Okay, first of all, this is nothing like Overlord except for the basic premise. Overlord has tons of interesting characters both in Nazarick and The New World but that doesn't happen here. I can't remember any of the side characters except for a few and the antagonists are basically copy-paste of every cliche isekai villain ever.

The fact that some people are trying to show the fact that the MC gets some "Action" at night compared to Ainz just to defend this shows just how lackluster the story itself is.

Anyways, just... more>> read it as a cliche Isekai novel and you will only be moderately disappointed. Read this expecting something like Overlord and you would want to burn this sh*t after 20 chapters. <<less

The title should be change to " How to be a tool - The art of being taken advantage by others"

This novel may be or may not like overlord at the same time. There are major and many similarities to overlord and many differences to note. The first thing to assess here is the MC. While the MC of Overlord is quite a normal guy with likable and relatable sides to him, the MC in this novel is the opposite of it. In fact everything in overlord did has logic... more>> and proper procedure until they achieve their goal but in this novel, it is a stereotypical cliche and so on, everything that will happen is predictable and not fun to read while in Overlord is unpredictable and fun to read.

Everything in this novel clearly defies what Overlord did in anyway. Probably avoiding copy rights issues that may occur.

I think Quite a few people hate Overlord but I think its not really to be proud of and engage in pointless nonsensical argument whether the MC is something negative or not (some people just pretending to read the said novel to get attention and flame the said novel).

Back to the topic. I think all the negative reviews here comes from the fact that the novel is badly written and anyone can write a plot like this novel had and do much better than this novel had done. It is really frustrating when you see people doing official novel writing but they don't give their all or best at writing an interesting and meaningful novel. Instead they produce novels that is more like a draft novel to me that normal people can write and write better plot than this novel.

Honestly speaking. This a novel for self fappin.... I mean self satisfaction of the author. He portrayed the MC as a faultless person that has selfless personality. I could vomit rainbows to how cheesy this feels eeekh. Its okay to help someone but being selfless at the cost of your lifeline. nuh uh never ever gonna do that. The MC is just like a saint but I see him as a tool that can be easily taken advantage off. If many people request of the MC for elixir to heal their relatives about 1000 people, I'm sure the MC will give it to them for free even though he only has 2000 stocks and limited ingredients because it is a new world. Inviting strangers to your base just because you want to brag about it. Its like saying "Uh hey this is my power (toy) and if anyone who can bested me at all this then I will be screwed so if anyone is interested in screwing me and my home then go on".

As far as the MC's goal, he seems to have not planned every step he will take and he will just do what comes to his mind.

Most japanese novels have pacifist MC. It is ironic because in world war 2, japan is war mongering and attacking countries one after another and commits many war crimes. A wolf trying to hide in a sheeps clothes I see.

Edit: Well the translation seems to improve a bit in later chapters so it's okay. <<less

Yes, it's a blatant ripoff of Overlord. Yes, it's not as good as Overlord in terms of setting. But honestly, I enjoyed it more than Overlord in some ways. WARNING: Overlord spoilers follow.

So here's my comparisons:

Overlord is better but the plot honestly never made sense to me; Ainz's decisions were never very rational and it felt like it was being dark and edgy for the sake of being dark and edgy, with stuff like the MC killing people he had treated as allies out of nowhere for completely irrational reasons... more>> like "I want to test the defenses of my impregnable death fortress by using the people I've already confirmed to be incomparably weaker than me" or "I want to start a war for no reason." I eventually dropped Overlord due to that (immediately following the big war).

Meanwhile this is not dark. It's a two dimensional power trip wherein the MC fully realizes his power and basically uses it to do whatever he wants, while leaving the details to his subordinates. Honestly, he feels like what I felt Ainz should be: A guy who was used to running an unrivaled guild. But what the end result is is that the MC feels more relatable than Ainz on many levels, but the plot is boring. The MC has no threats, and doesn't need to do anything because his comrades can handle it all, so he basically runs around with no worries whatsoever.

Which is better? Well... Overlord is better. Overwhelmingly. But this is honestly more enjoyable to me, and I can relate to the MC a bit more than Ainz, especially later arc Ainz.

At the end of the day, I remember Overlord as something I really liked but eventually left a bad taste in my mouth, and I enjoyed this novel, but I probably won't remember it. <<less

To get the Overlord question out of the way, the main similarities are the first few chapters and that the MC and subordinates are OP.

The MC is no pu*sy but still a decent human being with normal flaws and sexdrive (he wont turn down what is offered). If you think of Ainz as a fanatic scarrycat who is falling slowly into insanity and coldness. Then the MC in question is a tolerant person who still doesn't have a problem with incinerating tens of thousands if they are an attacking army.

The... more>> story is fun, but has some structural problems. TL quality is low but its alright since the TL speed is high.

Its less fascinating than Overlord (mainly due to the way its build and TL quality) but even after 160+ chapters im always excited for the next one.

The main flaw of the story is that it has to many characters so it gets hard to remember since the the author uses names instead of attributes to describe the people involved in a scene. <<less

The title is a dead giveaway and that means it immediately depletes the potential of the story.

This story = Overlord - (Awesome Plot + Interesting Main Characters + Interesting Side Characters + Great Protagonist + Great World Building + Great Side Stories)

[collapse]

A mathematical equation is easier to understand than this story. Too many characters are introduced too quickly. The characters don't even have depth in them. The names of the countries and nations sound like they weren't thought about much. There's that harem that is not really explained much. The plot is like a dot that doesn't move because it's a dot. The story doesn't have legs and the protagonist doesn't have balls.

Overall Review: 2 Stars

1/2 because the comedy is at least to my tastes

2/2 because at the very least it's a good way to waste away your hours while waiting for the next volume of Overlord <<less

This novel exceeded my expectations, in terms of contents. However, the translation quality, the writing quality (the structure of the story, not the tranlating) and the VERY slow pacing kinda ruins it.

Plus, the begining is very similar to that of Overlord

If you can put up with slow pacing or bad translation, this is for you.

Rating: 2-2.5, Translation: 3.5

[Rating/Translation scale: 5 = almost all readers may enjoy / infrequent minor errors. 4 = large majority of readers may enjoy / frequent minor errors or infrequent major errors, no difficulty to read. 3 = 50% of readers may enjoy / frequent major errors, unable to understand some sentences or a paragraph in a chapter. 2 = niche audience may enjoy / unable to understand moderate portion of a chapter. 1 = portion of niche audience may enjoy / unable to understand most of a chapter.]

Description: A... more>> solo player in a VR-MMORPG created a guild with only himself and 200+ customized NPCs. He "fell asleep" in-game and woke up with his guild and castle in a medieval fantasy world. The translation is still at a very early chapter #40. So far, the MC has directed his guild to make contact with a couple of surrounding countries, has some early confrontations with them, and has made his initial declaration of "founding his own country."

Criticisms: The writing feels like a rough first-draft of a web novel. The author even writes lot of notes apologizing for his writing. The main issue is lack of development of plot and characters. For example, the author will drop a the names of a dozen NPC guild characters, and then I will forget who they are in the next chapter. The early plot feels like an outline version of some of Overlord's volumes. Outline as in there is minimal build-up or step-wise progression, as if condensing each volume into several chapters. Like Overlord, the MC and his NPCs are already maxed out OP, so without a fleshed out plot, it just becomes a list of events where the OP MC crushes the another-worlders. On the other hand, those who found Overlord to be too slow, they might prefer this faster pace. The MC seems like a normal guy, so then his reason for forming a country ends up being strange: not wanting nobles to talk to him as if he's a commoner? And it's strange that there's no transition from being a normal salaryman to laughing about killing thousands of enemies.

Translation: It's machine translated, so there are awkwardly phrased sentences. Just a few of them can be harder to understand. I rate between a 3 and 4 on my scale. The current translation rate is very fast, about 1 chapter a day.

Overall: The general story seems like it could be good, similar to early plot of Overlord. But the storytelling feels like a web novel's rough draft. I think a number of "another world" fans may not be satisfied with the quality, but a little more than just a dedicated following may continue reading, so I give it a 2-2.5 on my scale. In the future, if the author comes out with an improved LN version, maybe readers who left might be interested in taking a look at it. <<less

Overlord with mediocre writing, fast pace and MC throws caution to the wind. This does not mean that I don't like it. This is pretty light hearted compared to Overlord so don't take it seriously just enjoy it.

I can understand why people are angry at this after saying that this is an Overlord copy reading it will obviously disappoint you. While its beginning is really similar to overlord it changes later on as the story isn't that deep and is goofy at times. What I'll say is that don't read... more>> this while expecting something at the level of Overlord, lets be honest if every isekai novel had the quality of Overlord's writing there wouldn't be so many shitty isekais out there. Don't set the bar too high while reading isekai you'll only disappoint yourself. Also this is quiet blatently guilty pleasur/self insert.

Well at least the MC isn't pu*sy when it comes to snu~snu~ and does it a lot and I mean A LOT though kinda disappointed there wasn't much detail about it tho ://.

Anyway read this if you're bored and got nothing to do. <<less

My reasons for 5 star.

May not be yours, but should help you decide too.

  1. Similar enough to Overlord that I wanted to see what all the huffing and puffing on the reviews were about. So I did read. And found it was kind of like Overlord, but different enough to stand away on its own.
  2. Because I liked the MC. I've come realize that unlike Overlord, I really liked this MC. He isn't a perfect guy, but hell, he isn't a total douche bag like Overlord Ainz. We like MC we can relate or identify with. After a while, I couldn't connect with Ainz anymore. It was like the dude was becoming something other than a total douche bag and seriously, I'm not a douche bag. So I couldn't handle reading Overlord anymore by volume 9 I stopped. Here? Here I can still relate to the MC and can still keep reading. I'll probably stop if this MC becomes something I can't connect with.
  3. World building was not the greatest, but the author did enough to not leave me completely going "WTF, why didn't they address this issue or that issue?" The author in one of the chapters actually has the MC and his minions go over the nitty gritty of the problems that crop up when you try to make reforms on a fantasy medieval society. Score points for world building in my book.
  4. The support characters do get time to shine and stand out. Some are well done that I feel for them and their issues that come up. Others will need screen time before I can recognize them. Oh well. It happens in all books.
  5. The MC and Gang is OP. But seriously the story is built well enough that I can feel the drama and issues still crop up.
Give it a whirl. If you can't stand it by chapter 10, you... more>> should skip this. But if you can get past the 10 chapters. It is a good light novel overall.

I like how the hero doesn’t ty to be a virg*n when surrounded by beautiful women. However the story is just too childish. There’s no suspense or planning. The hero just sits on his ass when he could unite the world overnight. There’s no threat at all and most chapters are about trivial matters.

Get the feeling author took massive inspiration from the Overlord novel and decided to create his own relaxing kind of story. Unlike Overlord who has a darker kind of vibe with complicated politics and world building, this novel is little more colorful and easy going. Some plotholes but which wn isn't like that (even Overlord WN was terrible unlike the LN). If you are looking to pass the time, then this one is just for you. Just don't think too much.

As the other reviewers said it's kinda similar to Overlord (but please don't expect for those behind the scenes plots that are happening there). Well from what I can see from the novel, the novel more focused on world building and the leisurely route rather than a in depth portrayal like what happened on Overlord.

So to those who liked OP MC who never hides his real strength and a fast pace story telling you guys might enjoy this too.

Overlord ripoff....... Or so I thought. The writing is lacking, as expected of Web novel... Hey, it's not a final product like Overlord Light Novel version...

At first, it gave the impression like what said in the beginning, but then, you can easily distinguish which is which, so yes, it's not a ripoff. Alas, the support characters gave the impression of total 2D, but I, overall, I'd give this novel a green light...

The whole concept of this novel is great, being the same as Overlord but having a righteous main character instead of a dark one.

But this novel suffers from the amateurish storytelling and writing. The author has a good idea of how the story should progress but the way it is executed feel rushed and forced, and ultimately lacking in immersion.

Worse part is, the author seems to be fan of the bad japanese clichés, with a dense MC being clueless or acting clueless most of the time. Then some annoying characters... more>> will appear and the MC just take the shits they throw at him while scolding his companions for getting ticked off by the annoying characters for throwing those shits at him, like seriously?

The author make the MC appear smart and mature at times but s*upid, clueless, and naive most of the time. It's like the author can't decide what personality he'll give the MC. <<less

I dont want to sound mean but I really dont get how some readers like this novel. Its basically a rip off version ot Overlord but a lot worse. In overlord Ains is OP with a bit of arrogance and dominance which is what we want in a novel where MC is portrayed in an unknown world. But this novel? The MC is so submissive that I get so irritated all the time. He's even a goody goody with no balls, basically everything a leader you dont want to be... more>> despite being OP. If you build a kingdom with that type of MC it would end up getting destroyed either internally or externally. There's even no justice for the title "strongest guild master". <<less

Terrible, boring and immature. A plot of exhibitionism that comes to cause shame in others. It seems that it was written by a boy who wanted his boring life to be different and similar to the world of Overlord. None of the characters appears to have any development, maturity or even any more relevant importance in the plot than just being superficial. The MC is just there to be admired and deified, the male characters who are not the MC are just there to be comic relief or to show... more>> how much they are inferior to the MC, the female characters are just there to be v*ginas at the MC's disposal. And the antagonists, these are the characters with the most depressing construction, everyone must be s*upid and self-centered to the level that borders on unreality.

In addition, the work has not only a premise similar to the one we see in Overlord. The author takes many events that happen in Overlord, changes a few things and sincerely believes that no one will notice plagiarism. There is even a character who forces nobles from another region to kneel in the presence of the MC, using only his voice power.

I stopped in chapter 50, because I could not take this show of shame of others in the fifth category. <<less

For me the novel is nether good or bad, there was potentiel but the author didn't managed to use this potential :-/

The bases are there but that's all, nothing is really explained.

Exemple:

Spoiler

We know levels exist and the MC sometimes tell "oh this magic skill needs at least a level 50 to be used" and some other similar stuffs but we don't know his own or his compagons levels yet (and I'm at the very start of the final arc)... There isn't even an analysing skill which is weird for a game character

[collapse]

Spoiler

the people from this world use other magic skills than the MC & cie and thus he decided quite early to research these (and he said that each time he saw someting which wasn't in the game) , but till now nothing was done nor even explained

[collapse]

Spoiler

never let the author do politics, almost nothing is logic on that part. Be it from the behavior of the dirigents to their interaction with each other. Think about a classroom in which the kings, emperors and other big shots are students and it's almost the same, you have the bully and his group, the otaku and his weird group, the popular people who are friends with everyone, the bullied group... The author even regularly misunderstand noble titles :-/

[collapse]

Last of my few exemples

Spoiler

the MC is just having things too easy thanks to plot armor.... The MC litterally gained 3 vassal countries because he is an apostle of god (aka a gamer) the 1st one because the king venered apostled of the past and always wanted to be a subordinate of such an apostle. And the other two because they are descendants of the subordinates of a previous apostle. (well, one of this country, the less interested in joining the MC was saved from an evil god capable of destroying the world who appeared less than 30 min after the MC went in this country and just after meeting the not interested ruler)

Then the author finally understood that the MC had it too easy from the start (he became the leader of 3/4 of the world in half a year if not less...) (and I don't even speak about his catastrophic gestion of his kingdom which have surprisingly almost zero negative after effect ?) and thus for the last chapter he decided to make the last big power of this world being manipulated by another apostle of god..... And this other apostle of god took 5 YEARS to barely control one country when 3 countries surrendered to the MC after an 1 encounter just because he is an apostle.... And it's not like this other apostle remained in the shadow since he clearly established a religion base on himself... It just made me drop...

[collapse]

Unfortunately there are a lot of other forgotten explanation or somwhat wtf moments but it was a nice read (I rated 3/5 without taking the last arc into mind) What I recommand for this last arc is to not read it but to imagine what should have happened

if the big foe wasn't an apostle

I can not say anything about whether or not this story is good. I can not say whether or not the characters are interesting or if the world is well fleshed out. This novel has a much more fundamental problem that is sure to sap any enjoyment that could possibly be gained from reading this. And that problem is that this novel is machine translated. And BADLY machine translated with little to no proofreading or editing.

I wasn't able to get through a single chapter before I started to feel a... more>> headache come on due to the horrible writing. After that I skimmed through the first few chapters, barely able to understand what was being said before jumping about 50 chapters forward. I kept doing this until I reached the end, I did not read enough of each chapter I skipped to to know what was going on, but rather was simply checking if the writing/editing gets better. It did not. Do yourself a favor, and read something else. <<less
