Tired of the schemes and strifes of city life, Bei Feng finally returned to his hometown in the countryside

While picking asters ‘neath the Eastern fence;

My gaze upon the Southern mountain rests;

Rearing a few chickens and ducks, I shall lead a simple and leisurely life!

However, who would have thought that fate would play a huge joke on Bei Feng? All kinds of magical items and beings of the Myriad Worlds could actually be fished out of the Ancient Well in his yard!

Even a chicken reeled out of the well ended up chasing Bei Feng all over the yard and beating him black and blue! Speechless and aggrieved, he asked the Heavens: if, that day, he’d fished out a Dragon instead of a chicken, what would’ve happened to him!

This is one of those stories that deserve more than 3 stars, but not enough for 4.

It starts out with a young man living in present-day China, who accidentally discovered a magic fishing rod and magic well, where he's living, and if he fished in the well, the hook goes into some kind of a dimensional rift, and fishes out otherworldly things, to bring into this one. This is the story's hook, and its gist, basically. The fishing rod also comes with a supernatural 'computer, ' that tells him what... more>> it is he fished out, and its rating of it.

Using these 'resources, ' he cultivates, and crawls forward, as per usual. Also as per usual, every time he fishes something out of the well, it just happens to be something that's perfectly ideal for him, at that time. The luck of a Chinese LN's MC is with him, all the time.

As you can imagine, initially this gets repetitive and the story turns boring. In fact, it went so bad that when he fishes, and the story goes into great detail of the world his hook goes into, and the runs into a 6-story arc just to describe what it is that his hook fished out -- appropriate for a writer getting paid by the word -- I just lose it, and start skipping the 6 chapters, and get to the point where the hook comes out of the water, and the system describes what it is he got.

If you, as a reader, can endure the slog to about chapter 420 or so, there is a glimmering hope that this isn't just a s*upid, monotonous story about magical fishing. There is actually character growth, though heavily disguised in irrelevant side-stories, unfinished mini-arcs that went abandoned, and inconsequential characters introduced to one effect or another that then disappear.

At chapter 420 or so, it begins to open the universe of the story a little bit, and gives you a glimmer that there may be a bigger story-universe to explore, relating to parallel worlds, higher realms, etc. I don't think this is a spoiler, since the fishing well introduced in the first 10 chapters already tells you there is a multiverse. It's not until chapters 400-something, that this is truly explored, as a viable option where the story may expand. At this point, there is a possibility that the present-day China is this story's version of the small village in a small kingdom at the outskirts of a small continent in a typical xuanhuan story.

I don't know where the story goes after chapter 455, but for the moment, it is quite promising. If this is a novel written for print, a smart editor would have edited down the first 400 chapters to about 80, but this is web publishing where the publisher makes money by-the-chapter, so yeah...

So if you can endure, this is not a bad story to read. It certainly has a distinct added-value compared to the other same-o, same-o. I would very much encourage to read. <<less

Just read the 1st 50 chapter then just go jump to any chapter you want to go, there's not really much improvement, too many fillers, characters become flat, 1 dimensional, useless at some point, you forgot who's who, even the direction of story is missing. I don't remember exactly where did the story got so wrong.

Adopted by an old man when he was a kid, Bei Feng goes back to the mansion he was raised in when he loses his job in the city. The mansion is owned by a big clan who uses it to store memorial tablets, but otherwise it's left to Bei Feng's possession. It's good that they never stop by because of other events that happen...

Anyways! While casting about for something to do, he stumbles across the secret of the mansion's well! If he fishes in it, he can get marvelous... more>> things that can help him immensely. For example, a cultivation technique that will help heal his old injuries or beasts he can cook and sell to earn a minor fortune.

I really like the story, though there isn't as much fishing being done as you'd think. Still, the little stories that accompany the fishing are very well done and highly entertaining. Add more fishing or just intrigue, and I'll be back to add a star or two! <<less

I usually proof read web novels before I read them. And this is yet another writer who has poor vocab. The writer uses the work f*ck 244 times in the first 500 chapters!!! That is excessive even for people who dont mind fowl language. And this is in addition to the racism and poor storytelling mentioned by other reviewers!

I thought this was a story about fishing, and maybe watching or hearing of some adventure stories, but instead it's an MC getting increasingly colder and edgier, apparently a genius who failed everything before going back home cause why not, and he's the greatest cook too, with the best ideas, every smart person comes to like him and spend money on whatever he does, yeah lets go!

This story is ludicrous. Many things are thrown out just to meet their daily quotas without putting any effort into writing.

The wannabe writers just can't get away from the Chinese's obsession with cultivation.

It started out alright but just couldn't keep up with the original idea.

... more>> Then it goes downhill where normal conversation gets ret*rded like "you wanna die" "damn tr*sh", etc.

Literally the IQ level plummets faster than free fall skydiving.

Then you got racism, a bit of pedo, and the lists just repeats itself like other cultivation stories.

These wannabe writers just can't focus on one plot, one story, one setting, and always screwing up after 50-100 chapters.

I got no idea what was the plot to start out as the story just jumps into anything to fill the word counts.

One moment the guy hoards stuff with lots of exaggeration of how great they were to only leave it collecting dust and never mentioned again.

It just keeps getting negative points as it progresses. <<less

Spoiler

starts off with fishing, as a slice of life with some cultivation, living a life in the mountains and running a restaurant... then MC gets involved in the cultivation world and suddenly the style completely changes... he just randomly dissapears from his business and starts cultivating, while fishing is a sort of "gacha" system..... longer and longer time between "draws" eventually completely going into a classic xuanhuan story of crossing lvls while fighting and so on, slapping a few faces as well... the fishing is essentially just a cheat to get random powerups every once in a while

[collapse]

liked the slice of life, bits... but it feels like the author decided to completely go for a different style after a 50-ish chapters... then some time later, the style changes again...

would honestly have been better if it had been remade as a new novel...

i think that author tries to stretch the story too much over different genres, without finishing up properly...

edit: alright if you just want to waste time and need something to read, the story is interesting enough, but don't expect an amazing masterpiece

I had wanted to give this story a 2 stars but then I remembered that the MC isn't the strongest freakin existence in his world or any other world's. Through out the story we see even stronger beings that could destroy the world being beaten by the MC only because he's lucky enough to own the fishing system which basically is his pillars.
