Afraid of letting more people get killed by Hifumi, the Princess–who is the only one to managed to keep her sanity act rationally–let him go free. Thus started Hifumi’s fun life of traveling the world, and unrestrainedly killing any who attempt to get in his way.

Usually, I do not have a problem whether MC is evil or good as long as it fits well in a story but not here. The story is about a strong guy who after being summoned in different world wants to use his martial arts and kill people. I would understand somewhat if MC killed people or did some other evil stuff to achieve his goals, but his goal itself is just to kill and mu*der, nothing more. MC is no different from psychopaths and maniac mu*derers.

Some reviewer basically... more>> wrote that since war helps humans develop faster so it's not a bad thing (maybe hi*ler is a saint with that dumb logic). MC to me is like a martial artist hi*ler without racism... if you like that you should read it. <<less

The protagonist is a master martial artist and a psychopath, he kills anyone that opposes him and his goal is making the world enter into something like the Sengoku period with everyone fighting each other.

In later chapters he gets his own territory (that ends up like a fortress thanks to s*ave dwarves), controls the kingdom as he likes and is running around spreading chaos with his army. The side characters are fun, notable ones are a princess, a mage and an airhead, the princess developed into quite the character, the... more>> mage was brainwashed into a yandere and the airhead is the best general ever. No serious love interest so far, mage is the only one trying to compete, princess despises him from the royal capital (a little brainwashed though), and airhead is airhead. Also, I'm not sure what happened, but around chapter 30? The writing style REALLY improved, it might've been the author getting some sort of editor or the main translator being changed, anyways, before it was as if a middle schooler was writing it and I was about to drop it. So, if you're thinking the writing is bad, cope with it for a while to be pleasantly surprised. <<less

Kinda lame. Brutal killer MC who repressed his nature in Japan so he wouldn't go to jail. Ends up in a fantasy world and just kills. At first, it seemed he had reason. I killed because you kidnapped and were using me. Later you find out he was a psychopath who likes to kill. How can I trick people into attacking me so I can kill them. The fantasy world is built on the premis that humans lack the desire to fight each other. Humans mainly fight other races, there... more>> is a minuscule amount of wars between humans, so the MC comes in and brings our worlds knowledge of warfare to this seemingly peaceful world. He becomes untouchable with this knowledge and just kills friends or foe. It doesn't matter as long as he gets to kill. Which means there's no real story needed, no plot, no good character development, or any character smarter than the MC. It just has something for the MC to kill and the over powered method the MC kills it. <<less

I don't really get how everyone in the other world knows nothing about warfare and fighting. There are multiple kingdoms that obviously was founded and hold territories from one another but somehow are incompetent at warfare and constantly get their asses kicked by a guy who's not a soldier, has no experience commanding armies, and has no fighting experience outside a dojo environment. Goodbye suspension of disbelief. The MC is a charmless psychopath, everyone except him holds the idiot ball, chapters were named after songs most of which do suck...... more>> Seriously though, its not like he's using a very different paradigm in fighting compared to people of medieval period so I don't get why he's too successful (aside from his dumb as rocks enemies) <<less

Warning, if you do not like slow character development, then do not read this. Honestly this series is pretty darn good. There have been alot of complaints about some stuff and I would like to point out the flaws in some of the accusations.

1- Regarding Formations during war.... it is a fact that the 'single file line' into battle was used up to the 1800s. in fact I do believe that the British was still implementing this during WW1. This story is set during the 'mid-evil' (5th-15th century) Europe.....I... more>> can say more about this topic, but I will stop here and just say that the argument about war during this time is pretty accurate.
2- Regarding MC wanting to fight stronger people... if you are a martial artist, then you would know that you train to be the best. Everyone wants to find out if they are the best at what they do. Most martial arts where created during periods of war and turmoil. To defend, to protect, or to kill. Although the origin of martial arts may be found gruesome and disgusting to some people... remember that you dont live in an era in which your house may belong to another country the next day or that bandits are breaking into your house raping your wife, daughter, mother, or just killing everyone cause you just gave them a look they didnt like.
3-MC skill VS knights...i believe this story is set some time in the early mid-evil age (5th-15th century). Following this logic, the knights only have a good 500 years of history of combat to go by to train and honed their skills. This is limited to their region or kingdom they belong to. (Assuming their country is that old, cause America isnt even 300 years old) Now you have an MC that comes from the modern world (20th century). As stated in the first chapter he has mastered a sht ton of martial arts and knows the history of martial arts. MC has a 1500 year of experience in martial arts passed on from one generation to the next. Honed and perfected as each generation goes by. Now when you compare the MC and his skills to Knights of a kingdom which has yet to develop any techniques, its pretty obvious as to why the MC is so 'OP'.
4-Politics.... just gonna go ahead and say if you dont like it. dont read this. It is obvious as f*ck that if there are multiple countries then their will be politics. Especial so in a world filled with monarchies. If you dont know what monarchy is... to put it blunt a country ruled by a king or queen......
5-MC's goal of war everywhere..... What can I say he already explained himself. War is the mother of innovations. Regardless of your opinion this is a fact. Tactics, weapons, political reforms, medicine, transportation, jobs, ways to preserve food, and so much more are created and innovated. If you do not believe me...*face palm* go back to high school and this time pay attention to history class. while your at it, hop on google and search innovations during WWII.)
6-Character Development.... for the MC is a very slow character development. But the story isnt about him as far as this subject goes. Its about everyone he meets. Let me tell you its a sht tone of development. From the moment he meets the princess, from the moment he saves the two s*aves, from the moment he gets his own territory, to the moment he spares an enemy knight cause that knight knew he wouldn't be able to kill MC.

Over all this series is one hell of a series its one of my favorites. For those who do not like a slow development or do not like the idea of causing war on purpose do not read this series. <<less

It was never very good to begin with but as it progressed the story just got more and more boring when it should have been the other way round. The main problem with the story was that most of it was written from the perspective of irrelevant side characters who had almost nothing to do with the story. As the story goes on the MC goes from having 50% of the story to less than 5%, to the extent where the story isn't even about him anymore, just about the... more>> thoughts and adventures of random soldiers and politicians and their encounters and schemes which have little to do with the MC. By chapter 50 the amount of boring irrelevant politics mounted up so much that I just couldn't bear it anymore. Endless amounts of irrelevant politicians scheming this and that and then they get killed by the MC at the end for going against him and his plan of essentially destroying the world so that he can have more fun killing people. >How can I trick people into attacking me so I can kill them.

This exactly sums up the entirety of the MC's motivations. He doesn't care about anyone just wants to kill people for the thrill of killing. To make that more fun he spares his enemies and makes them stronger so he can kill stronger opponents.
MC constantly says "I'm not invincible, I can die at any time" but in reality it's the exact opposite. In one scene he goes against 100 trained soldiers (who are wearing armor) with just a chain sickle and a spear or whatever Japanese weapon it was and kills them with just martial arts. He walks up to random people and just kills them if they displease him in any way (e.g by not submitting to his ridiculous demands). He's like one of those villains from a terrible shounen manga. <<less

If this were DnD, then the MC (Hifumi) would be aligned at "Chaotic Evil" - if you like baseless killing/destruction then this is the novel for you.

A little bit more depth would have me say that this is extremely lazy writing. The author changes the MC's personality to be more and more brutal. At chapter 72 the MC is a gigantic douche for no reason other then he shall be entertained..

This doesn't factor into the low rating, but there is also the usual BS about how great katanas and japanese... more>> martial arts are.. <<less

Needless mu*der. That's the whole point of this series, nothing else, everybody will be killed later by the MC just for petty reason, then forgotten soon.

Spoiler

Even the ending is noncommittal, that the author resuming it on a hundred years timeskip gaiden series with the same MC just to start another whole killing festival, with new characters to kill. Hillariously they releasing the seal for the supposed "hero" so they can be killed again, that world never learns.

Why I rated 5 stars.

Here are my points and reasons. May NOT be yours. But it may help you decide.

  1. If you HATE the following characters from Marvel and DC then you will HATE the MC:
    1. Punisher from Marvel
    2. Deadpool from Marvel
    3. Joker from DC
    4. Harlequin from DC
    5. Cobblepot – The Penguin from DC
    6. Deathstroke from DC
      1. If you LOVED or like those types of anti-heroes and villains you MAY like our MC.
    7. If you LOVED the character Kenpachi Zaraki of Bleach, look him up if you don’t remember. And if you can imagine if Bleach was written around him instead of Kurosaki Ichigo, then you MAY love this MC. If you HATED or didn’t like Kenpachi, then you should probably avoid this story.
    8. If you thought how villainous and cool Breaking Bad tv show main character was. Then you would probably like this story. If you HATED or don’t like stories like Breaking Bad, and their MC. Then you may want to avoid this story.
Hopefully this will help you all decide. I’m just on chapter 60. So I haven’t read it all yet. But... it’s good enough for me. I’ll follow that bloody road to the end.

Not certain what I was expecting. It began as the synopsis said - killer in modern times that moves to another world. He gets s*aves. Corrupts them. Then things go to shit.
His "fights" can be condensed into 2 paragraphs for every one. It goes something like
1. Encounter
2. They try to stab him
3. He miraculously counters and kills everyone with ease.

Eventually degrades into him being a politician with a penchant for mu*der. You know, that villain in every other story that the author tries to make into... more>> an antagonist but is really just a B-rated Hollywood bad guy, if more hands on. <<less

Edgy chuunibyou: The Novel.

I'll keep this short. The MC is a mad dog who lashes out at everything for the tiniest reasons. He is an evil scumbag, and that would be perfectly fine if the author didn't try to give him have the moral high ground too. Commit to having a villain protagonist, FFS, don't try to say "everything he does is actually okay because blah blah blah". That is the biggest flaw of this story and limits so much of what it could be.

The MC is both heartless and ruthless, unlike most wuxia/xianxia MC's where they are mostly ruthless. I disliked the MC at first because he killed someone after receiving a gift from him. Later, it seems the author changed that aspect of the MC, and only killed those that got in his way, which is better then returning kindness with enmity. The MC is a powerful sword user, but he is using knowledge of his modern day world, to start building his own kingdom. He trains people in fighting, educates as... more>> far as giving exams to some, and has weapons and railways built. I would highly recommend this, unless you are a self-righteous douche.

Update: As the story continues, it has become rinse, and repeat of the same fighting and killing. There as been no plot, no tension, and not once has the MC dealt with a problem he cannot solve immediately. <<less

Messy story about a summoned hero who turned out to be a serial killer. His entire purpose in life is to mu*der, and in a world with boring, onesided characters with no redeeming qualities, he embarks on a journey to slaughter everyone. Constant contradictions in characters and lack of a driving plot killed this for me, since it feels more like some repressed urges the author writes about instead of a story.

The first dozen chapters are pretty good, it is refreshing to not read a beta MC story. However lately the chapters have been devolving into an edgy and incomprehensible mess. Every chapter seems to be focused on the main character massacring villager A/B. While the few side characters exist just to have toddler level intelligence just so the author can make his main character seem to be a genius in comparison. If you want to read a novel that has a well developed world, side characters, plot, or slice of... more>> life then don't read this.

tl;dr If you want to read how the main character kills random person with one slice of his sword every chapter 50 times then this is for you <<less

Personally, I think being needlessly antagonistic is just as bad as being needlessly nice.

What to make of this novel? I can’t say it’s a good piece of writing. But I can derive my enjoyment from some mindless killing without caring about the story and characters. It is, after all, something fresh from all the niceties that infect novels. Just proceed while keeping in mind that MC is just a psychopath with some screw loose and you’ll be good. I was abit bumped out because the author tried to justify... more>> the MC action and attempted making him out to be a cold-hearted intellectual while in fact he’s just a rabid dog. <<less

This novel is one of my favorites! There are quite a few novels out there with anitheros, but to me the majority of those characters just don't feel as genuine as Hifumi dose. The novel itself spends a decent amount of time on creating a background for the story to take place in, which isn't necessarily a bad thing if its done right, and I believe this novel dose it. If you enjoy antihero protagonists that give this novel a whirl, but try to get up to chapter 40 before... more>> you drop it. <<less

Another Light Novel with summoned Hero. Oh wait, not hero, but a villain. Yes, you heard me right, it is a summoned antihero-protagonist MC just as mention in the tag. So, if you want to read a novel about triumphant over-powered hero from parallel world, just give up, it's not a novel for you.

This novel has unique story, as the MC has only goal to create situation convenient for him, which mean a situation where he can spill as many as blood as he can, yes, he is bloodthirsty MC.... more>> Not for the sake of revenge or anything, just for his pleasure. Interesting, right? <<less

The start was impressive but later on it got boring real fast

The MC in this light novel is a self driven mu*der maniac and entertains the idea of taking another persons life. When I started reading this I thought to myself 'wow what a really interesting mc' however after a few chapters later 'this guy is really bland'. MC is really one dimensional, after his slaughtering so many people you throughout the story you can actually feel numb from killings and tell yourself 'why is this so boring?'. As the... more>> MC straight up GARY STU character where he could do no wrong and his approach to making a world of violence makes no sense too (entirely the author faults).

Holy...

I don't know where to start, the plot unfolds in a complete beautiful manner, characters are magnificent (MC?, Origa?), not to mention that each chapter is TITLED WITH A SONG NAME! Also what I like about this author is how he almost never repeats what he has written before, and that the characters seem to follow a realistic train of thoughts of a human, even if that human is a psycho, I mean I swear at one moment I thought of something and the character just said it afterwards:

“Hasn’t that girl somehow gradually turned more scary from before?” (Sabnak)

“Shh! Be quiet!” (Midas)

Now going back to the MC, how Original and refreshing is that? Although I like to read other novel of the same genre/tags (transferred to another world/ to game / reincarnated), and liked how everyone differs in their plots, this one completely satisfies me while reading it.

Last note will be how there is minimum fillers, and minimum fillers, I didn't skip even one line of each chapters, as my first review to write on this site, This is my top recommendation to anyone one who like this genre/tags like I do. <<less

Welcome children to the wondrous adventures of the mu*der HOBO

He's a mu*derer.

He's a hobo.

... more>> He's... your run of the mill first time playing Dungeons and Dragons player.

"There is this intricate set piece of mystery and dread!"

"I roll to sneak attack!"

Goddamit Stuart! this is the third time!!!... FINE!, I'll plead to your animalistic urges! teenage boy.

"A spy of the country who shows no ill will and is unarmed, with big tits, dressed as a prostitute asks you to help!"

"I roll to sense presence, nat 20! plus my dex modifier I have to have seen something!"

JESUS CHRIST STUART! STOP DERAILING THE SETTING!!!!... how am I gonna bring this guy back to the campaign I spent days writing!?!?

He's the worst player to have in your campaign... He's the most generic of generic characters, there is a mystery? he doesn't give a F about it, he just wants to kill kill kill kill.

He's Lawful evil... his train of thought is... kill, never ask questions, the guy in charge will just keep setting up the things around him to move the campaign forward because I FRIKKEN SPENT MONTHS WRITING THIS CAMPAIGN FOR YOU TO DERAIL IT!!!! YOU ASSHAT.

It's entertaining enough but it gets boring after a while, the set up is half a chapter of exposition dump with half a chapter of miscellaneous OP things the MC does, and spouting s*upid nonsense of how he is living unrestrained by his standards...

There is no world building, there is a semblance of characterization but c'mon, whoever falls for this dumb drivel is an edge lord, the whole premise of "Might makes right" is quite fun!, but there is only so much of this kind of one dimensional character you can take in before you start getting bored by his antics, there is a bit of witty banter but even then it's just a pretext for the mu*der hobo to keep on mu*derin'

I don't really think this is a badly written novel "per se" but there isn't much substance of anything in here, action scenes? he's too OP for them to be interesting, future dread? he's too OP to feel any kind of dread, romance? he's a mu*der hobo... even if the author is trying to force the girls to "like" him he's a mu*der hobo so don't expect any of that.

"I will change the world for the better!" yah, because the warring states era of Japan was sooo good... HAH, good joke author. <<less
