First things first, she needs to survive and latch onto the big thigh of a patron. But the supporting male lead is a true gentleman and feels nothing for her stunning, alluring body. That’s alright! She’ll latch onto the old madame or the male lead then!

But why does the supporting male lead look at her with increasingly odd eyes? And what of that Wulin Alliance Head with the personality disorder? You’re just a random bystander, what are you getting involved for??

Finally, the male lead could bear it no longer and dragged her back to the Prince Li Manor…

The main character seems to suffer from brittle bone syndrome, a gust of wind will cause all her ribs to be crushed. Seriously, every chapter a doctor has to come in order take care of her sudden injuries. The author seems to romanticize this horrible trait by making it seem appealing to the male lead, "ooh shes so helpless and weak like a defenseless blind kitten" in fact I feel like a kitten would be able to fight back more instead of this heroine. Her skin is also made out... more>> of paper or something, but in order to make up for all of this she's suppose to be the most beautiful woman in china from the way they describe her in every chapter.

Spoiler

The original main female heroine gets villainized for no good reason and she ends up getting sexually assaulted and then r*ped. Afterwards, all the other characters (the male lead especially) proceed to blame her and call her a whore. Its hard not to pity her when the new female lead is a hypocritical coward wearing a mary sue crown, who only cares about herself. I don't mind manipulative type characters, but this woman doesn't even have the brains to do that.

[collapse]

I forgot how old this woman was suppose to be but I know that she was a grown ass woman in her other life in the modern world, but in this world she acts like a child. <<less

In the beginning, the story was hilarious and the misunderstandings were cute, however after the same thing keeps happening over and over again, it's getting boring and predictable. The interactions of the MC and ML are about "oh he's so scary but so hot" and "she's so cute, I want to do her" and there's really not much more to that. The author is going for a malicious/cold ML and simple-minded sweet MC. And while these kinds of characters should be perfect together, they aren't because their interactions are too... more>> forced. The MC is just s*upid. Not dense. PURE s*upid.
Spoiler

She doesn't see the obvious signs of the ml's love. So she is just misunderstanding all own her own because the story needs an excuse to continue the conflict. I would be okay with some prolonging since novels just need to do it for obvious reasons (cash, more drama, etc), but it's been happening since forever. Everything is becoming tedious to read.

I really enjoyed reading this novel. The MC was refreshingly unique--while she appeared to be a naive and innocent concubine, she was actually a scheming and cunning young woman. This made the novel quite hilarious; it always put a smile on my face when the supporting characters and Long Heng (the male lead) misunderstood the mischievous Bai Xiangxiu.

BUT this very same fact raises an interesting question--does Long Heng really love her? In the novel, it's pretty obvious he is absolutely infatuated with the adorable, faultless, and innocent Bai Xiangxiu. But... more>> does he love the devious, calculating fox she truly is? Isn't his attraction all a lie?

Maybe the question is too deep for a light, fluffy novel like DCF. And honestly, I don't really care that much. I still LOVE this novel. I just hope he learns to love her for who she truly is.

Spoiler

Actually, Long Heng did have a glimpse of her true character in one of the first chapters. Bai Xiangxiu was walking with her maid while wearing a long skirt. She kept tripping clumsily and cursed, "Whoever that invented this long skirt was clearly trying to ruin the lives of females. His corpse deserves to be whipped a hundred times. A hundred times!"

Both Long Heng and Song Jiaoyue (supporting male lead) heard this loud proclamation, concluding that she was quite a violent concubine. In current chapters, however, both hold the opinion that she's a cute and innocent girl. So what happened to that incident? Did they just completely overlook it? Lmao.

I totally love this novel and anticipated the next chapter everyday...

A transmigration story with no OP power. FMC is a modern woman and is likable, sensible, talented botanist and is so adorable. The ML is funny and different cause his not those usual black bellied ice block. Recommended this story for the comedy and the fan-comments it entails.

Just read it I recommend you will enjoy and have laugh in the side story comments made by readers..

Just another female transmigration story, is what I thought when I saw the summary. It's true, you've got your usual storyline, the ancient traditions, the extraordinarily beautiful MC trying to get out of things but somehow blunders here and there and always end up getting tangled with the cold male lead as well as a talking magical treasure.

What is different from other similar female-lead-in-ancient-orient story is that she's kind of normal. She likes gardening and doing woodworks, but she isn't one of those cold, ruthless female that's a genius at... more>> assasination/medicine/politics. She's rather timid and misses clues sometimes, trying to think of what other MC would do and trying to recall any poems or plotlines that would help her.

So if you like the female lead in ancient time stories, this is a nice read (well written and well translated). If you like the genius, headstrong female MC and get annoyed at the clueless/timid type, then try other stories. <<less

The FL was really irritating in the beginning. She keeps fainting and tripping. I mean I don't mind it once and while but seriously it keeps happening in almost every chapter and this only happnes when the male leads was there to catch. You can't help but role your eyes. It's like the author used this to drive the plot and make the MLs like her. "Oh she's so pure and innocent and weak so she needs our protection blah blah blah" I mean she keeps fainting over every little... more>> thing. It didn't seam like she's a modern woman. She's much more delicate than those young misses in noble families. She's the very description of a white lotus. In front of the ML she's docile in front of other she suddenly become so capable and "smart" that she was admired. It was exhuasting reading her thoughts. She keeps repeating what she said in the previous chapters like we couldn't understand her. Female lead halo that male lead halo that do not offend him/her blah blah blah. Ughhhh so annoying.

Thank god the author didn't keep this trait of her. As the story progressed she stopped being a pitiful helpless delicate beauty. The only reason why I rated this 2 was because the second half of the story wasn't bad. <<less

Well I did actually finish it. I didn’t like the subtil sexist undertone of the book though. I understand it’s mentality and suppose to adjust to the era... but in all honesty the MC even though she, was a modern woman, she still behaved a lot of times like she isn’t... and besides that, the book contained to many stereotypes.

Fun in the beginning, but after chapter 50 or so the novel became the very thing it was trying to satire. I just can't be bothered to read any more. If the novel was shorter, perhaps the self-awareness of the FMC could have been kept on the funny side.

Also, the love between the male lead and the female lead felt lukewarm. It felt like the male lead fell in love with the character the female lead was acting out, rather than her true self. Even when the female lead eventually... more>> warms up to him, it felt like she was settling for him rather than actively being in love. <<less

This story is pretty messy.

It's good for a light read, but not if you want to take it too seriously. There are plenty of plot holes and things that happen that can make you scratch your head wondering why anyone would do such a thing. The plot moves forward based on the necessity of the protagonist being ignorant of her surroundings and other people's intentions.

There's lots of passages where the MC's beauty is expounded on ad nauseum. There's also lots of passages where the MC does something and the author... more>> goes through multiple POVs just to show how awesome everyone thinks the MC is, even if the action is very minuscule or mundane.

Spoiler

There's a part where MC is captured by enemy troops and is being interrogated by an officer. She seduces him to get closer to him in order to use her hidden knife (because why capture someone and not look for hidden weapons on them right?). You'd think she'd want to go for a killing blow to escape, but instead she aims to damage his pecker. It's a flashy move, but how does that help her situation? He'd be wounded, but he'd still be alive to kill her. He of course smacks her into unconsciousness afterwards (surprise!). It just makes me scratch my head and ask, "Why??" Of course several of her admirers are standing by and rotating POVs to show how awesome they think she's being

[collapse]

The author forgets whole plotlines if it's inconvenient to them.

Spoiler

The MC is poisoned, making her weak and dizzy, and she's kidnapped. Once kidnapped, there's no more mention of her being poisoned and she's throwing around tables to rescue herself. This poison is never to be mentioned again

[collapse]

Now the relationship between MC and ML - It's mostly the MC being frightened of the ML, and the ML being autocratic and menacing. For the majority of the book, the MC is scared too witless to even talk back to him. She keeps a demure facade that the ML eventual falls for. MC's three modes are: Blushing, Scared, and Playing Dead. She constantly blushing. All. The. Time.

Spoiler

Their first consummation is when she is drugged by another party.

[collapse]

MC's antagonists aren't anything to write home about either. There was never a time I saw any of them as threatening for they are neither clever nor smart. Sometimes they're dumb to the point of incredulousness. The original female lead (now an antagonist) is merely a foil to the MC, taken to the extreme to showcase how much better the MC is in comparison.

Spoiler

This one enemy who's been poisoned by a chronic acting poison that needs to be administered an antidote every 10 days or so, forgets that she's poisoned, runs away to a hidden army camp, has the poison act up, and dies within 10 days... Why?

[collapse]

One thing I do like about the book is its humor. It did make me laugh on multiple occasions. The humor is less present in the latter portions of the book though. <<less

It was funny and interesting at first but it developed into something ridiculous. Plot is all over the place and characters are so two dimensional it hurts to read. I am honestly disappointed that the translators chose to translate this since they are very skilled and they have put so much time in such a ridiculous story. Like some others have mentioned there is some scenes that could be considered r*pe, but since she is her concubine she is suppose to put up with non consensual s*xual relationships. The female... more>> lead has a bit of Stockholm syndrome and she is honestly very ditzy while the male lead is just a brute. Side characters are just painful to watch. I am sorry I wasted so much time with this story before giving up. <<less

First and foremost, I would like to thank the translation team for doing an awesome job in translating this novel. The MC found herself inside the novel she reads and found that she's the supporting character with a bad end.

I find this novel very entertaining. I was with the MC in her adventures and her quirkiness. She was this shy and soft girl who's clueless to the traditions of the world of old China. Good thing she has the knowledge of story so she can avoid perilious situations. It's so... more>> endearing to see her doing her best to stay in the background. I can't hate her for being weak when she always do her best in situations.

What's satisfying for me tho was her growth. She grew from that scared fragile girl to someone who fights for what she wants. And of course, THE. FLUFF. My god! I am blushing and nosebleeding on this novel. My heart just screams for it. This is one of the special transmigration romances that I love.

Spoiler

I don't know why people keep saying its r*pe. I mean, come on, it's OLD CHINA. That isn't 21st century. They have their own beliefs and traditions. And the Male Lead, he's a pure guy who never had any access to girls as he was directly thrown into war. And we have this virg*n, tsundere and fragile MC who faints at the sight of blood. What would you expect? An amazing first time where there's no hurt?

YES. There will be so much satisfying *beep beep*~! But I never found it as r*pe. Why? Cause MC understands him. She knows that he's so new to it and doesnt know how to control himself that's why she can't stand up the next day. I can see how dedicated the male lead to the her and she, to him, as she fell in love. And you know, in the later part, he'll learn to be gentle to her. Since MC is his only girl, he got no bedroom expertise.

Expect a lot of scheming here too and annoying people. I swear, I'm sick of seemingly undying enemies. I just want them dead.

[collapse]

Overall, this is one of novels you read and enjoy on a good day. It's worth the read and will entertain you throughout <3

Thank you Volare for your awesome novel choices. I love all of these chinese romances <3 <<less

I'm not done yet, but I have to say that I really love this story! It's a Light read. Basically this story starts out as pure comedy and then sets itself up as a reverse harem. Up until the recent chapters around 220, nothing ever really went wrong... everything went smoothly and happily for our main character. She's super cute and pretty nice. It is really a pleasure to read. Total escapism. I am just stopping around 227 cuz I read this purely for the fun, and I think that... more>> the challenges are starting to get steep...

Chapter 220~ spoiler:

Spoiler

Basically another person from her time also appears and they are literally fighting in a war opposite each other and this person is like a lot smarter than her... Idk, I've been skimming the recent chapters because there hasn't been much Li Wang and Bai Xiangxiu time ;_; I picked up this for the romance but the romance has been waning in recent chapters. Plus, since they really got together and mutually loved each other and everything, it feels like the plot has exceeded its raison d'etre... you know what I mean...? or I'm just a lazy reader

[collapse]

If you know a little bit of Chinese, you should download the Pleco phone app or use pin1yin1. com website to read the Chinese chapters!

One serious critique that I have is that the story gets Super sexist. There is some seriously ridiculous slut-shaming. This is nothing new to Chinese light novels, but warning to those who have higher standards.

Spoiler

The poor "original main female lead" ends up a villain and her "downfall" is that she ends up having a lot of s*x with many different men. BOOOOO!!!

Honestly, just read it. All the reviews are completely correct; it's a great novel with a ton of great things that make it so great. But I think what gets me so happy about it is the fact that the MC is so real. It's fun reading about super cold blooded assassin characters or geniuses who just so happen to know how to save people with 2 stalks of grass and a rock despite having grown up with all the trappings of modern technology. But suspending all that disbelief gets... more>> tiring.

In comes BXX (our heroine) who transmigrates to a random fodder in her current LN obsession, who, while trying to be the supporting character with the least presence, ends up unwittingly replacing the female lead in the story's plot, hooking guys (and girls) like flies to honey. Add to that the fact that she still continues to observe the events unfolding as if she's still a side character, her snarky, sarcastic comments about the characters' personalities, and the fact that she, a 26 year old virg*n (original body) avoids the male lead's advances in a way that won't get her beaten to death, and you've got a story you would regret not reading. But, as stated by others, I'd recommend waiting until it's completed before diving in because the wait will make you want to rip your hair out. Or just hang out in the comment section making fanfics with the rest of us :P

Edit as of c295:

Wow. Things veered left so quickly. I wish I could change the star rating to this; it just got so bad so quickly. The characters start silly and get even more ridiculous while the plot reaches infinite levels of ridiculousness. I could accept a talking cactus seeing as the cactus might have something to do with how she transmigrated in the first place but
Spoiler

wtf is going on with the nightshade or devil vine or whatever? Who is this other random transmigrator with princess disease and a mental problem?

[collapse]

Honestly, if I wasn't reading this while it released on volarenovels, I probably wouldn't have been able to finish, it got that bad. The sense of community that forged during this novel is probably my favorite thing about it; it was quite a unique experience. But, for yall coming in after the fact, just know it's not that good. <<less

Annoying. Tons of misunderstanding because the MC is super dense. Normally that would make it funny, but it's so annoying it's not even funny. But the most annoying thing is the MC herself. She's so weak that she gets injured/faint/sick or whatever in literally every chapter immediately after she heals up.

Nothing special about her being from modern time. Doesn't do anything special. Transmigration is wasted. Mystery of why/how she's there isn't even solved or mentioned.

A good, light read. The novel is about a landscape gardener who ends up in the body of Bai Xiangxiu, who is (as the title implies) a cannon fodder in a web novel. Luckily, this is a story that doesn't take itself too seriously--the heroine transmigrates by pricking herself on a cactus; faints frequently; and can't help but think of the people around her as their roles ("male lead" instead of Long Heng, for example).

I really like the heroine. She's smart but emotionally dumb. The distance between who she actually... more>> is and how others view her is hilarious. Her plans always go awry. The plot is entertaining and the situations she lands herself in are ridiculous.

(Of course, the real star of the show is Huo'er, the talking cactus.)

The characters' low EQ can get very frustrating, but that's really my only hang-up about this novel. Otherwise, it's fun, the translations are updated frequently, and the characters are pretty distinct from each other. <<less

Let me start on why I decided to start reading this novel. I look at the other recommendation, which is My Disciple Died Yet Again. If you read that novel, then you know how funny, unpredictable and highly addicting it is. With my blind faith in MDDYA, I start reading this novel

And it's true! First of all, this is a collaboration of a group of translators, so I'm quite confident on the speed of the translations. Second, I love unorthodox heroine. If you love Reika sama from Kenkyo Kenjitsu, you'll... more>> like the MC. Up until ch 26 there's no firm ship to sail, so everyone is free to ship the MC with either the Male Character or the Supporting Male Character <<less

MC was alright, the story was fairly good.... until it wasn't. I don't like ML and his mother. They are the source of almost all of MC's problems and they are so hypocritical.

MIL: You are the best daughter-in-law, you are so talented and kind and understanding. So let me take in another woman who clearly hates you and will make your life hell. Oh no, she's not as good as you. Ok, we won't take her in anymore. I will give you full power in the house cos you are... more>> the best mistress of the house. But I will let others outside humiliate and mock you cos you're not my legal DIL. Ya, you really deserve to be mocked cos you're not my legal DIL. But you are still the best DIL ever. Let me take in another woman who will make your life hell. Cos you are my best DIL and I like you so much. =)

ML: I love you so much, you are the only woman I love. But I will let my fiancee trample on you and embarrass you and hurt you. But I really love you. Oh wait, there's another woman who likes me. I'll let her pursue me and let her kidnap and hurt you. But I really love you. But I can't protect you against her because I can't raise my hands against women. I know that all these women will constantly make your life difficult, hurt you and even attempt to kill you but I won't protect you or put a stop to them. But I really love you. Let's have a baby together.... so that my future legal wife can get angry and hurt and humiliate you. But I'm not going to make you my legal wife, you're just good enough as a concubine. But I love you...... just ignore all those women who will try to kill you because you aren't my legal wife.

Yeah, that's how sucky ML and his mother are. This story became too draggy because all the women ML spared kept coming back to harass/kidnap/kill MC. I could really care less about MIL cos she's not the main character but I really can't stand such a wishy washy ML who is willing to see the woman he loves (MC) in danger all the time just because he has no balls to put a stop to things. ML only finally puts his foot down firmly to protect MC towards the end of the story and that's why you have 293 chapters of complete nonsense when the story could've finished easily in 100 chapters if the ML was a good man to his woman. <<less

Alright, we do love transmigration romances, no? This one is quite cheesy, and handled some of the tropes well while messing up most of them. It isn't to be taken seriously, as it is obviously ridiculous by all means. Still, I couldn't really resist the urge to dwell on some of the things that irritated me overall.

I've been reading revenge transmigration/rebirth novels for a good while now, and I've seriously had enough of them already. I've had enough of all the Mary Sues who have nothing but absolute power and... more>> revenge in their minds, slaying all the side characters on the way. What happened to the stereotypical damsel in distresses? Fragile, spoiled MCs? The contemporary novels with modern society rules have forgone them all, and I'm not really against strong and intelligent MCs either. But still, sometimes I really miss sweet and fluffy romances with feeble, timid MCs. Clichés do exist for a reason, because people liked them in the first place! So it really was a breath of fresh air despite being clichéd. The MC who only wished to survive and had no qualms conforming with the period and her current position was something that I hadn't seen for such a long time that it took me by quite a surprise in the beginning. I was more than eager to read ahead, only to see this trope I love so much being ruined mercilessly...

It's fine to be weak and delicate, currying favor, arousing pity and love... But what on earth is with pretending to faint just to prevent the ML from having another concubine? And all the inconsistencies... The characters get so OOC that my eyes rolled so hard that they almost fell out of their sockets! The ML is described as the type to favor delicate and obedient women who provoke his protective instincts in the beginning, but then why does he take a turn and prefers intelligent and headstrong women? Not to forget the MC who used to trip on flat ground, collapse at the slightest gust of wind, and faint at the sight of a drop of blood turning into a Marry Sue who takes on tortures and gallops bravely in the battlefield! This is not called character development, this is simply getting OOC.

Despite all the frustrations, I still admire the ML for being so devoted and respectful towards the MC. He didn't rush their relationship and instead waited for her consent for as long as he could. The MC didn't linger too much on her reservations and instead chose to live the best out of her current life. The side male characters weren't bad nor good either, they were mostly just for show and didn't hinder the relationship of the main characters too much. One thing I regret is that the MC didn't tell the ML of her transmigration at all. The one thing I care about the most in romance novels is the interaction between the main characters, and I really wish for them to bare their hearts towards each other. Living in such a strange environment, far away from her actual family and friends, the MC obviously has lots of trouble coping with the circumstances. I really would like to see her telling the ML about her original world, her true personality and feelings. Only then would we see a sincere interaction.

The storyline wasn't too lame, the characters weren't too bad, but it still lacked a lot of things. It was a bit boring, especially during the parts with Lin Qianzi and Su Yun. However, I enjoyed it overall. I'm giving it a 3.5. <<less
