randomly in some sect and it is shown that she still kept the cosmetics without using them or selling them (which is supposed to be romantical). I dont even understand why they brought up the cosmetics, since they were cheap and ordinary. Why would she even need to sell them? She was in a better sect so they are bound to have better cosmetics. Before that chapter there was no indication whatsoever that she was in love with the MC. At best she had the image of an older sister, at worst, she was a pawn the MC used to get through the Outer sect without getting into troubles. When they meet again author sets up some romantic mood that, if you read everything up until that point, feels so forced and unnatural, it would have been better if that was their first encounter and they both fell in love at first sight. <<less

This story is quite simply my standard for giving 5 stars.

It's a typical cultivation story, but complex and consistently interesting, the writing is excellent (Er Gen got me interested and tense about our MC taking a written test... enough said) and the translation is the best I've ever seen (with cross-references to culture, past chapters and relations to other books).

The MC is not unidimensional, he can be smart or childish, badass or petty, yet never betrays his core identity... and most of the other characters get to grow as well.

The... more>> universe of this story is incredibly detailled and consistent (if mysterious at first) from chapter one to the very end, embedding our MC story seamlessly into the overall narrative.

If you only have the time for one story, this is the one! <<less

It was a good in depth story with hints of what would show up in the story line maybe 1000 chapters down the road. The only reason I rated the story 4 stars instead of 5 is because the ending dragged on a lot more then it needed to. I would suggest reading this to others.

The book started out slow but it's not slow enough that you'll get bored and decide to drop it. I think the author found a balance in starting out the story and explaining why the MC is the way he is right now. It has good enough world building and I especially loved the 3rd and 4th book the most. It's action filled and I like that he's not naive and he immediately adapts to experiences and events. It's a humorous read as well so you won't end up getting... more>> bored. It's written and translated better than most wuxia novels imo which is a huge plus for me. Idk if it's just me but I can't stomach any novel that has a lot of grammar inconsistencies, my purpose in reading is for recreation and to widen my vocab. Although you can't expect it to be as good as say, an english novel, it's still good enough. I'm probably used to it by now. Lol.

However, the story kinda ended up going downwards for me around the 8th book. Things just start being repetitive especially with the fight scenes. It's not just this though, in general, if a xianxia or wuxia novel is 1k+ chapters long, there's got to have enough mystery and plot for the viewers to want to finish a novel. Frankly, there wasn't enough mystery for me anymore. It got predictable and I ended up losing my interest and dropped the novel altogther. As I think about it now, there wasn't enough character interaction for my liking so i've never grown attached to any particular character...

Spoiler

except maybe for the mastiff, lord 3rd and 5th. Even xu qing with how scarcely she was written despite being the MC's love interest wasn't enough to get me attached to her. I frankly am more attached to chu yuyan and I frankly like her way better.

[collapse]

Also, don't be fooled by the romance genre, it's basically just c*ck tease, for a lack of a better term. If you really wanna know why, see spoilers above for general details.

Maybe i'll find a spark someday and decide to read it again.... But probably not. I still gave it a 4 bec it was good for the most part, and the fact that I haven't finished it makes it unfair for me to give it a 3. This satisfied my binge reading cravings, it's just that it ironically got way too long for me and the predictability and lack of good plot and mystery (IMO) made me dropped it. Still, it's in the top 5 novel i've read. <<less

I love the action of this LN actually when I started this LN I dropped this one. But resumed when I saw it already finished. Although most people Highly suggest this novel, telling its really great and all I agree with them to a certain extent I love the action, the war makes you imagine it happening because of the details the author put in it, but d*mn the romance killed it and a few stuff ill mention in the spoiler.
Spoiler

i pity chu yuyan I kinda like her more than the main female lead and I hate meng hao for making her fall in love with him then just toss her aside saying "sorry I only like my senior apprentice sister" he should just took her as well, it doesn't hurt to have 2 wives plus xu qing doesn't even mind SHE even d*mn suggested it. Besides that I kinda hate it also when in the end all those he cares about died because of some curse (although they got resurrected in the end) reminds me of the curse that inflicted xu qing because of that meng hao never get laid for I dunno how many years 100s? 1000s?. Kinda sad. If I put myself in his shoes, besides that because of the curse he lay low for a long long time, the aftermath? Instead of becoming a legend he became unknown to the future descendants of his realm they didn't even know that he beaten the main antagonist of the series and what he did in the past which made it really sad very sad making his achievements kinda pointless because all those who knows this all died because of some s*upid curse and they got resurrected but no memories of their past selves. Although it benefited the future people it still sucks to be wiped out in the annals of history even though he is still alive and kicking, so whats the point of becoming immortal anyway if it turned out like this? Plus him turning into like all heaven which made me irked more. But still this novel have good points like the actions how he saved the people from purple sea, the wars I like the war in the novel very interesting. And other actions I wont mention cause already too long

[collapse]
all in all it's still an interesting read so I still recommend this one if you want a very nice action type LN

Mini review,

It's been a while since I finished it (the first such novel I finish), and even though I've forgotten a good part of it, it has grown on me like good old wine.

The feeling that has left me is that the story was never forced, the 'open world' thing was very well build and I don't even have the words to descibe how good I found the ending to be.

DB's translation probably took a big part on it as well.

My New Favourite Novel wahaha. Made me laugh and cry from the beginning till the end. Im really impressed to the one who created this novel which is noneother than "Er Gen". The author's imagination is unique and wide. The character can adopt in each situation and the lessons provided can be applied in reality. This cons and jokes can also be applied in reality wahaha. I learned a lot. Im really thankful to Er Gen for this novel.

I'm not very far into it and found it okay until chapter 7. The fact that he can use a mirror to make "animal butts explode", and then gets so tickled he kills 100 animals in a day... for fun... screams psycho more than MC. Does he collect the animals since his original intention was to hunt for food? Nope. Collect their pelts since he's broke? Nope. Instead he collects the core of a demon (which was attracted to all the blood and gore from the animals he killed) to... more>> eat, of course, after he uses a mirror to explode the demon's butt. -.-

Uh, yeah, nope. Can't follow an MC or author who slaughters a 100 animals for fun and then passes up food when they are hungry. Nope, not even with all the plot armor in the world, not even if that demon core tastes like chicken. Wanton killing of bandits or bullies, I'll read it with relish. Wanton killing of guards, have at it, I'll keep reading. But wanton killing of animals for no purpose other than to test your new toy? One of those pills you're popping better be an anti-psychotic. <<less

This novel is simply a mine filled with gold but the author destroyed it at the end.

The MC is great. The story WAS great. The translation is also great

The beginning is a bit boring (I mean increasing his cultivation with pills) but it'll become better with readnig

The fights and the bloody battles description was great as ergen specialized in it and the translation describe it greatly

The problem was ... more>>

things like the temple of doom legacy, the agarwood legacy, his 2 other burrowed time sword, the other terracotta soldier, the sword lotus formation are forgotten. Without any explanation, its just gone.

And author couldn't put the side characters in the plot at the end and just killed most of them in the mountain and sea war in book 8 and instead made meng hao a lunatic loner by the two continents

After that came the last boss and we found out that the two continents were puppets for him and meng hao was being developed to be the main dish from the beginning

  1. Cultivation. Lots of it. With lengthy descriptions of breakthroughs and particular levels. I love those.
  2. Sense of humour. It's surely present in the novel. Parrot/Jelly combo is surely refreshing.
  3. Finally something that has some connections through the plot. That's really refreshing that some stuff was planned by the author beforehand.
  4. Did I mention cultivation?
  5. Some people find it really cliche when MC gets beaten almost to the death and comes back later for revenge. I personally don't mind some of such situations during the novel (as long as they don't happen all the times). This novel seems to have those situations pretty balanced. Some wins are easy, sometimes MC luckily survives/escapes. Overall it's fine.
  6. Some people may dislike MC being strong due to cheat items. I kinda already accepted that as a part of the genre.

This novel rates at least 4 stars up until book 4 chapter 387, then it loses the original plot and the story gets so twisted up that it died. After that, its still, IMO better than most xianxia, but not worth more than 3 stars. The true spirit of the story is fulfilled at the chapter I have mentioned. I give this 4 stars up till that point. After that, whether you want to read it is up to you---it's a whole different story from there.

The story starts very differently as Meng Hao (the main character) is picked up by a girl commonly known as a Immortal while he tries to save three people to bring him to a sect called Reliance Sect. And his journey towards immortality...

The point where I started liking it even more:

After Meng Hao meets up with his parents and leaves for the Fang Clan

The story pace is amazing, most characters feel real... But the only flaw I ever found is in the character development... Especially Romance, exactly what turned me off from reading it and -0.5 it... But man! The story is absolutely amazing it has a lot of cameos from different characters from Er Gen's other novels and the parrot and the meat jelly are an absolute blast !

All in all it deserves a 5⭐ <<less

It's been such a long journey but at a great adventure. Now that this novel has reached its end, I can't help but feel sad. In the past I picked up the novel but did not read it cuz it was boring to me at the time but I persevered again and this time I was obsessed with the novel, I thought to myself " what an idiot I was to have ignored this amazing novel! Meng hao has gone thru so much since becoming a cultivator, which wasn't his... more>> goal originally... But as fate would have it, he became one and eventually became an illustrious figure and so powerful he became the will of the starry heavens. So much death, so much sadness, and yet so much joy. This novel has made me feel so much emotions that I never thought possible, it made me cry, feel joy, sadness WY the loss of the MC...i really want to thank deathblade becuz he translated the novel, of which the quality of the translation is superb and we'll written and also for his dedication. And also I want to thank Er Gen for his amazing genius mind, of which without him, we wouldn't have read such an amazing novel, he truly is my idol and I really respect the love and heartfelt dedication to his characters and the plot.
