Seventeen-year-old Hajime Nagumo is your average, everyday otaku. However, his simple life of pulling all-nighters and sleeping in school is suddenly turned upside down when he, along with the rest of his class, is summoned to a fantasy world!

They’re treated like heroes and tasked with the duty of saving the human race from utter extinction.

But what should have been any otaku’s wet dream quickly turns into Hajime’s nightmare? While the rest of his class are blessed with godlike powers, Hajime’s job, Synergist, only has a single transmutation skill. Ridiculed and bullied by his classmates for being weak, he soon finds himself in despair.

Will he be able to survive in this dangerous world of monsters and demons with only a glorified blacksmith’s level of strength?

The story is great at start. Has a nice plot. But sone how those plot became hole.. It has nice start and the opness of the character is explanable but that opness and lack of plots make it boring in the long run.. It has its strengths but not good for a perfect score..

Keh, I can get why theres lots of hate after the V1

It seems like Shirakome was still thinking of the whole genre as he wrote, stuff like beating the heck out of Shia (bunny girl) right as they got out of the dungeon. Or how they hate it suddenly turning into a Harem collection.

The Harem is alright, OP af Hajime beating the sh*t out of people he doesnt like. THATS THE ENTIRE SERIES IN A NUTSHELL.

After losing an arm and surviving the dungeon, the MC just wanted to explore the... more>> new world along with his loli-vampire-waifu. It was the problems that came to him. Leading him to the unfair-op-curbstomping MC that he is.

If you wanted something serious, THIS IS NOT FOR YOU. (Go read Nidome no Yuusha or something)

If you want to laugh at character cliches and unreasonable op shit. Then drop by and invest more on reading further volumes.

About character development, there really was none for MC except when he fell on the dungeon. (Which was vol 1) and he turned from a meek lil sh*t to an edgelord.

But his kindness is still there beside being an edgelord he just became more apparent in giving his opinion (to the point he shoots people to ppint it out) <<less

The first volume is the best~
Myuu-chan is cute~
The comedy is interesting~
The action is good~
Myuu-chan is cute~

The story became 'harem-comedy' in the mid chapter (people expect arifureta become like tate yuusha afterall)
But actually this is a story about how a human who lost his humanity regains the humanity again..

If you are similar like me who can compromise by using "I just want to know the story"-principle.. then I recommend this to you.

The author is tricky person, there will be fast development that you won't expect from OP-protagonist.

The author gives 'lump of sugar 'reward to you (to the point you want to start cursing the MC because 'Riajuu should explode' stance that most of you will have) , if you read all of main story... =w=

Spoiler

Myuu will grow as a badass-cute girl

I'll be completely honest I'm only up too the end of the first chapter and would love to keep reading however as soon as I reached volume 2 I couldn't find any sources for the chapters between around 20 to 97 without buying it from Amazon kindle or other simular platforms it wasn't crazy expensive so I will probably pay and keep reading. However I felt I should at least right this review for all those out there who aren't willing to send some money to read the book. Other... more>> than this from what I've read its very well translated and has a good storyline and the only reason it doesn't get five stars is the previously mentioned reason. <<less

One of my favorite web novels to date. It is probably the one of the best "reincarnated into another world" read in the past few years. It is full of content, especially in the first 180 chapters. The extra-chapters are more light hearted and easy to digest, which makes for a pleasant pastime. The only exceptions would probably be the Kouki arc, the Tio arc, and the Endo arc. These were rather heavy and were comparable to the original story. Not to mention that we are thoroughly reminded of Hajime's... more>> overpowered, epic powers. I highly recommend this reading if you are into magic, weaponry, strong love interests, multiple worlds, and an unbelievably strong protagonist. <<less

I actually had the opportunity to read the story to completion and I can say whole heatedly that the author f*cked up a good premise and characters beyond all recognition. The reasons are:

  1. Creating the most generic harem in the history of harems
  2. Piss poor attempts to create suspense that fall pathetically flat because of the DBZ effect. (When a series runs into a situation of raising the bar too often, aka the Supernatural effect)
  3. The most moody and chunni of characters to ever exist. I swear this mofo starts out as a fantastic character and just degrades into every broody teenager ever.
  4. The most fantastical ending to what was set up to be dark fantasy ever.
    Spoiler

Everyone important to the protagonist lives, becomes immortal, and so on.

Its beyond annoying because there are so many things this story had going for it in the beginning that would have made it great and then it just turned into grindy harem bullshit. I mean you had a chance to make a badass story an f*ck it up like this? Its pathetic.

Having a good OP, good building character and illustration, but the story afterward extremely shit.

Making gun, car (or should I say it's tank?) has powerful modern weapon, WTF? The more you read, the more you see how shitty it is. Author tries to make MC become super OP character in a non-logical way, it makes the good building story become more more and more shit.

eeto.... This is the first novel that read after I saw the manga and....

I've finish reading the story until the main end and continue for extra story without seeing the comment of others.... and so far... because I completed it, I see that many people don't like how Hajime is progressing at the start of the novel (which I respected it).... but for the newcomers here's my review

So basically many people are interested at Hajime's transformation scene (both physically and mentally) then after he resolve himself to kill other people... more>> for the sake of revenge and after that our Main Heroine enters the scene wherein she makes a big influence on Hajime's behavior (and that is why Hajime doesn't kill other people anymore needlessly (unless it's an "enemy")) but he's still a badass and powerful.

Spoiler

And so about what other dislike is his action which contradict his first resolution in the abyss... for me if he stay like that he will just go rampage and kill everyone else (which Hajime states in a duel between Ehito in a certain chapter) and because Yue's existence is good for him, he is grateful that somehow he have someone to share his misfortune with (and with that Hajime's grudge against humanity somehow lessen which I think that's the reason of other commentors' hate for the whole story and I think that is the best route for him)

and oh yeah... in a certain chapter he will worry (it may not show in the surface but his shadow reveal it to him) that he may not go back to his older self because his hand is soiled by blood

And he's a Tsundere which I found it very interesting

[collapse]

With that I somehow make a first review of my favorite novel and this is the one that makes want to read more novel (somehow it becomes my motivation, I usually dislike reading because I thought its boring). And there's are few bedscene in the story but there are little information about that so you don't have to worry with that one

And why this is a waste... there's a few protagonist like him (which is not dense and makes a good judgment (in a conversation or in a battle)) <<less

I'll be honest with you, this story started off promising, then it just dropped downhill.
Spoiler

I really tried reading on, hoping something would change. I actually read a bit further than that, and read the Chinese translation. He actually ends up bringing along his classmates to power lvl because of that "lonely way of life" crap, and one who asked was everyone's least favourite hero-wannabe Kouki. At that point I was like "that's it, I give up, it's a lost cause".

[collapse]

If you came here for a op hero traveling the world kinda experience, It's meh but acceptable. If you came here for the revenge, it's a disappointment.

I often re-read the beginning chapters of Arifureta before it gets f**ked up and think about what went wrong... the fact that the author made it a harem was mostly the reason...

Wait no that's the ENTIRE reason.

Every damn arc the guy gets some new girl added to his harem, sometimes I can deal with it because it is toned down at times but adding in guy character to their party and then killing every girl except Yue and Tio would be GREAT but we cant always get what we want... more>> even though I dream about it every night <<less

One of the worst novel I have ever read. The 2nd female lead is so dumb it's stereotypical. The humor is not funny but annoying. The MC has many loli into his harem. I hate Harem too.

The first volume is quite good because the themes are quite mature and dark, being thrown in the depth of the abyss and despair, the MC manage to overcome thoses trials and become badass.

Confronted to this situation, his character obviously changed and if people didn't like Arifureta, it's probably because the rest of the serie doesn't go the same way of the 1st vol. They become disappointed because they expected the same dark and mature themes of the 1st vol, but they find light and funny situations instead.

I however think... more>> that it's not a reason to hate the series that much, and I personally liked it. People should be more easy going, and not absolutely hate and flame the whole thing, even if thay didn't like it, because I don't think it deserves that much hate.

And... well... I am a sucker for OTP so... yeah... All hail Hajime x Yue <<less

I kinda read this when I started reading novels. So my opinion is kinda lame. After seeing various animes and mangas where the MC got his ass kicked by enemies friends and girls, and even after that, just acting like nothing happened, so this maybe had some influence but whatever.

It was a nice read, I didn't care to how it was wrote that much, it made sense enough for me, the part it was truly translated, good, the mtl worse but also didn't matter much for me.

It was a dark... more>> beginning but I liked it quite a bit, it made a setting so that MC got matured earlier. And by the reviews here (mainly the - ones) says that he is an ass with no hope and some girls got kicked in his harem and that is it.
IT IS A HAREM, he will get some girls, why ppl can't deal with it? He got gloomy pretty much he was forced to do so, F***, try be in some dark place with your lifeline for months when your most recent interaction with humans was a betrayal? If not for the loli vampire, I guess he'll be pretty much a scary near immortal Demon Lord.

HE IS A TSUN, ohhh but ppl can't deal when it happen with guys. He is an human, and is constantly struggling with himself, he hate the ppl who betrayed him, but it's not like he'll just shot everyone dead because of that. The girls became the most important part to melt his cold heart, and the more this happen more tsun he get, just because he can't accept his past and get over it, and love to give half-assed excuses to save the day. <<less

It was great.. Really great. But why harem?!! Why are the majority of Japanese novels so obsessed with harem. At the start it was great, the MC was weak but got the power and potential to be the strongest. And although I'm not so fixated on revenge but I definitely don't like it when the MC are trampled around by others and he did almost nothing about it.

it's harem, even though MC reject other female because he has Yue, but the other female just selfishly cling onto him... but I think I can understand all of female's feeling for getting attention from person who their loved.

Recommended if you like a slightly darker theme while not being to heavy as the development is nicely done.

The amount of proof-reading in the chapters later on fall by the translators in Japtem making a somewhat bad experience but overall a nice novel

I think it was pretty good actually. I admit that it a bit slow at first and volume 2 gets a little boring but after that it get really better. The author is really really good at writing fighting scene (EPIC). Overall u should give it a try you won't regret it.

This is one of my favorite anti-hero novels. Getting betray and abandon, alone on death bed... kill demons and eat them to survive, gain power. He does not really do any revenge, but he will kill if someone block his path. Very dark and also very good to read. Have s*xual thing, but it does not describe the detail so I guess it's fine? Anyway, I recommend it to those that like OP MC and anti-hero series.

What I appreciated of this novel was the harem-but-not-so-harem setting. The protagonist was very serious about the main love interest and, honestly, this fact that was estabilished early on was refreshing. For once I liked the main girl too.
Spoiler

When the second girl was.. Let's say.. Phisically accepted, in the later chapters, it felt a lot like the author went "I'm nearing the climax of the story, let's give the readers a proper harem".

[collapse]
It was unneeded, a bit forced and that, added to the excessive lenght of certain parts of the story, put me off a little.
