When the last prodigy level esper on Earth disappeared, Earth was in deep trouble of becoming another species’ colony. The ordinary Han, with his intelligence and hardworking character, was able to make a fortune after “accidentally” stepping into the world of dark net, later purchasing an esper power crystal that brought him the ultimate power that changed the fate of the universe.

Dark net is a subset of the Deep Web that is not only not indexed by traditional search engines, but that also requires special tools like specific proxy or authentication to gain access. Dark net is not restricted by any law or morals, so the dark net market has everything that is prohibited by the law. Drugs, s*aves, firearms, uranium, bioweapons, rare animals, human testing, assassination, and the list goes on. During the year of 2075 on Earth, Han Lang logged into the largest hyperspace dark net market, and our story begins.

I like sci-fi, and there are a lot of unique and interesting ideas in this story, but I also find it deeply flawed from a logical perspective, so much that it made me stop reading.

I still give it 4* for the benefit of doubt (and because I rated similar novels the same), but maybe I ought to increase my standards.

Things that bothered me:

Spoiler
  • The earth faces doom, but most citizens don't care. There is no social unrest. Just compare this to the Corona pandemic and the scramble for vaccines
  • Super-powers can be transferred and extracted/stolen. The SSS-grade Void's End is one of the best abilities in the whole galaxy. It should at-least hold high research value.
    • Super-powers are easily detected in the virtual space. Both the earthen military/gouvernment and the galactic meetup super-visors know about the MC's ability
      • Why does the military choose to ignore the MC? Just because of his low growth rate?
      • Why is the MC not turned into a lab-rat
      • Why is the MC not abducted/sold to some galactic super-power
      • Why is the MC not assassinated? The previous owner of his power was deeply hated, and Espers can grow very old.
  • Why is there no privacy? Literally everyone can watch what the MC does, there are recordings everywhere
  • Why is there no secrecy? The first thing that military guys usually do is stamp a big "top secret" on their meal receipts, but this story has municipal "directors" decide the fate of the world
  • The galaxy is described as a scary place, but most of the time everyone just acts like a hot-headed fool.
    • The story is very black and white
      • In case of doubt, the Chinese are superior
    • The MC turns from someone who doesn't care into a defender of justice in twenty chapters
      • There is absolutely no character development
      • The MC is just superior (without explanation)
  • There are lots of "useless" super-powers, like growing teeth and being good at maths.
    • And literally no one before the MC in the _whole_ universe decided to compile some darknet-index? Yah..
  • The MC is in coma, his darknet-pal sents him twelve doses of the most advanced drug, but no one becomes greedy?!
    • Furthermore, they examine the doses and sent their research to some random superpower?! Which in turn also doesn't get greedy.
    • This also means that there should only be eleven doses available anymore
    • Overall, in this story naivete doesn't get punished
  • Space pirates should be more skilled than raiders, not the other way around. A planet is big and stable, everyone can easily adapt to it. Just compare this to naval combat. Marines can easily replace foot-soldiers, but not every foot-soldier can be a marine.

I was looking forward to a sci-fi story but this was not it.

This was a wuxia story masked as a sci-fi. The author kept trying to tell us how awesome MC is, instead of showing. And every other character besides MC is just used to buff MC.

It was also racist and mysogynistic.

All in all; a standard, cliche wuxia novel. Did not like it.

2.5 stars, I rate 2 stars since it's closer to 2 then 3

This novel is a story about our world that has entered the galactic era and ended finding out that we live among powerful nations. There are espers with abilities and spaceship. The MC got power by accidents and try to save the world from being eaten by the jungle law.

The story has potential in my mind, and as we go deeper there are more intricates layer surrounding the MC outside of the space battle and esper fight. Alas... more>> I can't finish the novel, it's boring.

Some minor stuffs:

- The novel is full of patriotic/brotherly/tough guy cringey moments, it happens a lot of time that it makes me question if I judge human kind the wrong way lol.

- the author can not scheme, so the characters inside also cannot scheme, most interactions and confrotation is pretty straight forward that it's kinda funny when the author potray it as scheming.

Now the major stuffs, well there is only one. The battle...

It's an action novel, so battle is everywhere, but it's boring and that's what makes me drop this novel.

The MC is supposed to have this awesome sss power, but guess what? It's useless when it comes down to the wire.

Spoiler

you'd think that there is some kind of mana that espers can use and the MC can cancel it, but no, void end can only affect humanoid and doesn't affect 'internal' power. But then everyone is strong and fast which is ok at the beginning, but after MC got darkpower, still the same thing, everyone one is strong and fast

[collapse]

Most fights are repetitive, joker cards (the same joker card) are used to have sudden power up, MC will barrage the enemy with minor annoying things, and the MC will plough through with 'tough bone' mentality.

As time goes by it becomes too boring for me. The story also gets too wild later on that it totally deviates the goal at the beginning without even seeing the climax of that goal.

Pretty dissapointing tbh, i've been looking for modern world background xianxia and few are worthy. This novel rate 2.5 stars, though I see a lot of people complained about the ending that I didn't read, which can make this 2 stars <<less

I enjoyed the story for what it was but my good did the story completely drop the ball in those few recent chapters I read. I will give a comparison. Image a world like the one shown in Mass Effect, we have a major build up of reaper like threat that is coming to conquer all... they finally arrive 300 chapters in... and then random events happen in less than 3 chapters and entire threat is gone!!!!

True that threat wasn't the main focus of the story BUT, it was a... more>> major part of it and yet it was randomly dealt! Worse of all MC didn't even participate in it at all. It really is extremely random without any kind of foreshadowing and without MC being present at all. He barely managed to get there when everything was already done and no wonder because this GREAT THREAT OF AN ANCIENT RACE was dealt within 10 minutes of random things being happening.

Overall the story has been alright up to this point and therefore the reason I give it three but after what happen just now! Damn it is bad!!! <<less

interesting premise ruined by contradictory events. pre chapter 10 it was stated that a lot of espers, even those working for the police forces, were selfish individuals. suddenly comes chapter 15 where everyone is a motherf*cking martyr. then this han kid who just 2 days ago was a normal guy suddenly becomes smarter and more battle oriented than trained soldiers in the monk and fatso. I can believe a talented guy in stories but this crosses the line where the author tries to make him great by making everyone look... more>> like shit. if im not mistaken they were having their meal near the esper authority building. I imagine such a building would have enough security to have responded to such a crisis... all in all if this story keeps making the background look like sh*t just to put the MC on a pedestal then id recommend others to just skip it. its okay reading if theres nothing else but in any other serious medium, I dont think this wouldve gotten any traction.

it also seems like the deeper you get the more 'Chinese' the morals get in the sense that the MC can do no wrong. An MC being in a moral gray area or even a darker area is fine but this is just silly. <<less

I realy like this story. It's only sad that the Autor is rushing the story way to Hard and the MC is getting to strong to fast would the story and especially the end not be so rushed I would gave 5/5 stars but its sad that there is no good end and the Autor stopped the story way to soon It's realy sad that the potential has not been exhausted.

The novel starts amazingly. If you're able to ignore inconsistencies then this novel is great! I was hooked until around chapter 130-40, which was when the inconsistencies started piling up.

The MC is hard working and quick learning. Though I wouldn't say smart. The author tries to push that onto us, but the MC doesn't act smart at all. His method of fighting is either a) throw tons of items at the guy while standing at the back or b) swinging sword constantly while having no defense. There isn't any clever... more>> planning, despite what the author may say.

The powers are greatly inconsistent as well, at least his is. Sometimes it says no one can sense when he uses his ability, and other times it says that his power is used as a signal to attack. Wth?

The side characters are pretty good.

The science isn't over explained, which is nice.

Read it. <<less

Their's lot of good reviews so I keep my review about how I feel about it.

It has been a good story but it feels like I'm losing my rational world view the more I read. It's also kindda irritating to see lot of mindless side characters. Though they might not amount to much in novels, the world is basically viewed of how they act. And I feel all character is important no matter how small it last (At least give them some human level intelligence).. This world is all about... more>> MC and his bragging.. So the world is not for me <<less

Starts off nice and interesting, quickly goes downhill as the entire universe bends over to give free powerups to the MC and only the MC.

Also concepts and ideas the MC comes up with are constantly praised and presented as amazing.... but they're so blatantly simple, in the entire earth, only he can come up with that? really?

Dropped at roughly the point where he randomly falls into a hole and gets free junk worth 2 months of the entire earth's income. Skimmed through a bit further and its just constantly the... more>> MC showing off and literally being the only person on earth with the ability to do anything.

Cannot recommend this to anyone that likes stories to make some amount of sense. <<less

I enjoyed the novel so far. At least, I do not see repetition seen in most novel. The novel supposes to be sci-fi, but I rarely feel the sci-fi gene in this novel.

To make it worse, the translator did a very bad job, the terms, the number, the name have been changed many times, I feel like the translator is not fluent in Chinese and he uses machine translation to translate, and not carefully edit the translation. Example, at one time, the earth's population is 150 millions and other time... more>> 15 billion. This kind of confusing number is all over the place, especially when the number is high. (If you use machine translation before, you should understand that). One of the important character was named Ke Larke (which would probably be Clark considering that he is American). The name Ke Larke was used in the entire translation, I only realized it is Clark in chapter 125 when both Ke Larke and Clark were used in the same chapter, and one line away from each other.

I would give this novel a 4 stars if not because of the bad translation. <<less

I had to ask "Why don't they just shoot him?" too many times for me to give it a rating above a three.

This novel can't decide whether it wants to have a SF focus or a cultivation focus, and it waffles back and forth. People descend from their spaceships to attack on foot with melee weaponry, rather than fire from relative safety. Sure, guns are less effective against espers, but heavy caliber guns aren't. The moment they realize "Oh, he has a knife and a power nullifier field" you'd have... more>> to be the dumbest pirate in the world not to calmly pull out guns. It's even said in the story that nukes are still used, which makes it kind of weird that the power of one esper is so valued. Sure, they're tough, but if the enemy fields thirty level ten billion espers, you're just going to nuke them. The settings just don't blend well.

That said, it's not terrible. There are plot holes, but I don't hate the main character or the setting. The theme is decidedly HFY, but it doesn't grate too much. Earth is something of a backwater, and needs to earn rewards by producing powerful Espers. Apparently, that's how planetary governments get spaceships - they WIN them - but I'm fine with ignoring that.

It's just... meh. There's a decent romance option, but I'm finding it hard to get past the multiple questions piling up in my head. <<less

I personally think this novel is good. The only thing I find hard to believe is the intense communism moments that happen, but that might be normal... they literally fling themselves to death.

You also don't have to worry about hearing robots beating the crap out of each other too. I haven't been a fan of sci-fi before this since I just felt like it wasn't good. But that was completely wrong and I had a great time reading this.

"Galactic dark net" - Of course, when you first hear it you would expect some sort of intelligent protagonist that gets involved in hacking, cracking, stealing confidential information and so on. Well, you get quite disappointed once you see the direction it took instead. Even so, its not like the entire story went down the drain. We still get some quality material from the author, even though his work feels a little bland. Especially the prologue that should give a little tension to the reader which instead bores the hell... more>> out of him.

Anyway, the story is about fighting. Fighting against other species that try to control most of the universe resources. Fighting against monster in some kind of planetary dungeons to obtain some ancient weaponry. And then fighting against a secret and hidden enemy that only a secret few know about it. That's most of the story. We have a love interest created quite well. Its not annoying or overly attached and gives the protagonist the space needed to develop in silence. The present world is.. Well, a little comical. We see how the leaders of the MC's world cry crocodile tears each time some human with a vague ability sacrifices himself while spouting some nonsense about how human should be united, how everyone has the responsibility to protect the entire humanity and so on. It gives a weird propaganda feeling, the same you would see in north Korea. Anyway, the MC fights, and fights and fights. He becomes some sort of fighting machine thanks to the help of some mysterious mercenary veterans that he met using the galactic dark net. I'm still interested in how the story will develop at the moment, but I don't have high hopes. The MC seems to be protected way to well by his plot armor. If he encounters some real hardship later on, then the story would really shine. <<less

What is it with all these Xanxia writers? Most seem to have this idea that if it's a woman, then they must be weaker than the men and that they will fall in love straight away with someone strong? It seems this writer also believes only women cry? Perhaps a bit too much teenage wet dreams turnin up? I just hope all these Xanxia writers maturen sometime and learn that being a woman does not necessarily mean being weaker than the men. Anyway, enjoying the story, even with some morally dubious actions. Then again, if your planet/country is in danger of being ens*aved, you would most likely go to some grey areas of the psyche. Another reviewer pointed out that this looks like a Mass Effect type of verse. Akin to that genre, with all technology learned by raiding zones of technology left behind by a race that left 25, 000 years beforehand. The foreshadowing is what happens when that race come back to the Milky Way? No idea whether the original race were themselves superhuman or something else? The human race looks to have sprung up in various places around the Milky Way Galaxy, eventually evolving superpowers and called Espers and subjugating all other alien races. Earth humans are a recent addition in the last twenty years. So completely outgunned in technology. Earth Unified are playing catch up in super powered humans, technology and armaments. Hoping not to be quashed like a bug by the superpowerful Empires. Something like how the European invaders would have treated the Native people of what became known as North and South Americas.
Spoiler

Meta-humans are described as Espers and a few have powers that would not be all that different to those in comics like DC and Marvel. Unfortunately, Earth humans only have Espers occurring at one out of every 100, 000 persons. 100, 000+ out of the billions of Earth. Some can grow extra teeth or better ability at maths and only a few can be described at Omega Mutant or Superman levels.

[collapse]

At Chapter C166, the MC is just learning about the greater universe. Recommended read, just try to ignore the chauvinism.

A scifi/superhero type of novel. Rare when most translated novels are xianxia/xuanhuan. I find this novel to be a fresh breath. The pacing is fast and it reads like a DC/Marvel comic. I got hooked on it as it was so easy to get into the story. Another sci fi novel I read is Skyfire Avenue, but although it is good I find SA to be a bit slower in pace. GDN has a lot of action, super powers, space ship etc. I hope more people will discover this novel... more>> because it is such fun read. <<less

It's a novel that you should read!

There is good plot, with fine progress and definetly rich ideas. General plot: earth is in trouble, it's former hero lost. Many alien species exist, along with humans, those that have special power are called espers. In this chaotic time, Han who is a kid without any special power rises. And we see it through our own eyes as he moves to save his mother planet, Earth.

On the downside, the writing style of the author is consistent, if you are an observer you will... more>> find same type of statements here and there, also a lot of things are left with no details, for eg earth, in the period of chaos, it's all good, United and nobody is considering fleeing burn fighting to death. But these are very minor issues, definetly not worth dropping this novel, give it a try, you will like it very much. <<less

The story is quite entertaining and if you are into the Chinese style of writing web novels you should easily feel at home.
And even though I enjoyed reading most chapters there is a reason it is only a 3-star review. The story is interesting but the rest is just the typical Chinese writing. What others think great is annoying for me. It is not even necessary to write in the information that the novel is from China due to the following things:

Plot holes and logic flawes: There are so... more>> many things not completly thought through or just explained with narrow minded ideas. But that is a typical trait of this novels...

Black and White: What the MC says and does is always right and can be justified. Just cliched Xianxia...
The authors worldview: It is so obvious that this is another author who did not leave the country once. May it be due to the Chinese regulation, but the view on things is just distorted and far from reality, even though he could claim it's Fantasy. He is just projecting China into the order of the world-galaxy-universe. Bland...

Technical aspects: The technical, social or economical aspects feel like the ideas of a child. I really shouldn't think about it anymore...

The characters: Typical Xianxia. The MC is supposed to be intelligent, which only works out due to plot armor and the writing style. The sidekicks have that common ret*rded feel. Has more or less the quality of middle schoolers deciding the world fate while being awed by themself. And I can already guess the mc's development, from meek nobody to self-righteous mass mu*derer/killer machine. So cliched...

Well, there are more things. But I tried to not to think about it during reading time. It worked most of the time and I just skipped the really annoying/s*upid chapters. It is mostly enjoyable despite the flaws and bad writing style. Try it for yourself. <<less

I love it! No reason not to read it, its a non-standard xianxia, but well worth the read.

... But I got tough bones!
Once you get to the point where he has this sort of mindset, the story pretty much rolls from there. Gotta admit, other than some odd world building size issues, the world building is great. And gets even more odd and confusing later on but just as awesome, though my imagination kinda has to work to make up for the author at times.

minor gripe... more>>
Spoiler

The only thing that really upsets me is the teaser love story that mixes in, I mean it doesn't make alot of sense. Don't see why she would ever leave his side for long if the circumstances were similar. They make a semi cute couple, but it's like he seems disinterested after the first initial meeting, almost like he's just pulling a big brother (but badly)... It's a little annoying to see a lost opportunity by the author. as the MC seems to almost lose his personality during the later interludes between them, and I think its because the author doesn't want to have him point to anyone in the not even a real/pseudo harem he's written in. complete with a not-quite trap from a rich family... boils down to a waste of story, or waste of time
