There was no meeting with a God, no cheat skills, just a sudden reincarnation. There was no time to find his bearings either, he was in a life-or-death trouble from the start that would somehow result in being employed as a valet to a vain youngster from an aristocratic family.
He would, in time, discover an astonishing truth about this new world and vow to fight it with all his might to protect the people important to him. No matter how reckless that would be.

Even though I didn't really like how Vincent died.
However, it does mean that I think this a great read. The translation done by HM is genuinely superb, and the writing is clean and easy to read through. The story starts off pretty simple but it's a typical isekai plot. At least at first. The prose and translation is done very well, and that's enough for most people to not care if it's all that generic at the start. The plot starts to pick up pretty quickly soon after the first chapters. I really appreciate the world building that went into this story. There's a lot of politics going on and countries involved and the story slowly feeds you the info to let you understand what's important at the moment, but not overwhelm you with walls of text. By the time you reach the end of the first major arc, you'll understand a lot of the scale of the conflicts going on. Characters are also done surprisingly well, seeing as how this starts off as an isekai. I don't wanna spoil too much, but the amount of side characters that get actual development was a real surprise to me. You might not like all the characters but you can't argue that a large majority of the important characters are fleshed out, and I have to give praise to that.
Especially, especially Arnold's growth as a character. A character you're meant to despise ends up growing up to be a very competent ruler and realizes the error of his ways. Definitely one of my favorites.
- The stiff translation
- The abrupt changes in personality of the MCs
- The MC hiding his abilities
- The s*upidity of the MCs and nonsensical decisions. Author's efforts to make a situation dramatic and interesting.
Essentially its a lot amateur writing in comparison to the vast majority of novels here. One thing I like though is the excess sarcasm and blatant... more>>Now that I've gotten that out of the way, I must say that I quite enjoy this story. It's really rather interesting in how the main character never seems to fully get out of his disadvantageous situation that most transmigrated individuals are thrust into, if they are not overpowered. While we're on the topic of overpowered, while he definitely becomes very powerful very quickly, it's not to the point of being completely invincible and crushing the senior generation. Then again, I guess I'm not in a position to say this, since I'm not that far in. Now, the real selling point of the novel, for me at least, was the characters.
The sheer amount of hatred I felt towards Maria after I realized that she was assisted by the world, treated everyone as NPCs (even though she clearly knows she was reincarnated into this world) and can't seem to get out of the mindset that treats this like an otome game (I know she's doing it to defeat the devil in the end, but she doesn't need to build a harem, does she?) Other objects of hatred were the world and Arnold. Still hate Maria more, though.
