When A Mage Revolts

Kubei was just an ordinary pencil and button pusher working a day job, hating his boss and making horrible speeches when one day he fell asleep after pushing an all-nighter. When he woke up, he was bound to a chair, facing three creepy robed women and in a body way too young and way too weak to be his own. As he slowly came to, he realized that he was no longer in the same universe as he was before. He had teleported to the Kingdom of Helius, where an all-powerful church rules its lands and wages war against the elusive group known only as Mages. Armed with an incredibly c*cky neural interface that just won’t shut up and his own sheer wit, our main character will find himself not just fighting to survive, but maybe even for something bigger than himself.

this novel is really amazing, the character growth and all. The ending seemed a bit too rushed, I hoped to know more about the reactions or the situations of the side and major characters after the battle. And the death of one of my favorite character, damn this needs a tragedy tag, made me teared up a bit. But I really want to know more about the mc's situation. :≪ all in all, this is an amazing novel, its just that the ending made me sad that's all.

P.S.: I don't... more>> get why so many people don't like this. <<less

This needs a tragedy tag. One of the most important characters died, the one funniest throughout.

With the way it ended, it feels like the story was dragged on and ended in a rush. However, it was not that bad, it's nice to read for the majority of the novel. I just feel disappointed to not know more about the elemental plane.

This title is really misleading, I doubt he has the balls to revolt against anything.

I'm so close to dropping this already and that's rare, he's just such a god damn wanker, seriously, grow a pair!

Edit:

It gets better later on, at first the MC seems clueless while just going along with everything happening around him, he does try to fight back and I guess you can call it character development, since he does go from just being toyed with to toying with others, while still not being perfect, this is in... more>> fact a thing I really like.

There are however still things I'm not satisfied with, there are a lot of times where the MC is in a situation or has thoughts he can't solve where I'll think "Isn't it just like this? It seems simple", I'm not claiming to be some highly intellectual person, so I think most readers will have a similar experience, it feels like the author is purposely dumbing down the MC unnecessarily which gets really infuriating. Aside from this the novel is really predictable, if you've read similar novels before you'll quickly catch on and predict the outcome, even the things that aren't resolved yet seem way too predictable, it could turn out later that I'm wrong, but I doubt it. There are truly unpredictable twists, but that's only when the author gives no hints at all, when he does however they are too revealing, feeling dumbed down once again.

The author keeps piling up more and more questions by introducing all manner of mysterious side characters which also begins feeling unnecessary, this together with the dumbing down of certain things mentioned earlier makes it feel like the author is looking down on his readers while trying to build up to some grand reveal at the end by trying to make it mysterious and complex, but it just feels forced and I feel like it takes the place of other important things like seeing the development of the relationship between the MC and his companions, world building in general and of course there's no romance at all, MC is totally asexual. There is potential with one girl, seems far into the future though.

The start of the novel forces the MC to focus on other things than learning about the world he's now in, he does study later, but the content is not revealed to the reader and is just stored in the AI, there are magical beasts in this world, magic potions, magical items, mysterious areas and other things, but mercenary related jobs and potion making is just delegated, leaving all these wonders unexplained.

When talking about the AI, this guy really grows on you and it's nice, I would however like it to be more than just a data bank and a GPS, it must have some processing power, being able to research different things, like all the things the MC doesn't understand that I mentioned earlier.

Lastly we have all the bad events the MC experiences, simply put, if anything can go wrong it will, nothing is ever easy, this is really refreshing in the beginning and the MC does manage to struggle through and grow, but I guess it's actually normal in Chinese novels, it makes everyone but the MC and his companions seem like bad people, there's no belief in humanity and it's just too extreme, leaving a bad taste in your mouth. There is once, but it's only for a couple of chapters. <<less

I'd really like to give it more chances but for now it's on my waiting list.. (While I don't really like making reviews based on just 10 chapters so this is only temporary until I get the urge to pick it up again)

The system the MC received to explain it shortly in it's early chapter it's basically too low-grade and annoying, as of ch10 the only use I can see for it is recording sounds & tr*sh talking conversation partner. The system is so annoying that it does not... more>> even give any good thing or advice it's just simply ridiculous. At the beginning the MC is always getting beat up almost died yet it's still up to the MC to think of everything no thanks to the system, and IMO the system is not a good conversation partner.

For me reading chapters 1-9 was already painful but at end of chapter 10 the attitude of the MC really annoyed me that I lost my patience so for now I'd give it a 2/5 if I get in the mood again to try reading I'll update my review. <<less

I think this is an intressting read. I read from chapter 1 to 20. The writer of this novel also uses "A.I" chip in the head like in the other novels of same concept. Except the writer wants his to be diffrent so he gave, the Artificiall intelligence chip that is imbedded in our main character, a personality. This is what makes me all plerplexed/flustered/unsettled... Because this personality of an A.I is funny and a pain in the ass at the same time.

If you are a traditionalist like me then... more>> you want the A.I to be helpful. In movies and other books, A.I software often do not have personalities. They calculate, and formulate awnsers with reason and within obtainable boundaries of knowledge and common sense.

This A.I here is supposed to be a fused one of a 5 year old laptop with a mobile phone and it has a personality. And so this personality is actually an annoying dumb software with retorts and banter. Which is funny at first. But it soon gets too much, really it gets too much... The banter, which many calls humour and comedy gets too much.

Anyway enough of the A.I maybe things will improve in the long run. It is an intressting read but... who knows. Maybe it will get better. Or... Worse? <<less

The story tries to be original with a lot of comedy mixed. Thanks to that I can't tell if the dumb one is our MC, his "cheat" system, or perhaps both. Not a bad read so far but needs more chapters to judge it as the translated content feels more like a prologue.

Even if it has no plot to speak of from how actually brainless it is, the fact that it lacks any progression is disappointing. But that, added with the fact that the author (yep, another one-work author whose name I won't even bother with to look twice) has less balls than an actual chicken being stolen of her eggs, things that would make sense are bent so that MC is godly, divine and-uh, perfect.

It is a gary stu with a screensmoke of comedy, which is a pity because the comedy... more>> is finally that, 'comedy' and not just hahas. However, when it came to be the 5th time that comedy decided the so-called 'progress' in less than a quarter of 100 chapters made it already obvious where it was going.

Then comes the nerfs; to me, if the author is working his novel to downgrade the MC for drama and intense purposes, besides being not just bad but also less than even talentless, I can't see them in any other light than that. And here, MC's power is an anime bait of the anime itself being definitely not like that in the first half of its first chapter, before it all indeed becomes like 'that'. No thanks, pity and frustrating, would not recommend due to its incredible superficial, forced, stretched and thoughtless work from its creator. <<less

MC transmigrates w/o memories into a noble's body, so he's not born and grown up in that world or familiar with it at all. Plus he directly finds himself in a hostage situation. That's an interesting start, unfortunately it goes to nowhere from there. Even after familiarizing himself with his new environment, he keeps doing random stuff for no reason. One is not entirely sure where he takes his confidence from and quite a few rabbits are pulled out of the hat to make him survive at all.

Then after he... more>> manages to make the big escape, going from one country to the next over and finally arrives in a new location where he buys a house and may have the chance to grow in peace, first thing he does again is mu*der someone for no reason without knowing or caring about the circumstances. And there's absolutely no need for him to stick his head out at that point: he's a mage, surrounded by mages loyal to him, plenty obvious ways to make money (he doesn't even have to do the work himself) but oh no, let's just kill this guy, because why f*cking not.

Over 25% in the novel MC still acts like a headless chicken, it gets really old. <<less

This is actually really good. The world-building is just a shame. It does get explored, but it's just not expounded on and doesn't feel like fantasy. There's a little description of each setting and whenever the MC walks into a new setting, it's just for him to exploit and we don't actually see/imagen it which is a shame.

The plot is amazing, to say the least. It has some of the most suspense I have ever read. However, I think it struggles with actually making characters which in turn har the... more>> plot's potential. Can I even call the extra characters cardboard cutouts? No, since that would imply the author actually cut out cardboard, and the author definitely put zero effort into them. There are memorable characters for sure, and they are different but that could be counted on both hands, and that's up to chapter 745. So many chapters and so few characters? The plot is carrying the novel and it does a good job, it just doesn't feel like much of a story. It's not like the novel needs the extra characters, it would just make the world an actual world since then there would be a society and actual humans, which in turn create a story. Imagen ATLA with just the Firelord and Aang. Not the same story is all right? But that's the exact situation with this novel, the characters don't need arcs, they just need to exist. <<less

this novel was one of the first I have read. I really did enjoy it and I was unable to find a novel that gave me the same amount of joy this one did.

It's a great story, especially the world building and magic system, the reason I gave it three stars is that the MC is extremely unlikable, the system might be funny but the the MC kills every moment and not in a good way and the comedy is just lame

The other thing that bothered me is inconsistency when it comes to the original body owner, first he was a wallflower next he became a spoiled brat like the author change his background on a whim

But with that said the story is... more>> still above average and worth a read <<less

I don't have the conscience to say that this is the best fantasy story, but it's close. I would even dare say that it's better than Warlock of the Magus World. Still, it's a 4 due to the flaws in the MC's personality. His character is inconsistent, sometimes very smart, sometimes extremely s*upid that if not for his system (which is the buggiest yet funniest, if given a chance to wish, I'd rather have the system as the MC because it's just too unique and humorous), he would have died... more>> ten billion times already. Anyways, that's all the fault I disliked about WAMR. The rest, world building and everything are just great. Of course, some may say the lack of romance is a flaw, but actually, because there's no bullsh*t and excessive romance in here that I managed to persist reading this, unlike Release that Witch which somehow became intolerable for me. <<less

Actually I was wrong about this novel, I wrote the first comment on the premise it was character growth, but it was actually character descend, him getting ruined by his own sins.

I thought to add a tragedy tag to the novel but that would only reduce the number of readers, and it's not really tragic.

I also never noticed dungeon defense was the opposite of dungeon attack, the game he's playing
