I came for goblins building a kingdom. I started reading this for something a bit dark following tags like: Depictions of Cruelty, r*pe, Wars, Monster Society. But it's all so soft. Instead of really digging into the material, Goblin Kingdom sprinkles its pages with some light progression, a light shower of blood and then legit anything else you can think of: angsty internal conflict, human/monsters relationship, sexy nuns, an entire pantheon of gods that boils down to a goddess with daddy issues, curses by god, curses by another god, curses... more>> by a potential love interest... and more all in 30 chapters. Also, the litRPG portions are really poor.

TLDR: 10 lbs. of sh*t in a 5 lb. bag. <<less

ughh.. I can't see any progress about the Goblin King talk about world domination.. The clichés that always make his opponents general to scape before death kinda sucks as it is repetitive on his every battle and there's this level system to make them strong but they don't take advantage of this. Ughh don't know what to say but It's kinda exhausting to think about all of this and his subordinates is just (full of pwd) person with disability like the elf pale that should be battle tactician that should... more>> advice in battle is roaming in human town tf did he spare her for? This novel makes me ret*rd (the author don't know how to organize the character in their place) and MC is too lenient for his enemy (I bet he'll die even before taking a single Kingdom)

And one more thing, The Goblin King is a HUGE SIMP!

-this novel frustrates me somehow that I made effort to comment even my grammar and English is messed up. <<less

Here I got something to say to people allready reading, I would not like to drive away anyone from reading this since I enjoy it quite a bit, it s just me yapping about some stuff that dissatisfies me. ... more>>
Spoiler

There is one thing that bugs me and takes a lot from the story and that is MC goal. There are so much ways for our MC to progress as a character but all we got is everchanging character with ever changing thoughts and opinions. One time he things and acts like he ll become king by using his mobs and another time he doesn t want his mobs to die. ahh this is the worst, with a character like this you can t expect anything and the character is just everchanging and there is no real progress. For example the story could have been set up for him being reborn as weak goblin and him getting the taste of the weak races suffering and him getting to like his fellow specimen and leading them to glory. I don t eat author sh*t by him saying that goblins don t have the instinct of family and act on instinct and pursue only power. Or he could just go against gods who got him and his fellows the way he is, like fighting against the destiny since he was from the start destinied to become strong and die by some heroes hands. There is not even any clear reason for him to becoming a king and the world conquest. Like why the f*ck do that? It s one thing to want to survive and become the leader and deal with threats but our MC is not a coldhearted killer so why mindlessly kill people in his path of world conquest when he can t even hold resolve to kill impending threats like the saint. I got to this chapter fairly quickly so I can see all of the development still freshly. It could be just so much better if author made MC follow clear goal. Like he should choose to kill the girl or just get her on his side. She said she will be going against him but in the end it s gods who are making her do that. She could just abadon her god. And I don t understand why MC is dealing with everyone differently. By logic some characters as they are portrayed to be won t bend and some will just cooperate, some will bear grudge etc. But MC is acting like he doesn t care. You know if he is to be a king than he should act like one. I don t get why he let gimli clans people die acting as baits and not care when gimli is allready subordinated and acknowledge MC as king. f*ck man that Gnara clan was full of dissatisfied people and had that c*cky girl as leader without much ability. He should make some people examples and get rid of old stubborn gobling and recruit young flexible blood, they would get to know in time that their elders were shortsighted and didn t recignize the rightfull king. I know what you think... Not all MC have to get their goal by killing mindlesly and stuff, but then for what reason is author presenting us characters with personalities when they are acting completly different from how they are portrayed. Logickly MC should get in favor with inteligent strong and obedient and as he is shown he should punish and organize those clans. In the end MC is not looking into future at all. I don t get him at all. It s like some guy just set his goal for becoming the best bodybouldier on planet but not only does he not know anything about being a bodybuilder he is going for it wrong. He doesnt set any goal like getting 10 kg of pure muscles up or anything like that and just builds up muscle disbalances on his way of becoming the biggest bodybuilder. Ahh and than there is leveling system which is completly wrong too. Like our MC progressed as rare goblin to next race by killing one orc but his tribe fought so much opponents and only few evolved. Than he gets levels just from overcoming something or accomplishing something which is weird. I don t get how those small pups just playing aroung got 20 levels up and the kobold girl hunting prey got zero levels. So how exactly is this level up system working? The naming sense is the worst too. MC could have done so much more and thats what I like the most about these kingdom building novels. It s those small things you enjoy. f*ck MC is actually more uncivilized than goblins. Not wearing clothes and stuff and f*cking everything else, like him getting to know leader goblins got surnames. And the time is going too quickly. By the authors timing it hasn t even been 2 mounths since him getting born but by all the events timing its been around three weeks. I don t know where he got that one mounth in the orc village. Basickly it got some strong points but got even more weaker points. There is so much I kinda expect from these novels like world building and MC training from weak nobody and discovering magic and stuff. If author is not certain about his numbers and how it will work than it s just better to not use definite description in numbers, that just corners him. The game like premise is weak too. It feels like those skills and other stuff are there just to fill the space. They re just taking away the storys value. Well there is a lot to say but I will end it here. I just said some things I had on my mind and I definitly could have said them in a better way. So sorry for my grammer and I hope you got what I wanted to express, it would make me happy if you commented on agreeing or disagreeing with my statesments.

I read some of this one about 2 years ago but didn't remember why I stopped reading. After reading 30 chapters in (forcing myself over half the way) it makes sense why I stopped reading, I'll just list some of the problems I have with it:

  1. The strength levels are inconsistent - something that was easily beaten is suddenly hard
  2. The requirements for leveling up/evolving are inconsistent, to fit the author's half-assed plot
  3. The MC doesn't have any interesting personality traits,
    Spoiler

he struggles with some being a beast and with some gods trying to control him, but that doesn't do much for the characters

    [collapse]
  4. The story just doesn't make much sense in general, the author clearly had no idea of where he was going with it and didn't have the skills to make a story that is coherent in any way.
It's one of those novels where you can keep on listing flaws, but going on would be a waste of time, just like this novel.

Starts out as a copy of Re:Monster but less edgy, finds its own feet while tapering off the reliance on hackneyed skill systems, turns into a story consisting largely of shonen battle scenes, and falls apart in the war with humans when every character with a name starts being spared in battles for no reason. Also, the MC has turned into an idiot.

I don't know what got into the author at the start of the human war, but from that point it's been frustrating to read.

Some might say this is not Re-monster and completely different and they are right, but the guy definitely have read re-monster and decide to rip off the story by telling the plot differently and at the same time stealing ideas from re-monster. So much for being original. Is just kinda like a improve version of the original work. While the story is different from Re-monster, it just as boring as that one. Maybe less of the dairy way of writing with days and stuff, but still really boring. Both are... more>> about goblin kingdom building. What's the point of it? If you have read 1 of them, you can skip the other one. Reading both will only get you annoyed. <<less

There's this girl called pale in the story. She does everything she could to go against the goblin army. Her side was losing until she comes into help, what couldve ended very quickly ended up lasting longer because of her. She calls the goblins savages, but ignores the elves enslaving the demihumans, instead she keeps going down on the chief until they betray her in the end. The main character doesn't care because she is hot and because she's a good strategist but when they have her in custody she's already useless because she is now blind, though he says he cares about the horde he does not punish her for prolonging the battle nor does he do anything to punish the people going against him, like the lives of the people who fought did not matter.

Keep in mind she has this deep as connection to the wind god and is suppose to be nice. Truly flawed how she didn't give a damn about the demihumans that were ens*aved. She did not get punish for almost killing MC, he's the goblin king for f sake. I hated her so much throughout the elf unification wars because she got away with so much shitting on the mc's head

Now that I am calm all that I can say about this novel is that it is disapointing and it wasted a lot of it's potential.

The author chose to lesser the development for some reason and gave up or forgot a lot of things that he established in the start; he even went as far as crippling some characters that would make things interesting.

The first chapter was very interesting. This story is very unique and interesting. Most of the time you read about the MC is a human and you only see the humans point of view but seeing the view of a monster is nice. Read just one chapter and it hooked me in, going to continue reading.

Reviewed at chapter 16. So this novel has a interesting concept.. Our MC is a goblin. "Oh so its a re:monster rip off then!" you might say, well no not really as the two has different goals and.. Powers. Anyways the story is feeling a little bit rushed, but it's interesting none-the-less.

I do recommend this if you like remonster.. (Go figure right?) =P or slime tensei

This Novel is GOOD. Kingdom building with many elements that reasonable enough.

hm... there are many Review about Goblin side, but not from Antagonist side. but its hard to do without spoiler.

hm... let see...

some plot was have big hole, and some was not makes any sense, underestimate plot is enough. (only 1-2 war, then the enemy recognise the Goblin Army). as it should be. the war was good, not great but reasonable enough that you can imagine the lineup and progress of the war in your head. BUT, many of those... more>> battle especially BIG battle have some enemies that makes my eyes rollin and really REALLY strange.

i mean, think about it, if you are a general, who lead some 1000s or 2000s soldier, put into some big shot army, accept their role to lead YOUR Army, got briefing in war council, know the strategy, Agree to it, then move into formation, what will you do ?

Follow the strategy, right ?

Waiting the signal, right ?

Stick to the plan, right ?

waiting or follow the messenger, right ?

THEN WHY, this Veteran soldier, Elite army, General, with Big Name, and dozens of War Experience, act like some idiot teenager. like :

start of battle, Goblin King go in front of the army, and said his piece. THAT IS A PARLEY.

what did they do ? some 'elite soldier' shoot arrow. WITHOUT ORDER ! WHAT ? and nobody make a fuss. I mean REALLY ?.

In the heat of battle, no order, no signal, no previously agreed strategy, no messenger, nope, nada. not even a weak point to be exploited. what those "Veteran General" do ? CHAAAAARGE !!! LET'S GO !!! FOLLOW ME !!!.

another battle, Goblin Army, WITHOUT siege weapon, only have Cavalry, the defenders outmatched 2:1 sometimes more, NOT FULLY SURROUNDED, what did they do ? Sally out. (facepalm).

Overall, this novel is good, the politics is moderate at best, the army building is makes sense, the supply line is mentioned. THATS A PLUS !, the weaponry is believeable, strategy is easy to follow, unless you go deep into medieval war or early moslem expansion, you won't find any weird moves, plot HOLE, or even cringe to King journey.

You DEFINITELY WILL ENJOY this Gem.

4.5 stars from me. (-0.5 for some weird dumb s*hit that happened sometimes, including the half a*sed romance).

Spoiler

WHY ! WHY OH WHY AUTHOR MAKE Blanche Ririnoie DIE !!! Yes she was Arrogant (like every young noble or rich teenager has) but she is Genius her moves, tactics, strategy is brilliant, yes some of it is ruthless, but, is there any war without war crime ? and author just make her 'we surrender, here's the proof. (kill herself), while king, royal family, tratirous noble and general lives' and Goblin king just, 'OK' while 10+ chapter he (Goblin King) rant 'I need talented people to help me build my country, and win the war'

Blanche way more better than Pale be it in Government and Military or Expansion and Exploration

A unique protagonist and interesting world building which hooked me and as MC grew in power so did my interest.

There are some flaws but they're not that much of a burden to me at least. The foreshadowing hints at some tragedies that may befall MC and it actually kinda fits.

This world is a cutthroat one so MC grows and so do the enemies he has to fight. This is one of the first novels I've read on this site with a non human protagonist (I actually read this novel way... more>> back in 2017/18) and it shows the MC adapting to his non human nature quite well.

The battles especially are well written and I definitely feel the pressure and tension on the MC during fights. The side characters also play crucial roles in the story and are not just some glorified cardboard character to make MC look good. The kingdom building part is also quite well done and his rise to power is very nicely done. This is definitely one of the better novels I've read with a non human protagonist. The character development is good and MC gaining strength is believable within the standard of the world. The goddess is also a crazy but memorable character. Ah I really enjoy reading MC using a double edged sword at crucial moments. Really adds some good tensions. I also appreciate the translation quality and it's one of the best.

Overall 3.2 stars out of 5 <<less

A good story takes time, you can not expect for action to happen in the same chapter the diplomacy did, if the battlefield is across the map.

If you are craving a power fantasy, this will not be for you, as the MC actually needs to do political stuff, to keep his kingdom from falling apart.

Great read, if you are in for the long run, it's worth it.

No depth in characters, no depth in worldbuilding, even god itself is not have depth. A story of 12 years old neet boy's view. Don't recommend, dont waste your precious time at this one.

The setting looks a bit like Re:Monster at the beginning but it does not develop as well as it should have. The author seems to push for quantity rather than quality as the chapters continue tbh. The main character turns out to be incompetent and blindly following human practices and mindset, even though it would have been illogical and very dangerous to do so. It totally strayed from the calm protagonist/ strategist route. There are many dull side stories and things get even more boring later. I think some people lack the understanding and/or ability to read nuance in some writing styles. This novel Though I have only read to Volume 2, was a great read!

Like honestly one of the best binge reads I have had in a while. I like the fact that this character was once human and that the author and the story is telling us that he is no longer human! Like literally every other reincarnation you get you have some s*upid fans who say "oh it's harem in that world its... more>> normal" but the author never said that it was normal to the character, the character never said that his psyche was impacted by a world change. Fanatic readers love to make assumptions, and rightfully so things are open to interpretation, however there is no justification in that just speculation.

In this novel (at least volume 1) I like that there is very little room for speculation, as the foreshadowing and storytelling is leading you on a direct path. There is no question that this is a reincarnation novel, but there is no question that our main character IS NOT in body nor in mind HUMAN. The more the story progresses the more I begin to realize just how unique this this and honestly it is the closest I have ever seen one fo these novels come to a western style of story telling. Impressed. <<less

Goblin kingdom has interesting premise and world building. The plot is not just success after success but there are set backs. So there are a lot of good elements. I recommend to try it out. However, it suffers from having too many named characters with little impact on the story and somewhat repetitive battle scenes.

This is a great story with great world building and characters. It is essentialy motivated by chinese novels to the point that it really feels like reading a xuanhuan novel, but with a certain japanese touch to it. The main character is great but not overpowered, which is often the problem with japanese novels. I am glad that main character needs to work to get where he is. As far as re:monster similarities go, aside from both characters being goblins and kings, I see no further similarities. This novel is... more>> far superior in pretty much everything. Re:monster is just standard cliche isekai in comparison. The only problem I might have with this novel is that it centers around goblins, and that is because it feels unrealistic that the state of goblins was so bad before the MC appeared, since after evolving once their intelligence is already almost at the level of humans and even before the MC came they had a functioning society, taking in consideration how easily they can evolve (MC and everyone evolved to their limits in barely 2-3 years). And after that you just forget that they are goblins completely by how humanlike they are. I would have liked, if author used the setting of beastmen or elves, but I realise that I am nittpicking at this point. 5/5 great novel <<less

there is one big problem with this novel, and it can be found in the tags, Beautiful Female Lead and Romantic Subplot. They simply should not exist, if only they didn't then the novel would be so much better, things would be different.

Spoiler

MC was forced to kneel in front of a blessed girl of a "good" goddess, but instead of hating that goddess, MC started hating on the "evil" goddess that has blessed MC and gave him power. Why? No reason. Apparently evil goddess was "messing" with mc's mind, but that good goddess messing with MC even more is irrelevant. Very quickly it can be seen how MC is being turned into a pet by this mysterious female lead, all under the guise of "humanity", while contradicting himself by considering that he is a monster now and should act like one. The dichotomy between MC giving up his past life of being human, and the life of a monster who for no good reason decides to act "humane" while talking about being a monster, boggles the mind.

[collapse]
i'd say that MC is being manipulated by fl, but this is a japanese novel, so maybe it's just that japanese p**syboy spirit ruining an otherwise good novel.
i remember reading this novel before, but I quit for whatever reason. Now I found it again but after reading just over a dozen chapters I remembered the things I disliked about it. Who knows, maybe female lead dies and MC can continue with the novel as normal, but I doubt that, japanese writers certainly don't inspire trust to kill off female characters and stop the bs <<less

A hit-or-miss. There's a lot of world-building and detailed, lengthy narratives that sometimes make the plot development feel circuitous and confusing. Nonetheless, it is a satisfying action/adventure/fantasy epic that has interesting settings, characters, relationships, and dialogue.

This is a novel that takes time to read and enjoy, definitely your average, quick fix of reincarnated power fantasy.
