This novel had potential to be something great.. Needless to say the ball was dropped at the end, but don't let that deter you away from reading this. The MC is what I like to call "The last of a good thing" for a while. Reason I say this is because our MC here is OP, and.. Not so weak-willed when fights break out.. He only has a guilt problem to his home.. Not so bad..
I do recommend this novel for people who like post-apocalyptic worlds in the future,... more>> and alien monsters.. And.. Waifus.. And badass fights. <<less

I came to dislike this novel. WARNING SPOILERS AHEAD!
Spoiler

At first you get OP MC (I love OP), after that in whole 25 volumes MC developed 2-3 new moves and that's all. That was all his improvement. By the end most of his friends caught up to him in strength, some even surpassed him and at the end of the novel it's difficult even call him MC (Nina took that place I guess). There were countless cities but only 2 were explored and only 2-3 others were mentioned. World exploration really s**ked in this one. There were several other disappointing factors but It had been long time since I read this so.

This was one of the first translated light novel/ web novels I ever read. Needless to say, I really liked the setting, and especially some of the main characters. MC isn't weak physically at all, but isn't always motivated to fight due to his guilt. I guess you can even say that his character development is based on overcoming his guilt in a "coming of age" type of story.

First of all Yes the ending is satisfying. Yes the story is properly completed and plot holes sorted out. Yes its a satisfying read.... ish.

But the story, and MC especially are polarising. Some love it some don't. Me, I'm in the latter camp. My biggest and probably only peeve is the MC himself. I mean the entire series he is brought up to be like some kind of super soldier with extraordinary powers, nigh invincible, limited only by his weapon. They keep building him up and boom someone else takes... more>> the cake at the end. It wasn't even a gradual build up, I mean it all happened suddenly within the last couple of volumes. That really ticked me off I mean why advertise the MC if he's gonna be a mere ornament at the end? Because that's what he becomes. He barely does anything, let alone anything of importance. The entire buildup was frustrating. The author could have achieved a similar and more satisfying result by adding multiple leads but nope.

Apart from that "small" detail, the rest of it is actually pretty good. World Building, characters, lore, its all as close to perfection as possible. The ending, apart from the hero problem is suprisingly satisfying, fitting the tone of the story perfectly. Overall it's almost good enough to overlook any flaws it has.

At the end of the day its a somewhat polarising story, a flawed masterpiece if you will. <<less

This could have been really entertaining. Unfortunately the writing is scattered all over the place. It' s almost like someone watched an typical action or fight scene and thought, I should primarily focus on all the tools used here to make this situation as annoying and drawn out as possible. This series has several flash forward scenes to start chapters and volumes, flash backs to scenes during fights, cuts to different fights during crucial moments, and time jumps. Every time I started a new volume, I was extremely tempted to... more>> just give up entirely. I finally did give up in a big battle scene when my interest level finally could no longer keep up with how annoying it was to read this gimmicky writing style.

The MC was pretty decent. He was OP and not a coward. When he was in battle mode he was pretty badass and entertaining to read about. His only stand-out downsides were characteristics that are far from being rare with male MCs, being dim and essentially as*xual (consequentially a bit dull). His back story was pretty cool too but the way it was revealed was more annoying than engaging. Also, the writer was introducing an extremely contradictory factor into the mix when I bailed on this story, so I don't know how well it held up in the long run.

The other characters were okay. A bit generic but fine. There was a hint of a harem by the time I bailed but, since the MC was so dim and/or uninterested/non-committal all the time, it didn't play a significant role.

The world and overarching plot were pretty cool. The basis for it wasn't anything new but the story's approach was actually interesting and had a lot of potential (primary reason I stuck around as long as I did in the first place).

I was really excited about actually having some time to read at this time but unfortunately this one ended with a rage quit. I'll still give it 2/5 since both the story and MC had potential. <<less

Koukaku no Regios/Chrome Shelled Regios is a story of rebels the MC rebel against 'Something' and everyone else rebel against the norm but I do agree with Lachiel they did drop the ball around the end but the ending it self was still satisfying

I have a LOT of mixed feelings about this series.

The setting is solid, but not heavily explored. The characters are tropey but strong, in fact, I absolutely adored that the author had the gall to pull off what he did during the rescue arc.

What I personally have an overriding distaste for is the overall storytelling, it's extremely scattered and the overall logic for some characters is so painfully weak that I had a hard time stomaching the writing after a while. In fact, despite investing a couple of days... more>> into reading up till volume 16 I believe, I just skimmed the last few chapters and dropped it.

I have a problem when it comes to giving a rating though, because most of the 16 volumes I read was pretty decent, albeit a bit scattered in terms of overall quality.... the fact that it annoyed me enough to drop it though.... I guess it can stay as middle of the pack. <<less
