Chu Yang, the Ninth Master of the Nine Tribulations Sword, sacrificed almost everything he had for the sake of improving his martial arts, including the love of his life. After spending three years locating the fifth fragment of the Nine Tribulations Sword, he was ambushed by all sides at that very place. Mortally injured with no means of escape, Chu Yang executed a sacrificial technique by plunging the Nine Tribulations Sword into his very own heart. “With the blood of my heart, ten thousand tribulations will collapse!”

After witnessing the death of all his ambushers, Chu Yang’s vision began to darken. At a distance, moments before his death, he saw the mastermind who had plotted his downfall — Mo Tian Ji. With that, his eyes finally closed.

However, with a start, Chu Yang once again awoke to find that he had returned to when he was sixteen years of age! Furthermore, the Sword Spirit of the Nine Tribulations Sword now resided within his Dantian, the energy center of his body! From that very moment, Chu Yang would then begin to right all of his past regrets, and carve his very own legend by fulfilling his destiny as the final Master of the Nine Tribulations Sword, and defeating the Heavenly Devils beyond the realm of the Nine Heavens Continent.

Soo good even now and from what I gather from the spoilers it gets way better. The MC is calm, focused and still kicks ass. The side characters also get their time to shine and the overall beginning is the strongest Ive seen (in xianxia) .

Its a must read.

Although we are only at C18 at the time of this writing, I would like to say that I am really enjoying this light novel. Well written with an intelligent MC and a nice mix of humor. One of the best novels I have read so far, well worth the read!

This is a very long story and I'm only 11% through the whole thing.... but reading 300 chapters still can't be said to be too few... so I'll still write my general thoughts for now! I'd say this is quite an unique story in the sense that it portrays the power of cultivators in a (in my opinion) more realistic light. While cultivators are definitely powerful, they still can't go up against the power of an entire country. Even if someone cultivates to the (currently known) highest cultivation rank, s/he... more>> still can't go against an entire country by themselves... s/he'd even be at a disadvantage since their loved ones might be targeted instead of him/her. This makes it so the MC has to dabble in politics and be smart in order to stay alive and keep those important to him safe... making this novel quite unique. The power of the MC also increases gradually and even when there are jumps in power, they are still not that large. The MC genuinely goes from weak to strong at a stable pace. I still haven't read enough to comment on the romance aspect... except that it is there and it does play a pretty large role. As far as I've read and as far as I've found out from researching about the book on the inter-webs, there doesn't seem to be any ntr of any sort, which I personally think is a good thing since ntr is usually very poorly implemented in novels... as far as I remember Coiling Dragon is the only one that pulled it off well among the books that I've read. Anyhow, overall the novel seems very grounded and logical... logical from a non-real universe/setting standpoint of course... but still logical. It tries very hard to, and succeeds in, creating a very believable and viable universe/setting.

From a linguistic standpoint.... the translating is very good with very few (almost no) grammatical mistakes. At this point I still haven't found any plot-holes... so overall it's an excellent novel if you like smart, cunning MCs who use their brains instead of their brawn when it's possible to do so. The possible flaw of the novel could be that the comedy is sometimes focused on bowel movements... and having the caveman brain that I have, while I roll around laughing at all the jokes... others might possibly find them less funny. Though don't assume this novel is immature simply for that reason... because immature this novel definitely ain't. Anyways, I'd say the novel is definitely worth a read... it definitely won't be something you'll regret reading.

TTNH is an amazing story. There's no question about it. A lot of that is due in part to the author, Fenglin Tianxia. I consider him to be on par with Tang Jia San Shao, the author of the awesome Douluo Dalu series, HJC etc. Both writers have such incredible depth to their stories and to their characters.

Now on the novel. It took me a while to finish the nearly 2700 chapters. Not to say that the novel is too long though. The story is extremely well planned out, with the transitions between places and settings being clearly thought out and very well written. Plot lines are clear, character motivations are clear, and the story has a sinuous, smooth and enjoyable flow to it.

The part that I enjoy the most about the book, and about Feng Lin's writing style, is without a doubt the emotional depth of his characters. Emotions is a major part of what constitutes a great novel, and Feng Lin uses this to great advantage. The emotions of the MC and his companions are constantly shown and highlighted throughout the novel. The brotherhood love that bonds them together, the willingness to die for each other, the sorrows they go through together; so on and so forth. That really helped to keep me grounded in the novel. This is a long way from the atypical slaughtering, raping, bloodthirsty MCs that I've so oft seen in a large number of XianXias. So this was a major refresher for me, an actual HUMAN-like MC, with actual emotions not limited to lust, anger and the need for revenge and vengeance.

The villains are not generic, one-dimensional creatures with a hard-on for making life absolute sh*t for the MC, but are people with actual motivations and emotions to justify their actions. Honestly? This was one of the first times where I've actually seen intelligent Villains in a XianXia, and this was one of the exceedingly even fewer times that I feel sorry for villains. That speaks volumes about how goddamn good Fenglin makes his stories. I have teared up more times reading this book than attempting try not to cry challenges.

The comedy in the novel is also off the charts. I've laughed out loud more than once reading about the jokes made and the antics played by the characters in the novel. The fight scenes and war scenes are amazingly well written. The fast paced fights, the conflict of both men and minds during the wars all contribute greatly to the action part of the novel. Its not simply the MC curb-stomping hundreds of thousands of people at one time, but there are actual tactics and soldiers involved as well.

Though it is a harem type novel, the MC does show his love/appreciation at all of his gals and doesn't just keep them around as s*x toys. I really like the fact that the MC's harem does have a measure of power and are actually strong enough to help him either in battles or with strategies. (Also in bed XD)

Granted, there's gonna be some people who won't really enjoy some of the typical troupes of XianXia. For example, the occasional massive power growths, actual strength exceeding cultivation, plot-armorish luck etc. But, I thought that Feng Lin actually spaced these troupes out very fairly, and the plot doesn't always depend on them to proceed.

If there's one thing I don't particularly like about FLTX's novels, its probably gonna be the ending. It could be just me, but I feel like he has a tendency to rush through to the ending after tying up all lose ends in the plot. It leaves me a little bereft and lacking after reading such rich content and ending along the lines off "They had kids, then brought the whole family and transcended into another dimension".
TL:DR/Conclusion
So all-in-all, TTNH was one of the greatest XianXias I've finished thus far. Its rich in plot, romance, action, politics, comedy and its one helluva emotional roller-coaster ride as well. It was an amazing read, and I'd definitely recommend giving it a read. Though some parts may not translate too well, I think the translators have done an amazing job so far.

This novel is masterpiece, I love all fenglin tianxia works, but this one is my favorite. If you're tired of those sh*t for brain villains in other novel, try this one. If you're tired of those repetitive plots in other novel, try this one. If you're tired of MC who's suddenly out of character and doing some contradictory moronic actions, try this one. If you're tired of MC who doesn't have any clear goals, try this one. If you're tired of those jade skinned angel with star for eyes suddenly... more>> falling for MC for no reason, try this one. No offense but so far I didn't found the story interesting at all.

Oh yes there is political intrigue but author's writing style is poor... very poor. He would "tell" about political conspiracies instead of "showing" them. The characters would explain the conspiracies to each other/discuss.... That's plain bad writing. You have to show the conspiracy in action or let the main character involved in it and let him investigate it. But nope... all the conspiracies would be spoon- fed to us.

Author's jokes only involves fart and snorts... Seriously not a... more>> fan of them.

As for characters: Well, each character would try to tell you that his life is full of suffering. Life is full of struggle for everyone. A beggar's trouble aren't any less than that of a king. For a beggar the difficulty of feeding his family isn't any less than that of a king governing his kingdom. But in this novel author would waste chapters to say that MC and his friends have very tragic past and their life is full of sufferings.

No offense to hardcore fans but I didn't find the series impressive. <<less

If you have read TDG, it is essentially the same intial premiss. God-like item, MC gets mu*dered, is sent into the past by the item, but no longer has it when he is sent back but they know where to find it.

However the plot of the two heavily diverges from there. This novel forces more on dynamics between characters, their goals, and how they deal with what forces oppose them. In this work, the MC realizes that in order to achieve what he wants, he will have to oppose destiny... more>> and rewrite history as he knows it. Although he is extremely smart and cunning, he doesn't know exactly what will happen. This is different from TDG, where the MC seems to know everything and anything, then shits everyone who opposes him. No, it requires a bit more finesse to do what Chu yang does. And as the plot moves along, we get to see into the thoughts and motivations of the cast making this story a lot more deep and memorable. While cultivation is an aspect of this story, when you talk about TTNH it simply isn't just story about how the MC essentially becomes god. So while the initial premise is a lot like TDG, the plot and characterization is much closer to ZTJ in the sense that is slow and meticulous.

Honestly if you have read my reviews, ZTJ is the standard I set for a great novel in this genre. It is the bar for me. And TTNH meets the bar, so I give it a 4/5 <<less

This series indeed interesting. MC are great at manipulation. But the other not idiot either. Romance is build at later stage and it good to read too. Harem is not yet been seen but I think it possible. Writing style also not boring or filled with explanation. Instead, it more about interaction except during fight of course.

BTW, this series is fun to read. I recommend this one.

Review at C149 :
Would seriously recommend this novel if you are looking for something interesting and funny. Although, the MC have been scolding his subordinates for the past 30 chapters, each chapters of lectures is still funny and does not bores the reader. It is by far the funniest novel I have read after the legendary moonlight sculptors and world of cultivation.

This novel is not terrible, but is way overrated.

The Good:

    • Side characters. They have their own personalities, and while I wouldn't go as far as saying they are 3 dimensional, 2.5D is better then most novels in this genre.
    • Side romance. The side characters have romantic interests, so not all females are in love with the MC, the sworn brothers get a piece of the action, and in my opinion the better pieces, cause the MC's romantic life is a terrible mess.
    • Enemies. The novel is not without arrogant young masters, but there are also some very interesting enemies who are motivated by things other than "I want your woman" or "I must be given face"
    • Underneath all the bad stuff there is a good story being told, you just need to get through all the padding to get to it, it is an endurance game, and I'm not sure yet if I will endure.
The Bad:

    • A lot of fluff. I have to skip 50% of the novel to remain sane. I swear some conversations last like 10 chapters and are terribly tedious, and the most mundane things sometimes take dozens of chapters. The MC was once chased though the woods for like 50 chapters. I wish I was exaggerating.
    • The MC's harem is the worst I've ever read. His first love, from his past life, is a loli. I get that they met as adults before he reincarnates/rewinds to a young man, but in this new life he meets her when she is ~9 years old and he is ~16, and while nothing super inappropriate happens, it is still very cringy to read for me. The other 2 love interests so far are super annoying, they hide their love for MC, they hide important facts from the MC, all because they think they know what is in his best interest, to the point where they are cruel to him "for his own good", yet somehow they act like they are the victim, super frustrating to read.
    • Bad Drama. The harem is only one example of bad drama, of things being done for the sake of building drama at the expense of throwing logic out the window, it conflicts with the smart/clever tone the novel tries to set in the rest of the novel, making the forced drama feel even more cringy.
    • When the novel is clever it is a delight to read, but those moments are truly rare, more often then not it fails and it comes across as trying too hard to be clever.

i tried very hard to like this novel, but I just can't.

it starts off great but it becomes extremely tiring to read as you move towards the middle.

this isn't like OEM where the entire novel becomes a book of morals, instead it's full of conspiracies.

... more>> what's sickening is how the MC alone is able to wreck all of these ingenious plans with his plot armor.

the worse part of this novel are the love interests. the long separations are redundant and is just there to make you read more. not to mention that one of the love interest finally reunites with the MC for 2 chapters, only to leave him again which is a slap in the face.

the entire novel talks about how you must challenge yourself to get stronger, and we see the MC and his friends fight with their lives on the line multiple times to get to where they are....

but then their love interest come back from their holiday and is suddenly stronger than the MC and his friends.... <<less

A better version of TDG, starts off slow, but it keeps getting better as the story progresses, which is the opposite of TDG. Also, this story has one of the best antagonist of almost any wuxia/xainxia that I have read. The main antagonist of this story is smart, calculating, and not mindlessly killing anyone that angers him. The antagonist can have his own story, and be viewed as the protagonist from his fellow country men, but since we are rooting for the MC, and his alliance, he becomes the bad... more>> guy. As for the MC, he is not overpowered, and know everything. The MC does have the knowledge of some events he his previous life, and is changing the future little by little, but he does not have a bs technique, pill, etc, that he overpowers everyone.

Edit: It was pretty good for the most part, until author decided to inject Mao Zedong's teachings as righteous and necessary. <<less

This used to be one of my favorite novels and now I am reareading it since I had caught up with the translations at ch.1124 and now there are 1500 chapters. So while I am reading this again I though it would be a good idea to give my opinion on this novel.

First of all, after reareading, I have to say I noticed a lot of bad things I didnt notice the first time, or just didnt pay enough attention to remember. For example :

  • The cultivation system is pretty bad. I'll give you an example. At chapter 75 MC is at SECOND MAJOR REALM and he manages to attack four people who are at the SIXTH MAJOR REALM, just so he can demonstrate that he can easily kill them if he wants to. Does this make any sense? 4 MAJOR REALMS = 36 MINOR REALMS. This means our MC can kill people who are 36 minor realms ahead of him. What am I even reading??? Also this isnt a constant thing. Sometimes the power difference is normal, which means author propably also realizes how s*upid that sounds...
  • Plus MC's friends cultivation is too fast, even faster than MC a lot of times, which I say HORSHIT. I can understand MC being fast since he has the Nine Tribulation Sword, but his friends are fast just so they dont fall behind of our MC. Bullshit.
  • There is a lot of poetic undertone in this novel. Many chapters are filled with poems and verses appealing to our emotions, which I bet 99/100 of the readers dont care about and skip. Ofcourse author can write whatever he wants but I'm just stating my personal opinion here. A lot of unnecessary, overdone drama. Really this novel tries to make the readers emotional every other chapter. There is a very great example on this forced drama which @kakeru has mentioned in his comment spoilers, feel free to check it out, because I couldnt agree more.
  • The romance was also badly done for the most part.... And it all goes back again to the unnecessary drama the author wants to place in the romance... Without all the sh*t drama it would be so much better.
Anyway, objectively i'd rate this novel 3 but it used to be one of my favorites so I'm giving it a 4 for making giving me some happy times.

As for... more>> the good stuff in the novel, its the strategy, the emotions it gives you when it does it right, the characters which are fleshed out well be it enemies or friends. Anyway there are many reviews about the good stuff check them for reference! HF! <<less

Tie Bu Tian : Disguising herself as a man and yada-yada MC gets hit by a lust poision and she r*pes him to save him, she gets pregnant... don't tell him and claim that she is married to Qian Qian and that the kid is not from Chu Yang, both the girls were into MC I could at least deal with Qian Qian but not Tie Bu Tian, but this whole thing gets so much more s*upid.

Later in the novel MC father meets with Tie Bu Tian and so does other people from higher realm and they discover Chu Yang have a son... what do they do? "We will cover the fact its his son for you"

JESUS CHRIST DUDE CHU YANG WAS A "ORPHAN" HE DIDN'T KNOW HIS PARENTS, AND NOW YOU ACTIVELY COVER THAT HE HAS A KID AND TAKING AWAY THE FATHER FROM THIS KID? EVERYONE SERIOUSLY AGREEING WITH THAT?

It took f*cking Qian QIan in her dying moments to tell the truth to Chu Yang that he have a kid and that Tie Bu Tian was a woman all along and she loved him.

From All Heroines I only really liked Qian Qian and the Elf girl since I'm already used to this kind of violent girl at beggining. The things annoyed me about Qian Qian its that she actually covered for the fact that Chu Yang had a kid, I could actually understand that she ddin't want to confess because she knew Chu Yang alreaday loved another woman (even if its s*upid because polygamy is a thing and hiding your feelings like this is s*upid as hell) but at least its not like Tie Bu Tian

Mo Qinwu is a n unlikeable spoiled kid that just annoyed me even more that Chu Yang only made it worse while she was growing by spoiling her even more lol

One of the better wuxia out there, this story is pretty solid and engaging.

The GOOD:

  • Mostly solid plotting. Even though most of the MC's benefits are 'dropped from the sky'. there's still enough effort behind his actions to make it forgivable... mostly. There is a clear, ongoing story here (for the most part) and the progress and development is worth sticking with so far.
  • Fair character development. Not much to say here- they're mostly likable stereotypes with one or two attributes. A few of them manage to be exceptional- to the point that the author actually ignores/suppresses them for large parts of the story.
The BAD:

  • Forced Plotting- Events or exceptions to events will magically pop up for the MC if the author wants to do a thing.
    Spoiler

So many examples- but the most blatant is when the 90, 000 year lock on traveling between the various layers becomes an inconvenience- then suddenly he can solo travel for a few months... (he can't bring anyone- but he can ride a horse through? Ok.)

    [collapse]
  • Plot armor- MC has it. All his allies have it. Bad things don't happen unless they help the plot & the character can help it.
    Spoiler

No one dies until one of the brothers has the bloodline of the Phoenix- so he dies first- then repeatedly (since it's ok). Second death is the plot motivator to go do a thing, so 'that's ok- she'll be able to escaped death more after (as if she didn't suffer enough)...

    [collapse]
  • Forced melodrama- certain 'romantic' complications are 'who does that unless they're a monster', plot convenient complications. They're dumb, and 'screw you' author for pushing that on us.
    Spoiler

The worst is the woman who has magic to look like a man who is mad at the MC for not loving her, and yada yada (ridiculous events) ends up pregnant with his child, and keeps it a secret because 'she doesn't want to burden him, etc. etc. the whole thing is ret*rded.

    [collapse]
  • Sexism- Somehow women are potentially equal in power- but still sexually controlled/repressed & never fight unless for comedic effect.
  • Racism? Apparently there are no minorities in the world, nor do different clans look noticeably different from any other. They're all undifferentiable Chinese (I guess). Even so, The MC genocides bloodlines without a thought- so maybe 'clan-ism'?
    Spoiler

This mostly covers the various 'clan infiltrations' where no one knows who's who because there apparently are no family-distinguishing featurees EVEN THOUGH people are part dragon, phoenix, devil or whatever...

    [collapse]
  • Ridiculous resource management- It always seems like the MC has entirely too much treasure (because he does) - but the author will insist it's not enough! It apparently takes a ton of the best quality herbs to make 1 pill or something.
    Spoiler

Not even gonna get into how EASY it is to him to gather all this fluff!

    [collapse]
  • Magic harem- Yes, most girls love the MC, just cause.
  • Borderline pedophilia- Luckily the activities never really cross the line- but the author is happy to communicate the sentiment despite the option to maintain some level of practical distance/professional clarity & just wait for her to grow up before salivating.
  • s*upid slapstick- Yeah, this is a personal thing, where all the beatings between the brothers got tiresome real fast.
  • Rampant Hypocrisy- The sentiments of the MC from a personal perspective, and based on personal experience, or empathy for his allies... means nothing compared to doing great injustice for personal gain. This is exemplified whenever the MC o his allies rob innocents (usually a paragraph in passing), or kill people for dubious/downright s*upid reasons.
    Spoiler

The worst is when the MC's brother gets married, and the MC uses it as an excuse to extort treasures out of all the clans there- threatening to purge any clan that doesn't come, or doesn't bring a gift- and breaking the legs of those who bring inferior gifts! Yep, that's right- and he's already loaded up on sh*t at this point as well!

    [collapse]
The Different:

  • Nothing. It's just a better put together classic wuxia story. I guess if I have to stretch it, the whole 'everyone knows you're powering up (due to distinct stellar signs) ' then that qualifies- though it doesn't really change anything since people always were against him unless they can be his ally from the start.
Overall, it's a good read, with some classic wuxia nonsense still there, and a few extra 'to make the story go faster' things thrown in.

Now and then a section will disappoint, but once you're past whatever 's*upid' the author did for a minute, you'll be fine. I don't know your taste, but in the end, it's probably worthwhile

This novel is unbearable to read.

The author only writes in exposition, in an entire chapter you can count the number of spoken sentences on a single hand and the rest is unrelated exposition, explaining the characters thoughts, repeating things the reader already knows and so on.

Ah Transcending the Nine Heavens... Ah, you shouldn't have transcended at all ah.

As another review mentioned, the BEST part of this novel is the Lower Heavens. It's exciting, thrilling, and extracts the best parts of what this story is capable of. The antagonist was SUPERB (one of my favorite CN antagonist) and the resolution was alright. TTNH is one of my favorite novels -- make that a was -- because once he began moving up, the novel began moving down.

And it's completely understandable. The conflict in the Lower Heavens was... more>> too good. It was the perfect hook for readers, and I can't blame the author for declining in the later chapters. It would feel far too drawn out and repetitive had he tried to replicate the Lower Heavens; and by my understanding, even Feng Ling Tian Xia should have become tired out after finishing the excruciating Lower Heavens. Still, it's a damn shame.

The story follows reincarnated Chu Yang, who travels back in time to his past self upon committing sudoku. He is given the chance to fix what he broke in his past life, and to chase after his true love. Touching touching.

Except his true love is a 9 year old now.

And he's 30~40 mentally.

Anyways. The arc is kick-started with his determination to save his sect that was destroyed in his past life as the first objective. He has to take advantage of the conflict between Great Zhao that wants to conquer the world (also destroyed his sect due to their schemes) and Iron Cloud, the last remaining country strong enough to resist Great Zhao. Ensue the best part of the story, as King of Hell Chu uses his wits and his knowledge to the extreme in order to challenge the best mind of the Lower Heavens, Prime Minister Diwu Qing Rou of Great Zhao.

Such a f*cking amazing conflict. I couldn't look and objectively state that one side is on the right. The country that wants to maintain its sovereignty and the brothers that would conquer the world for each other. There's a lot of clashing of interests, and a lot of emotions involved. Of course, every strategy Chu Yang employs to deal with Great Zhao's attempts to take over the country (by subterfuge) repels them successfully and hilariously. The humor in this novel is almost top notch at places. The only regret I have is that we get to see Diwu Qing Rou's reactions live. This kills the intimidation Diwu Qing Rou must have to a certain extent. He was far more intimidating before we started seeing his reactions. Either way, their clashes are amazing. The ending was, to me, somewhat forced for a "best for both sides but still debilitating" ending.

The next best part of the novel is undoubtedly the six brothers. Their character interactions make me laugh genuinely, and it's the best I've seen in CN. The other novels simply tell me that "the friends chatted and laughed" explicitly. I can't feel the connection. Here, the brothers interact, make fun of each other, discuss, fight, and behave almost genuinely like good friends. There are some cheesy bits in there, but that's alright. Some of the jokes fall flat, but what's important is that to me, they feel like actual brothers. This and Diwu Qing Rou are what made this novel so special for me.

This is, of course, a harem. There are three candidates till now, one of them the child. And honest, this has some pretty good romance. The MC at least, is faithful to his loli, and the other two react believably. They can't get over him, of course, but it does show a lot of how intense their love is -- although cheesy, still a bit touching. I rooted for both of them, and can't wait for the inevitable resolution. HOWEVER.

Only the first harem candidate is alright for me. She is the one who's most believable, yet ironically the one who is too exaggerated. The others... Hm.

Spoiler

The second is Tie Bu Tian, the princess disguised as Prince because she's the sole heir. Chu Yang helps her a lot, and as a sheltered girl who became Prince and couldn't have her secret revealed (hence no male friends) her falling in love with dashing Chu Yang is believable. It's the "sealing of their relationship" that's too forced. He's affected by an aphrodisiac that needs him to have s*x in five hours to avoid death. She saves him by sacrificing her cultivation which needs her v**ginity intact, and becomes pregnant. Chu Yang is still, at this point, unaware that she's a she and she's pregnant with his kid.

And the third...

Spoiler

Is the child. Of course. It is just so WEIRD. Even Chu Yang feels it's weird. But it pushed the limits a bit far when he groped her eleven year old bu*t whilst asleep. Her falling in love with him as a little girl is alright. His responding affirmatively really blows my head off. Despite their history, that's a different Qing Wu from this... Child. Their interaction is cute, but still weird. Pedo.

The humor is, as I have mentioned, one of the best for me in CN, slightly above My Disciple Died Yet Again. It's over the top and exaggerated, but some of the bits have me rolling. However, the problem is the author's habit of squeezing a bit to the extreme. He makes something funny, but doesn't stop there. He beats the dead horse hoarse for a couple chapters before letting go. This makes it... quite awkward.

But this isn't limited to just the humor. This is the biggest beef I have with the author.

Spoiler

During a chase scene with Chu Yang having to run 6500+ km to escape, he's blocked from proceeding by an enemy camp that just arrived. He has to break through them, and waits. During their lunch time, he attacks violently, catching them off guard while getting food. Clever or whatever. But the aggravating bit is, this "strategy" is explained TWICE by EACH viewpoint. Too much. The general observing it goes on a monologue worth a novel about how accurate the attack was, and the viewpoint switches to Chu Yang, who also explains how accurate his viewpoint was. Too much.

In a similar fashion, he over-explains a lot of needless things that will never be mentioned ever again, which kinda pisses me off. This is one of my biggest pet peeves

Now that I've lauded it all I could, I'll tell you why it starts to decline. It's gradual, as even at the start of the Middle Heavens it's somewhat good, but begins to drop.

It becomes just another xianxia with a super talented young master. The arc is super rushed, and by the end of it, he's basically gained the allegiance of five-ish major clans with little effort. Compared to the strenuous work in the Lower Heavens where he climbed up step by step, it's simply him beating arrogant young masters up to become popular. The antagonists become shallow, as nobody compares to Diwu Qing Rou, who you could sympathise with. Mo Tian Yun was alright near the end, and it was fascinating to see him slowly go insane with arrogance, but there is no substance to him beyond that. He's just a sh*t person, done and dusted. The Ou clan is filled with greedy buffoons, every "evil" person provokes the MC, and it's basically the typical Xianxia sh*tfest.

Don't get me wrong. Some of the intelligent bits do remain, although they feel lackluster because of the lack of tension. His clash with Diwu Qing Rou had me wondering how each would respond. Now, I'm a hundred percent sure that Chu Yang will unconditionally win. Bleh.

And once the lower Heavens is over, the author starts using some really, REALLY, annoying misunderstandings to keep readers reading. Most of this I could adjust with, but some of it had me genuinely pissed at the characters I was supposed to "like".

Spoiler

Tie Bu Tian's elder Martial sister and master find out that she became pregnant because of Chu Yang. And that he left without a care (dude had no idea, and Tie Bu Tian fooled him into thinking that she killed the woman who actually saved him. MC was heartbroken for half a chapter and even left a monument in her name). So they were pissed, and the master tells the elder Martial sister (who is Chu Yang's mom that lost Chu Yang) to beat him up, to which she readily complies because she hates him for being such a sh*t person, and it's his fault that he doesn't even know he has a kid. So she beats up his sworn brother thinking it's him and heads home, where her husband gives her several legendary items that Chu Yang gave him. She eats them all and levels up, and then learns that it was Chu Yang that gave this stuff. Ironic, don't you think? I wanted her to beat herself up for doing the very same thing as Chu Yang.

[collapse]

These misunderstandings are EVERYWHERE. The characters have no job in the Middle Heavens than to misunderstand because the characters don't know how to speak without making one. One of the worst aspects of this novel tbh.

Well, that's a pretty long review. Either way, it's great in the Lower Heavens, mediocre and generic in the Middle Heavens, and unknown in the upper Heavens. Sadly, I'll be putting this formerly great novel down, because I don't expect the author to bounce back. The first 400 chapters are absolutely worth reading. <<less
