Another assassin transmigrated shoujo novel. sigh*

Why oh why...

this starting to give me an image that all MC in shoujo novels are venomous, full of hatred for revenge, or full of schemes...

that would ended up suddenly (probably) become docile and meek like a lamb after they have a boyfriend/husband...

Edit// I read up to date (currently c146) just to make sure I wasn't being hasty, and I stand by my initial opinions.

Honestly I'm not sure what to say... I try to give at least 10 chapters before I really judge whether I like a story or not, but I've read 32 chapters in and feel like I've just wasted my time. 32 chapters might not seem like enough considering these chapters are fairly short, but I don't think I'll be continuing this... Maybe if I'm super desperate.

I rated 2... more>> stars because it's not "get this thing out of my sight" terrible, but also doesn't have anything redeemable enough to break into "average-normal" 3 stars territory.

Pros:

... Are there any?? Fast translation maybe.

Cons (this might get lengthy) :

- Plot

It started off kinda interesting, where MC is in a perilous situation and has to find a way out of it. But honestly, 30 chapters in and it's downhill... Author, are you underestimating the intelligence levels of your audience?

I mean, I'm an easily pleased reader. Give me something interesting and I'll go on auto mode and won't complain. But the plot armor and the scheming is just not up to snuff. Basically, the IQ and abilities of everyone else is lowered to make the MC look good. Add in some ass-pull abilities/luck-logic to grant to the MC so she can get things done quick and easy, and that's basically how all the conflicts have been resolved so far.

- Writing

Another issue in itself is the writing. Don't get me wrong, the translations are ok (tho I can't really say anything since I don't know Chinese). But this author is a classic case of "Tell, don't Show."

Spoiler

There is a part in ch 30 or something where the author entirely glosses over the matter of MC finally getting some maid servants from her evil stepmom.

She weeds out the spy using a trick and punishes her severely and sells her away. She presents the evidence to her father too so her stepmom can't say anything about it. Then she proceeds to use some psychological mojo on her other servants to make them paranoid that they'll be ratted out if they're a spy, and they end up coming out to her themselves...

Mine is a little more summarized, but that is practically what you get in the actual text.

[collapse]

Definitely one of the least well-written works I've read of this genre... The chapters are short as well, and the pacing is downright horrible. Is the author a newbie at this or something? To be honest, I found myself laughing out loud at how ridiculously cliché the story developed at numerous intervals.

- Characters

These characters are about as original as a mass produced popsicle stick.

It's been 30 chapters and all I've seen is a Mary Sue MC, a typical cold and ruthless ML (presumably), your typical "I don't care" Dad who hates MC because of her mother and cuz she's tr*sh, a scheming step mom-daughter duo who are white lotus b*tches, an idiot Prince who wants to break the engagement with MC cuz he's sleeping with her sister, and this perfect (?) nice guy Prince who's probably more than he seems and has already taken a liking to MC (but why) but will probably fade out later anyways. Everywhere I look, it's cookie cutter, cookie cutter, cookie cutter...

It's fine to use tropes, but with nothing original or with no good writing, how are you supposed to capture your audiences' attention??? How are you supposed to stand out from all the other generic stories already out there that you're taking tropes from??? I honestly don't understand why this has reviews with 5 stars????

I mean, you can tell me that I need to read more, or that it gets more interesting later on... But honey, it's been 30 CHAPTERS. I think I've got a good grip on the author's writing style by now, and it's just not cutting it...

If you're desperate for a generic genius female assassin transmigrates into tr*sh young Miss who is hated by her family and rises to kick ass and make everyone worship her/take revenge, then this might be for you. But seriously, this feels like one of the lower quality ones... There are better ones waiting to be read out there. <<less

*Look at Description* Follow Gu Xijiu on her journey to discover her one true love!

*Look at Tags* r*pe

You can recognize your one true love when they r*pe you.

... more>> (Fully intend to read and then re-review. Not a good first impression but I enjoy cultivation stories.)

Edit: As of chapter 56, the only r*pe has been in the first few chapters of a random nobody. If this story needs the r*pe tag, most of the cultivation stories need a r*pe tag.

Very not into of the main characters being r*ped. So with that sorted out, so far it just seems like a typical Transmigrated Female Assassin MC. Not enough has happened to see if there are any unique points. <<less

A terribly written story but the translation is good if you ignore them trying to cover up untranslatable Chinese titles with misleading and truly out of place titles. When the current wife of General Gu was calling her husband 'mister' over and over again like a British paper boy I cringed. But I was able to ignore it since it was just a translation quirk and not actually the plot. But the Main Character was just so poorly written that I could not continue reading.

You have a foolish but trying... more>> to look cool and smart but failing Female Main Lead, the atypical I am cold-hearted but so good looking Male Lead, and a mirage of other characters who fit perfectly in their roles. Only for these characters to be made to look even tr*shier due to the Female lead being so s*upid, they needed to increase her chance of looking smart but this only made the other characters personality traits become misleading or nonsense.

The face-slapping scenes are so easily solved in no time flat and no one comes out on top you don't get any satisfaction from the MC getting back at the evil "insert trope here" characters. There was no smart reply or contradictions used to trap the characters into ruining themselves. She instead just throws out such simple logic you just wonder how s*upid the previous body was.

Spoiler

The stepmother was feeding the MC moldy bread. But the stepmother is not smart enough to come up with a reason why, instead the stepmother's own daughter has to save her. Her daughter's brilliant plan... blame it on the servants.

[collapse]

Spoiler

They introduced the fourth prince as "Rong Chu's had a very good personality and reputation too." Only to later find him threatening a young boy in public and describing him as "Rong Chu was famous with his ruthlessness, plus, he was monstrous as well - killing anyone who offended him." I fail to see how a person who kills people just for offending them has a good personality.

[collapse]

There are many more descriptions of scenes that didn't make any sense or escalated to a point were everyone looked silly for making such a fuss.

Spoiler

The auction scene was truly the nail in the coffin for this story. Her reason for going inside... "Gu Xijiu wanted to take a look and see if she could earn more money somehow." But her every thought and action was more towards wanting to spend money then earn it. She didn't analyze anything or plot how she was going to earn money. When she was hastily given money by prince Rong Che instead of worrying if she would be able to pay him back or if he wanted some kind of favor in return for leading her money... "She told herself that she would try to return the money to Rong Che in due time and felt that based on her abilities, it would not have been that difficult to do so." She was worried about earning 150, 000 So she came to auction house to figure out how to earn money but is positive with her abilities she can earn money to pay back 500, 000. So her reason for entering the auction house is now void *facepalms*.

The fact that the Female lead was disguised as a male was so pointless. the author jumped back in forth between the two gender profiles that it became impossible to keep track of who had discovered that she is Female or who perceived her as Male. One minute pointing out how wonderful her disguising ability is that no one would recognize her as female. Only to later hear that person found her male form to be very feminine to point of even question if she was male or female. Chapter 45 and 46 even made it sound like she wasn't even wearing a disguise anymore. A random stranger referred to her as "little Sister" even though she was disguised as a Male. She didn't even correct him about her gender the whole conversation that they had, that it felt like she was either too s*upid to attempt keeping her gender hidden are just didn't care that people saw through her disguise.

[collapse]

The way the Main Character acted it felt like she was trying to be one of those cool reborn characters that could seamlessly integrate herself into a new world but instead she came off as a bumbling fool that you kept asking in the back of your mind. "Why did you even try using your old world logic in a new world?"

I'm giving it 2 stars because it grasped my attention long enough for me read up to at least chp. 47 and skip around the other chapter searching for something redeeming. <<less

i don't advise you to read this novel because I found it very bad, I had to force myself to read and I reach my limit a 200+ chapter

first the MC, she is an assassin blabla, so she can kill highter martial artist with her skill even if her body is a tr*sh, it's ok. But she can still teleport out of nowhere whith no explanation

second the ML of her previous life find the MC direcctly even if their path never cross, he pop out of nowhere and knew it's... more>> her

third the story and plot happen very fast and are solve even faster with no development at all and despite this the story don't progress or very slowly, it's very boring. And there are a lot of confusion in the story, + tiny thing who pull you out of the story, like the money they use, dollars f*cking dollars.

the only positive point I found is the way the MC's father react when he find out his daughter was bullied contrary to all the other reinncarnation novel where their father don't give a shit <<less

Didn't expect to love it. But I do! The ML (I suspect he will be the one) is awesome! There is teleportation on top of other usual transmigration arc. So far FL has been getting the upper hand! Translation is good too.

The synopsis is lacking. In fact, I read it even though the synopsis didn't interest me.

FL is a assassin/doctor from the future/other world. She is killed by the man she loves and hopes to marry (fiancée is incorrect as they haven't really talked about it). He kills her to... more>> get her heart for his other love (?) - her sister (?). During the heart extraction, she wakes up as the anesthesia doesn't work on her and manages to kill him and herself. She wakes up just as she is about to fall into a trap set by fiancé and sister in the new world. She manages to escape and meets who I think is the ML on the way. There are some funny scenes. She makes it back in time and her revenge resumes. She is an assassin and good at disguise. She has a bunch of adventure. And oh, there is an interesting gadget too - which may even qualify for a pet.

I feel story is a bit slow because the author took time for character development. I loved reading 205 chapters in one go. I am now trying to accumulate chapters to read. <<less

The translator is doing a good job but the story is not worth it. MC is typical assassin/mary-sue thrown into tr*sh re-incarnation with all the fixings (wicked step-family, worthless/uncaring dad, fiance that wants to toss her to the side... oh! and there is a OP tool/power-up; can't wait for the usual mystical pet to show up) ~^-^~ Reverse harem as usual just coz and if this hasnt gotten formulaic by now.... argghhh the chapters are short as hell but TL speed is amazeballs. This is not exactly wipe my ass... more>> worthy but pretty close <<less

I normally don't write reviews this early in a series, but it irritates me when a decent series gets a bunch of low scores with no explanations.

While this story has the basic trope of amazing assassin transmitigates to tr*sh, the translation is good, the world building is decent, and characters are interesting. So the only reasons I can see for the low review is the supremely awful summary (meaning they didn't read the story) or that it is a qidian release (enough said). Both of those are not good... more>> enough to throw a so far decent story under the bus.

At the moment I am giving it 4 stars cus it shows promise, I may latter give it a low score if it truely is that bad, but for now it is still too early to tell. <<less

Very dull and repetitive to the point where not even the ever-present comedy can do much about it.

I have to admit I couldn't get myself to finish this novel, and believe me I tried. The premise in itself is interesting, nothing new but interesting nonetheless, the problem is anything beyond that is just incredibly boring and repetitive, save for the occasional joke and comedic encounter.

The fact that the main character acts more like a h**ny teen than the cold-blooded professional assassin she is supposed to be, and many other... more>> consistency details the author seems to forget about immediately can be attributed to the novel being a comedy (more like a parody) and thus forgiven, but being incapable of moving forward with the plot for hundreds of chapters at a time can't.

The main problem comes from the love triangle the main character has with the two male leads of the novel. This is very common in these types of stories and is usually what drives the plot forward. In this case, it stops the story in place without any reason to.

The main character goes on a date or simply encounters one of the suitors in some embarrassing, funny situation. The other suitor becomes jealous and drags the main character on another date with him, which in turn makes the first suitor jealous, dragging the main character on yet another date, thus starting a never-ending cycle of repetitiveness. If this were to at least serve to advance their relationship with the main character it might have some meaning, but in most cases, it doesn't, just happening for the sake of raising the word-count. <<less

I rarely bother to write reviews but I have to say that this novel really got on my nerves and now I am really regretting it. I don't know how I managed to read more than 1500 chapters.I am sorry but actually I don't recommend this novel but if you want to test your patience then go ahead. I usually read a novel to its end but it was just too annoying the FL and ML had zero trust for each other always hiding things and there was always unnecessary... more>> misunderstandings between them. And I felt that the FL became dumb and dumb she would actually believe her ex lover?? Who actually tried to harm her again and again rather than trust her fiance. And what's with the soul leaving the body the FL changes her body like she's changing clothes. I felt that this novel was more like a novel based on modern society like there were just too many things that is impossible to be in the ancient times and even if a modern person really time travelled they are not capable to make the things mentioned in the novel. But the most annoying part of this novel is those villans like literally it got on my nerves the villans literally had no way of escape and they were doomed to die but no the author just let them go. And it happened for 2 times there was just no satisfying villans end. I am really regretting now and even when I think about it now it gets on my nerves. <<less

Very entertaining. Solid and badass female lead. Straight-to-the-gut honest. She came. She saw. She f*cking ruled. From the first moment she arrived, she held the reins and never let go, not even for the male lead who's stronger and more powerful than she is. Sure she needs to be "rescued" once in a while but that's not in the context of weakness though. More a leadership thing because men are drawn to her against their will. She's very different from other women in the novel who are illustrious but need... more>> a man's pen*s to validate their strength. It's like I'm this beautiful, powerful woman who can spin the world faster than Superman can but I still need a man's protection, even if I end up as his concubine, to make me happy. Puhlez. Get yourself a giant bong, why don't you? Anyway, MC is not like that, thank the author. She's brave, callous, and primed for battle. I don't know about the succeeding chapters though. I've read the spoilers but the fact that she could tell the guy to go f*ck himself while she was dying really says something about the character. You hurt me? Then you're gonna pay. Next reincarnation, you're gonna beg me until your knees bleed and I might not even want you back anymore. Go f*ck a rat, you loser. What. A. Woman. <<less

So I came in with low expectations, and about 100 chapters in, my low expectations did not disappoint me. I would not recommend this novel if you are looking for something extremely clever and deep. This is just not it.

Alright, now that the disclaimers are out, I must say this novel is quite the surprise. I won't lie, I was really kind of pushing myself to read the early chapters. Everything was so basic, the translation was not as tasteful, it was just so expected. But somehow I got a... more>> laugh here and there so I decided to push through.

It did not get drastically better, but the humor somehow catches me unprepared at times. Our MC is strong at the start of the novel, but really after a while her strength plateaus. What she has is her cunning mind and experience as a mercenary/assassin. Her character struggles with the concept of love and relying on other men, but somehow the ML is... so damn persistent. She is cute when she is drunk haha.

As for the ML, my initial problem with him was how fast his character falls for (gets interested) in the MC. First, he wants to kill her and then like a few chapters in, he is intrigued and protects her. But once you get over how absurd all that is, his character is hilarious. Proud, aloof, cold but also a big big bully. The way he pursues our MC is... fun (literally, those scenes usually get either a giggle or a smile).

If you push through, this could be a fun relaxing read of crazy interactions. They move out of the whole family politics pretty dang fast. In fact, a big chunk of this novel is almost just MC and ML. There are also some different intrigues going on with the side characters that could be fun to read.

Translation quality is alright, worth a shot if you have time and you are willing to push through the muck. <<less

Good, flows quickly. It helps if you allow a large number of chapters to stack up before reading (I read all 81 translated chapters in one seating) as they are brief. They are not as short as other similar stories, at least each chapter has something happening in addition to the dialogue.

The introduction might throw off readers but it is a nice change to see a MC that is immediately thrown into dire circumstances instead of waking up after the fact. In this case the MC woke up just in... more>> time to formulate an escape.

Story wise it isn't too distinct yet: you have the familiar super skilled woman thrown into a younger body of a bullied daughter, complete with a birthmark that mars her innate beauty. The basic background is established quickly: stepsisters, reluctant royal fiance, rival princes... There are a bevy of bishonen surrounding the MC's circumstances, each intrigued by the MC's skills and indifferent attitude.

Speaking of skills, don't take this story too seriously. I get the impression that the author tacks on more special powers whenever convenient, including teleportation and magical medical treatment. I categorize this sort of story that does what it needs to get the story flowing quickly without being too bogged down by details.

What kept me reading (other than the number of chapters already translated) was the ease of reading. The translation is not too awkward and flows nicely. It is definitely helps in an otherwise retread of an often told scenario. <<less

At first I read this up to 200 chapters and I found it very mediocre but I just continued reading out of boredom. Who knew that the plot became sooo interesting later on. I even forgot that I didn't want to continue reading this in the first place. This novel has been added to one of my favorite ones. There are so many scenarios in the later chapters that would really make you get so deep into your emotions and I doubt you'll stop reading. Don't mind the first chapters,... more>> just think of it as the beginning and an introduction since the plot has barely even started. I am currently at chapter 1826, read it on chinesewuxia. Com and I literally can't wait for the next chapters.

And by the way, I don't even know why they put the r*pe tag on especially when it never even happened to the main character. I was overthinking and already placed my mind on hating the guy but oh well. Maybe it's a good thing. I think that even if you take the tag off, it wouldn't make a difference cause it would just make others be skeptical to read it thinking that it has a huge impact to the romance of the story when infact it's not.

Anyway I really really can't wait for the next chapters. I hope they translate another few chapters later on since they've uploaded 3 chapters today already. I am just selfishly craving for more. <<less

Welp I'm at lost to say anything good for this book/story/novel/whatever... I tried to read whole-heartedly but sadly I could never do it, the story has nothing such as a strong plot, full of potholes which make it even worse. Not mention bunch of nonsense, like how she can teleport etc. No nothing out the blue she teleported, seriously?! I would have bought it if it said its her innate talent syit or something, but it clearly stated that the person MC reincarnated to is a total tr*sh.

The plots tends... more>> develop rapidly and ends up abruptly, sometimes it would be dragged long with nothing much interesting going on. MC reincarnated and so does her foe (s), lover bla bla bla. Oddly, the so called MC's past lover/nemesis reincarnated in the same world but a bit earlier (I think), magically appeared and confidently revealed who the real MC is. Nothing investigation, nothing plot identifying, nothing at all just 'pooof' "I know who you are!!"

I really just skimmed trough and skipped few chapters to get to where I finally give up totally. I read up to chapter 200 something to finally *ugh what the heck, let just fast forward, I'm confused with the story anyways, that guy took this dude body, that girl is a reincarnated person too, that dude has dual identity, another person has two souls in one body, wth, lol, nothing make much sence, well it would if explanations given or told, unfortunately, this book lack of that alot. By the way is this transmigration stuffs or reincarnations??! I'm sure it was said a reincarnation, anywoo this story really is confusing <<less

This novel is very good. What an interesting read! I admire MC a lot, she is very smart and likable. Male lead, on the other hand, is mysterious and charming.

I've been reading this in Chinese and only glanced over the initial Webnovel chapters for a quick comparison of translation quality.

On the translation:

It's not that great... The translation is fairly clunky and looks a bit headachey to read at a glance. Judging by the chapter titles and glancing at the snippets of the most recent chapters, the translation makes the language much more awkward than it is in the original. Not that the original novel is a literary masterpiece, but the translation doesn't look up to par with the original.

On... more>> the novel:

This is a romance novel in a mixed fantasy/sci-fi setting. The reason to read this novel is the MC/ML's relationship, rather than politics, adventure, fighting, cultivation, etc.

If you're interested in politics and inner courtyard scheming, this is not the novel for you. The author isn't good at writing that stuff. She doesn't spend that much time on it, but this novel is really long and takes a while to get going. I wasn't especially interested in this novel until MC started trying to escape the ML dragging her back to do a life-threatening trial, which I think is 100-odd chapters into the story. The only reason I didn't initially give up was because the introduction of the MC was quite different compared to your standard transmigration novel-- MC starts the novel by kicking ass, rather than getting her ass kicked. However, the initial depiction of the MC is completely different than what she actually is.

Spoiler

The initial depiction of the MC is that she's kind of liberal who's very experienced in life-- she doesn't blink at s*x, she feels up the ML and talks to him flirtatiously (although she thinks he's a statue at the time), she previously had an affair with her commander in her last life, etc. Then later she's turned into this innocent little white flower who doesn't understand love and never even kissed anyone until ML stole her first kiss. Seems like the author couldn't make up her mind about what kind of person the FL was supposed to be.

That initial depiction seemed pretty different from your typical pure and good Mary Sue who's never been touched by a man. But nope, MC is your standard MC.

[collapse]

Like a lot of light romance webnovels, this novel is full of plot holes, not especially well-written villains, and things that don't make sense when you think about it. Like your typical light romance webnovel, it includes a lot of really annoying love rivals. However, the author does do a good job of pulling heartstrings with the MC/ML's relationship. The whole 'will they or won't they' thing gets dragged out to the extreme and at certain points, the story gets pretty tragic in a good way. In addition, the world is a little different compared to your standard fantasy story-- there's some sci-fi stuff that makes the story a bit more fun and interesting. I'd give it a solid 3/5 if you can dedicate the time to reading it.

This story probably should not be tagged as a tragedy. There are tragic moments but the author has written several notes about not being a tragedy writer. <<less
