Our MC is the correct eras Scion of Light and gets the burden of redeeming the world from the demons. He is kind, intelligent, filial, humble, and has all the characteristics that a truly good MC should have. At times he is too kind and at times he comes off as heartless due to the extent of his morality. His responsibilities were great and to all his allies, friends, and family he is the greatest assurance for he never goes back on his words or ever abandons his loved ones. For Cai'er he could give up anything and I think Long Haochen is one good MC. His character may not be something many can stomach, for the world is far cruel to uphold his ideals and morals. Yet it does not change that he is truly kindhearted. But on the other hand merciless to his enemies. He grows into becoming a compelling leader but never overtly arrogant.

One of my favorite female leads in xuanhuan / xianxia novels. She is strong and doesn't make the MC come to her rescue all the time. In fact, she helps him and strives to always be supportive as possible. What I love about her is that her strength comes from her entire being not just physically. The experiences she had to endure in my opinion are far crueler than the MC and I love her for being so strong and kind despite all of that. Long Haochen might have some credit in all of it, but to be able to truly forgive and forget is something not many can do.

My third favorite character in the entire novel. He has done very bad things, killing millions upon millions of innocent lives to get revenge on the people that wronged him. He is the entire reason humanity came to the brink of extinction and he is so powerful that he alone brought humanity to crumble. But the very root of creating the Holy Necromancer, Slumbering Calamity Elux was humans. Greed and thirst for power made him get betrayed by his most beloved person and the people he thought were his. His story shows that he was not born evil, but with the purest of hearts, after all, he was the Scion of Light before Long Haochen. But betrayal made him filled with rancor driving him to a path of no return. But still, his character is so compelling and you could see how proud and confident he was even in his death.

Our Demon God Emperor of the Shengmo Dalu. My second favorite character in the whole novel. The reason I love him so much is not something I can express in words. When he was first introduced, his charisma was very apparent. Seemingly gentle in his terrific deamenor. The dynamic I loved the most was between Long Haochen and Fengxiu, they are enemies but at the same time, they are family. I cried when Fengxiu died (In a way, because he can't really die as he has the power of a god) and was happy he could finally be with the person who ever loved him.

Oh my Haoyue! My favorite character. The very best. Long Haochen's little brother, and companion. He was the only constant in his life and the despair his death brought was really heartbreaking. To really understand his awesomeness and adorableness you need to read this. Just loved, loved, loved our little haoyue.

Heck, just writing this review made me remember the whole chapter one of Child of Light and SYWZ for some reason and it is now stuck in my head after last reading them both 2 years ago. Not kidding, I remember the whole novel but obviously not word for word. CoL ending sucks, kinda close to how Coiling Dragon ended.
