First things first, she needs to survive and latch onto the big thigh of a patron. But the supporting male lead is a true gentleman and feels nothing for her stunning, alluring body. That’s alright! She’ll latch onto the old madame or the male lead then!

But why does the supporting male lead look at her with increasingly odd eyes? And what of that Wulin Alliance Head with the personality disorder? You’re just a random bystander, what are you getting involved for??

Finally, the male lead could bear it no longer and dragged her back to the Prince Li Manor…

First off, I can understand those who have lower rating on this because honestly I hated the first arc which is ... more>>
Spoiler

When she fell in love with the second male lead, those times were the worst. Well... together with the original female lead who was s*upid as shit. No jokes.

[collapse]

Aside from my hatred with the original female lead's s*upidity and the occasional threatening other snakes that would touch the ML, the MC is really good. I love her character. The story is amazing and even if it was already a long time ago that I have completed reading this, it truly stayed with me and made me remember all those scenes.

Do not be intimidated with the chapters please and read it. You won't regret it. Plus the hilarity of having that cactus and the convenience it gave is amusing and funny too. <<less

I love how the author kept shading the usual female leads in novels especially those who are indecisive ones that made reader frustrated all the time... LMAO

This also changed my criteria/views in choosing novels, I now clearly AVOID... flighty and troublemaker female leads like Miss Lin who kept making wrong/dumb choices such as always escaping male leads for no reason and those who easily believed in rumors.

Spoiler

In my opinion, it feels like the ML was the one who given a 2nd chance in rewriting his love story that he deserved better when he had toxic relationship and being cat-and-mouse with the flight Ms. Lin on the original book.

MC is the best girl for him who is unproblematic and loyal compared to Ms. Lin who got parade of boyfriends. In this, he is happier and got more stable relationship.

Spoiler free review:

  1. Pro: Really interesting story and MC - you don't know wtf will happen. Con: About later chapters, the author uses lots of deus ex machina (aka magic or handwaving) to pass some events. It kinda takes the fun out of the interesting things when it's so cheap.
  2. The male lead is quite cute and loyal to the female lead, there is no frustration or wishy-washyness with him. Con: The rival female lead keep reoccurring ilike weeds and make you wanna bang head on wall in frustration.
  3. Translation is really really good, this is probably one of the cleanest and most enjoyable translation I've read in a while. Bless the editor for making the sentences flow smoothly. Bless the translators for not spamming hanyupinyin words all over the place too.
I'll say... more>> this is a novel I'd read once and enjoy but I don't think I will reread again. If you like a romance, can tolerate some handwaving, like protective and loyal male leads and funny main character, this is up your alley.

Spoiler

First, I don't mind the whole part where they talk a lot about her beauty, neither do I mind that she's like a fragile glass vase and falls over and gets sick all the time and she later uses that to her advantage. The talking cactus is okay too. The parasites by that villain made me like "ok you're on thin ice for deus ex machina". But the one I really don't like is the whole black flower wish plant where it makes everyone faint around her. They could have used some other method like handwave some secret guards into knocking out everyone around her or some cool deus ex machina. The blood-sucking flower plant just felt s*upid.

The whole thing with the emperor and also the other transmigrated woman really came out of left view. I understand the author had to like settle everything: her husband, her past, her future so she needed foils for that, but it just felt like very cheap. Honestly it felt a bit of a drag to read this at like chapter 110 ~ 200 and I was speed reading. I think honestly if I do reread it, I'll reread the earlier parts cuz the misunderstandings between her and the male lead were really funny and cute romance. But like a lot of deus ex machina later on is very eeeee. It felt like she as a woman was kinda weak and had to rely on magical things when it came to dealing with like the jianghu and the wars etc unlike in the beginning where she could handle the household politics by herself. Well, I mean yeah her character is just a concubine with some intelligence and it's not a book heavy on politics and military so I guess her going around outsmarting people wouldn't be that up the alley. It still felt disappointing.

I'd say the highlight of the book (for me) is really how her husband pamper her and how she manages to make a family in the world she transmigrated in. The funny misunderstandings also help.

While I found it an overall compelling read and one of the better novels of its genre, some parts of it still are iffy to me.

Spoiler

treatment of the original female lead is just plain terrible. Yes she's an idiot who attracted the trouble to herself, but a lot of it was avoidable imo if anyone actually cared enough. Also the whole make her bedridden for days after s*x was s*upid too

[collapse]

It could have better, but it ties off loose ends pretty well imo. Definitely worth a read.

First you had to know the term concubine before you read this story. It doesn't mean girlfriend, wife, female friend or any close semblance to human in modern era. It is term to birthing machine (especially for sons). Normally, even if they are favored by their master/owner, it is of s*xual related term. Don't go saying Bai Xiangxiu got about every weak association attached and she is suppose to be a strong willed woman of the 21 century with our values. Heavens! She got into that body against her will... more>> with all those constitutions and her first experience is seeing a young girl got flogged to death. She inherited our values as well as deep understanding of her ancient Chinese values and she knows the supposed ending of her new body, of course she is calculative and cautious of her surrounding. If you can't empathy with her, then you must not know of historical setting based on true history here. Terms such as human right is non existing to women, especially those of lower class. Women are always beneath men. The decree of Emperor (Son of the Heaven) is absolute unless you want your entire household (mother, father, children, wives, concubines, servant, guards) to be purged to nothingness. If you had problem with morals, human right, integrity, dignity and values using current era as standard, then don't bother reading this book or any other Palace/Dynasty related book.

This story is quite good. Its pacing is quite fast but not super speedy. At first read, I don't find too many inconsistency with the plot, just pure pleasant journey of Bai Xiangxu (FL) understanding that her long gone standing from cannon fodder to that of female lead and she is being pampered by Long Heng (ML). There is occasional unsatisfactory plot revelation such as
Spoiler

FL true identity and background, her arch nemesis from previous world and their long debts due, in depth understanding of ML thought of her origin and also they stressed so many times the possibility of her returning to real world with the doctors numerous time finding her breath gone yet didn't says to ML and when ML also found out of this, she still come back to life once again but sadly until the end no clear reasoning of this behaviour as well as the author seems prone to leave it as it is.. Even though it repeatedly being mentioned like it had a big secret plot but pooff non; her consciousness drifting to original world also lack reasoning, her coworker, her real family makes VERY short appearance but no proper introduction or connection. And, her real body! What happen to it then after long years? When Su Yun dead body found in the hotel, who is the guy found dead with her on the same bed? It got mentioned but no proper explanation.

[collapse]
but then it had clumsy closure. In short, all this unsatisfactory plot revelation comes from later half of the novel, near the end. It got proper build up and actions from first half, then it speeds up until you're too dizzy with sudden events that may or may not be important. It actually made me think if the author already started new series and feeling impatient to close this book. Which is not a nice experience for me as a reader.

Inconsistencies found after reading it multiple times (yes, I re-read multiple times because I love ML method of loving FL in ancient setting, I repeat ancient. He truly fall for her by raising her status, not only in name but in every possible aspects with his full ability. He first of course approach her with mind set as master & concubine. But slowly, as he falls deeper, he began to feel it is not right to treat her as mere concubine, going as far as thinking she should not address herself as "This concubine". So yup, I keep coming back for the fluff.)
Spoiler

1. The conflict of her unwilling to change resident to Apricot Pavilion because she needs to be in the same place as she came in order to go back. However, before this she desperately want to move into Song house for safety and avoiding death of original body. For concubine, once you change household how can you have easy access Winter Court anymore? Then, she indeed change resident to Apricot easily and had no problem sneaking out to Winter on the day of Ghost Festival. Well, this conflict true purpose might be to show ML tolerant for his woman and their relationship development where they had first martial quarrel, but it the way it is written is not too well.

2. The relation of her and cactus, Huo'er. Huo'er is indeed her biggest cheat. However, it remains mystery why she had this ability. Is this her original cactus that brought her into the novel, or the cactus power is one of original FL cheat prepared by the plot god but unexpectedly snatched by her. This makes me feel more and more frustrated as Huo'er keep being more powerful but until the end it remains unknown.

3. ML got antidote-for-poison-blood right? Why in earlier chapter when YunZheng poisoned BXX, Long Heng didn't cure her with his blood? Is it because his feeling still shallow so this secret and intimate act of giving blood (exchange fluid lol) is contradicting his suspicious character?

[collapse]

All in all, I love Long Heng so much! Bai Xiangxiu too! Old madame too! And Yu Kuang is my ideal man! LH x BXX love journey is simply praiseworthy. After all they did attain
Spoiler

the Dragon seat

[collapse]
lol I will rate higher if their children got more appearances despite some questionable events. The rating also might be higher if the translation is smoother. Not that it is bad or unreadable, it is just personally feels lack of ancient chinese touch for me. Great effort of the translator though for translating 295 chapters completely :) <<less

So sweet~!

Yes, others have written reviews saying there are plot holes, the MC is dumb, the ML is annoying, etc. But hey, this doesn't take away the fact that the ending is a satisfying HE! At least for me it is~

The beginning of the story may have been slow and a bit hard to understand because the MC is so focused on not being beaten to death like the original storyline and trying her best to get the ML to fall in love with the so-called female lead that the... more>> writing seems jumbled up, but I promise the story gets better. When the MC tries to get the second male lead to fall in love with her, that's when the plot slowly picks up and sometimes hilarious moments ensue. Later on, the MC actually uses her brains to get out of sticky situations that are cliché but still worth reading as the story gets more and more interesting. The novel is very well-written and a great way to pass the time, so I recommend this story to those who like transmigration novels with a big dose of sweetness at the end! <<less

Extremely lovable, that's a perfect way to summarize this novel. The story is well paced in my own opinion as the romance doesn't feel forced nor awkward.

Kudos to the translators and editors for completing this translation, thank you for making it understandable for a reader such as I.

I really enjoyed reading this piece and would've liked to have a glimpse of the future with the main characters of this book.

To keep it short if you're a fan of non-cliche transmigration stories this one is right just for you. Compared to... more>> the usual coldblooded assassins or harem making/ breaking story, this one is very loyal. You'll be thinking of supporting this MC for she's not the usual revenge driven nor airhead character, at least she has a good head on her shoulders and doesn't depend too much on ML if anything ML is the one to depends on MC.

Love love love.

Translation: 5/5

Plot: 3/5

Characters: 4/5

Thoughts: pretty standard transmigration setup, liked the MC and the ML grows on you. The plot turns are somewhat expected, but it is an entertaining read. The beginning is very good and the relationship development was cute. The ending feels a bit rushed and some of the later developments come out of left field, the plot is like swiss cheese by then, but hey, fun read!

Hated this novel. The characters in it are downright despicable. The male characters treat people like dirt, beating servants to death on a whim. They are total chauvinists pigs when it comes to women or their rights. The female main character also really makes me want to throw up. She's suppose to be a modern woman but she just turns a blind-eye to these happenings and even ends up liking these dirt bags. It's as much fun as reading about a r*pe victim falling in love their rapists. Really does... more>> my head in. To top it off most of the novel is about how she spends her days acting like a chicken sh*t spoiled princess.

It's really hard to believe a novel like this is actually aimed at women as it sets a terrible role model. <<less

The novel got a very good beginning and middle, but the rushed end destroy the story as whole. This is a very good story that you can enjoy from beginning to mid, but not the ending because it is not planned and executed well like beginning and middle part.

In the beginning, I loved this novel a lot. It gave off an ancient China tone of elegance with a dash of comedy. Almost everything was logical.

Then, after the ML and MC hooked up, a bunch of random plot holes were thrown in.
Spoiler

A magical plant that saves the MC just happens to grow next to her when she needs it, and she actually knew about the properties of the magical plant from 'modern' knowledge. This part threw me off.

[collapse]

As the story progresses, things were becoming more and more unrealistic favoring the MC. The ancient China flavor was kinda gone.

But, I loved how understanding the mother-in-law was and how there was so much face-slapping. The extra chapters were so satisfying and funny too. Overall, it was a good read, even though the style of writing changed.

At the beginning, this novel started off as one of my favorites. The characters were cute and funny and the story had potential. Unfortunately, as the story progressed (or in this case regressed) I started dreading reading it. The male lead became a s*x fiend and the female lead became this OP woman with abilities that popped out of nowhere. Their love seemed forced and the character development was just lacking. And let's not even get started on the plot, that sh*t was just everywhere. Everything just became one cliche... more>> after another which left me constantly rolling my eyes. Albeit I still enjoyed the comedy aspect as it kept me entertained and I loved some of the side characters but I just lost interest in the main couple and the plot along the way. All in all, if you want a book with plot and character development this book is not it. If you just want a meh novel to pass the time that is funny with some cute side characters, go ahead and give this a try. <<less

I am so happy I picked this up to read! Truly the number 1 on my list, and it's because of our adorable "Cannon Fodder" turned Main Character lol. I never understand what moe means until I started reading this. I'm a girl but if I were a guy, I'd fall in love with Bai Xiangxiu. There's really nothing I hate about this novel as it's well written; the main characters are solid; the true cannon fodders- you'll hate but you'll be satisfied with how they will end up.

Highly recommended!
