It starts out great, then drops off a bit. It's still pretty good by the end of the main story, and then the beginning of the after story is rather enjoyable... but after the initial epilogue-like after story, I got bored and dropped it. The overall writing quality is pretty bad, but the main story and most of the characters are entertaining enough that despite knowing you're reading tr*sh you end up loving it. The problem with the after story (at least for me) was that without the badass power... more>> fantasy MC being the focus, the overall shoddy writing quality goes through and just wasn't worth reading anymore. I'd recommend reading the main story and a little bit of epilogue, and then stopping while it's still entertaining. The MC also uses guns, which I personally really dislike for fantasy stories, but it's entertaining enough to make up for it <<less

Vol 1 was fantastic. I loved the moment Hajime broke and went insane. And the tension was well worth it. We see his progress and growth.

But good things arent meant to last. From vol 2 it directly goes down into average category. The same old tropes. Atleast the dungeons were interesting. But I didn't like how the harem situation played out. Could have been so much better.

Honestly vol2 onwards it's jyst barely 3 stars. That too only cause of the action. And the weapons.

The afterstory itself is hilarious though. Afterstory... more>> gets 3.5.

Anyways read it. At leat vol 1. Cause the anime version is shit.

Tbh I like this novel but I gotta be honest and point out the bad things too. <<less

I started this novel because of how famous it was and after reading the first volume I was quite interested but as I continued reading it got worse and worse, I think the only good thing I read about after the first volume was:

Spoiler

the fight with noito

[collapse]

To be honest the second dungeon was decent but from there on it's more like hajime had no problem doing anything since he prepared everything beforehand (which is pretty tr*shy considering that he takes things out that are never talked about just because he can), the fights where he is at a disadvantage are pretty forced and just to give an example of this I will mention:

Spoiler

in his first encounter freed and his dragon almost killed him in one blow but in his second encounter it is yue who alone kills freed and a group of several of those dragons.

[collapse]

or

Spoiler

there is a part where their followers fight with what seems like angels sent by some god to kill them which among other things triple their stats but still hold out and not only that but in the middle of the fight they get all power ups that make them double the state of the guys who attacked them and that's why they killed almost all of them in one blow (which makes no sense considering that those guys were tripling their stats and were fighting for a while)

[collapse]

Anyway, I just don't recommend it. <<less

The protagonist simply wants to go back to the real world because yes, because the girls in the harem fall in love with him because yes.
The characters want to spare enemies who try to assassinate them because yes

Hypocritical, bad. Two-dimensional.

Quarantine gave me a chance to see if some mainstream LN are really great. And this one isn't my jam.

The story follow Hajime, a boy got isekai-ed with the whole class. Instead of having some cool power, this boy got powet to create. Follow Hajime as he learn how to optimize his power, create things that wasn't supposed to be understood by a highschool boy just because and find his way to return.

And here are why I don't recommend this.

  1. MC is top tier normal boy that lack a lot to be called a good protagonist. The fighting scenes are neither great or easy to follow. Maybe Vietnamese translation can't express the greatness, maybe my English is terrible, idk. And what the point of adding more and more girls to the harem if you only choose one for nearly 160 chapters? Why not at least solve this problem but bam, a time skip to end the canon. Overall: Not a typical one, but lack too many things, especially for romance and harem tag.
  2. The story drags too long for some after chapter, like a whole series longer. Even after 25+ volume of DxD and grinding Bleach, Naruto and One piece, this still bugs me.
  3. The logic behind many creations make no sense. Sure, there is magic and stuff, but there too many holes to make fighting scenes look good. And why does it always "but wait, there's more"?
I manage to finish canon and drop after 5 sentences in the second after chapter. If I continue, I might rate this same score with Hand Shaker, which is a shame because I somehow enjoy it.

This novel... Not gonna lie, it isn't good, if you want to read something good don't read it, but still, I can't say it wasn't funny since it was really funny, it's your isekai with OP MC, harem and a lot of cringe, but really accentuated. But yeah this is a novel that you will read to laugh, if you want a more grounded isekai this isn't it.

This is a overwhelmingly average novel for its genre. An its isekai so that doesn't particularly say much though. However, it is no where near as bad as people say.

Minor story inconsistencies. For example, Yue chants on several occassions which would be fine if she was pretending to chant like the first time. The reason this is a inconsistency is because Yue has the power to directly manipulate magic like a monster. In otherwords a chantless mage.

An almost every action the MC takes contradicts his supposed ideology. An the novel... more>> tries to twist it as a "ahha, but he is getting something out of it. You see he planned on using the outcome to his benefit" which would be fine if that was shown... before he took said action. <<less

The start is good but it slowly descends into a shitfest also something worth mentioning is towards the later chapters the amount of words in each chapter increases exponentially which makes it a drag to read.

The romance is there and it's not bad (mostly).

However the plot or story just goes all over the place, there's an insane amount of plot-twists and somethings become illogical like for example; MC literally pulling a death sun ray out of nowhere sure it was cool but it was never mentioned beforehand considering whenever the... more>> MC invented something new it would be mentioned before he actually used it but not this one. So there's that.

I would not recommend reading it, the ending is satisfactory in my opinon but the chapters after like 110 become so heavy and annoying to read frankly i'd say it's a waste of time. There's a few pointless arcs in my opinion other than justifying him going to a labirynth like the purification of the oasis arc or whatever.

Only reasion to read it is for Tio (the dragon) that character is hilarious other than that it's not worth it.

Could've been good but something that I hate about it too is how the MC becomes incredibly soft overtime due to his 2 harem girls from his former world like honestly, Shia and Yue literally don't care if he kills people he should kill but the other 2 girls are like "No plz don't kill him because I say so" while I might have extremely overexaggerated that, it was really annoying and dreadful reading some parts due to the MC not killing his enemy because of harem interference.

I personally dislike harem but I started reading this without knowing it was harem (friend recommendation for cold-blooded mc) when harem started happening I did not mind. Until harem started influencing the mc's behaviour that's awful.

Honestly you shouldn't read this, the anime is coming it's extremely likely that all the shitfest and plot problems will be fixed so might as well wait for it to complete airing and watch the anime instead. <<less

I'm giving it 3 stars because story is interesting enough, but author indulges in edginess too much. I understand edgy characters, I have nothing against them, but when entire population of the world is emotionally dumbed down emotionally, just to make protagonist look "cool" with his inconsiderate jackassery, and not even narrator can look at him without the undeserved praise, it becomes clear that author has no self awareness. All I need is for character to be called out properly be somebody at least once in a while, but despite... more>> him being the source of all edginess, the only moments of "calling out", are when he himself realizes how he messed up. There should be at least one character that has a working common sense, or the whole story becomes unfunny comedy. There is also a way in abandoning common sense intentionally, like in Dungeon Seaker (manga at least, I haven't read novel yet), where all characters are grotesque, allowing MC for excess edginess that is justified. Third way is to commit to being evil or chaotic neutral, instead of trying to pull this weird 'noble as*hole good'.

I'm still interested in following manga though, since without narration this lack of self awareness isn't so abundantly clear.

However if you like really edgy stories then you should be probably quite capable of ignoring that flaw. <<less

well to sum this up :

volume 1: you will see the MC change from a shy kid with pitiful skills to a gunslinger devouring his way through the dungeon.

volume 2: girls x 2 (you can stop here)

... more>> volume 3: girls x 3 (please stop)

volume 4: there is a picture of another girl on the cover so you know what to expect

volume 5: whats that on the cover? Its another harem member ladies and gentlemen

I was really hooked on this novel in the first volume not only because the change in the MC but also

Spoiler

when he uncovered the truth about the game that the gods of that world are playing and proclaimed that no god can stand in his way

[collapse]

That shows that this novel is different from the generic reincarnated novels and has a bigger story behind it rather than just beating the demon king and happy ever after. I ignored the meeting with the first girl since I really want her to have some pivotal role in the story. I even gave the second girl a pass and thought that she was gonna be a short lived guide or a sacrifice or something.

But then a harem starts to form with all the conventional tropes. At that point the author was saying "Sike! That's the wrong number!" and proceeded to slap the readers face by force-feeding them a harem.

Had this novel stayed true to the first volume then I would give it a 4/5 and will get hyped for the anime but sadly there are other noteworthy novels better than this one.

tl;dr: read first chapter, don't touch the others

If you want a novel that has a twist on the reincarnation trope and gives you a new look at the reincarnation process then I would recommend the works by Andur at Armaell's Library. (Note that its for mature r18 readers only) <<less

This novel is actually a rather interesting read. The first arc is just mainly the MC's character's development.

[collapse]
, he doesn't mind much about other people, unless they are useful. He will only be ruthless to those who harm his loved ones.

The only offsetting beat is how dark the first arc is. The others are mostly comedy, with a tinge of seriousness, while having harem and romance blossom. It can be considered a rom-com harem in this sense. The author does focus on the harem tag quite a bit.

He is not someone who forgets generosity, and kindness.
Spoiler

He even rushed down the dungeon to save Shirasaki. After all the things that Shirasaki has done for him. The other classmates saved were just 'might as well, they were also with her, so I can't leave them alone.'

[collapse]

Do note that, he's rather of a loner, and has classmates showing jealousy because of how 'the most popular girl' talks to him, and has an interest in him.

For the harem moments, he's not dense, in fact. He knows when someone is interested in him. He has a habit of leaving things as they are, only dealing with them when 'the time comes.'

The harem members all have rather interesting personalities. One thing's for sure: They are not weak. In fact, they can be considered bugs since they are really strong towards the end. The characters grow with the MC.

The classmates do not realize how much exactly the MC had to went through in the first arc, to make it out of that place of despair. Although it was let known to a certain feel, he doesn't boast or talk about that moment. It's kept within his memories

This novel in overall, has a MC that's ruthless to enemies who stops him from reaching his goal, all the while showing feelings in his own way towards his loved ones. This MC is not about revenge, or getting stronger. He does things the way he wants, and it works out in the end. I recommend this novel for people who enjoy dark-character development for the MC, while enjoying comedy relief. <<less

Unfortunately there were no more chapters after 16 so I was forced to stop reading. But the little I read wasn't very good. The beginning was slow, extremely slow and not very fun to read, once you get in the story you are waiting for him to get betrayed (because why else would you read this story) and its feels like it just takes way too long. The characters are unrealistically mean of course like every other one of these types of stories.

Spoiler

and once he betrayed and falls down he loses his arm and then finds a magic rock to heal him. Which isn't too bad what I have a problem with is that they completely disregard the missing arm entirely. Did he regrow his arm and I missed it?! According to another reviewer he riding a motorcycle out of the dungeon and shooting his rail guns at the same time? How when he only has one arm?!

[collapse]

Its not complete garbage and could be enjoyable to someone who isn't taking this story very seriously but to me personally, I found the inconsistencies too much to handle. Which is why I give this story a 2.5 <<less

A decent read but not that phenomenal

It is a series that constantly changes its tone frequently so if you think it would be a dark light novel at first then prepare to be disappointed since it is not as dark as it makes you believe from the start however it is still an enjoyable one if you just want to pass your time and enjoy the authors creative imagination or vision of his fantasy world since one thing that makes me enjoy this read is the highly thought out descriptions... more>> of the environment and the lore. <<less

Let me start by saying,

The beginning of the novel is great.

It does have your typical cliches with the weak willed-Protagonist and the supposedly oblivious and equally popular female. But it manages to make the first 10 chapters enjoyable to read.

... more>> The transformation from a weak, typical jp protag was entertaining and kept (me) reading while holding my breath.

BUT that is simply the start.

The problems occur after the transformation. After our protagonist becomes a badass. Unfortunately our protag becomes less badass due to his new character traits. This goes in hand with the characters that only serve to emphasize the traits that I will eventually name.

Read this novel at your own discretion if you cannot stand

  • Poorly written edgy-teen Anti-Hero.
  • Side characters that will constantly sing praise of said Anti-Hero.
  • Dropped plot lines.
  • Relationships that are meant to be seen as a harem, but are really just girls blindly throwing themselves at protag.
I cannot recommend this to others past the start of the novel.

I would give it a 2.5 out of 5. <<less

High water mark in the first dungeon and it never reaches that point again. After they leave the dungeon the author seems to have written the protagonist and first girl as different characters as their personalities are completely different. The tone of the novel becomes like a Looney Tunes skit with the rabbit girl that is introduced right after they leave the first dungeon being launched into the air and landing on her face and popping back up like a cartoon. I haven't finished it but I think I got... more>> to...

Okay, so I do have to agree with some people (or most) on the fact that it didn't really boost with the potential it showed in the first volume. However, although it didn't reach it I still think its a pretty good read. But if you don't like it, you can always daydream about how you think the story should go after reading the first volume that is!

Really worth a try,

Setting is very good, imo after a couple of arks it becomes something of a "gag manga" and I lost interest in how the story was being conveyed.

But even if I dropped it I liked the couple of arks I read, specially the first ark.

Epic emotional start, a nice and week MC, turned into a OP and badass one, but then suddenly turned into a cruel disgusting bastard for no reason what's worse is I think the authors thinks this is funny, so I think he would continues this way, he rather sight-see someones dies than moves merely his finger to save him, yes merely his finger as he has a powerful magic that works by finger (you will see if you read) he doesn't have any risk nor aftermath to fear but with... more>> the sick excuse that someone can't just save everyone in need, what the hell I'm I supposed to applauded or to be impressed, what's more it's awfully contradictory, at start when he was in his worst state of anti-humanity (or rather close) he risked his life for a stranger, how should I feel about this change, it's like someones return your sincere smile out of the blue with slap or spit in the face. I'm really deeply disappointed.

Edit:

I recovered some breaths after a long time for another dive, but really there is really nothing, the MC became a killing machine witch is the good part, but with a meaningless harsh personality that isn't funny as the author might think, it's disgusting and unjustified, I don't think what happened to him justify his awful new personality, and if it did, than he is unworthy of being an MC for me at least. <<less

This novel start good. The content I write from now maybe spoil some. It lost some of the hard point and some concept change entirely. I can't decide it whether good or bad. Main character's goal is clear but sub character still vague. There is some factor that isn't know, seemingly it can pop-up anytime. In the next chapter main character harem start to sweet more and more. I really sympathetic about the sub character, he first show in very good but then he seem start to inferior in every... more>> way. Certainly I don't feel any jealous or cheer any character. I want to know the story and what will they decide, but the pink pink scene often show up and become the focus in story. I see the loop, then another loop, and then another loop with addition conditional again. This is annoying not only character in story but also me too. My opinion is this novel's structure is good indeed, but the subject the writer write is not to the edge, I mean he can play little more about the subject or add something in about explaining that can make this novel better. I have finished reading 12 chapter. May be in the next volume, content can be some change. I look forward to the next chapter. <<less
