His will is tough and he is unwilling to be normal. However, his pathway was destined to be that way, being born in a small sect’s branch.

However, one day, his left eye merges with the eye of an Ancient God in an accident. From that moment on, he turns from a fish into a dragon.

He rises up like a star, walking the path of a legendary cultivator.

From being a tiny, small ant at the bottom of the world, he rises step by step, into a place full of powerful sects, strong ancient clans and countless geniuses.

This is an era of legends.

One of my favorites!

The MC is ok, ok because he is actually normal and doesn't kill people just to vent his emotions. He is a bit cunning and is a "step-by-step" type of guy, so he doesn't rush in a battle or mock some "chosen daughters and sons of heaven" for whatever reason

There is some Plotarmor, but it isn't that important in my opinion cuz the geniuses around him have all backgrounds/ gear/ cultivation etc.

The story is interesting because the MC goes from one place to another and explore ruins,... more>> challenge sects, kills bad guys, flees from angry elders, flees from greedy elders, kills elders and beat up geniuses

I like that the MC, isn't really bound to anyone and can freely roam the world and keep adventuring, so far. <<less

I never felt the need to write a review, but in this novel I really had to.. This is by far the worst, more generic, bland, with the worst one-side dimensional characters novel I have ever read... It his filled with boring, overused and s*upid tropes, the MC is just bland, the side characters are only there so that the MC can shine.. The cultivation system is also a complete mess. The plot of the story is someone bullies MC, MC fights back and wins, someone goes " You dare... more>> hit me? " and then comes the brother of said someone to exact revenge. When MC wins, there was actually a cousin in the inner disciples of that someone, and now he wants revenge... next is the father of one of them, who can´t allow such disgrace.. and there you go, just more family members appearing, more s*upid side characters who literally do nothing at all that is not bash MC, and you have this amazing story. And somehow this has 4.3 rtg here.. <<less

This novel actually has an MC who actually thinks about his situation and doesn’t just go gunho and starts being an as*hole to everyone. He is reasonably strong and not just oo for the sake of it and theres actual scenario where you think it’s possible he might die. Overall I enjoy the novel

This story is basically Kakashi goes on cultivation journey. It's truly is like this because here are the main abilities of MC.

  1. MC is generally op because he gets special eyeball.
  2. This sharingan's two main ablities are super observation (he can see far away and in great detial in slow motion) two, it can copy techniques of others.
  3. MC's main combat style that don't rely on his eyeball are lighting style "jutsus".
  4. If this isn't enough then around chapter 500 he gets Kamui like ability... namely he can teleport small objects into his own dimension within the eyeball and then sent those object outward... while doing so there is space whirlpool happening.
So yea, if someone did read Naruto then they will see the similarities... sadly his character ain't like that at all and naturally... more>> as an MC his best ability in the end is the universal plot armor.

Oh well, the story is decent cultivation storyline like any other. It's not a gem but it is decent so it's worth a read. It's quite slow placed though only after 500 chapter + does MC finally goes off to journey through the grand world and because there are only 600 chapters translated, I stopped at this point waiting for more in the future. <<less

Honestly, The first 50 chapters are really irritating and depressing to read because every chapter there's someone saying like "You are too arrogant! I will kill you!" So I can understand people giving this low ratings. But after those 50 chapters (trust me!), the story will slowly develop from "cringey cliché" novel to "exciting to read" cliché novel haha. If you like reading novels like Martial World, ATG (w/o romance) , Spirit Realm and other wuxia novels, You will certainly like this.

Pros: Great World Building, Calm and Smart Protag, Exciting... more>> Fight scenes, Power hierarchy is well explained

Cons: Romance is almost non existent (till c520), Cliche s*upid no brain enemies.

English is not my first language so... sorry for my bad english lol <<less

King of Gods is a refreshing novel in that the protagonist is smarter than the usual "you offended me? I will kill you" in that he actually actively avoids going too far when he deals with his enemies. Sure, there are the arrogant "Strong Cultivator Seniors" and "Old Powerful Seniors" but the protagonist deals with them all in a satisfying way - even if sometimes, you have to wait for 200+ chapters for it to happen.

With regards to romance, there is a hint of romance but it isn't until the... more>> 400s that the protagonist actively starts to think about it, even if it was because of
Spoiler

an earlier circumstance that he wanted no part of.

[collapse]
There are a lot of beauties that appear in the story but most of them end up being kicked in the face (sometimes he really does kick them in the face) by the protagonist which I find to be great.

In terms of cultivation levels and speed, I think that the novel is decently paced in that at 499, nobody is at the level where they can "Literally destroy the world if they thought about it".. Sure, everyone is dozens if not hundreds of more times powerful than everyone else in the earlier chapters, but their level of power is somewhat grounded compared to other "OP Protagonists and their OP Worlds"

All in all, King of Gods is an enjoyable read and I spent a good solid week reading the novel from Chapter 1 to 499. Now I have to patiently wait for the translators to catch up.

4/5 for me. <<less

If you read this and are contemplating getting into this novel then my advice is unless you've got a fair bit of weed and someone's willing to read this to you while you've called your local pizza place in advance and are having a pizza and milkshake deliverered to coincide with your munchies while your partner massages your "family jewels" in light of you also winning 1st division lotto then I'm afraid you will definitely will not enjoy this at all.

The translator didn't lie, the story is getting really interesting past chapter 200. I love the pet, really funny lool!

Spoiler

The Pet : This cat is pretty smart and sly, teaming with MC to trick people. Splitting the spoils 50-50. Can predict the future by flipping a coin. It makes the story really funny.

MC : MC is a native of this world and his parents are true mortals. Unlike his pet, he isn't really smart but he is decisive. He did have some friends and got pampered by his different backers (lol). Also he is (still) not interested in romance, so he ran away from a certain marriage, angered his future 'father-in-law' and got a 'wanted' through the country. (Lol)

Story : The tournaments are quickly done, so you won't be found it as annoying as other novels, but this is still pretty exciting. MC isn't the only genius. There have several true genius as talented as MC and they still appears later in the story, instead of enemies, they are more rivals and some of them are potential love interests. This novel isn't really focused on fight, this is more adventure and power up with a slight comedy sometimes. So if you expected lot of fights with lot of descriptions, this isn't probably your kind of novels.

[collapse]

In short, I love this novel and I recommend it.

___

Edit : Unfortunately later it starts to become more and more repetitive. I read until chapter 1000+ but starting from chapter 800, I lose more and more my interest to this novel. <<less

Great wishfulfilment novel from beginning to end. If you don't want to see how MC raise from weak boy in a backcountry to the literally God of the World, then why would you even be here? This is the best part of the Chinese novels, if you want just the story, then there are a lot of west and Japanese books with deep and complex storytelling, but there are almost no such strength ride like here. This is just weak to strong story without all these things which can distract... more>> you from it. There is no such cruelty like in Martial God Asura, there is no super harem like in Against the God, there is no inconsistent power levels like in Emperor Domination, this is straightforward like RPG, but with its unique moments. If you liked these mentioned novels, then you'll probably like it as well. <<less

Well this novel actually not too bad at early chapters even I feel this is quite interesting. But sadly, the more stronger the MC the more s*upid MC would be. What annoying is author describing how smart and high intelectual this MC while actually he can solve so many problems with simpler move.

The wise level of this MC too low, he let off the enemies that he should kill and killed the unimportant person with high priority.
The MC is too passive, I can accept one or two but while... more>> the ret*rd enemies trying to kill MC all the time it just too annoying. Tbh I think with his "smartness" like author telling all the time and all the OP and unique skills he has it should be able to make the first move. Author seems like obsessived to absolute power while actually in the some situations the MC can use some tricks to defeat enemies

So many ret*rd and unreasonable enemies, it just like the author trying to make enemies to provoke MC with ret*rd reasons. And the description of each characters and skills are too bad. <<less

Ho, In one line, this is your usual Xianxia trope. tr*sh MC, gets godly artifact, turns OP, gets bullied, teaches the bully lesson, bully's relatives come, defeats them.... and blah blah.

So you get nothing new, nothing special. The only thi g you get is satisfaction of reading one more Xianxia. Currently we are in the early few chapters, so difficult to say whether it will continue to remain 'okay' or go downhill.

One star cut, since this is nothing original.

Might edit later on.

Has this novel been bomb reviewed by bots ?

I thought it was an okay read with the high amount of positive but it’s just so bad omg.

MGA is super cliche but still an okay read; this one ? It’s cliche * 1000000000

I hate this. Everybody is out there to get him and his world down to his clan is filled with scum that go out of their way to get him and the worst is whenever he meets a woman and talk for a bit immediately there’s a scum that... more>> wants to fight him because they talked lmao like get a life jfc. No characters depths, and is so damn predictable.

The only positive outcome I got from reading this is to not trust the review numbers on the left side but scroll down to read reviews of actual humans before getting into a novel. <<less

King of Gods was a novel I had high expectations for, sadly while the start looks promissing, the end result is quite of a letdown.

The main character is interresting at first, being an intelligent protagonist with great analytical skill. Sadly, his cleverness tends to leave place to pure power play, especially in the latter part of the story. Still, it is good to find a character who knows when to fight, when to use stealth and when to run away. The other fine characters are his two love interrests (who... more>> remain relevant for those whole novel and are well written enough, although the romance itself feels it is missing parts and is never a main focus of the plot), his friend Xin Wuheng (who appears sporadically, but has an aura of mystery that makes him interresting for most of the novel), and his familiar the Little Thieving Cat (A wonderful secondary character who provides most of the comedy relief of the story). Alas, the rest of the cast feel quite bland, severely lacking deepth, and obviously mostly cut out of the same mold (both friends and foes). Even the last main antagonist has trouble making himself appealing.

The story is good, even very good in the first third of the novel, but latter fall into the trap of covenient, classic xianxia plot points and repetitions. The various arcs seems mostly detached from each others, particuliarly during the transitions between the different "stage" of the world. The last big "world plot" appears mostly out of the blue in the latter quarter of the novel, but it finishes with a rushed, insatisfactory ending, and even the dozen post-ending chapter can't take away the sour aftertaste.

The power system is okay for this kind of novel, although not remarkable in any way.

The translation is usually of high quality, both the one by Thunder and the one by Hypersheep325, with only the occassional typo. I did not follow this novel regularly, so I can't judge of the delays during the initial translation run.

To sum things up, King of Gods is a very fine novel at first, with his good main character who actually uses his brain, but it falls quickly into the usual tropes of the genre. Beside the MC, his cat and Xin Wuheng, the cast is bland (with just the two love interrests being a bit more colorfull), the romance feels incomplete, the narrative mechanisms are used and overused after the first half of the novel, the ending is rushed and the post-ending chapters can't make up for it. Thank to a high level translation, we still got an above average piece of Chinese fantasy, but not much more. So my final verdict is a 6 out of 10. It is not a bad novel, but there's definitely betters around, on Webnovel and elsewhere.

P.S: Thanks to Fast Food Restaurant for writting this novel, and to Thunder and Hypersheep325 for translating it. <<less

Reviewer above me is in denial!

Positives & Negatives
+ Becomes far more interesting later after 300 chapters
- Starts slow and has repetitive tournaments.
- Character always manages to find an opponent just one realm above his own... yeah okay...
Everything is not bad though, however, not super innovative.
If you are bored and have nothing left to read, and want to read a different tale about a guy with a sharingan, then this is for you. <<less

Its a good novel to read. The one thing though that I hate is how the MC is always in a tournament. Like in his clan, city, sect, thirteen sects, northern country, dragon blessing. Main reason why I scored it a 3, god knows probably another series of tournament arcs are coming up. Other than that, its a good to read.

Alright, first I'd like to start off by saying that this novel is absolutely fantastic. It takes classic tropes that we all recognize if we read even a few other novels and it makes it seem like they're brand new. You've got the arrogant young master, you've got the main heroine, you've got the OP ability's and all of it is AMAZING. There is no classic plot fails, there's no moment where you're reading this novel and you're just really pissed because of something s*upid. I have not come across... more>> that feeling a single time and that is INCREDIBLY RARE FOR ME. Most importantly. This novel does not DROWN YOU OUT WITH CLASSIC NOVEL TROPE WORD COUNT FILLER. This novel does not repeat the same basic information four times in 3 paragraphs. It doesn't change one or two words to say the same thing over and over again. There is barely any paragraph chapter buffer in my opinion that has become so rampant in many other novels these days.

Some people are unsatisfied with the amount of world depth in other reviews. They focus on the names of "abilities" and the sequence of fight scenes. I would like to address this.

Spoiler

The abilities that are mentioned in this novel are very ambiguous and that's the POINT. We all love the idea of finding a random skill book in the world like in an RPG game and we can just instantly learn it by reading it a few times, however, that's not how things work. Yes, in the beginning, you get a few abilities that have basic effects and such, however, later on in the novel, you start to move away from these types of things and start to embrace the character building their own abilities. This is done by the characters "comprehension". The reason why the abilities in the beginning of the novel are so ambiguous is specifically for this transition and I believe that this transition is a GOOD THING. It gives the novel a more "surreal" feeling. I mean sure, you can write a novel and have the main character randomly find amazing secret techniques in caves and hidden realms and then have him become unrivaled throughout the world, or you can have the main character have his own comprehension, his own unique shtick and have him come up with things on his own. Which novel has deeper character building?

Spoiler

Another thing people seem to be unsatisfied with is the fighting for "10 moves, 100 moves, 200 moves" explanations and such. I personally feel like this is a rather moot point and that these people are complaining just to complain about something, but in the interest of promoting a really amazing novel, I will respond to them with sincerity. When I read the sentence "They fought for 100 moves." in my mind, I imagine Dragon Ball Z with it's generic punching and kicking fast-moving scenes and just the genericness of that entire shtick. It is literally just a generic fight scene where the characters are punching and kicking at each other for a specific amount of time. The way the author described this particular aspect may or may not have been done well, however in this particular case I don't see a way that could have explained it in a better way.

[collapse]
[collapse]

For my closing statement, I would like to reiterate that this novel is just fantastically written. A true work of wuxia written in the right way. It is very rare in this day and age to find something this well written and I beg all of you to take a look at it.

My only complaint and this may or may not be a deal breaker for some of you reading this, however, I feel like this novel is being translated incredibly slowly. Some of you might get angry and say that I should be happy with what I've got and not complain about the speed of the translation, however, this is a serious point that has to be made. This novel is being translated at 3 chapters per week with a possibility of 3 bonus chapters based on donations of 30 dollars. If we do the math and say all 6 chapters are translated per week we come out with just under 5 years and I believe a little over twenty-three thousand seven-hundred dollars to have the novel translated at it's fastest possible speed. If we count without donations, it will take this novel over 9 and a half years before it is fully translated. This novel has 1500+ chapters and only being translated three times per week. I'm not saying the people over at GT are lazy. I'm not saying I'm not grateful to Thunder and the rest of them for doing this work for us. However, the people at GT are not equipped to translate a novel of this size quickly. They simply do not have enough hands. If I could translate, I'd be over there helping them do it myself, but I can't. All I can do is write this review and hope to get a few fans that are able to help to go over there and help them with this project. Apart from that, it might be nice to see QI pick this novel up at their website and translate it over there. <<less

This novel has an Over-powered MC and some cliche plot... no doubt.... but its written very well.. its good points are as follows:

1) MC is likable.. he is not a simp and his personality is consistent throughout.. no hypocricy and less idiocy

2) almost every storyline gets a proper build with character introduction before it takes place which builds good hype

... more>> 3) it also has a proper satisfactory ending and no loose ends

4) it has cliche plot but it is not without twists and turns which other novels dont have hence it feels refreshing....

5) Also this novel treats all characters with respect.. it has some great likable characters which are not forgotten as the plot progresses.. also their power-ups are not BS and have logic in how they are keeping up.. so less annoyance from lack of logic

6) This novel has the best pet of all time which has personality, cuteness, , plot significance and originality

7) Romance is slow and long drawn but very different from other novels.. Its not the best but not very annoying either.. also it does not ruin or overshadow the main plot

other points are :

1) Same kind of plot is repeated ocassionally in this novel but wierdly its still not that booring.

2) Power system and MC powers are very interesting but it can also feel redundant at times.... If this novel did not had redundant plot elements it would have been a 5 out of 5 for how good it is written...

One of the best chinese novels I have ever read not the best but definitely very enjoyable...4 out of five <<less
