They say Gentleman Xiao Yao (carefree) Liu Feng is a famed righteous pugilist. He himself thought that even if he isn’t considered noble and benevolent, he is at least of honourable character.

But only when he met her, did he realise that he is very well capable of being such a lecherous man. At every little moment he is constantly wanting to take advantage of her, always trying to touch her soft slender hands. It’s hopeless, who told this lady to just be so interesting, causing his heart to helplessly be moved by her—-

Her appearance looks like that of a refined lady from a well off background, but in reality she is nothing like that inside. Not only highly skilled in martial arts, her sharp tongue is also highly skilled, capable of angering people to a whole new boiling point.

Her ways of doing things is also extremely bold, completely treating the principle of impropriety between men and women like an old fart. He had only jokingly invited her to sleep with him, yet she actually pats the bed beckoning him to attend to her (?) Even going to the point of shooing him out the room after eating him dry, finding him to be too obstructive on the eye, what a way to shoot down his self-esteem.

Ai~ to fall for such a unique girl, causing him to be filled with joy one moment, and filled with sorrow the next. Overjoyed when he has her by his side, sorrowful when she acts so elusive. If that was not enough, she didn’t even leave a single note behind and disappeared without a trace, causing him to become like an abandoned husband searching for his wife.

Little do they know that this is an important test to see if these two people can be together…..

A masterful piece of jianghu-wuxia romance. If there is one story in this site that can be made into a movie, this can be it. Written in a graceful style, the translator should be praised for being able to preserve much of the subtleties and force of the prose. Of course there are some odd phrases that can’t translate well from Chinese (“like a fish with oxygen deficiency” – I guarantee you will laugh when you come across this line in the novel), but everything else is translated with much... more>> care and precision. Footnotes of some of the more obscure terms and proverbs help to broaden the reader’s knowledge as well.

The story’s main protagonist is the myterious Qu Qing Yin, who had a chance encounter with the leading man of the jianghu (the martial underworld), Liu Feng. Intrigued by her blunt but charming nature, Liu Feng can’t help but be captivated by her. Surrounding their meeting is a major jianghu event that shadows the entire story. This isn’t a strict wuxia story, rather it is a romantic story set with a wuxia world, where knights-errant roam the country, whose deeds make their names famous or infamous. There is perhaps one actual fight scene described at the very end, all others are merely short displays of what such people can do.

The cast of characters is actually quite small but memorable which is understandable as the novel is actually quite short, with just 10 lengthy chapters each divided in two.

Fans of “To Be Virtuous Wife” could very well enjoy reading this despite the vast difference in genre. Both feature a female lead who is intelligent, sharp-tongued and makes the male character who is supposedly the greatest man of their respective realm pale in comparison. Both novels are about the hesitations before commitment, and the passions elicited once intimacy was achieved. <<less

great premise, refreshing banter between characters that doesn't cut corners at all. However, the male lead leaves something to be desired. I'm quite tired of female leads who are strong, but not as strong as the male lead. Or male leads that have no respect for the female lead. The male lead speaks for the FL, pressures her to do things his way, and ultimately kisses her and touches her against her will when she clearly tells him to let go and stop. Sorry, I just don't enjoy novels where... more>> the ML forces his affections. He hurts her when she doesn't give him answers, he gets angry at her when she literally just shows her independence. She literally just met him and he's already telling her what she can and cannot do. Joking and teasing are completely separate from continuously making le*d and inappropriate remarks with someone who is clearly upset and doesn't want it anymore. No thanks!

The female lead is also written to be a hypocrite. She says things bluntly and with no regard to social norms, yet succumbs to the ML's wishes because she doesn't want to stand out and break social norms. Which one is it, author? Is she a blunt and uncaring FL who does what she wants while offending everyone, or is she a weak-willed FL who does whatever the manipulative ML says because she wants him to save face?

eh, it's ok. Not really worth it, and the "flirting" scenes seem to be written by someone who has never flirted in their life and thinks controlling partners are sexy. <<less

It's a short and easy read, with barely any depth. The kind of story you read for mindless entertainment.

Tbh, the highlight of this story is the female lead. Altho her character still isn't very fleshed out, she's quite funny and true to herself. As for the ML.... I don't really like him tbh. He's a pe*vert who's h**ny all the time for the FL and practically falls in love if not at first sight, at first interaction. Which makes me feel like he just likes her for her "unique personality"... more>> and her body, rather than her as a person.

(He's also consistently pushing her boundaries and basically s*xually harrassing her to the point the FL can't take it anymore and agrees to sleep with him. So yeah. Yuck.)

As for plot.... there really isn't one. There's a mission to catch a r*pist but it's handled in a really rushed manner and tbh most of the story is just the leads interacting and the FL flinging off the ML's annoying fangirls.

The end is also pretty rushed, with FL running away from him and the mystery is revealed about the FL's identity, but it was all rather unnecessary and boring tbh.

One thing I REALLY didn't like is that the FL allows one of the fangirls to be r*ped as a "lesson" since the fangirl wanted the FL to be the one r*ped. OK, her intentions are clearly evil, but there is NEVER any justification for using r*pe as a lesson, sorry. It's disgusting and trivializes a very serious and delicate topic.

In conclusion, this story isn't really good and the characters are more 2D than 3D but their interactions are funny. Still, I wouldn't recommend it tbh, unless you're really bored and need something to pass the time. <<less

The beginning was fine with the mysterious female MC, but it feels like as it end the author made sure that the MC's background are huge. But anyway, it's a great story of a OP woman and a gentleman-turned-to-pe*vert-with-MC man. This story is not much on their relationship as about chapter 5 (?) they already somewhat confess to each other (quite fast I say, like it was just Bang! They're dating) and been "going out". The story is more focus on the hindrance of the MC to be together.

The charm of this story is the witty banter between the characters, as the male lead attempts to endear himself to the sharp-tongued and somewhat closed-off female lead. However giving these conversations priority prevented the story from conveying deeper emotions between the two, especially the female lead. It is also a wuxia series and part of the plot is taking down a rapist. Yet the development in the case and the subsequent battles were severly lacking, being confined to the corners of the story for conversations between the main couple... more>> and various other characters. Overall it was a fun and amusing read, but failed to deliver on everything else aside from humour. <<less

Extremely sweet and short story. I recommend reading if you're looking for something to kill time that's romance, has decent characters, and hilarious banter. MC is strong-willed and sharp-tongued which leads to hilarious interactions between her and the ML.

tldr; funny and witty romance story that's light

I can tell the author tried to create witty dialogue and was hoping the back and forth between the main characters would come off as brilliant and humorous. I don't think I laughed, or even smiled tho

This is not a short novel. Don't look at the fact that out has only 10 chapters. Each chapter is really reaaally long.

I kinda wanna know more about the villain. I also didn't particularly like the 2 main characters, they just didn't grow on me, the story and world building were good tho.

This story was considered okay but not memorable enough to be a re-read material. Many reviewers admonished ML and said that he's ra*ey but I don't think that was the case. Although he indeed harassed MC by forcing a kiss to her but when they did it for the first time, MC consented to it. MC also mentioned that she did it because she also wanted it and she was also interested in ML.

As for the story, the villain was beaten a bit way too easily. Also, MC's other secret... more>> identity

Spoiler

She was the current emperor's cousin.

[collapse]

seemed a bit unnecessary because it didn't affect the story much. Maybe it was just added so MC could disappear for a while and made it more dramatic when MC and ML reunited again. <<less

I've finished reading this novel in the only word I think to describe it was AMAZING. Seriously, the female MC is more bad ass than the male lead. It started with awesomeness and ended with awesomeness. I really recommend this novel.

the MC is pretty unique, having mysterious past and the male lead here as well has mysterious profile. The story is pretty unique, the personality of the characters are not boring, they have reasons that lead to the current personality. I enjoy the story and the comedy here. Too bad, the action scenes are not many here. The romance is not that draggy or cliche. The story is not that long which makes me happy. Recommended if you are looking for romance story.

Finish reading the whole novel. Short compared to other novels, romantically sweet, hilarious/sassy interactions, loveable characters (even the villains and side characters), and witty quotes. Beware of the funny R18 descriptions and I really hope the author would release another novel of the 2nd generation.

I actually enjoyed the concept of the novel. Wished it was more action packed because I would of love to see the FL and ML in more action scenes because

Spoiler

The female lead's master is someone who is strong and powerful. Plus the FL is known to be good at her sword. Would have loved to see her used her sword more in the story. I think we only got to see her use it at the end of the novel but the description and the length of the action scene was really short.

And there is also the ML who is a well known Hero in the Martial art realm but we didn't get to read the ML in any action scenes.

[collapse]

The novel is short so it didn't focus much on the actions scenes but I really felt this novel has potential to be made into an historical, action, romance drama. Recommend giving this a read. And lastly, thank you to the translator (s) for picking this novel up. <<less

The MC is a calm, straightforward and very honest person with no control of spouting the truths (LMAO), I actually like her cool character... while the ML used to be a popular gentleman and unpolished jade (*cough*) but after meeting the MC, he turned into a pe*vert beast who can't take his hands off from the MC. I actually like their banters.

Most supporting characters and "villains" are forgettable and just passing.

Honestly, it was only a 10 chapters-novel but it took me days to finish this compared to other short novels that I can read in one sitting. The translation is very good but I felt that this novel is kinda boring that it didn't incite excitement to read the following chapters. I also kinda feel indifferent with "many" plot twists that were thrown expeditiously.

God the ML is so fricking shameless. He makes me angry and wanna kick his pretentious r*pey ass away. Constantly overriding her decisions though I guess if she really hated it she could go away but the way this is going its "strong female lead that doesn't show her strength bc ML is even stronger". OMG I am so annoyed I hate him so much. I hope he isn't the ML because I hate how he is so loose and gives no thought to how his presence around her makes... more>> her life bad. I dont understand why she doesn't kick him to the curb. Or maybe she is thrown off by how forward he is and is "drawn" to it. TBH I think it is far too r*pey. Though as of this chapter he has yet to go that far but god its annoying, the MC has the personality of a (somewhat funny) doormat. I give the story one star the translation 5 bc you can see the effort that went into translating this. I may come back and read this when I am not so unbelievably pissed off by the first chapters. GOD

I honestly hope he dies D:< <<less

The story was well written but I did not enjoy that much. Perhaps too narrative but lacking lure of imagination. I was hoping for vivid fight scenes or just vivid scenes period but except for the climax everything else was dull, predictable.

It showed a smart hero and a clever heroine but that was all. No character development, no twisted plot, nothing to bait the reader to ask and ponder. As I'ver stated it was well written but it did not make heart beat faster.",)

A great piece of jianghu romance!

I haven't read much of anything like this with a mysterious female OP MC, so my review may be a bit bias. I really like to read about mysterious and strong protagonists so this story was a fascinating adventure full of mystery, politics, and love. All the little tidbits of foreshadowing bring together a satisfying climax and happy ending, but I am still confused about certain parts of the story. For example, what exactly is the background of the ML and how is the male... more>> side character related to the ML? I'm not very good at solving mysteries even though I love reading about them, so I am still confused at this point. As for the ending, I would actually like side stories or a sequel since it ends at a cliffhanger in which another crime is being committed, but oh well. I enjoyed this short story a lot! <<less

Short and sweet. You can finish reading the entire story in less than a day. I recommend it if you're looking for a short and sweet romance with a sharp-tongued heroine. Pros:
Likeable main characters.
Witty banter and flirting.
Fast-paced and easy to read.
Relatively good translation quality. Cons:
Limited number of characters.
The plot/mystery is a little rushed.
Over too quickly. Warning:
It has a couple of very minimal PG-13 scenes. Nothing too graphic. TL;DR:
Read it for the flirting and character interactions. Don't think too hard about the... more>> plot. <<less

2/5, saved by the humorous banters. However, that is all there to it. There is barely any story, only an attempt at a vague story onto which the author can stick events to, so many things that are said to be done at the back to avoid writing anything but banters and beds. The characters are not really fleshed out apart from the MC, but even that, the twist in her identity feels like an afterthought added to make her grand. If you call this romance, there is nothing about... more>> feelings or emotions. The main couple met, attracted and the next thing is rolling on the bed, it feels so similar to how characters in a C class American movie hooking up. For a novel tagged as martial arts, there is barely any fight. The MC killed the villain in 1 stab, the ML didn't fight at all.

Maybe I am expecting too much, since this is a short novel. However, when I think of Our Second Master which is even shorter but oh so good, I am not very sure anymore. Maybe a short novel should have a narrower focus so there is space to present a condensed but more fleshed out story. This one is all over the place. <<less
