Read the whole thing. Enjoyable read but...

The characters are bland, including the protagonist and supporting characters.

The antagonists are bland. There's nothing to feel attached to, they're mostly quest a, quest b, target a, target b

The thing I liked is the story's setting. Honestly, nothing made about the characters interest me and I feel the story could have continued even if they die or replaced with others including the MC. What kept me reading is that I want to know what will happen to the worlds they're in and to the... more>> mission. Satisfactory ending even though the final fight for the climax didn't move me in anyway.

Wanna know what happend?

The novel is enjoyable. It's a generic 'survival game' type of novel with good pacing and decent variety of adrenaline pumping survival missions thrown your way. It has few descriptions. The majority of the writing is simple dialogue or action, making it feel like a 'junk food' type of novel. I like junk food. :) The downside is that the logic that the characters use is downright moronic, and you're left with nothing but eyerolls. Examples below:

Spoiler
    • MC personally wanted to scout teammates for the 'rank up' mission from Lvl E to D because it was a risky mission... but then decides to join a group of random players without having talked to them before.
    • Person's sister is in a mission where they could die at any mission and need urgent help. MC decides to take over 2 hours to make a decision...
    • MC knows super OP people, but doesn't ask for their help on embarking in life-threatening missions
[collapse]

All in all, it's a fun read though it has some execution issues.

I'm really enjoying this novel. The premise is simple, and the backdrop is easily grasped and the story has a good tempo. I think the only issue I have it with the link back to reality as I feel it falls short of what is happening in the virtual world turned reality. However, I'm thoroughly enjoying this. If you enjoy stories that include survival, human nature, body modification, upgrading and strategy - this is for you.

TL:DR An interesting premise but written in the most boring way possible halfway.

I like this kind of MC, the kind of just chill and cool MC it's different than the usual cliche Cold MC that is overly rational or MC that is too jumpy. If you wants a bit of a mature and realistic take in the character making then this is for you, MC here wasn't someone that would be your favorite and memorable character but he acts like a normal and reasonable guy at least, he has his... more>> own shortcomings but that's a plus because that makes him relatable (at least on the first half).

The MC here is strong but not Overpowered if you want MC display his awesomeness and dominating an enemy then this isn't a good novel for ya. This could be a good thing or bad to others depends on preference, MC most of the time getting a hard time fighting an enemy, it's fine at first but very annoying after a while. I just hate how the author keeps tilting the favor over the Enemy all the time. I quite like it at the beginning but it becomes frustrating to read later on. The fights are also very detailed but wasn't written or translated well, I just skips some detailed parts because the descriptions was so ret*rded and doesn't make sense, it was written in a way you can never understand. [This line for example: "this place is a world outside this world of the three worlds"] I got an idea but it's so f*cking confusing. The side characters here are good, they're not quirky characters but they're characters you wish chinese novels had as they're very reasonable and act like a real person and had a realistic psychology. But fun things also end, author keeps ruining the story and the characters, when nearing the ending the author creates some very s*upid and unreasonable antagonists causing trouble here and there. Completely the opposite of what the characters I just praised above.

Aside from those, both translation and execution of the plot didn't do this justice either. The bad execution isn't apparent at the beginning but become pronounced in the second half of the story, sometimes you will wonder if you skipped a part as it feels like some part was cut and the next chapters continuation doesn't make f*cking sense. The construction of sentences is really confusing too and really ruins the story, the translation is sometimes alright but sometimes could be even worst than mtl if you think about the translator using words that shouldn't be used. This story would've been better without going to every bit of details, adding some in depth explanation and calculation shits in the middle of the fight scene. Jesus. With how much I like the premise yet I'm having a hard time enjoying, it's a torture.

Then let's talk about the ending. While plotholes appear in some parts I can get through those but what the f*ck is that ending? It starts goes downhill in the second half of the story, but I forced myself to go through those long and boring arcs because I really want to see what would happen next and I thought it would get better. WELL IT DIDIDN'T.
Author also fails to many things like for Example this was on narration in the story: "That is how the world came to face a catastrophe without knowing it. The first start began in Africa." Author is making some foreshadowing but turns out a failure because there's nothing big happen after that. The mood of the story and the reactions of characters when that 'Catastrophe' happen was so lukewarm it was as if some kind of traffic accident was being reported on the news, nothing special. So much for creating a hype by using the word "catastrophe". Lol

And in conclusion, the MC is just some lab rat who is being used and even at the near end he's still letting those people use him and just accepted it. No revenge at all and those people didn't get redemption either. It's such a chore to read but It's just blandly ended. It's just gone. Just nothing.

It was a good story at start but once you felt like the story starts to go downhill don't bother forcing yourself to read 'til the end, it's not worth it, it is very unrewarding and unsatisfactory conclusion. At least drop it and leave with a light heart than finish it and get pissed so bad.

Story 4/5
World Building 2.5/5
Characters 4.5/5
Enjoyment 2/5
Overall "3/5"

I gave it this score by trying my best to be considerate, I don't think I gave a novel so much kindness in score as much as this. I want to give this f*cking novel a solid 1 with how bad it was written but I still enjoyed the concept & the first half, so I just let it go. <<less

Author completly lost me in v2c34

The tutorial alone is so hard that only the top 10% of lifers survive. So how come there is a completly spoiled Brat in MCs first important Mission that cant even shoot at Monsters because he is scared?

I also heard people say MC is ruthless and what not but so far he is just a complete pushover.... more>>
Spoiler

spoiled brat wants his items so he send people to attack him and take them MC obviously wins the fight. Then his party gets captured and only the people who attacked him before survive when MC arrives. He still rescues them even though they are dickheads ok sure he gets some points for it. Then they backstab him again and only one person survives but MC is sure he killed the others because one guy died from suffocation and not fighting monsters. So instead of killing the guy he tries to talk to him almost gets killed and the guy escapes????? How much of a pushover can you be. This is where I stopped but its just so obvious that that guy is future trouble for MC which really makes me not want to read any further.

The story flow is in a typical korean way (if you've read KR dungeon novels you'll know), but the enemies are not. The plot is also progressing quite well and the gore aspect does make a difference.

My only question is in their discrimination to woman,
Spoiler

regarding that their body can't compare to men even after going through body modifications, well it is shit. Just because of more muscle that can be bridged through exercise and training which by the way they are already doing through the missions

"Life Mission" for me is one of the few novels that gets better with every chapter until the very end.
Story is about a mysterious virtual reality game "Life Mission" that players fight with mutants in earth after a virus out break. The MC is the best player in the game and when he conquered a S ranked mission as the first person, the game is suddenly suspended and is replaced with a real world version. In the real version you can actually go to to another earth and fight... more>> with mutants but you could also really die.

So most of this story is about the game world and is going on in missions, but every mission takes place in a different environment, has it's own story, needs different strategy and mutants are diverse. Lifers sometimes have to spend months in a mission,

Events and battles are described with plenty of details, almost sound like a game play tutorial so it's really fun to read especially if you like gaming, but also it takes more time reading than most other novels.

Even post 200 chapters, the game mystery, missions and fights are still captivating for me and even get better.

But in later chapters I encountered a huge logical problem which doesn't let me enjoy the story fully. As the story goes it will become all about going to missions and fighting mutants. So at some point you start wondering why the hell is ever Lifer playing this although real but still a game so seriously? Half of a party getting killed in every mission has become a norm but the Lifers still go into the missions like their life depends on it.
They are not soldiers nor are forced to play, there is no apparent threat to their world and people either. All Lifers have became rich thanks to the received points but they use most of it to upgrade their gears and take on harder missions until they are killed.

Also the real world side development is not comparable to the game world especially at first but gets much better later on. I think characters have little backstory, family, friend development and we mostly see them when going to missions.

The MC in particular beside some party members has no friends, family or any life in the real world.
With the points he has accumulated he has a wealth of hundreds of millions dollars but he does nothing except getting more gears. He for some one who had nothing going on in his life except playing a game, is too prideful and puts no one in his eyes not even the government or guild masters.
At the start of story he rejects almost all corporation requests although with really favorable conditions, without reason and even doesn't agree too meet them easily because he thinks its bothersome. Yet he gladly dive into the missions and fight with his life on the line for some points.

Although these problems fade away later on, the story and world building start to mature and become more exiting as chapters progress and the flow of events are interesting and nonlinear.

Overall it's an interesting story with exiting battles. <<less

This novel is definately a 3.8 to 4 out of 5. It's like Solo Leveling and Omnisciemt Reader's secret lovechild. Interesting plot and story, not too exagerrated, but there are a couple problems that aren't *too* serious but can be a bit of a dampener. 1) The translation is taking a nosedive randomly. Like, Battle Suit is Battleshoot for almost 70-90 chapters. 2) The pacing starts slowing down later on, mainly around the submarine part.

Life Mission is this kind of story that are overall pretty good but has a lot of little issues along the way. I would honestly grade it 3.5.

Like all stories it has its up and downs. First let's talk about the story itself and its beginning.

Our main character is Cha Jun Sung. He is considered the best in the Virtual Version of Life Mission, a virtual game where the main goal is to hunt Mutants infected by what is known as A Virus through the help of futuristic weapons /... more>> armors (called BattleSuit). Why is he the best ? First, because he is considered as the strongest for various reasons revealed later in the story.
Spoiler

He is the only one to have succeeded in the 10th body upgrade, which deletes your characters if it fails, where all others rankers stopped at 9th. And he is also the only one to have succeeded in remodeling his BattleSuit with 10 combinations, where there again, all the others rankers only did 9 combinations.

[collapse]
Secondly, because as the story starts he succeeds in hunting a level 9 Mutant (Max Level), which makes him the only one to have hunted one of the 6 level 9 Mutants existing in the game.

Our MC start the reality version of this game that start just after he killed a level 9 inside the virtual one, where for the first time he has to kill a living being (even though its a level 1 Mutant) and, like for the majority of people nowadays, for the first times feels a threat to his life.

At first he feels like he will never go back to a mission after his initial one, but in the end he goes back to one (thankfully or the story would end there). The question is, why ? Why would someone "normal" would want to risk his life through multiple "missions" where his goal is to kill mutants ?
Well, the reasons varies, obviously you have fanatics or crazy people. Then you have some that understand that they can become crazy rich through this "game". Then you have the ones that wants to keep going as to become super-human through the body modifications like in the virtual version (body upgrades that goes through 1st to 10th stage, that makes you live longer, can also make you younger if you're past your prime, etc...).
For our MC, this super-human is only a little part of why he keeps "playing". The main reason is his pride. Pride because he was the best virtual player and wants to be the best in the reality version too. He wants to become as strong as he was in the virtual version. And as the story progress, he also grow a desire to understand the purpose of Life Mission, and he feels like that he will not know it except if he reach the last level of the game and kill a level 9 Mutant. This is where I first felt like something wasn't right, would people really risk there life so much just for Pride ?

Our MC then starts to go through multiples missions starting from Level E missions (lowest level) to earn points to buy stuff and upgrades his body, to then do an advancement mission to unlock the upper level of missions and store (levels D, C, B, A, S). Along the way he will start gaining allies to form a team as solo-ing everything becomes harder and harder. So will we follow him through those missions until he reach level S and beat a level 9 Mutant ? That's the idea but thankfully not exactly.

First, thankfully the author understand that reading the same thing again and again is boring, so he skips a lot of useless grinding (Did I say that the first level of body modification is 100 000 points when he only earns like 500-1000 Points for missions in level E ?), the author will keep doing that through the story and have a lof of time skips through those grindings, only leaving the important missions, or a few little ones.

This can be considered the first part of the story. I'll not go into details for the rest of the story, but the story then focus a little bit more on the reason of existence of Life Mission with a few hints overall that will not be revealed until the last few chapters. In my opinion, the reason is kinda meh, but that's a personal opinion. Partial huge spoilers (i.e end spoilers) here for the reason:
Spoiler

Future earth people had to leave earth to go through space and wants to colonize some new planet with strong monsters. But they can't decide how to fight those monsters, so they start an experiment through Life Mission. I won't say more but that's the idea.

[collapse]

Anyway, the first part of the story can be considered pretty nice if you like the genre. And when you get a bit used to it, the author makes a good job of hitting you with something new every time in the second part of the story. Which makes for an enjoyable story. The end as others have said, feels rushed for the last 30-40 chapters, and will end with a few things not concluded sadly, but no major stuff.

Now about the characters... Oh god... Honestly ? They sucks. Our MC is still mostly ok, he thinks of saving himself before saving others, which is reasonable, but where he fails is that his main reason to keep playing initially was his pride, then he often acts like a shy guy through the story, I don't really know, but in my mind it feels contradictory for someone who wants to stand above all.

But that's not the worst part about characters, no that's actually the best one... While side-characters at first feels to have importance alongside our MC, they become less and less relevant as the story progress. They even becomes not mentioned at all through whole fights sometimes. And yes that stands for his teammates too sadly, even though the plot explains that. It's at a point that at the end of the story, outside of his teammates who are mentioned just a little bit more, I have almost no idea if some characters are alive or not.

And then again, even in his teammates, some could be invisible and that wouldn't change anything after a while.
Spoiler

Funny thing, at one point, a ranker nicknamed "Invisible" join their team. Well that's about the impact he had on the story, nothing, he was invisible through all the chapters for me.

[collapse]

About that, I need to talk about a role that made me facepalm a lot about the uselessness of it. Medic. First, let me tell you that they can heal everything as long they finish the missions and pay the points needed for it (as introduced very early in the story).
Spoiler

Then, after a while, the author introduce to us to some Lifers who decided to specialize in the Medic role, they prioritize buying medic tools to heal injuries of other Lifers during missions. That sounds good and useful right ? I mean, they could save life or restore battle force for case where people gets injured during the mission without having to wait the end of it, right ? Wrong. They are just deadweight for their team, 99% of the time. Let's be honest, through the whole story, the role of Medic was used 3-4 whole times. And 2 times, the mission was actually already over, so they just saved a bit of points when their stuff costs as much as weapons to buy.
That would be ok if they were just fighter that also bought the medical stuff, but no, they are people that just heals and have a very low fire power. I could still accept it if it was only that... But then when the characters start to specialize / customize their battlesuit, the author actually say that Medics specialize it for healing ? Like, seriously ? It's called a "BattleSuit", not a "HealingSuit"... And there is no explanation of the usefulness of it compared to normal healing stuff... Nobody would do that in real life I think.

Obviously, our MC has such a Medic in his team, which makes even less sense as they are a low member team with very high fighting power for each member in theory, and because they are one of the best team around, they don't really get hurt so much. What's even funny, is that other teams take as much as 10% of the whole raids in the final missions.

[collapse]

Anyway, this whole medic stuff is very minor thing that made me sigh a lot. What's way worse and s*upid from the author though is the whole PK thing.

Like in most games, the virtual version of the game had PK loving players (Players Killers if you don't know, which I doubt). That makes sense, what doesn't makes sense however is that now that the game is real, all of those PK loving players became PK in real life too. Yes ALL. So all of them actually became mu*derers. They even form a group called "Bloody Kingdom" and wear the symbol of it as a tattoo (funny when you remember that early in the story they are introduced as being people that needs to stay discreet so they can kill people). You could wonder why they do that ? Explanations being, some of them are psycho of course, but the main reason is
Spoiler

that they gain 10% of the points their victims have currently on them. Yes currently, so if I spent 10 millions points in total for my stuff and have 100 points on me and someone kills me, they will earn 10 points. Could they loot my stuff ? Nope, hardly, most of it will be inside my locked personal bag, the only thing they could loot would be my armor and weapon that would probably be destroyed after we fought anyway.

[collapse]

Those things are just plain s*upidity from the author. They are so numerous that they are the 2nd strongest force in the whole story. Plus as the story progress, the missions needs so much people inside of it that they actually just group together just like a regular guild would do to complete the missions, so would they kill each others ? Then how are they progressing as much as the 1st force that aren't mu*derers and that is well known for being stronger...?

Anyway, the last thing that I need to talk about is the writing. Overall it's ok, but a few chapter are just difficult to understand, sometimes it may be because of the translation but that's still good, and I feel like that most of it comes from the author writing style. Like someone said, the points earned through missions and mutants killing becomes very inconsistent near the end of the story (sometimes talking in Billions, other in Trillions...).

The worst part in my opinion is the 16th chapter of the story. If you start reading the story and arrive at this chapter where you start reading it and understand absolutely nothing because of the cut from last chapter, here is a little explanation of what's happening:
Spoiler

After Jun Sung had his talk with Zephyrus, this last one left the mission to return to reality, while Jun Sung stay around a little longer for no reason, and that's when the chapter start. It starts with the birth of a powerful monster in the zone around where they were hunting monsters. The monster being born is actually the king of all the Level 1 that they have been killing and all the others level 3-5 monsters around the scene where he is being born (Level 3 are called Evil Blood-Suckers while level 5 are called Demon Blood-Suckers for this species of mutants). This scene is here just to show that linked-missions are possible, i.e some missions give informations about new ones or can unlock new ones, and this one gave informations about a possible future level A mission.

[collapse]

In conclusion, the story is overall pretty good. The characters are not so good. The writing is sometimes pretty meh. The total makes something enjoyable if you like a good story without too much depth and can accept some little plot hole / s*upidity (i obviously didn't talk about everything that made me sigh).

As I know that some people enjoy that, i'll just add that there is absolutely no sub romance plot for our MC, his goal will stay from start to finish to understand the world he is in. <<less

I'm not one to write reviews but no one has a review on the completed story. I feel the same as most of the other reviews in that the story is 5/5, but in the last 30 chapters it really degrades as the ending feels really rushed and its seems the quality of the story feels worse as a result. It's still not worst thing I've read and is still worth a 4/5

So if you wondering if its worth a read now that its finished, I would say that it... more>> is. <<less

It's not terrible, but not good enough for me to read past the dumb MC. I like the concept, people can accept missions to gain superhuman strength and advanced technology.

The writing definitely isn't the best overall, but it's okay. A pretty typical example: he has used over 500 bullets in a fight against two enemies (that aren't even particularly tough against bullets, just dodging), and that only killed one. That's silly enough, but it gets even better when you realize that he only has 9 30rd magazines... so I'm guessing... more>> he was just like "time out, I've gotta pack some mags" and they just chilled for a while.

The MC is pretty dumb though... some of the things he's done:

Spoiler

he decided to stop going solo because missions get harder, so he looks for a team. The problem is that he seems to hate agreeing on profit sharing upfront?? Because I guess he enjoys fights over loot later. He eventually does find somebody and says they'll look for a full team before doing hard mission... and then they just go straight to some randos on that mission??? Not even an easier trial mission to see if they're compatible. Then he ends up trapping himself and fighting ~1500 enemies despite the mission only being recon + he already snuck in. Eventually he comes across bodies with loot but chooses to ignore them and waste the money. He also knows somebody is a killer, but just walks up and talks to him instead of shooting from stealth in order to set up what seems to be a recurring villain type thing.

[collapse]

The writing isn't unreadable and the MC is dumb but not an instant-drop... but the combination of the two is bad enough I'll just stop here. <<less

There is this thing about learning how Korean works go sometimes. This I didn't found at the beginning: "TLMS, Among other similar inspired VRMMO's novels, (not going to call them 'cuz angry monkey lovers would just think it's a clone of TLMS which is insulting no one else more than its author himself) it was incredible and I enjoyed novels for the first time in my life. Then came Overgeared, and other popular korean ones where they are... copy---pasta- ABSOLUTE- copy---pasta. Is like IET's works are all inspired in... more>> korean ones to that. Same formulae: "Lvls, Traits, Job, "Bosses", Dungeon, Gear, Attributes"- and to those slightly different: Reincarnation/Second Chance + all those mentioned before.

There is hardly a non-copy pasta where they even overcome chinese badly romance small stories and just, whether harem or not IS JUST THE GAD DEM SAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMEEAAAAH.

This one is a gem compared to such.

Good way to intro, good way to make me feel their every written character isn't ink on paper, they are a universe no doubt.

But it does have this issue.

Plot devices, progression in the story, characters... is dirt on his novel... is all great until it starts developing, so I may give it a little more and then just politely and unwillingly bid farewell. <<less

It is quite an interesting theme...

it is humane, a lot of thinking and a good choice to spent times without being aggressively hooked up. Like it’s not that engaging but I read it simply because I need to finish it.

A shame that no more plan given to the side char, focusing only to the bigger plan. Quite a lot of underdeveloped potential...

... more>> I think a good friendship could be more mentioned, but no romance and no harem is a big plus though...

because this is a finished one, so we could just accept it. <<less

Actually it's a pretty cool novel with an MC that doesn't suck. He is smart and does his things properly, furthermore he doesn't go around saving everyone. The world has a nice cruelty to it, exactly what you would expect from a survival story. The combat is smart and fast-paced. There is nothing much to dislike if you like the genre.

Unfortunately in the later parts the translation quality drops (machine TL?), which forced me to stop.

This story has a refreshing ending... not rushed, nothing idiotic... peaceful (not exactly, but you'll know) and although there are times when it feels cliche but then it is not really... no idiotic love scenes in this...

The MC has very less character development and he lacks a bit of a human touch since the beginning, I guess it is the lack of parent figures in the story that made it seem like that.

I did not skim through the fights but only one or two arcs were stretched, otherwise, the scenes... more>> are not that boring (I find fight scenes boring to read). The only issue I had were the point system, I don't know if it is the fault of the translators or the author because they type 10, 000, 000, write it as 10 billion and then mention he earned 1 trillion... so it's all very confusing and I just stopped caring about points after a certain length. <<less

Interesting sci-fi novel, there is a substantial intrigue about the story and the purpose. I don't think there is anything too outstanding with this series but it's a fun pick-up because it's done.

All in all I thought it was good and well developed.

Enjoy!

the beginning is somewhat lacking but I think it's not that bad.

but overall, for me, the story is great, the plot is interesting.

the MC is fine but sometimes make a rather dissapointing choice.

Edited:

As a Korean webnovel, it is just like the other KN on the site. Rushed, lackluster character, lacking common sense, absurd cliches. I will still rate it 3.5 but, since I enjoyed it I make it 4 stars. The setting is on infected Earth, with all mutants warring on territories. Then comes the Lifers with missions to hunt mutants. Then the story goes on. The story is good at the start but like other kn, it goes downhill after
Spoiler

, tension is released, im not saying it's a bad thing. Character development is one big problem. I don't even feel his teammates, Jun Shik is the only one develop, the other 3 girls are not. The author focused too much on world building and he forgot his character, even the MC feels dull. I've read tens of korean novels to feel numb to their style of writing. I just found this unique and interesting to read. Recommended for those who wants constant action and suspense and bloody.
