I Reincarnated as a Noble Girl Villainess But Why Did It Turn Out This Way? (WN)

Eliza Kaldia, who reincarnated as a noble girl villainess in a fantasy otome game, was stuck in a world that seemed far from her image of how noble girls should be living, as the fated events of the game were still far off while she remained a child. In the first place, it was suspected if she could even live to make it to the school setting of the game. Due to changes in the situation of the neighboring country which never appeared in the original game, the world became nothing like the flowery school life from the game. It was a world where even young girls had to take up weapons. How did it turn out this way…

I don’t have any cheat-like abilities. I can’t use magic. Though, my sense of ethics might have become a little twisted due to being reincarnated.

this novel is really good and I would definitely recommend it to any “realistic territory management” reader. Novel resembles the overlord with its dark MC, which not initially evil but doesn’t blink an eye while genociding. My only issue with such “reincarnated from birth” novels is that, there is no way a 3-5 years old can kill 10 people with a halbert. Fortunately there is not much of this in this novel but there are some in earlier chapters.

It's a pretty good novel. It's rare that you get something similar to this. A reincarnated person in the body of a small child who isn't extremely cold-blooded and overpowered. The main character is just a more intelligent child due to the whole reincarnation thing.

Furthermore, I enjoy how in-depth the author goes into the main characters emotions and traumas. It isn't just one arc and everything gets resolved, its a recurring theme.

One thing I do have to say about other reviews is based on how incredulous the story is based... more>> on the main characters young age. Back during medieval times it wasn't particularly uncommon for children around the age of seven to start training with a sword, it really isn't all that surprising for someone with a huge amount of responsibilities in the future to have basic training akin to a soldier. Especially so due to the main characters precarious circumstances regarding reputation.

However, this novel does have some problems. The first one being pacing. It's rather slow, however as some other reviews mentioned there will be some tension/conflict at the end of a chapter, then the next will basically be a monologue about how the character already solved half the problem or the problem in its entirety. This really ruins the pacing and also coincides with the other bad point about this novel. It never goes that in-depth. For example, the translator would hype up the school arc that was upcoming, then there would be 5 characters introduced, a problem occurs, problem gets solved, and then they kinda just forgot about it.

Overall, its a decent read but it really fell off near chapter 200, so I'm going to have to drop it.

Edit 1: Looking back at this novel, I do have a few more criticisms. One of them being the "enemy turned ally" trope thats used quite a lot. It all seems forced. Your telling me that a child who killed her entire family at like two years old is giving mu*derers and people who attacked her second chances. It just doesn't seem like something she would naturally do, and ends up being forced.
Spoiler

Also, I hate the way this novel does "mysteries". Something "mysterious" will happen, maybe the main character will comment on it, and then never look back on it until it becomes relevant again. It's really irritating, especially when people used magic on her, called her a chosen one, and she decides not to investigate this whatsoever.

First to address some common complaints I've seen in the reviews:

1. It's unrealistic for a 2 year old baby to ... more>>
Spoiler

be capable of killing her entire family.

[collapse]

Well...
Spoiler

at 2 years old most babies have already been walking around for around a year and are capable of communicating, a 2 year old going out to pick a flower isn't physically impossible. Recognition of the poison from her past memories isn't an issue either as your age doesn't really affect that. The only unlikely things here are being left unattended long enough to pick up a flower and getting access to the kitchen. With a bit of plot padding that shouldn't be too big of a deal though.

[collapse]

2. Why would they
Spoiler

throw a baby into a forest? What if she dies?

[collapse]

I don't think the readers were paying particular attention to the story at this point because it's plenty obvious that
Spoiler

everyone, including the ones in the military who threw her into the forest hate her. This was, at best, a hazing, and at worst, a low key attempt at mu*der. They feel thankful to the regent though so they're not going to outright stab her, just put her into a dangerous situation and if she dies, then oh well, what a shame. Her well-being was not a concern at all for pretty much anyone in the territory other than the Earl and Kamil.

[collapse]

3. Why would they send a noble kid
Spoiler

to lead an army?

[collapse]

Spoiler

... For experience? This is fairly common to send a kid out into war with an actual capable seasoned veteran beside them as an 'advisor'. On paper the kid leads the army, gets merits, and experience learning from the seasoned soldier who the army trusts and can give correct commands to not get wiped out, as well as to protect the noble kid. Sure our main character may start early, but she's also in extraneous circumstances so it's fine.

[collapse]

Now onto the actual review

It does some things fairly well:

    1. Doesn't shy away from mu*der. I get violence is not always the answer, but sometimes you just don't have the time to spend 20 chapters reforming a criminal when you can just cut their head off in a single sentence. It lets the focus shift to more important things on a greater scale like political maneuvering. It allows killing as an efficient way to remove problems, but at the same time it's not an omnicidal maniac, there's a good balance between the two.
    1. The main character actually has to deal with public opinion in a realistic manner. Some other novels, usually the main character just finds a lost kitty or something and suddenly the whole town loves them (exaggerating but you get the idea). The main character here had to
      Spoiler

actually march through people slinging mud at her, and slowly gain back their trust

      [collapse]
Some aspects I didn't like:

    1. Characters are a bit stiff, this is probably the biggest issue with the novel. Not sure if this is an issue with the writer or translator, but characters in general seem rather distant, unemotional, and generally don't seem like they're really 'alive'. They're feel like puppets who just perform their role.
    1. Lots of 'foreshadowing' that just involves name-dropping some esoteric term and then moving on. Like I get you want to foreshadow some stuff, but this just sounds so weird to suddenly have random edgy names pop up like it's super important and then never explain it for the longest time. It's just totally unnecessary and jars me out from the story. The only time that the foreshadowing was done well was
      Spoiler

when miss su*cide bomber slept holding hands with the main character. That was some foreshadowing that came back with a vengeance.

      [collapse]
Overall the story is pretty good, can be a bit slow at times, characters and reactions are realistic if not a bit bland. <<less

This novel is a real gem. At first I'm quite not liking the settings based on the sypnosis. But after delving into the story it is worthwhile. I enjoy how everything falls into place. I will not spoiled anything but I guaranteed it will be an interesting read.

NOTE: This is not a fluffy rom-com, this is a war story.

Eliza is reincarnated into the villain of an otome game and kicks off the story by mu*dering her entire family. She becomes the head of a family as a toddler and has to guard the border of the kingdom. She goes through difficult training with the soldiers and learns how to issue commands and manage her domain. She also learns how to deal with crafty political events.

Spoiler

I absolutely love her relationship with Ratoka, her body double. The two have started to think alike without even realizing it. They are such cute twin-like possible siblings!

[collapse]

The otome game's heroine should be appearing soon (I'm currently at chapter 204), so it will be interesting to see what happens next.

Spoiler

It should be noted that Eliza, who already dresses and acts like a boy, really looks like a boy now that her hair is short. Will the heroine be tricked into a yuri ship?! I can't wait to find out.

[collapse]

Weaknesses for this series would be the occasional awkward pacing and slow development. That said, the chapters are pretty short, so it is a faster read than it looks. <<less

I have to say, amongst other reincarnated otome genre that I have ever read, this one is the one that appeal the most. Even though the story is dark and there's despair too, it also tell us about the hardship of the protagonist. I have to say, this is one of the best novel that I have ever read. Although it is a bit slow, it also shows the process of something. The sad thing is, the otome arc started around c220+, I heard. The school arc only started during... more>> c150 so I think the development is too slow. Although, I like this and the author's view about politics. It is a bit similar to Youjo Senki and Duke's daughter in a sense.

Spoiler

im just sad that Kamil died in the story... TTATT

I have such mix feelings on this series. Sometimes there's s*upid death. Sometimes there's a MC doing really weird s*upid things. Shes given huge responsibility young and has a modern education (that's fading in her memory) There's so much on the table to do and get done it's a little nuts. But she doesn't which is fine. She doesn't make a note book before her memories begin to fade and figure out things and possiblities on the table. She is weirdly anti proactive with her knowlege. At the same time... more>> she brings things up all the time "barely" to act on it. It's frustrating. VERY VERY frustrating to read. There's so few characters to just whole heartly like because either the writing is weak or the translation is weak because author or translator doesn't do a great job of building the humanity of a single person well. I do care about "army buds" though as a group. But in an amorphous blob kind of way.

The writing doesn't have the skill of say apthocary diaries, or bookworm. The setting building is weak. But the story and the idea of what could be is compelling as all hell. I want to know more and pretty good storytelling. The first person and third person is weak but the plot outshines the poor writing. I'm so frustrated by this book. Because I love army building and we get so few army building books. But it really isn't an army building book and it's not really a true Otome so far. It's not a slice of life, it's not a kingdom building. It's not a proactive protagonist because girl does a poor job acting on modern knowlege. It's so hard to place this book. It reminds me of that N*azi Tanya book Youjo Senki (Saga of Tanya the Evil). But Tanya is extremely pro active. So, chapter by chapter early on the frustration in this book builds as it's in that not very good not very bad range. But the plot choices (or what could be) I should say has me hooked. I put 4 stars but it's really 3 star book as a whole with a 4 star plot that is being kind of slow walk poor used. When I get to Chapter 150-200. I'll either DNF give up or if it improves I'll update my review to say you should hang on. Today is 12/6/2023. If I don't come back before the end of the month. I probably either really hated this book or DNF. <<less

I love the translation work, it is really good, and love the wicked twist on the now heavily used villainess otome plot. But my problem with the series is how tiresomely monotone it is. It is filled with monologues that just DRAGS the chapters. The descriptions are very vague and common but still use so many words to describe them. Also agree that the MC seems so unrealistic, all present factors considered. I guess I'm a bit biased since new web novels are usually fast-paced, but the author's way of... more>> storytelling just isn't for me. <<less

I am so loving this!! The development of characters and plots and everything was intricately done. The only time I got frustrated was with some of the poorly translated chapters by Asian Hobbyist that made some of the cool characters sound lousy. I don't want to be mean. I appreciate all the hard work put into translating this and I would rather this work be translated somehow than not at all considering that there were only about 20chapters or mistranslation out of 242 chapters. And the most important part is... more>> that the translation got really good around ch240 or something and I am really excited for the pageant that will come 🥰

I hope to read more of this. This is really good with very heavy josei at the beginning with the 'somewhat' otome/shoujo part starting at around 240+chapters. <<less

I found it very enjoyable until it got swapped to the new translator. It’s hard to navigate and I’ve just given up on finishing it.

(If you don’t mind flipping through chapters split between other chapters with what almost appears to be randomized numbers, then the new site won’t be bad for you.)

Obligatory review.

Very satisfied as I have read up to date (doesn't happen often) my only pet peeve is that the MC is a bit too clueless at some stuff when she is portrayed clever and smart. Especially when such stuff is in her face. I can give a small example that is inconsequential and not spoilery but the essence is the same. Though good thing is this happened a few times afaik

Spoiler

When she wanted to marry of her loyal knight to someone and was in a pickle on who to choose and gave out specific conditions that said person must pass. She realized that the conditions were VEEERY specific and doubted it would be easy to find such a person.

When in reality said person was right under her nose and even the only other knight under her services. Such a clumsy yet insignificant oversight as it's pointed out later by the original knight which is supposed to be the clumsy one haha.

Anyways really its a tiny thing but there are other similar things in bigger scale that happens which is a bit annoying and slightly breaks immersion but overall has no impact on the story other than lengthening it.

I've read up to Ch15 so far: it’s getting into some crazy territory, if you like ending chapters asking: WHAT!? It’s a good series to read. Definitely worth the time and waiting so far. I feel a big mystery coming on.

this looks different from the other novels with similar settings where the MC is reincarnated into a game character. I give it 5/5. Might change later as more chapters come out.
