So in short, I do like this book.

The author seems to be very imaginative, piecing lore and mythologies into his story. However, nearing the end, it got too complicated. Fighting moves and their effects become negligible gibberish. The explanation of the moves, which easily transcends humanity, also easily transcends the readers... >_< Maybe it makes more sense if you were a magician.

At one point, nearing the end, I started skim reading. I just want to get to the part where the boss monsters got defeated! The ending also drags out... more>> to a slice of life pace. I guess, much better than other authors that kind of ended abruptly. I've gotta say, I am glad the author spent so much time on character and their developments, I wanted to know how everything ended. <<less

This is an amazing novel. There is everything a magic novel would need, from simple reading and explaining of magic books to love with dragons. The magic system is quite well explained and, save for the end maybe, it is consistent. I really don't like those "meh" MC that go all "that is the strongest spell, but it's nothing to me because I'm stronger" or those super reactions to everything.

The story focus on Theodore, a boy who "is found" by gluttony, a grimoire from the seven sins (but not every... more>> one of them are grimoires, and there are no Virtues series). With it, he can finally succeeds in using some simple spells.

The story then goes on about him reading, acquiring artifacts, facing enemies that threaten the kingdom (he is a loyal subject and the administrative people are nice). He meets other species, becomes politically important and even marries.

Well, it's an amazing story with an excellent, fulfilling and thorough ending. It compared to "Everyone else is a returnee", which had the best ending of all novels for me. <<less

I will just say that almost all of the novels from Korea (South Korea) is a good read for me but I stay away from the racist KR novels so my reading list is limited to only good KR novels.

This novel has relatable and reasonable MC. Cheat like ability but not strong from the start. Interesting way of story telling and everything else seems oaky for me at least. Try this if you run out of good Fantasy/Magic and swords novel to read.

First half of the novel: 5 stars.

Has fantastic character and world development. The plot is interesting and is more than just "fight enemy, power up, repeat." All of the characters have depth to them. There are detailed explanations for most things, and there is always a reason for the main character doing something.
----

Second half: 3 stars.

Its is blatantly obvious that the author started to rush things after ~chapter 250. All of the down time and detailed plot developments that existed during the first half of the novel are pretty... more>> much thrown out the window in exchange for extreme power creep and an endless cycle of boss fights. The detailed explanations of the world go away. The sense of tension and struggle that the main character had to endure and overcome at the start stop. The majority of the side characters that held significant roles during the first half are quite literally never mentioned once during the second half. Characters in the central circle become mindless 'yes-men'; all of the color and taste that their personality once had are completely thrown out of the window.

That is not to say that it is not worth the read. The boss fights still maintain most of their integrity, however the tension that existed at the beginning goes away due to the aforementioned power creep. <<less

The characters in this story suck. The struggles, relationships, and personalities are all terribly one dimensional. I've read my share of bad writing that I've forced myself to finish. I just couldn't do it with this one. It was just so devoid of descriptive writing that I couldn't pay attention. 2 stars because it convinced me to give up on stories sooner if they're this bad.

The beginning of reading this novel was so interesting and somewhat a new concept for me. It started out very promising although having 400chapters and I was very intrigued as first with grimoires and this type of weak to strong MC.

I find it quite weird that spending so long in school and even repeating yrs that after he finally graduates he doesn't meet up with anyone at all from his school days, is that really the top magic school? Clearly those persons didn't make anything out of there life after... more>> graduating.

Since c250 give or take I started losing major interest since MC is mainly depending on gluttony and is pwering up extremely quickly which sometimes is nonsensical. If it's not one thing then it's another, MC is literally all over the place so at this point I'm mainly trying to finish this novel. <<less

This one was refreshing to read after reading a few Chinese xianxia and cultivation novels. At least something actually happens and it has its conflicts and ups and downs.

Although it gets a little long-winded because it's 400 LONG chapters, I found it relatively more realistic compared to other novels. Well, the reality is typically mundane so...

I liked reading about Theodore as he explores Gluttony's powers and also as he interacts with the authors of the books he eats. Many of those people sure have such "unique" personalities. The characters were... more>> also well-thought-out, in that even the minor characters are also given some screen time and are not just treated as simple cannon fodders that were hastily put into the novel and made to get killed. They have their own personalities and for me, this made the reading experience more enjoyable, especially the interactions between characters. <<less

This book is amazing. The ending is a tiny bit rushed, but please don't let that put you off. This book is f*cking fantastic.

Again, I loved this novel. I usually have trouble sympathizing with characters in a book, but some of the cast really felt like real people.
Spoiler

Especially the ancient magicians that Theo would engage with.

Adventure to different parts of the world, no major focus on harem bullshit, and most importantly in my opinion: lot's of stuff happens! Most fantasy novels seem to be Tolkien-copy-paste or political thriller/drama but in medieval times and sometimes magic. People just talk and talk and nothing happens. This is not like that! =D

This is a true epic fantasy novel rife with magic and immersive character drama.

I'm not really satisfied with the ending. Or the decisions he made prior to it. ... more>>
Spoiler

Instead of 100% saving your family and fleeing he risks the life of his wives and unborn child for a ridiculous and nonexistent chance (from his point of view). Just because he doesn't want to be a looser in front of his child? I think it's better to be a "looser" than dead. Plus it's ridiculous to call yourself that going against something you can't beat.

And don't get me started on how Veronica survived Theos soul being destroyed... Just because of a dragons vitality... She's only a 1/4, and... It's just crap.

I don't mind the let's help him just because ending from Simon. But it is plot armor in the end. The would be dead a f*ck otherwise and so would his family. Try telling you're a looser to a dead kid.

A fantastic read. The novel has a very clear premise and you can generally tell where it's heading. There's no mystery to the plot twists because they introduce McGuffins each arc. Each arc has its crests and troughs so you'll notice very clear changes in the pacing of the story if you're binging the novel. The main character is neither incredibly smart nor incredibly s*upid so there weren't actually that many points to criticize his actions as they all had clear intent behind them. This isn't a story to get... more>> fanatically crazy about but it has a great start and gives a satisfying end so I'm rating it 5/5.

Props to the translator for finishing yet another novel. <<less

Sub-par world building and character development. The supposed genius MC makes terrible decisions all the time and does not use his cheat (Grimoire) to the full extent of its possibilities. The characters are unlikable and there is no consistency.

☆☆☆ - 3.3
Pro's -
Backstories - Myth's around magic, demons, gods, etc. are all connected in this world.
Artwork - has been drawn and helps you visualize a little better
Mildly entertaining

Cons-
1. Poor writing - MC manages to keep a semi-low profile for 5 years at academy... but AS SOON as he becomes normal/gets a little talent, all of a sudden every teacher decides to challenge him JUST BECAUSE TEACHERS HAVE NOTHING TO DO BUT BULLY?? -Students as well... comon!?

2. As soon as he gets this power, everything... more>> in his life becomes x1000 times more dangerous...a normal life to danger+5000 in a matter of months. Walking back to his hometown even becomes a death sentence now. Elves who've lived for hundreds of years are suddenly threatened and only the MC can save them... Within a year of the MC getting his power, the world would have perished without the MC being conventiely in the right place at the right time. In that case, how did regular people even live before the MC existed... poor writing. Many more examples. Anyways, basic stories with any depth, don't just thrust the MC into fights/danger before at least establishing a solid world first right?

3. MC's ALWAYS manages to show up at JUST the perfect moment.
Spoiler

For blind faith readers -proof = hometown/parents, Girl Lee Seoul, the bibliophile, the Elves, ... etc.

[collapse]

4. A few minor plot holes such as, A war that has been going on for +100 years... BUT NO ONE questions why the enemy always stops right before victory... or 'why' the war continues for so long. If you were a supremely powerful person capable of affecting countries, at some point you might ask yourself "why?" about simple things concerning your environment... Especially, when you can change the state of things. Nope, not here. Character depth negative 2.

5. Character depth - women fall head-over-heels for the MC just because he's capable and young. -_-* However, I do like the artwork for the female characters - haha. But it's rather annoying still. Also, the MC does have a hero complex, as pointed out by another reviewer - the pirate arc

If you got nothing better to do. It's something to read. <<less

This novel has lots of parts where the author just justifies the MC's action with some logic then proceed to slander stereotypical villain A for doing similar things. Also a lot of the political aspect of the novel seems like WW2 propaganda, "this powerful person is amazing but he's nothing compared to us in the north. Harharharharharhar". Just replace the countries sides with the country it's supposed to portray.

Spoiler

like Lairon is Britain, Andras is USA, Austen is the middle east.

Started off interesting, but is getting a bit repetitive. Follows a basic MC adventuring about finding good fortune and getting into battles pattern.

The battles tend to be a back and forth, followed by the MC mu*dering the enemy in a single move. That might actually be realistic in a world where people can level castles with their power, but you more-or-less know how MC is going to win based on last good fortune.

Magic need something to learn. Not by a whisper or a words but good all education to our brain and that's to the books!

I'm seriously disappointed with this all low ratings this faggots had in mind to this superb KR novel. Damaging such a beautiful image to this story. Even in just early chapters all things are great.

For it all it begins with MC being weak and rising from the top but even with that there are powerful individuals that are stronger than him even with a cheat.

In a world... more>> astounded with a great past and in the current situation the continuous development and also the changing tides in the view of mysteries that the past have affected the very essence of the world.

Magic that is not easy to obtain and pass on the next stage as all Magicians have halted in a 'Wall'. But that is not all magic in this story has. When there's Magic to begin with being controlled by Magicians, other races and monsters there's also beside that known as Aura. Mastery over it by Sword Masters the archenemy of Magicians.

Take a breath in where our protagonist broaden his view upon mysteries and the world! <<less

Good

-World setting Gluttony, Books, Magic, Swords, Zero to Hero the whole shabang.

Bad

... more>> -Let's get this out of the way...... it's a Harem so you get the whole "Why is your face all red?"

A) Fever

B) Motion Sickness

C) Heat stroke

D) All of the above and not love

Must be D) can't possibly be anything else.

-Dam it, though one of the reasons I read is because it's a harem. I want a cat fight. A bit of drama. A strip of unbreakable sandpaper to strangle the golden finger MC. DAM IT!

*Goes to a unknown corner of space to bang/melt/burn head againt a sun*

I don't know man 4/5 for now unless something absurd happens e.x The MC marries all of them or the story goes on with nothing really happening.

Anyways Gluttony is the one true Waifu and we all know it so let's just kill off every vaguely female character! If that 180° heel turn happens I will rate 9.5/5 stars. <<less

This is definitely one of the best Korean novels I've read! It keeps the reader's attention taught and yet somehow also manages to keep a relaxed pace. It even does so with in depth character and world building integrated extremely well in between (and sometimes even during) the action. I would highly recommend reading this book to at least the 30-40th chapter before forming an opinion on whether you want to continue reading it or not. It'll most definitely not disappoint! :)

Not much to say. MC is not a jerk that's good, or a wimp; but nothing about him as a character seemed interesting. His cheat (there is always a cheat) is a magic book that eats other magic books, that increases his stats and knowledge; he is not OP that's good, but reading about a guy looking for stuff to feed his book is boring. Its not bad though so I give it 3.

It's a pretty good novel for me. Granted it's in the early stages, but I read the current chapters in one sitting and I didn't get bored.. In fact, it had me craving for more. I find the MC quite likeable actually with his set of worries and circumstances that makes me root for him, but yeah, it's still in the early stages so I can't say much as we have yet to peel the layers of the MC and other characters' personality. All I can say, give it a... more>> chance. It might surprise you. <<less
