With no free will, every world became a dead end. Each of his lives ended tragically.

Finally, after wrestling control of the Villain System, this ace hacker decided to enact revenge. Even if his very bones were rotten, he’d choose to occupy the very heights of morality, if only on the surface.

Thus, he would change his fate as an abused slag.

  1. Side effects of reading this:
    • You'll read it again and again and again.
    • You'll love all story arcs but secretly have favorite arcs that make your heart squeal.
    • You know the update schedule but check in everyday anyway... Just in case...
    • Your revenge aesthetic has leveled up. You will never be satisfied with common face slapping again. It's gotta make the soul hurt so bad you'll cry for days. Yup.
    • This is now your BL Bible.
    • UPDATES!? LOCK YOUR DOOR. HUSH THEM PHONES. SELL YOUR SOUL. GIVE THANKS TO KEZ-SAMA.
The story arcs are short, so it's perfect for new readers who wants to give it a try. You can just randomly jump to any new world and read that to form an opinion. I encourage you to try out the zombie apocalypse chapter (c9.0), it's really fun. Yup.

First off, one honest comment amidst the endless masses of hysteric praise--Quickly Wear the Face of the Devil is a fun "gateway drug" to the Boys' Love and Quick Transmigration genres, but it's nowhere near the cream of the crop.

-----

One of the greatest strengths of the Quick Transmigration genre is the sheer variety of content. No matter what your preferences are, Quickly Wear the Face of the Devil is bound to have a certain genre/arc/trope that you like.

Unfortunately, this same characteristic is also one of the greatest weaknesses of the... more>> genre.

Because for every arc/world that perfectly fits your personal preferences... there's going to be one that makes you cringe so hard you can feel your liver.

1) Plot

At its core, Quickly Wear the Face of the Devil is a series of repetitive story arcs that all follow one general premise:

Zhou Yunsheng transmigrates into a character that would normally be s*upid and evil cannon fodder. Because he has a ridiculously overpowered wealth of knowledge (especially the skills of a "L33T HAXORZ"), he instead makes this cannon fodder character shine. This involves slapping the faces of those who previously disliked the cannon fodder character, particularly the "original protagonist" of each world. Along the way, he strikes up an eternal romance with another person who appears to be transmigrating from world to world with him.

All 15-16 of the arcs/worlds that Zhou Yunsheng travels to follow this same pattern. Just by reading this premise alone, you can probably tell whether you as an individual will enjoy this story.

At the same time, each arc/world uses different tropes from different genres. Personal taste definitely factors into which worlds you enjoy, but some of these arcs are inherently more compelling than others.

Disclaimer with my personal preferences: I like historical/fantasy settings. I absolutely goddamn hate "overpowered Hollywood Hacking", which is sadly all over the place in this novel.

And as someone who does cherish originality, I resented that some arcs of this novel kept holding up the MC's ability to copy/plagiarize as some great and noble act which we readers should applaud.

As a result, out of these 15 arcs, some of them I greatly enjoyed, while others I absolutely hated.

Expand the "spoilers" below for my extremely quick reviews on each arc.

Spoiler
    1. Rich Heir/IT Developer - a very dull first arc, with lots of the aforementioned "bullsh*t hacking". Every single side character was extremely extremely flat. I almost dropped the entire novel because of how little substance there was to this world. 1/5.
    2. Autistic Painter (modern day) - I enjoyed the drama, especially how the MC took a more subtle/manipulative role instead of BSing every single thing with "hacking". 3.5 out of 5.
    3. Scholar in Ancient Times - some of the plot points were cliche, and MC used "Silly Plagiarism Powers" to impress everyone. I did enjoy some of the side characters, and at least there was no "B.S. hacking" haha. 3 out of 5.
    4. Gold Digger Boyfriend - I liked the drama and catharsis in this arc, though I felt the writing was on the hammy side. The ML's role was a tiny bit shoehorned and shallow. 3.5 out of 5.
    5. Landlord - hooray for more drama! I liked that the side characters of this world weren't completely flat--even though they were kind of antagonistic, they had understandable motivations. The ending kind of sputtered out without a strong finish though. 3.5 out of 5.
    6. Rockstar - I hated this arc. It was the epitome of this novel's worst aspects: the MC plagiarizes/regurgitates stuff from popular culture and claims it as his own, while the crowds eat it up like candy as "original". The ML's role was also shallow. 0 out of 5.
    7. Concubine - I'm a sucker for ancient times stuff with compelling side characters. (The original world's protagonists actually felt human, as opposed to shallow smug a**holes!) And the MC got to play a more subtle/manipulative role again. 4 out of 5.
    8. Supermodel Contestant - I thought I would absolutely goddamn detest this arc since I hate reality TV shows and this kind of petty drama. The ML in this arc also gave me creepy vibes to be honest... However, I was really pleasantly surprised by one of the wonderful side characters!! She carried this arc for me, even though the writing fell back into boring territory near the end. 3 out of 5.
    9. Researcher in the Apocalypse - I also enjoyed this more than I expected, since the side characters were nicely fleshed out. I liked that the MC actually didn't focus much on manipulation and deception this time around, and instead honestly worked really really hard. Unfortunately, this made his own character a tiny bit flat. 3.5 out of 5.
    10. Light Priest - how do I put this... some of the tropes in this arc really did not ring my bell, and the side characters could be extremely infuriating. The overly detailed scenes between MC and ML read a bit like someone's fetish play... 2 out of 5.
    11. A/B/O Intergalactic Soldier - oh boy, petty love triangle drama and a "original protagonist of this world" who acted overly s*upidly. This arc felt a little discongruous, like it wasn't sure what tone it wanted to be. 1.5 out of 5.
    12. Disciple Cultivator - I like the cultivation genre, so I was happy to dive into this. However, it was on the cliche side for a cultivation novel. 3 out of 5.
    13. CEO of an IT Company - this is probably the only technology-related arc I didn't mind too much, simply because it didn't focus that much on silly OP hacking. It was just drama, plain and simple, and didn't overstay its welcome. 3.5 out of 5.
    14. Hidden Twin/Piano Prodigy - mmm give me that delicious drama and angst. Some of the MC's "bullsh*t overpowered musical skill" moments made me roll my eyes, and I again felt the ML's character was rather shoe-horned and flat. But overall, I liked the side characters and absolutely loved the general themes of this arc. 4 out of 5.
    15. Emperor - a nice and "simple" court politics arc!! I really liked how this story knew exactly what it wanted to be--the MC masterfully manipulating the events around him, without using any random "oh I know everything about this subject because hacking" bullshit. 4 out of 5.
    16. Genius Hacker in the "Real World" -... this last arc was not good. Not good. The world-building was confusing, the side characters were all really s*upid, the plot was paper-thin and riddled with holes, and... Bullsh*t Hacking returned. It made the story end on a sour note for me. 0 out of 5.
      [collapse]
2) Characters

Since this is a Quick Transmigration novel, the main characters do change from world to world.

In some worlds I really enjoyed the MC's cunning and wisdom, while in others I detested his selfishness, arrogance, and smugness.

In some worlds the ML went through incredible character development and growth, while in others he was a walking "plot device built to protect the MC", without much of a personality of his own (oh, besides being extremely possessive... sigh).

If you're looking for a complex protagonist with both flaws and lovable aspects, you're not going to find that here. But if you like an overpowered protagonist whose main purpose in life is to slap the faces of each world's protagonists left and right? Congratulations, Zhou Yunsheng is for you. Don't get me wrong, this isn't an inherently bad thing--the story itself understands that the MC is this type of person ;)

(I do appreciate that he is an openly homos*xual MC! I know, it's the small things in life.)

3) Overall Comments:

Quickly Wear the Face of the Dead is not an irredeemably bad story by any means. On the other hand, it's nowhere near a masterpiece. Its writing is not even "objectively good", thanks to a plethora of dropped plot points, flat side characters, Deus Ex Machina, etc.

In particular, there are two big red flags. Do not read this novel if you:

-Want one coherent storyline with true long-term character development, as opposed to all these isolated arcs

-Can't stop rolling your eyes at egregious Marty Stu level "hacking" that's basically the MC waving a magic wand and giving himself godlike powers to resolve any difficulties at all

If you don't mind the above two points, this novel is still a very fun read. It's a prime example of casual/popular/popcorn fiction. If you do pick this novel up, I recommend reading with the baseline expectation that this is inherently a revenge/escapist fantasy. (That way you won't be disappointed like I was.)

In particular, I highly recommend that if you see there's an arc/world with tropes that you do not like, just go ahead and skip it. It will make your reading experience much more enjoyable if you don't have to slog through genres/tropes you hate. You won't be missing much, and you'll still have tons of fun <3 <<less

My reaction when binge reading this: Kyaaaaaaa. Sooo cute. Where has this been all my life.

After I finished reading it: My life has no meaning. What do I live for? WHAT IS LIFE?

After finishing the latest chapters, I went into depression because there was nothing else to live for, the only thing that kept me going was knowing more chapters were coming.

Every morning and night I would check for an update. Please read this novel at your own risk. HEED MY WARNING.

Okay so, first of all, I feel very cheated. I trusted the positive reviews and turns out it's not the masterpiece and enjoyable read but utter rubbish.

The MC is annoying Marty Sue (and not even a well-written one!), and I usually don't have a problem with marty sues but in this story it's just not redeemable. Here's why:

    • there's no conflict and the MC can easily solve everything
    • the MC is 1000y/o but still behaves like a h**ny teenager with no common sense
    • the deep love between main leads magically appears in a spun of one paragraph and a lot of time-jumps.
    • dubious consent/underage
    • constantly "beautiful" and "jade-faced" MC with "supple waist"
    • the characters are two-dimensional, if not one-dimensional
    • "evil characters" The storylines are convoluted and honestly boring. At the start of every chapter, there's a long explanation of who's betrayed who, who cheated on whom and so on. By the third paragraph, I stopped caring and could barely remember the character's names.

In every chapter, the MC "turns the tables on the good guys". And it's not like the interesting portrayal of the gray morality of "good guys", the author just literally makes them "evil". If you ever read a badly written Harry Potter fanfiction with a tag "the death eaters are good" or "good bad side" or "evil dumbledore" IT'S EXACTLY LIKE THAT.

I'm honestly not sure why so many people left positive reviews. This story is simply not good. It's repetitive, annoying, has no conflict or intrigue that isn't see-through, poorly-written and pretentious. I understand that on some level you're supposed to project yourself on this MC who's a genius with amazing skill in everything under the blue sky, but in reality, the story has no emotional pull, you don't get invested. Too much tell, not show, far-fetched plot and complete disregard of supporting characters.

I lost all trust in the filter option of this site if this story is considered the top dog of the genre (T__T)

This story is very interesting! It's basically 15 different stories that the protagonist goes through. The protagonist was trapped in a system that controlled his actions and forced him to be the villain timeless times, being reborn in a different scenario. But slowly he hacks 007, the AI of the system, destroying the system's ability to control him. This is after he was reborn thousands of times, so he had picked up numerous different skills. Using these skills and the knowledge he picked up from hacking 007, he aims to... more>> change the course of the stories he is in, for the better for the character he had taken over and ultimately paralyse the system.

The most interesting part about this novel is the different scenarios he is placed in and

how the love interest is the same soul in all the stories. Although the translation is MTL, it is of very high quality and very easy to understand. The translator works very hard and updates frequently and with one complete story at a time. (But they're on a vacation rn, so no updates for 2 weeks) I had fun reading! Thanks so much for your hard work and have fun on your vacation~ <<less

This is an amazing story, told in sixteen different segments. Each of the segments have unique storylines, but it remains strictly 1v1. The stories really start to pick up by the ninth segment, after which the overarching storyline becomes more apparent. The romance is adorable, and the ending is reasonably satisfying. Overall, I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a light and incredibly sweet reading experience - including those who would usually avoid the yaoi genre. The translations are very good, and the translator always updates each segment... more>> in bulk. Expect updates approximately once a month, for about 11-15 chapters each time. Note that there is a considerable amount of internal monologuing and background explanations in this story, usually in a condensed form with few specific details so you can quickly understand the gist of things. If that is not to your preference, the beginning of each story segment may be somewhat difficult to read. There is also a fair amount of repetitive plot points, so if you are looking for an unpredictable plot, realistic romance, and/or in-depth characterizations, you will find this novel rather lacking. It does, however, make up for its deficiencies using different worlds and satisfying face-smacking. And the romance, though unrealistic, is honestly cute as hell. My goodness, how come a mediocre story like this gets so much raving reviews and high rating? That one sentence sums up how I feel about this story.

Just imagine you and your friend play a drinking game with a condition that every time the main character is praised, you drink. Don't do it. You'll get liver cancer soon because this story is pretty much about licking the protagonist's d*ck. It's repetitive, redundant, boring, predictable and annoying as f*ck.

I did try. I did. I tried to wrap my head around... more>> how the protagonist is so OP. I mean, he's forced to reincarnate in many worlds many times, so it's inevitable that he will pick up many skills. However, in the end, the way the author executed the idea was just sloppy and pure lazy-writing. He didn't struggle a bit; everything he did was a smooth sail; there is no sense of thrill and challenge. What's worse, he got the ability to adjust his appearance to the best. Remember the drinking game I just said, this time, just slightly change the condition into every time he is praised "beeeautiful and seeexy"; don;t worry, you'll get drunk fast. Watch the author technically recycle the same looks for every arc: the jade white skin, the red lips, the sexy waist, the perfect buttock (this one seems to get a lot of emphasis). It's like I'm reading about a girl instead. There are times that I thought I was reading shoujo, instead of yaoi. This falls into the stereotypical formula of yaoi in which the uke must be feminine, which fortifies my belief that this story is written by a thirsty fujoshi who is trapped in her own fantasy.

Each arc follows an exact formula and recycles many cliched tropes. Allow me to list some: unparalleled beautiful uke; sexy rich seme (oh how I hate those tropes) ; face-slapping; card-board villains who exist to glorify the MC and his poor-made romance; shows of raging hormone in disguise of "lurve";....

The story started off strong but got stale quickly. It became too repetitive and predictable that I just needed to flip through to get the main idea.

I was gonna give this a 2.5-3 star since I did enjoy the beginning; however, I saw the flood of 4-5 star rating with tons of praise, I feel that I need to contribute sth to balance this out. This story is just a way of escapism for reader to insert themselves into the MC. The face-slapping later turns extremely hypocritical and disturbing. The romance isn't that great.

In conclusion, this story is perfect if you're really thirsty for some yaoi or just have a really bad day and want sth to vent. If you're a smart reader, skip this.

P.S: I know my review is gonna be buried under tons of positive review but if anyone have read the story, felt the same way as me and felt frustrated with the current rating, I hope this review will let you know that there are people who felt the same as you. <<less

I started this story because many readers praise it as the epitome of transmigration novels.
Frankly, I was immensely disappointed, not only can't I agree with the notion that it's a formidable transmigration story, in my opinion, it's not even a good novel per se.

Romance, I see none. There aren't any real feelings between MC and ML, it's more a physical obsession on both sides, which makes sense considering that they don't know each other at all, yet the author tries hard to paint it as undying everlasting love –... more>> most friends with benefits have a more realistic "romantic" relationship than those two.

The quality has very prominent fluctuations, while some arcs are passable, others don't even reach a mediocre highschool essay, both in terms of overall writing quality and story execution.
One way to explain this is, that the author mixed very old stories with newer ones, some are basically her first attempts at writing but for some strange reasons, she decided to put them in the middle of the novel, causing a shocking drop in quality.
It would have been better to leave them out and have less arcs instead of worsening the already far from perfect novel even more.

All of the arcs have one thing in common: the MC is so overpowered that there's no possible way to feel suspense or have even a tiny bit of interest in how he will solve all of the problems, instead of one golden finger, he has 10.
He knows everything, is more intelligent than several supercomputer combined, can solve everything, adapt to every possible situation in the blink of an eye, is a perfect actor, and has a cheating device - just in case that he isn't overpowered enough.
Overpowered MCs can be a good choice for certain stories, the key is to keep the balance, there is no point in reading about someone who can sleepwalk through all dangerous situations.

The characters, apart from MC and ML being overpowered, have no real personality, ML is possessive, MC is the omnipotent genius, which the author reminds us of at least once during every single arc, but apart from that, there's nothing, they don't feel real or at least believable, more like blank canvases with a post-it displaying a single word attached to it so the onlooker can differentiate between them.

What irked me a lot was, that she introduces the original arc's MC only to forget about it in an instant, going completely against it, and turning them into an abomination.

Spoiler

The original protagonist of the ABO arc was meant to be a strong person on the top of the world, instead he became a weak leech depending on some strong random Gong, it wasn't even his own decision but a deal, ultimately turning him into a prostitute.
It can't be explained by MC changing everything, even the protag's character did a complete turn from strong to sl*t in the span of a few chapters without any prior indicator that he would easily resolve to such measures.

[collapse]

This wasn't the only time the author did this, it's a common occurrence, one that I can't quite understand, it seems she didn't really think it through before writing and couldn't figure out how to keep their character consistent and in line with the changes our MC makes.

Repetitions are another annoying factor, the author tends to repeat certain points over and over during one arc, like ML's societal stand, nicknames with zero relevance, ect., sometimes even multiple times in one chapter.

Last but not least, the main story is a convoluted mess, maybe the long writing process is at fault, she missed the opportunity to slowly unravel the mystery, instead she put the "conclusion" into the last few chapters.
I don't want to spoil anything so I'll leave it at "chaotic, cliché, and uninspired".

To be fair, there is no questionable consent or s*xual abuse, neither is there "underage s*x" like a reviewer before me said. 18 is the legal age in a lot of countries, and if we talk about the legal age for s*x, it would be 15-16, while the novel has countless problems, underage s*x isn't one of them.
One more plus, the MC is a gay guy, no "straight-turned-gay" miracle, the age difference between MC and ML tends to be very realistic as well, gay couples often have a gap of up to 15 years, even the s*x isn't this fantastical "blood & pain" wife/husband cliché but partners enjoying a good time together.

These are the only reasons why I give it two instead of zero stars.

Looking at the novel as a whole, it's a mediocre story with sub-bar writing style, lacking in more or less every department, and is easily surpassed by other writers with similar story-arcs but superior quality.

Personally, I wouldn't recommend it, it's massively over-hyped and over-praised, maybe it's okay to read the individual arcs as short-stories, you won't miss anything by skipping those you don't like, it would be enough to read the first one and then the final – the novel is basically one big filler. <<less

TL;DR:

  • This is a yaoi / shounen-ai / boys love story. There are fantasy elements and a noticable plot (that's actually pretty good), but overall a huge plot element in the story is the male MC's romances with men. You have been warned.
  • This isn't the most realistic, heart-pounding, or complex novel, but it's still pretty well-written and an easy read. If you don't mind BL and just want a fantasy romance, give it a try.
Synopsis:

  • The main character was a genius hacker before "God" trapped him in a virtual hell. Always reborn as the "villian" or "cannon fodder" character, he's forced to play out the roles and dies an unseemly death in thousands of worlds, over thousands of years. When he finally breaks the cycle, he resolves to ruin God's plans... and finds love along the way.
Plot Notes:

  • Even though he's finally developed a tool that enables him to stray from God's "script, " he is still trapped in an endless cycle of lives. He decides to slowly corrupt God's system by changing the path of his character, the protagonist, and antagonist in each world he enters.
  • This novel is essentially about following the main character as he lives many different lives, and watching him manipulate and change the pre-written stories in order to spite God. He also builds a strong romance in each life.
Main Character:

  • Basically, the MC is a genius who has lived thousands of lives as thousands of different characters. He has become immensely talented in all fields. He is extremely intelligent, calculating, and alluring... and somewhat OP... but he's still likeable.
  • The MC's original self was gay. However, "God" forced him to play the villain and do unspeakable things with/to women for thousands of years. When he finally regains self-control, he is relieved and ready to pursue men again.
  • Note: even though his relationships are homosexual, they're not just "exaggeratedly gay" or smutty. (Everything is pretty clean. PG-13 at the very most.) The MC's relationships are actually pretty solid, developed, and healthy.
Translation/Writing:

  • The translation quality is really good, and the chapters are nice and long.
  • This is a very easy and smooth read. Perhaps it's not the most complex novel (it's mostly just nice fantasy-romance fluff), but the plot is solid and the romance takes center stage without detracting from the actual story.
All in all, I'd say that if you enjoy an easy fantasy romance, and don't have a problem with BL, give it a try. You might enjoy it. I know I did. <<less

Tooo Awesome! Too cute! Too interesting! Tooo much love!!!!

Out of aaaaaall the yaoi I ever read (and I read really a lot of them...), this one is the most interesting and complete. What do I mean by complete?

Well, first of all it's not a harem type but you get to have all kind of personalities because the MCs reincarnate in different characters, in different worlds, and experience all kind of different loves!!! From the first story I already understood that I would like this novel, but after reading it and... more>> then searching for the raws I fell in love with it!

What kind of worlds? Well, 15 worlds and 15 lifetimes:

Spoiler

There are stories in the modern world where the MC becomes a singer, a painter, a pianist, an idol, a model, then there are stories in the ancient china, in apocalyptic worlds with zombies and gods, wuxi worlds, ABO world, there is even a world where guys can become pregnant.....>///<

[collapse]

The main is the uke, but he is so cute, so clever, so charming that you might as well fall in love with him. The seme though does not lose in anything, his love is so strong that I blush whenever he speaks or thinks....... (the novel is not too explicit, but some descriptions are...>///<)

After reading it once, you cannot resist to read it another time, it's like reading 15 different yaois of the same level (though you might not like some kind of worlds), you really can't get tired of it. If you really do not like a world, just continue reading it until the next one, they are sooo fantastic I cannot even express how much I like it.

Strong and possessive seme, charming and intelligent uke, different lives but the same strong love, what are you waiting for?

I must say that I really do not want to push people in the same abyss I am, because yes, Yaois are an addiction you cannot get rid of once you fall for it, it's been 5 years prob since my first yaoi anime my friends recommended me and I still cannot let it go...I'm completely a fallen woman now.

But really. To the other people who have already fallen with me, this one is a real masterpiece, at first I didn't want to write a review for a yaoi, because I feel like it really resembles an obsession I shouldn't talk too much about, but this one.....

You like True Star? Kill the Lights? Reicarnation of a Superstar? ABO cadets? Rehabilitating the Villain Plan? The founder of Diabolism? Whatever you like, whatever you have tried, this one satisfies all your desires, completely.

Oh, well, except for those who like netorare or anything, this one makes you really feel the strong love the characters have.... awwwwww

What should I say now? Mm.... Bon Appétit! Hope you will enjoy this beautiful treat! Thank you very much translator for choosing to translate this novel and allowing me (and all the others who enjoyed it) to experience such a rollercoaster of love~ <3 <3 <3 <<less

I'm always left feeling letdown after finishing a novel, because I crave more chapters, wishing that the story was never-ending. But this time, I don't feel dissatisfied or wanting. Like one reviewer has already said, this story is addictive. In fact, to call it a story is underplaying it, it's a little like a 1000 and 1 Nights, where the end of one story only means the beginning of another. I'm only getting more and more excited for each new chapter. So far I like every new setting introduced, and... more>> the way the author made something different with every new clichéd plot. Most of all I like the strong-willed and ballsy protagonist. Thankfully translation is fast and top quality, so all in all, a highly recommended read! <<less

I have to say, I love the translators work. You are amazing.

I love this story so much, I started reading the raws using MTL. I have to say, I love it. Depending on the world, the MTL is understandable but some is slightly harder due to xianxia world and the Chinese olden days.

If you are thinking twice about this book. Think no more. This book has every genre you want. Xianxia (check). Superstar (check). ABO (check) and etc. Oh man, if you don't like the first world, move on to... more>> the next. It won't feel like you miss much except the profound deepness of the romance between two characters. Each world is it's own story. If you get critical, maybe you'd see similarities but honestly, I don't notice cause it feels like I'm literally reading a new book every time he moves on to the next world. In short, I LOVE IT. It's like saying no matter who they are, they will always love each other. Also, you won't feel annoyed by the MC being OP or anything cause he's not. He might have more abilities than normal humans but depending on the world (genre also), he uses only that specific ability. Ahhh. I love it. I can't say anything more but I love it. It's the perfect love story. It's the perfect romance and for someone like me who like reading almost all the genre out there, this is the perfect book for me. <<less

When I first started reading, I thought, oh, this seems interesting. However, the longer I read, the more invested I became. This story is one large story encompassing 15 smaller ones. However, you shouldn't forget that the MC's original world also counts as a world (for 16 total) and I may be wrong, but I believe there are 3 extra worlds and extra H in the printed version, but that's a different story.

I thought the first story line was alright, but I was hooked from the second story because I... more>> admired the author for touching on so many different subjects. The author/translator would have to look up so many different subjects such as the terminology painters use, and the feeling portrayed during war or when passionately playing music. Just the sheer amount of dedication and the details make this story worth reading and it far surpasses the stigma of the yaoi category. It's extremely addicting and I want to congratulate the translator for all of their hard work.

Spoiler

The plot starts to get more intense (as if it wasn't already) after chapter 9, when the MC starts visiting stronger worlds. The author also starts mixing up their formula and the stories start referencing each other, so it's not as if each arc is completely independent.

I always looked forward to what the new world's settings would be and the identity of the ML, not to mention how the MC will mess up the original story line. It's interesting to note that the story will give you hints on what happened in the original plot but keep you guessing on how the MC will turn the tides (even if you know he'll still win in the end). Although the MC may seem overpowered, there are times he's backed into a corner as well. But no matter what, he always keeps you guessing.

The author always points out the character flaws in the protagonists of each world the MC goes to, showing that even if they're the protagonist, they're not perfect. This is highlighted with part of the series' nickname "Turning Black to White, " a twist of the saying "Turn White to Black, " which usually means twisting the facts, often for malicious purposes. Here, the MC is twisting the facts to save his cannon fodder/villian counterpart in each world. However, that's not to say that our MC is perfect or always the victim either. He himself knows that he's kind of an as*hole and the author doesn't attempt to hide it at all.

The main story line encompassing the entire series shows just how much the MC fell in love with the ML. For example, after the first world, the MC mourned ML's death for a long time before jumping into the next world, but after realizing that he would meet ML again, he starts immediately jumping into the next world. I've seen people complain that the main story line didn't have signs of showing up, but even in its absence you can infer some things.

There's so much I could say about this series, but I think I've covered the main points. For those of you who really want to know, here's a list of their counterparts in each world. As for what it means, or the setting, I'll let you find out yourself, or you can look at the spoiler forum.

Good quality novel. (Hard to believe that the translator MTLed it and them did their magic on it. It takes talent to make mtl comprehensive. You Won't even notice that it's mtl.). This novel is addictive. It's like reading a fairytale. You how the story is going to go and you don't get bored reading it because it so beautifully written. Chapters before chapter 8 are pretty simple plot wise compared to the chapters 8 and above. The chapters start to become waaaaay more long than the initial chapters... more>> and more heavy with plot.

As the summary explained, the MC is forced into a 'world' by the 'god' of that world and is forced to play the villians in multiple universes. He cannot change the plot and has to play the perfect villain, only then he will be allowed to go home. And as we already know how the end of the villian is in a novel, it's no surprise that the MC, after suffering and doing things that mentally broke him, became ruthless. He has spent thousands of years in this fake world, playing the role every sort of villian you have ever read about. He slowly regains control over his life and starts to disrupt the power of the 'god' so that he could go home.

The story proceeds in arcs where in each arc he is reincarnated as a person who suffered due to the actions of the protagonists, be it a connon fodder, love rival or the main villian. Then he goes about making the lives of those protagonists hell and fulfilling wishes of the bodies he has reincarnated into.

What I really appreciate about this novel is that through its many arcs focusing on the common and uncommon storylines, we get to see that be it a protagonist or antagonist, every one is capable of good and every one is capable of doing bad. It highlighted how in thier quest to be successful, the protagonists of a story in thoughtlessly destroy the lives of others. How sometimes they just go too far andd do more inhumane things than a villian.

The plot is nice. The characters are nice. The MC is OP but it's pretty obvious why. The ML is nothing new, the cold hearted ML of BL novels. But surprisingly, he is really passionate about the MC and might be a bit of a masochist. He is very mature. And really REALLY obsessed with the MC. You'll understand as you will read the novel.

Also I've noticed a few people uncomfortable by the fact that MC most of the times is only around 18 years old physically while the ML is near 30. I wish for you to bear in mind, the MC is thousands of years older than the ML mentally. Had it not been for the ML being older and more mature, the MC wouldn't even look at the poor guy.

1000% recommended. The translation speed is really good. It's a good fun read. Take your time to enjoy it ;) <<less

Truly exceptional, one of the best BL novels I've read here on NU. Each part is a complete story on its own, and they fit the main plot line perfectly, making it even better. The romance is sweet, but not tooth-decaying or crude, you can really feel the love between the characters - and they are, well, simply awesome! Especially the MC, he's my favourite type :) although his partner holds up really well too. In short, I absolutely recommend!

For sure this review will drown in waves of positive ratings, but can't help sharing the experience.

This novel was recommended to me and since I was new to QT it felt like a new experience. At first I had a good start with it. But this novel didn't age well with me. So giving it 2, 5 out of 5 for being a kind of pioneer and a few things that were pleasant.

Why it's kinda.. you know.....:

  • The information about the world is dumped at you at the get-go. The script is always melodramatic to show how poor the original host was supposed to be. Well, not always, some are pitiful, some are s*upid. Sometimes when you think about it, they actually made mistakes they should be held accountable for. So you get the script on the first chapter when you don't know the characters and don't give a damn, at least I don't have emotional fluctuations. The other part is that at times these worlds sound perfunctory. Many times the story doesn't really dig deeper, though who knows what would happen if it did;
  • The OP-ness of the MC (and ML) . Tbh the way he's all-powerful and knows everything is kind of... too much at times. I mean that part that he's omnipotent with many things, but it all comes not from his natural talent, but the system that ajusts his parameters to be the best. The only redeeming factor is that he has a high IQ, but for a high IQ person he sometimes acts completely illogically. In their latest novel author actually corrected many of these details (more about it at the end of this edited review). But also the cheating of his sytem dowgrades the result and his character as the main, surely he learnt a skill or two previously, but there's a constant mentioning of system involvement. Thus there's no real thrill that should be present from a character, because you know for sure he will meet no challanges, he'll be most perfect in that field that belonged to original owner. Plus he always ends up as some huge celebrity or the king of universe, like a fairy tale. The story falls into his plan too conveniently and thus makes the story kind of predictable;
  • Romance. Like honestly it felt as if someone said - well, we traveled few worlds together and I don't feel bad about it, let's continue like that. I'll be honest, I'm not a fan how the romance part was built, since many times they couldn't recognize each other, surely it surved as a story twist, but only once in Arc 11. The love part of this novel didn't feel like development of feelings, but just lust. Because ML always forgot about MC and his feelings were awoken being near, it kind of gives you the notion of fated lovers indeed, but on the contrary they never accumulated, they always stayed in that world. I don't say that MC, even if they were initially different men, shouldn't fall in love, but it actually drops a shadow on his and ML's relationship, since there were several worlds before MC was certain that the person was one;
  • ML stalking/monitoring issue, it's not sexy at all, it's not intersting, it's actually creepy. MLs of those years when this novel was written actually suffered a lot from this r*pey/forceful trope. While I understand it was passionate and domineering in the heart of the author, but many times it's not conveyed well. He sometimes blackmails MS, sometimes acts really out of line, but it's all love right? Nah, girl, nah. You add his monitoring/peeping issue, the constant need to be near, it actually makes things not look good imo;
  • Has anyone with lactose intollerance like myself felt there was too much milk? Ok, kidding XD But I hate warm milk, my enthusiasm was downsized because of it.
  • Shallow worlds. Some worlds were pretty decent, even having novel ideas for twists, although you kind of wanted to point at the lack of logic of it, but other worlds made you wonder - why am I wasting time on this again? Also there were several borriwings. Especially the modelling arc, btw it felt so long, it was the most boring of them all and had one of creepiest MLs. Plus with the way how the top model program was used you kind of wondered - did the author take anything else?
  • Very plain villains btw, sometimes the way the villains were actually treated on the background also lacked thrill a bit.
  • Beastiality extras, like I will never understand the love for that shit. I understand author was more excited when they were younger to write more p*rny stuff, but I don't get the like for this shit.
The only positive stuff I remember is that sometimes the change of small details that brought different results. I'd say one thing, author did revise their mistakes with their latest QT and although the setting of MC is similar - truly OP character - but MC enters only one field, science, ML is also corrected into a cuter guy,... more>> both characters are involved into future development and involvement with worlds they're travelling to, both have same appearance every world, only different age, ML never has previous affections being only touched by MC and MC actually is clean in that aspect too, they also have only one final villain to solve and the arcs are about that, so it feels more developed, MC is rarely bound by any need to play characters, only if he thinks himself that he wants to play a bit. Interesting fact, this novel has more patriotism, unlike FOD where MC sometimes travelled and developed abroad, MC of this new QT always ends up in China and all of his developments are China-oriented.

Often times you hear FOD be recommended to new ppl, but honestly it's up to you. I personally give it 2, 5 right in the middle, fair))) Even if it is a pioneer in its' kind, as many think, but doesn't mean it's the best. It's definitely not. With time this author matured though and no matter how I think this novel has lacking parts, I'm happy this author grew into something more and left this vugorous type. And I still dislike that cover for this novel, just why :'D

I am so happily surprised to see this being translated here! I have read this in Chinese as this is one of the more popular transmigrating book in China.

This story is truly exceptional! Both main characters are so great and the parallel world stories are very interesting.

I highly recommend!

Almost all the reviews here are screaming that the novel is awesome. I agree.

Okay, sure it gets repetitive, but that's the formula! Just like how Pokemon games usually follow a similar plot.

The love between MC and the male lead is sweet. Sometimes mature, but there hasn't been anything super graphic between them so far... (I dunno, the TL says the next chapter is sorta... kinky...) The MC's always pretty in a feminine way and the ML is usually the dominant possessive type. It's funny since the MC found the ML... more>> through certain aspects of his character.

Spoiler

Smokes, dominantly possessive, over a certain height, and handsome. It's interesting that the ML's soul has being following the MC without remembering that they're lovers or anything. MC only realized at the... 4th story?

[collapse]

The premise behind the story is interesting. I wouldn't mind reading it even if there was no romance. (not a fan of romance novels in general, but whatever) I'm wondering whether we'll get to see the confrontation and the final reveal. We probably will.

I admit that side characters don't get a lot of characterization, but they still get a decent amount.

MTL, but it's of high quality with fast and complete releases.

At chapter 6.10.

Finished the novel! Quality remained consistent, but I had some chapters I liked better. Ending was good/decent. Glad I read the novel. I'm a bit sad some of the side characters didn't stay though. <<less

Someone said on the reviews for thia novel that it was very addicting and once you start, you can't put it down. I definitely agree 120% haha.

This novel is such a guilty pleasure, no weak, crybaby leads. No male leads who keep hesitating or pretending they don't feel anything for the main lead. From the start, the main character knows what he wants, what he needs to do and totally not hesitating to achieve his goals. Attractive, intelligent and witty characters, what else would I want in a novel?

The love... more>> between them is just so beautiful that no matter what timeline, they will definitely find each other once again ♡

To those who haven't read the novel yet, please do so. It's worth your time and I'm sure you will get addicted too haha ^-^ <<less

Absolutely stunning! I truly love this story.

I, personally, love overpowered MC and Zhou Yun Sheng, with his knowledge from thousands years of hosting villainous characters learnt various skills that he later used on his slow-and-steady-virus-planting revenge plan.

But the aspect I truly love is

Spoiler

the romance! Du Xu Lang is such a likeable character and their relationship as lover in the first world is truly heartwarming. I love how Zhou Yun Sheng stayed in that first world to be by Du Xu Lang's side until his death. Once he died, Zhou Yun Sheng immediately left the world and recovered from heartache for a long time in the hidden world he own. And when he went to the second world, turned out the next love interest is the same person. At that time, both of them have different names, different background, different personalities, and different everything but it was HINTED and I was CONVINCED, that the love interest, Nian Si Nian, is the reincarnation of Du Xu Lang. If Zhou Yun Sheng is trapped to be the villain, then there is a very high probability that Du Xu Lang/Nian Si Nian is also trapped by the God Lord and experienced the same kind of repeated lives like the MC.

In the third world, the love interest even have double name (maiden name? Can't remember) that is Gu Si Nian. Gah! The romance though!

[collapse]

Of course, not to say that the whole other plot is useless. The MC is very capable and never stray from his objective to slowly cause changes in the worlds so they would no longer in the control of the Lord God.

I really can't wait for the ending, though. Will the MC succeed in returning to his real world? Will the MC and ML meet in real life? So many questions~ <<less
