A pill, a tiny capsule encased in a biologically harmless water-soluble shell; A shell whose very existence is a result of a century of research and technological advancement. A manmade synthesis of Chemicals and product of complex processes.

And in the end, a means to an end.

A way to deliver a concoction of other Chemicals for an agenda; Vitamins for nutrition, medication for treatment, or… perhaps more.

We trust that what we eat won’t do us harm, and trust that those who are responsible for its creation had the best of intentions. But in the end, it is difficult or perhaps impossible to truly tell what lies within a pill.

That is until one day I entered a research institution as a test subject. All I did was swallow a pill I was told to be a health supplement.

Very cool modern slice-of-life novel, basically MacGyver (1985, 2016) + Limitless (2011, the movie), with a strong basis in science (mostly) !
I think author borrowed some elements from the hilarious Kdrama "History of a Salaryman" (2012), which was a nice surprise.
As far as modern day korean novels go, this is on par with "Top Management".

PREMISE:
MC enters a research program and gains a superpower via a pill, only it isn't just raw intelligence, but the knowledge of Chemistry and the power to identify/manipulate chemical reactions. He uses... more>> his newfound abilities in very unique modern-day settings (much like MacGyver).

CHARACTERS:
MC is initially a down-and-out guy struggling to make ends meet, much like Bradley Cooper was in Limitless. He's a decent person but knows he's on the bottom rung of the social ladder. As his cognitive abilities improve, he doesn't become a douchebag like Bradley Cooper was. Instead, he tries to improve and put his newfound abilities to good use, helping others purely out of compassion and goodwill.
And best of all, MC genuinely develops a love for chemistry.
Spoiler

An excerpt from making it snow in an indoor mall event...

A particle of snow became focused by Jungwu's vision.
It was transparent and flat. It was a more perfect six-sided wings than any other snowflake he had ever seen.
'Oh, you were made so well. Bye bye~'
The perfectly pure and clean snowflake gently floated down to the plaza below.

[collapse]

Side characters are well written with distinct personalities and are established professionals in their own line of work (doctors, scientists, singers, regular working Joes, etc). Heart-warming interactions with MC, nobody falls head over heels for MC unlike other shounen novels.

WRITING:
The pacing of the story is a little fast, MC goes from zero to hero pretty quick. But the story and writing more than makes up for it. You almost feel like you're watching a light-hearted korean drama rather than reading a novel.
MC's ability to visualize molecules and chemical reactions is written with amazing magical realism.
Dialogue is great without too much exposition. Fantastically beautiful chemistry-related analogies that really make the subject come alive, especially when MC is explaining his solutions to others.
The technical details/jargon are amazing, I can only guess how hard it is to translate to English. It's a refreshing change from most superpowers, makes you wonder if author used to be a chemistry major or a MacGyver fan.

SLOW UPDATES
Unfortunately the lack of translators and slow updates is a real problem. I understand the translator has health issues as well. Unless someone else picks it up quick it's gonna languish. <<less

It's really interesting and especially its concept is particularly more so unique than others. Definitely promising and definitely a must read. A thumbs up for the author and translators for this novel.

Extremely fresh concept for this type of genre. It doesn't have the reincarnation with all knowledge and it doesn't have the BS game system (although entertaining). The idea of having the MC gaining OP knowledge and abilities (not referring to fighting) but through the use of Science (BS science but at least it makes more sense (kind of) than randomly reincarnating or randomly getting a gaming ability) is definitely more refreshing and interesting.

4.5/5 Very interesting work fantasy novel with some slight superpowers mixed in.

MC takes a drug that gives him amazing knowledge and abilities to see and manipulate electrons and atoms. The characters are interesting and the dialogue and character interactions are fun. The wish fulfillment/lucky coincidences aren’t enough to detract from the story. A fun light read that hints at more depth to come.

Characters 5/5. Storyline 4.5/5. Length 4/5. It needs more chapters to give a full review.

Surprisingly entertaining. Especially considering I never liked chemistry much.
You don't need to know anything about chemistry to enjoy this novel.
Some of the parts are magical rather than actual chemistry.

The entertaining parts come from the MC's interactions with others. This might sound vague, but you'll see.

AFTER 2 YEARS OF HIATUS, THIS NOVEL HAS BEEN DROPPED. NO ASH EVEN REMAINED. USELESS TO FOLLOW.

Spoiler

A refreshing novel from the refreshing view. So far so good, especially after tons of xianxias, emperors, daos, cultivations, . Writing style is good. Translation is good IF the TL don't drop it beforehand.

As it's only 10+ chapters, I refrain from 'summarize' what happem inside. Better read it by yourself.

BTW, though it's seemed like weird sci-fi view of today, who know what'll be by tomorrow? Compare to the absurd sci-fi novel of the yesteryear when the MC has the ultra-ultra-sophisticated phone size less than a palm that's capable of keeping the whole world's knowledge & can take thousands of pictures in the dusk & transmit all to the HQ half world away in less than 10 minutes, this "chemistry" is more real than hallucination.

Edit: What's with the random update after like 5 years lol (by the same translation site too).

I love this. Yes, some parts are a bit unrealistic, but it is a fun read. I am sure many of you guys will enjoy this. It may not be your cup of tea, but it introduces topics many of us may not have read on novel updates.

The beginning was a bit confusing for me, but it later became smoother and easier to understand. The main character seems to come into his... more>> new abilities way too easily but it is very fun to find out how he uses his abilities and learn the mysteries behind the previous researcher. <<less

This novel reminds me a lot of the movie Limitless. It will be interesting to see what direction the author will take this novel, but so far it's a big refreshing break from the Isekai and Xianxia/Wuxia types of novels. As it's still early goings, the author spent most of the table setting: introducing characters and depth steadily. After the first or second arc, the author's style and character development in conjunction with the plot will become a lot more apparent and a more solid review would be made. But... more>> as of right now, it's a solid writing style that is very easy to understand and envision oneself in. <<less

I don't think I need to add anything to the other reviews, this is a story that's a little off the beaten path. It has weird magic/tech attributes packed into a normal current styled world. Well written with decent character and plot progression.
